The New Life

Aria leaned forward onto her mother and gripped her mother's arms. “Mother….”
Ryou gasped. “Aria! We have to get you to the hospital, baby girl!”
Bakura gripped the side of the couch and struggled to his feet. Ryou felt the pain radiating through Bakura's body.
“Bakura, are you going to go? You're hurt!”
Bakura reached out and gripped his daughter's shoulder. “I'm not missing the birth of my child's baby….no matter how much this hurts.”
Malik helped Aria to her feet. “What about me?”
Ryou and Bakura exchanged glances. “We can't leave him home, Bakura.”
“Well….my Millennium Ring doesn't have our powers anymore. I can't make him invisible. But, not to worry, Malik. I can sneak into any building, with or without my powers. I'm sure I can sneak you into a hospital.”
Aria held her stomach and her mother's hand tightly. “I…don't have…a hospital…bag!”
“Where's Umi?”
“He's upstairs sleeping.”
Malik ran up the stairs screaming Umi's name in alarm.
Ryou stood up and helped Aria into a chair. “Baby girl, take slow, deep breaths. Here, do this with me.”
Aria squinted her eyes in pain. “The baby…is….early!”
Ryou held her hand. “I know, baby. Bakura, call Dr. Zira. Tell him Aria's gone into premature labor. Aria, I had false labor, too, when I was pregnant with you and your brother.”
“You did?”
Ryou nodded. “Yes, honey, I did. Focus on your breathing.”
Umi ran down the steps and to Aria's side. “Little Mermaid! Malik's getting a bag ready for you. Let's get you out to the car.”
Malik ran down the steps with a bag full of Aria's clothes and hair accessories.
Ryou and Umi helped Aria to her feet and helped her out to the car. Bakura limped with a quiet growl, biting back the pain in his ankle.
“Bakura? Are you sure you want to come along?” Malik asked.
“I have to be there for my daughter....She may be becoming a mother…but she is still my baby. And I will not abandon her.”
“But…you have a wounded shoulder!”
Bakura sighed. “My daughter is more important. I won't bleed to death, Hikari Ishtar.”
Bakura wrapped his arm around Malik's shoulders. Malik helped the wounded yami to the car.
“You can't blame me for being concerned. I don't want anything to happen to you.”
“I'll be fine, Malik. But right now, Aria is all I care about right now.”
Malik grinned. “You're a good father, Bakura.”
Bakura winced. “I want to be there for my daughter the way my father was never there for me. I can't do that to my daughter.”
The white-haired yami sat in the front seat of the car and turned. “Baby girl? Are you okay back there?”
Aria's head rested against the seat. “Men…suck. Ra-damned…..men!”
Ryou and Umi held Aria's hands.
“Deep breaths, baby,” Ryou said calmly.
Umi kissed Aria's hand. “It's going to be okay, Little Mermaid. I'm here.”
Aria closed her eyes in pain. “I was so stupid! Why couldn't I stop Keith?”
Umi brushed her spiky hair off of her shoulders. “This wasn't your fault, Aria.”
Malik pulled the car out of the driveway and took shortcuts towards the hospital.
Aria whimpered and let out a blood-curdling scream. “MOTHER!”
Ryou's hand trembled as he held his daughter's hand. There was nothing he could do to take her discomfort away. His heart started to race with adrenaline.
Bakura turned and saw his daughter's dress start to stain with the escaping blood.
“Malik, hurry up!”
“I can't go any faster, Bakura. I'm going as fast as I can.”
Ryou looked at the dress becoming stained. /Yami, I don't remember bleeding this much./
//Do you think it's a problem?//
/Well, I did bleed…..but I don't think it was this bad./
Umi leaned over and lifted Aria's dress.
Bakura turned and saw Umi looking under Aria's dress. “Tsunami, get your head out of there!”
/Yami, calm down. He's going to marry Aria anyway! And he got her pregnant the first time. Don't you think he would have seen THAT by now?/
Bakura groaned. “Too much information, Ryou.”
