The Hunt

Robbie's head snapped up when he heard the door to the room open. Aten opened his eyes weakly as the door creaked slowly.

"Anyone in here?" Dr. Chapman asked as he peeked his head inside.

Robbie let out a sigh of relief as his body relaxed. "Oh, it's you, Mr. Chapman. What a relief!"

The psychologist closed the door behind him. "Hello, Robbie. There's my patient…Hello, Aten. I heard about you yesterday

from Mrs. Gansey. I'm glad to see you're awake."

Aten blinked and rest his head against the pillows tiredly.

"He's really tired, doctor."

"Oh, no doubt, Robert. He'll be this way for a while. My mother had a heart attack a few years ago and it knocked all the

wind out of her. But Aten's young. He'll pull through. Won't you, kiddo?"

Aten blinked and let out a little whimper.

Chapman crossed his legs. "Robert, the nurses told me that you haven't left Aten since he was brought here."

Robbie put his hand on Aten's arm. "There's already been an attempt on Aten's life. I can't leave him. I…I can't leave the

one I love, Mr. Chapman."

Chapman raised an eyebrow. "Well, Robbie, Aten needs all the rest he can get. And you look exhausted."

Robbie yawned. "I am….but I can't leave him here. I love him, Dr. Chapman. I don't want to be without him….I'm afraid I might lose him if I leave."

The psychologist put a hand on Robbie's arm. "I doubt that you will lose him, Robert. You need to take care of yourself, too.

You can't take care of Aten unless you take care of yourself, too, son."

Robbie rubbed his tired blue eyes. "I know……but, still….I can't leave."

The door opened again and Aria and Umi walked through.

"Umi? What are you doing here?"

The tall teen held his girlfriend's hand. "I brought Aria to see her brother. I wanted to visit him, too."

"Hello, Dr. Chapman," Aria said.

"Hello, Aria. You're looking well."

The girl ignored the compliment and walked to her brother's side. "Brother? Can you hear me?"

Aten kept his head tilted towards Robbie, his body didn't move. His eyes remained closed as he weakly laid in the bed.

"Brother?"  Aria reached out and touched her brother's cold cheek.  "I'm so sorry, Aten. This is all my fault."

Chapman looked up at the girl. "Aria, this is not your fault.  Aten was ill to begin with."

Aria shook her head. "No.  Something happened.....Aten saved me.  His heart couldn't take what he saw.  Aten.....why

didn't you stay away?  You could have saved yourself from this."

"How are you responsible?" Robbie asked.

"Robbie," Aria whispered.  She raised her eyes to her brother's friend. "Keith raped me.....and Eric and Jason were

there, too.  That is what made Aten unstable.  That is why he is here right now.  And...." Aria turned and buried her face

in Umi's chest. "And this is why my brother may die....it's all because of me!"  Aria sobbed loudly.

Umi stroked her spiky white hair and glared at Robbie.  "Thanks, Morgan."

The blue-eyed teen sighed and looked down at Aten on the bed. "Aria....I'm sorry.  Aten told me that he found you with

Keith."  Robbie walked around the bed and stood beside the crying girl. "I didn't mean to upset you."  Robbie opened

his arms and wrapped his arms around Aria. "I'm really sorry, Aria. Dr. Chapman's right....this isn't your fault.  This was

bound to happen sometime."

Umi sat on the edge of the bed. Umi's eyes watched Aten sleep. "You can barely tell he's breathing."

"He is, though. That's the important thing," Chapman said.

Robbie held Aria and his eyes narrowed angrily at the wall. Aria could feel Robbie's body tense as he held her.

"Aria, could you do me a favor? Can you stay with Aten until I come back?"

Aria sniffled. "Where are you going?"

Robbie took a deep breath as his body started to shake.  "I have some business to attend to...and I don't want to leave

Aten alone."

Dr. Chapman crossed his legs. "Aria, you can stay here with me if you would like."

Aria nodded. "Yeah....I do...need to talk."

Robbie kissed her on the forehead. "I'll be back shortly."

Robbie walked around the bed and kissed Aten on the forehead. "I'll be back, my love. I won't be long."

The boy walked out of the room, seeing red behing his normally-placid blue eyes. How dare someone hurt Aria AND

Aten!  He loved Aten deeply and knowing that someone had hurt him and Aria, it was no longer revenge he was after.

Robbie...the loyal friend, the rational, logical teen....was now out for more than revenge.

He was out for blood.

"Robbie!" a voice called to him.

Robbie turned and saw Umi chase after him.

"Where are you going?"

Robbie seethed furiously. "I'm going to go home, grab my deck, and track down the Machine King!  NOBODY hurts

the ones I love and gets away with it! I'm going to find Keith and make him pay!"

