A bell tinkled faintly somewhere in the recesses of the store as Kaiba opened the door.

An old man bustled into the shop, "Hello," he said in a pleasant enough manner. "Welcome to the Turtle Shop." However, once he saw Kaiba, a flicker of recognition lit his eyes. His eyes flashed with anger, he said with clenched teeth, "Welcome Kaiba, to what do we owe such an honor."

Normally Kaiba would have struck him down for much less, however he couldn't do that, not if he wanted the job, which he did, so he merely gritted his teeth, and said, "I was merely wondering about the sign in your window."

"It's for an amateur duelist tournament, although you are no longer the champion duelist, surely you haven't sunk so low…"

Now it was Kaiba's turn to grow angry, he went red in the face, more from anger than anything. He took a step forward, his hands were clenched in fists, and he was almost shaking with rage. "Listen you old fool," he hissed, his voice laden with venom, "I will be champ."

"You will never beat my Yugi. He is a much better duelist than you will ever be. You are a second rate duelist."

"Watch who you call second rate, you senile old man, I crushed you in a fair duel, and I'll do the same to little Yugi."

"Never."

It would have most likely ended in a duel, had Yugi not entered at that exact moment. "Hey Grandpa…Kaiba…What's up?"

Kaiba stiffened, oh great, it was little Yugi.

"So Kaiba," Sugoroku said coolly, "What were you inquiring about?"

"The other sign," Kaiba spat.

"The `Help Wanted' sign? Surely you jest?"

"Do I?" Another challenge.

"Why do you want to work here?" Yugi asked.

"I would thank you not to pry into my reasons."

"Well I'll have to know why you want the job before I give it to you."

"Very well," Kaiba said, and he grudgingly told them what had happened, and why he was in such desperate need of money.

"I don't know," Sugoroku said hesitantly.

"Please Grandpa, please," Yugi begged.

Oh God, this was bad, Kaiba thought, now Yugi was helping him, he, Kaiba, couldn't even land a job without help from the boy.

"Well," Sugoroku said hesitantly, "I guess we could try it for a little while."

"Very well," Kaiba said evenly.

"Wait, Grandpa," Yugi said, "Kaiba, aren't you living in Joey's apartment?"

"Yes."

"Grandpa," Yugi said, turning to look beseechingly at the old man, "couldn't Mokuba and Kaiba stay in the guest room, it has two beds, that better than a couch."

"I don't need charity." Kaiba said stiffly.

"It's not charity, I'm helping you out- that's what friends do."

Friends? So now they were friends?

"Kaiba, don't be stupid," Sugoroku said, "Everything is about pride for you. Is sleeping on a couch in a slum apartment something that you can be proud of?"

"So can they stay?"

"If Kaiba wants to."

"Kaiba?" Yugi turned to him, flashing him a dazzling smile.

"Very well, I guess it'll be OK for a little while."

"YES!!!!" Yugi said, grinning happily.

"I'll get the car, and drive you to the apartment, to pick up Mokuba and your stuff."

Kaiba said nothing.

"You mean we're going to live with Yugi?" Mokuba asked excitedly.

Kaiba nodded. Mokuba gave him a big hug.

"I can't wait," Mokuba squealed.

"Neither can I," Kaiba said dryly.

"So this is it." Joey said, looking at Kaiba.

"I guess so," Kaiba said, averting his eyes.

"Good luck with your new job."

Kaiba nodded.

Was this really happening, was the Mutt really offering him good luck, was he really excepting it? This had better be a bad dream. I hope to God this is a bad dream. But Kaiba knew he wouldn't wake up, and deep down…he was kinda glad…