Malik raced to the Emergency Room parking. Umi ran out of the car and inside. He told a nurse that Aria was in premature labor.
The nurses brought out a bed and Aria was helped onto it. Ryou followed the nurses with Umi. Bakura and Malk parked the car.
Bakura and Malik looked up at the building. “I'll get you in. This will be a piece of cake.”
Ryou ran beside Aria and turned to one of the nurses. “My son is in this hospital. Can you find him? He's Aten Ishtar.”
The nurse raised an eyebrow. “The tall white and blond haired kid? The cute one?”
Ryou raised an eyebrow. “He should be with Robert Morgan in intensive care.”
The nurse smiled. “Oh! I know where he is!”
“Go get him and tell him that his sister is in labor!”
The nurse looked up at the others. “What room is she going into?”
“Room 2B. But he won't be able to go in. Only one person is allowed in the delivery room.”
Aria let out a sob. “Mother, come in with me!”
Ryou looked into his daughter's eyes. He could see the discomfort in his daughter's eyes. Her eyes told the tale of her pain. Fear reflected in her eyes.
“Mother, please don't leave me!”
“I'll be here.”
Umi turned to Aria. “Do you want me to go?”
Aria shook her head. “No..Umi, stay with me!”
“Aria, we can only have one person in the delivery room if complications arise.”
“Dr. Zira knows me! He's our family doctor! He won't mind Umi and I being in the delivery room,” Ryou explained.
The nurses called Dr. Zira to the delivery room. The elderly doctor ran towards the delivery room as fast as his legs could carry him.
He burst into the delivery room as the nurses placed Aria's legs in the stirrups. Ryou turned his back as Umi and the nurses helped Aria into a hospital gown.
Ryou turned around and held onto Aria's hand, holding it tightly. “Breathe, baby girl.”
Zira ran to the sink and washed his hands. “Aria, you weren't supposed to do this for another couple of months!”
Aria's hair spiked and her eyes turned dark. “Do you think I had a fucking choice about this?!”
Ryou pat Aria's shoulders. “Aria, honey, calm down. You don't know what effect going yami will have on the baby.”
Aria closed her eyes and opened them. They had returned to their brown color. “Mother….it hurts.”
“I know, baby girl. Deep breaths.”
Zira placed his gloves on his hands and lifted Aria's gown. Zira gasped. “How far are her contractions?”
“Every five minutes,” the nurse responded.
Aria squinted her eyes again and arched her back. Her cry of pain filled the delivery room.
Umi leaned down and kissed her forehead. “Poor mermaid….”
Aria panted heavily. “If I….find Keith…..I'm….going…to fucking…..KILL ….him myself!”
Umi stroked her cheek. `That makes two of us, sweetheart.'
Aria's body trembled as her contractions subsided for a moment.
“Aren't we done yet? When is this baby going to come already?”
Ryou smiled and kissed her forehead. “It'll come, angel. Be patient.”
Aria rolled her eyes. “I don't want to be patient, mother! I just want this pain to stop!”
“It's not easy giving birth, baby girl. I had you and Aten by C-section….I was lucky.”
Aria was wracked with another spasm, sending tears flowing from her eyes. Ryou stood by his daughter's bedside, wishing he could do something to ease her discomfort.
It seemed like only yesterday that he himself was on that bed, his body wracked with pain as he doctors pulled her from his body. The tiny squealing, crying infant cried loudly as it was pulled from his womb as a female. His daughter was the first to be removed…while her brother lay in the womb in distress.
Ryou took a cold cloth and pat his daughter's face. “Be strong, Aria.”
Zira kneeled between Aria's legs. “It won't be long now, Aria. You're dilated to about nine inches now.”
Aria turned to Umi. “Stay with me, Umi. Please don't leave me.”
“I won't leave you.”
Aria smiled up at her fiancé. “I love you, Umi.”
The teen leaned down and kissed her on the lips slowly and gently.
Ryou smiled and blushed.