Umi grabbed Robbie's arm. "Okay, but promise me one thing, Morgan."

"What is it?"

Umi narrowed his eyes. "I get a piece of Eric and Jason.  Nobody touches my Little Mermaid like that."

Robbie nodded. "Fine.  I'm going to meet them after school tomorrow. Bring your deck.  We'll teach them what

happens when they mess with the people we love."

Umi smiled and the two boys shook hands. "Deal."

Robbie looked down the hallway. "Keep an eye on Aten while I'm gone. I'm going to track down Machine King....and

dethrone him once and for all!"

Marik opened his eyes with a groan. His eyes struggled to focus on his surroundings. The cold air brushed against his

skin, making him shiver.

Marik raised his arm to rub his eyes and couldn't move. He looked up at his wrists bound in chains. "What in hell's name is this?"

A laugh resonated through the room.

He could recognized that laugh anywhere....

Pharaoh.

He thrashed on the stone, yanking violently at the chains.

"Struggle all you want, Ishtar. It will do you no good."

Marik saw Yami stand by the altar. His blond hair spiked and his canines sharpened. "Let me off of this or so help me

Ra I will rip your tongue out myself!"

Yami chuckled. "Tsk...Tsk....so much hatred. I thought it would do your heart good to lay down and rest...especially when

that same altar held your son so many years ago."

Marik growled. "Impossible! The Nightmare Dragon destroyed the temple where Steven was hiding! Itemri and I were in the blast!"

Yami smiled. "You are forgetting, oh, Noble Ishtar. The Shadow Realm is the City of the Dead. And as such, objects can be

rebuilt...and the dead never have to die again. The Shadow Realm is Death's Haven. For you see, this place can never be

destroyed. The same goes for the memories that Aten carries from this single altar. You can hear it,c an't you? The screams of your boy."

Marik closed his eyes tightly as he heard his child's scream ripple through the room.

//Mommy! Daddy! Gantfatter! Stop!//

"Aten's memories have imprinted themselves on this very stone on which you lay."

Marik felt something warm creep from between his thighs. "What's happening?"

His blood curses this altar. You're feeling Aten's memory...not entirely pleasant, is it?"

Marik shuddered. "Let me go, pharaoh! Let me off of this thing!"

Yami stood beside the altar. "Why should I? It would be so easy to take you...and show you waht it truly means to

be a Noble and take what you want."

The blond felt a knot in his stomach as Yami's hands brushed over Marik's chest.

"Get your fucking hands off of me!"

"Uh-uh, Ishtar. If you don't want your son to be a mummified corpse, I suggest you cooperate."

Marik snarled. "It is you! You're the one murdering the mortals!"

Yami shrugged. "Yes...and pinning the blame on you. Well, there'd be no way the police ould have your prints on file.

According to their modern technology, you and Bakura don't exist. Since you had control of Malik for a time, you both

share fingerprints, DNA, blood type....everything. I wouldn't be surprised if he is feeling your head injury now."

The blond growled as the pharaoh leaned down and kissed Marik's chest. "Stop it!" he snarled angrily.

"Why should I when I'm enjoying myself?" Yami asked running his tongue around Marik's nipple.
The blond moaned and writhed. "I said knock it the fuck off, Yami!"

Yami narrowed his eyes and grabbed Marik's throat.  "You know of my powers, Ishtar.  Why are you testing them?"

Marik narrowed his eyes. "Bakura and I try to use our powers for good....you use yours to destroy and make

everyone miserable.  I don't fear you!"

Yami grinned. "You may not....but what about Bakura?  You saw what I did to him. You saw what I reduced him to."

"Bakura doesn't fear you either. There's no use in fearing a coward such as yourself!"

"What about Malik?  Do you know what he did to try to get the Millennium Rod back from me after your death from the Yami Virus?

He has learned to fear me, too."

The blond snarled. "You Ra-damned bastard!" The blond struggled wildly against the chains.

"Just ask Malik.  I'm sure he'll give you all of the...juicy details. Well, they won't be juicy details......he was as dry as the Sahara

when we had our little fun."

"I'm going to get you for hurting my husband!  I'm going to rip your throat out."

Yami grinned. "I don't recommend that."

"And why is that?"

Yami grinned. "As pharaoh, I had the power over life and death.  I still have that power.  Should anything happen to me, I will

make certain that Aten leaves the hospital in a coffin."

Marik's body tensed. "You wouldn't!"

"Wouldn't I?" Yami grinned.  "You know I am good to my word.  I have the power over life and death.  Are you

ready to gamble with your son's life?"

Marik's purple eyes glared up at the pharaoh. The pharaoh's cocky smile and devilish grin told Marik that Yami knew he

had the upper hand. Yami knew how to gain Marik's cooperation.

Marik's head fell back on the stone.  "I love my son too much."