Aria reached up and ran her fingers through Umi's blue hair. She moaned into the kiss and broke it suddenly as she gripped her mother's hand tightly.
“Not again!” she cried as another wave of pain hit her.
Aria could feel Zira poking and prodding.
“Aria, girl, it's time to bring this baby into the world. We can't wait any longer. The fetal heart rate is good and your contractions are becoming more frequent. Aria, don't be afraid. You're in good hands.”
Zira kneeled between Aria's legs and reached for her. “Aria, with each contraction, push. Okay? Let's go. Push.”
Aria squeezed Ryou and Umi's hands as she strained to push the baby out. When the contractions stopped, she laid back on the bed exhausted.
“Doing good, Aria. Good girl. One more time. Push.”
Aria arched her back forward and grit her canines as she pushed again harder.
Ryou dabbed Aria's forehead with the cold cloth again.
“Good girl, Aria,” Ryou encouraged his daughter.
A drop of sweat slicked down the girl's cheek. “Mother….it hurts so much!”
“I know, sweetheart.”
Aria panted heavily. “I want Keith's balls….on a silver platter.”
Umi stroked her hair. “I know, Aria. He won't get away with this.”
Aria fell back on the bed, exhaustion showing on her face. Aria closed her eyes.
**************Flashback****************
Seth hovered over her holding her hand. He sat by her birthing chair. “My girl's doing such a wonderful job!” the High Priest said with a smile.
She felt a cold cloth on her head.
“One more push, my lady,” a female voice said softly.
Aria's body was wracked with pain.
***********************************
Aria opened her eyes and saw Umi looking at her with concern. “Umi…..I want….”
Umi leaned into her. “What is it?”
“Seth…..I want….Seth.”
Ryou raised an eyebrow. “Do you mean Seto, Aria?”
Aria turned her head to her mother. “Seth…..”
/Yami, Aria's asking for Seto./
//I'm calling moneybags now. Aten's here, too, with Marik.//
/Did you get Malik in?/
//Are you kidding? You're looking at the Master of Secret Entry.//
/You still haven't lost your touch. That's good./
Bakura laughed through the mindlink. //Hey, hard habits are hard to break. How's our daughter?//
/In pain. She's having contractions now./
//Tell her I love her, Ryou.//
Aria arched her back as another wave of contractions hit her. “Mother….need….Seth!”
Zira saw the baby's bottom coming out. “Ryou, we have a breech birth here.”
“Breech?”
“The baby's coming out backwards…..I don't think I have a choice. Nurse, give me the numbing gel.”
“What are you going to do?” Ryou asked.
Zira grabbed the bottle from the nurse and grabbed a scalpel.
Ryou watched Aria's face for sign of more pain.
//Ryou, is she okay? You're afraid.//
/I'm okay. I don't know what the doctor is doing./
//Aria's safe, Ryou. He's a good doctor.//
Ryou wiped his daughter's forehead with the cold cloth. “You're father says he loves you, Aria.”
Aria smiled weakly and pushed again with grit teeth.
“Push again, Aria. You're baby's almost out,” Zira said. “At least we can tell you're baby's a girl, Aria.”
Ryou looked at Aria's pain-filled face and remembered Yami's threat. [I'm afraid I cannot allow Aria
to bear a living child.]
/Bakura, we have to do something about Yami and the curse on Aria./
//One thing at a time, Ryou. Let's see if this one takes its first breath. When we get home, we'll see what we can find in our books.//
Aria closed her eyes tightly. “Seth…..”
“Seto will be here, Aria. Your father is calling him now.”
Aria let out a sob as she pushed again.
Dr. Zira turned the baby as the new life slowly slipped free from the mother's body.
Dr. Zira opened the baby's airway and a little cry filled the room.
Aria fell back on the bed, panting heavily and crying.
Umi and Ryou looked at the baby as Zira held the child up for both to see. The nurse cut the infant's umbilical cord.
”It's a girl, Aria,” Zira said with a smile.
Aria opened one eye and closed it. “Yeah,” she moaned tiredly.
“You still have the after-birth, Aria.”
Aria opened her eyes. “Mother?”
“Yes, honey?”
“Childbirth…..sucks.”
Ryou laughed as he wiped away his own tears. “It's not easy, baby girl, but you did it.”
Zira weighed the baby. “Six pounds, five ounces, Aria. Big baby for as early as you are.”
Zira checked the baby's vital signs. The wailing infant was cleaned and given to Aria.
Aria held her baby in her arms and offered the infant her breast. The baby girl immediately started suckling on her.
Ryou smiled. “She's beautiful, Aria!”
//Ryou, what is it?//
/A baby./
//Wise ass.//
/A baby girl, yami./
Bakura whined. //Not another one….I had a hell of enough time raising Aria.//
Umi smiled and leaned down, kissing Aria gently on the lips. “I love you so much, Aria. She's such a beautiful pearl!”
/I don't think we have to worry about that, Bakura. Umi's going to make a good father for the baby./
Aria stroked her baby's cheek and smiled down at her. “Kailani Baraka Itemri….that's going to be your name. My beautiful little sea and sky. Do you like that, baby girl?”
The infant looked up at her mother with large blue eyes as she continued to nurse from her mother's breast.
Ryou walked over to Zira. “Dr. Zira, I need to speak with you.”
Dr. Zira walked over to the sink to wash his hands. “Well, Ryou, congradulations. Would this make you a grandmother or a grandfather now?”
Ryou shook his head. “Dr. Zira, this is serious. Yami put a curse on my daughter.”
“What?”
“Yami Yugi…the pharaoh…he put a curse on Aria that none of her children would live.”
Zira bit his lip. “Well, this is going to be a hell of an understatement, but that is not good.”
“No, it isn't. Aria already miscarried one baby. I'm concerned that this one may die, too.”
“Well, her baby is premature. I'll have to put it in an incubator like the kind Aten used to be in. The baby will be closely monitored. I also do a thorough examination. I'll have to check for the maturity of her vital organs to make sure all is running well. So far she seems to be healthy.”
Ryou wrapped his arms around himself and bit his lip. “I'm worried, Dr. Zira. I don't want her to lose another baby.”
“Understandable, Ryou. I'll monitor the baby closely. I'll have to put her in the Neonatal Unit. She'll be safe there. The nurses there are good.”
Ryou nodded. “Yes, they are all very nice. They came to tell me when Aten needed me.”
“Exactly. Tell your husband that Aria will be in the Recovery Room shortly.” Zira and Ryou turned as Aria's muffled scream. The nurse had taken care of the afterbirth.
Zira and Ryou returned to Aria's side. “Aria, I'll have some forms for you to fill out. I'll have to put…Kailani, is it?...into the Neonatal Unit. She's premature and I'll have to keep her for close monitoring to see if everything is working right.”
“Can't I show Seth?”
“Who?”
“Seto.”
Zira leaned on the bed. “Tell you what, Aria. I need to keep a close eye on your baby. I think it's best if she is placed in the Neonatal Care immediately. Your mother will show everyone or you can when you're on your feet. Aria, we're going to keep you in the Recovery Room for a while. Then we're going to put you in the same room with Robbie.”
Aria sighed as she looked down at her infant. “You be a good girl for Dr. Zira. Be good for mommy.”
Aria kissed her daughter on the forehead and handed the infant to Zira. She watched Zira carry the baby away and she started to cry.
“I wanted to hold onto my baby!”
Ryou stroked her hair. “I know what you're feeling, Aria. I was like that, too. They took your brother away before anyone could hold him. You're lucky to get to hold her.”
Aria reached out for her mother and held him. “Mother….he took my baby!”
Ryou held his daughter and kissed her forehead. “Oh, sweetheart, she's going to be okay.”
The nurse stood by the bed. “Aria, we're going to take you to the Recovery Room. Kailani will be fine.”
The nurses took Aria to the Recovery Room. Ryou stood by the bed and saw Bakura walk in with Marik, Malik and Aten.