Yami grinned. "I knew you'd feel that way."

Yami felt Marik shiver as his fingers brushed over his skin.  "What do you say, Ishtar?"

"To what?"

"I've been very lonely, Ishtar."

Marik narrowed his eyes. "Forget it."

Yami grinned. "Fine.  Release!"

The chains disappeared from around his wrists and ankles.  The blond sat up and held his head. The room began to spin.

"The Soldier of Stone hit you pretty hard. I don't suggest doing anything too strenuous for a while."

Marik glared at Yami. "Is that why you brought me here?  For sex?"

Yami returned to his throne and sat down. "Now why would I want to bring you here just for that reason?"

"Because since Yugi kicked you out, I bet you're getting tired of using your own hand!  Because you've been

separated from Yugi for so long that you haven't had anyone provide you with any type of physical pleasure.

Well, pharaoh, I am not doing that for you."

"What about Aten?"

Marik jumped off of the altar and staggered. "You leave him out of this!"

"Well, Marik, if you are not going to cooperate with me or show me proper respect, I guess that the murders will

have to continue, won't they?"

Marik straightened his back. "You'll be caught, Yami!"

Yami grinned. "I think not. I will continue to hold Aten's life in my hands.  Nothing you can do can stop me.  And his life

is not the only one that hangs in the balance at this very moment. There is someone else right now who is a cause for concern."

"I am concerned for my husband, my lovers, and our kids!  They are my priority!"

"I'm sure of that.  Well, you will find out soon enough what I mean."

Marik looked around. "Where is my Rod?"

Yami raised an eyebrow. "Oh, I could tell you where it is.....but letting you search for it is half the fun."

Marik grumbled. "Asshole."

The blond yami staggered out of the temple and down the stairs.  At the bottom of the stairs, he sat down.

His vision blurred from the strike of the stone giant.

'I have to get home....'

***************************

Robbie limped into his home and went up the stairs.  He opened his bedroom door and sifted through his drawer to find his deck.

His mother stepped into the doorway. "Robbie!  It's good to see you've come home."

"I won't be home for long. I came to grab my deck."

"Aten can't duel right now, sweetie."

Robbie removed a cedar box from the drawer. He opened the lid and saw his deck laying in there. "No, I'm not dueling Aten.

I'm going to find Bandit Keith."

"Keith? Why?"

Robbie removed the deck from the box and held it gently in his hands. "This is something I have to do, Mom.

Not just for Aten.....I need to do this for Aria, too.  Keith kurt both of them and I can't let them both down. They've both

been such good friends to me."

"Bandit Keith.....he was one of the Duelist Kingdom finalists many years back! Robbie, are you sure you want to duel him?"

Robbie nodded. "Like I said, mom.....I have to do this.  Keith hurt my friends.  Why should Keith go unpunished?"

Miranda walked up to her son. She put her hands on Robbie's shoulders. "Robbie, I'm going to say this just once.  Go kick his ass."

The teen smiled. "Thanks, mom."

"Love you, Robbie," Miranda said giving her son a kiss on the cheek.

"Thanks, mom. Bye."

Robbie limped out of the house and returned to where he had seen Bandit Keith earlier.

Robbie saw the blond hiding in the same alleyway. Could he be waiting for Aria again?

"Bandit Keith!"

Keith laughed as he emerged from the shadows. "Well, well, if it isn't the kid with the funny walk!  What do you want, you little punk?"

"I challenge you to a duel!  I'll teach you to hurt my friends!"

Keith laughed. "Kid, you are no match for me!  I was a finalist in Duelist Kingdom!  The only finalist you've ever been in,

I guess, is a loser convention!"

Robbie pulled the deck out of his pocket. "Duel me if you are not a coward!  My deck is also full of Machines!

Your reign as Machine King is over! That title is mine!"

"Your deck is weak, kid!"

"I, too, was a finalist in the Domino Tournament!  Come on, Keith! Your Machines against my Military Deck!

It's time to turn your Machines into scrapmetal!  What do you say?"

****************************

Malik sighed as he looked outside.  Marik wasn't home yet. Aria walked down the steps.

"Malik? Why are you standing there?"

Malik sniffled. "Marik's gone. He hasn't returned."

The blond narrowed his eyes. "I have to go out and look for him."

"But, what if the cops get you, Malik?"

"I can't have my yami missing. Besides….we're out of milk."

Aria turned to Malik. "But you know everyone is looking for you."

Malik reached into his pocket. "I'll have enough for some milk. Do you want some M&M's while I'm out?"

The girl's eyes widened and she smiled. "Please?"

"Okay. Where's your mom and dad?"

"Mother and Father are upstairs."

Malik nodded. "Okay.  I'm going out. I won't be long."

Malik opened the door and ran down the street. He kept alert for the sounds of police sirens as he

made his way to the store.  He stopped suddenly when he saw the police cars approaching.  He ran into the park and hid in the bushes.

He watched the car pass and he sighed in relief.

"MAWIK!" a boy squealed as he felt a child cling to him.

He looked down and saw two large green eyes looking up at him.

"Hi, Ceres!"

"Mommy and Daddy bought us to da park so we tan pway!  You tun see Mommy and Daddy!"

Ceres lead Malik to Mokuba and Jeanie sitting on a picnic blanket. "Mommy! Daddy! I found Mawik!"

Mokuba looked up. "Malik?!  What are you doing out?  Someone might see you."

"We needed milk at home.  I had to go out.  Besides, Aria wanted M&M's."

Jeanie brushed her black hair out of her face. "How is Aten?  Is he doing any better?"

"He's still unconscious for most of the time. Robbie hasn't left his side."

"We'll have to go over and visit him. These three have kept us very busy lately."

Mokuba nodded. "We're going to see him soon."

"We really hope that he gets better. We'll bring him a little gift."

"Oh, he'll like that," Malik said.

Ivy ran past her parents holding the Millennium Rod in her hand. "I gotted a toy!  It's a sword!"

Malik gasped. "THE MILLENNIUM ROD!  IVY!"

Ivy squealed as she ran with the Rod clutched to her chest.  "You no tatch me!"

Mokuba called after his daughter. "Ivy!  Come here, baby girl."

The girl ran to her father.  "I'm not Ivy! I'm Lilly!"

Mokuba sighed. Having identical twin girls was a challenge.  "Lilly, where is your sister?"

The other girl ran from a bush. "I'm Ivy, daddy! Silly daddy!"

"Girls, give that thing back to Malik. It's not good to touch that thing. You don't know where that's been."

Jeanie snickered.

The blond rolled his eyes. "Very funny."

"It's the truth."

Lilly handed Malik the Rod. "Here's your Wod bat, Mawik."

Malik gripped the Rod and looked at it. "Marik? You can come out."

Nothing.

"Marik?"

Malik tapped the Rod against the tree. "Yami Marik Jibade Ishtar…come out."

Nothing.

"Marik, I know that you're upset, but Aten will be okay. Bakura didn't mean to snap at you. We all know you're under a lot of pressure."

Nothing.

Malik sighed. "Fine. Be that way.  I'll just carry you around until you decide to come out of there.  See you around, Mokuba. I have to get to the store before the cops find me."

Malik ran down the street to the store. He entered the convenience store and the clerk saw Marik's picture on the wall of fugitives behind the counter.  He grabbed a phone and dialed the police.

The blond grabbed a milk and a package of M&M's when he heard the police car siren sound outside the store.

"Malik Ishtar, we know you are in there!"

Malik looked at the Rod. "Marik, I need you! Come on out!"

Nothing.

"Damn it, Marik! Get out here!"

The patrons in the store ran out screaming when they saw Malik.

"Mr. Ishtar, come out with your hands up! You are surrounded!"

The blond ran out of the store and ran to the back door. He opened the back door and gunfire erupted.

"Oh, shit!"

Malik shut the door and panted heavily. "Shit….MARIK ISHTAR, GET YOUR SWEET NOBLE ASS OUT HERE NOW!"

Nothing.

"DAMN IT! Marik, you are so dead when you get out here!"

Malik ran out to the front of the store. The cashier had also left. He looked outside the store and saw a squad of police training weapons on the store.

"If you do not leave the store, we will be forced to open fire!"

Malik ran behind the aisles of food and kneeled. "Marik….come out!  Please."

"MEN!"

"Marik….."

"OPEN FIRE!"

***************************************

Bakura walked down the steps and saw Aria watching television. Umi sat by her side.

Aria flipped through the channels when they saw a 'Breaking News' report on the screen.

[We're here at StarShine Groceries where the fugitive Malik Ishtar has been cornered.]

Bakura gasped. "What?!"

[Authorities say that Malik Ishtar is trapped inside and are planning to subdue the criminal by force.]

Bakura saw the police pointing their guns at the store.

[MEN!  FIRE!]

Bakura ran out the door towards the StarShine Groceries.

His heart seized as the sound of gunfire erupted.

*********************************************

Robbie limped up to Keith waiting in the KaibaLand Dueling Arena.

"Are you ready to go down, punk?" Robbie asked as he attached the duel disk to his wrist.

Keith laughed. "Are you ready to go down, wimp?"

"You won't win, Keith. I won't let you."

Keith slapped Robbie's arm.  "Good luck trying to beat me."

Robbie limped towards his side of the dueling arena and slipped his deck into the slot.

"It's time to Duel, Keith!  It's time to dethrone the Machine King!"