“Glad to see you made it in, Malik,” Ryou said.
“Well, the staff knows me here. It's just the police you have to worry about.”
Bakura walked up to his daughter and kissed her. “How's my little girl?”
Marik hugged Aria and smiled. “Congratulations, Chibi Itemri!”
“Daddy, they took my baby to the Neonatal Unit.”
“Well, Aria, you are early. What did you name her?”
“Kailani Baraka Itemri.”
Malik sat at the edge of the bed. “Why isn't the baby taking Umi's last name?”
“We're not married yet. When we're married, I'll just change the name.”
Aten hugged his sister. “Congratulations, sister!” He kissed her on the cheek.
“Thank you, Aten. I'm sorry I couldn't be more excited now. I just pushed something out of my vagina the size of a watermelon. I'm a little tired.”
Bakura snickered. “Don't tell Seto you pushed something the size of a watermelon out of your vagina.
I don't think we'll ever get him off the floor.”
Ryou, Aten, and Malik laughed.
“In fact,” Aten added with a smile, “I don't know what would bother him more: the reference to a vagina or the thought of a watermelon going through a vagina.”
Aria groaned and rolled her eyes. “Well, it wasn't as fun as you might think. Try pushing a cantaloupe out of your penises and see how it feels. It's not a pleasant feeling.”
Umi pat Aria's arm. “Now, Aria, we're just having fun.”
Aria looked up at her brother. “How is Robbie?”
Aten sighed and sat beside her. “He still doesn't remember me,” he said looking down sadly.
Aria rubbed her brother's arm. “I'll talk to him, Aten. Don't worry.”
Aten sniffled. “Robbie doesn't remember me at all! I want to marry him, Aria…and he doesn't even know me.”
“I'll take care of it, Aten,” the girl said.
The nurse opened the door. “Seto Kaiba and Joey are here. Should I let them in?”
Aria's eyes lit up. “Seth!”
Seto and Joey walked into the Recovery Room with Jaimen and Mokuba.
Seto smiled down at Aria. “Hey, Chibi Yami. How are you feeling?”
Ryou and Malik snickered, remembering Aria's watermelon comment.
Aria yawned. “It hurts. That's all I can say.”
Joey hugged Aria. “We figured you'd be tired, so we only came to see you for a little bit.”
Seto looked down at Aria, her face red and evidently exhausted.
****Flashback******
Seth looked down at his servant girl, her face and body sagged with exhaustion. He reached over and stroked the cheek of his slave girl.
“Aria…..thank you.”
Aria moaned in pain. “How is my child?”
Seth bit his lip. “Rest, Aria.”
“Where is my baby?”
Seth lowered his head. “Rest, Aria. The baby is in good hands now.”
“I love you, Seth…..”
Seth leaned over to kiss his servant girl…..
*********************
Seto opened his eyes and saw his lips inches from Aria's lips. He moved and kissed her cheek instead.
`Stupid flashbacks,' he thought.
Aria reached up and brought Seto into a hug. “Seth,” she whispered. “How is my child?”
Seto wrapped his arms around the trembling teenage girl. “Your baby is going to be fine, Aria. I can't wait to see her.”
Ryou smiled. “Aria, do you want me to take them to see the Kailani? Aria?”
Aria leaned her head against Umi and had fallen asleep.
“Poor thing is exhausted,” Bakura said, brushing his daughter's spiky hair away from her eyes.
“She really had a hard time with the birth,” Umi explained.
Aten turned and rubbed his sister's arm. “I'm glad she's okay.”
Marik snickered. “Well, Bakura, I guess girls run in your family. Looks like we have another girl to raise.”
Bakura sighed. “More dresses….more dolls……more…hair accessories….”
Marik snickered. “I'm so lucky to have a boy.”
Bakura growled. “Bite me, Ishtar!”
“Well, if you're offering, Itemri,” Marik growled as he pounced on Bakura, making the white-haired yami cry out in pain.
Malik grabbed the back of Marik's collar. “Back, yami! We can't wake Aria up!”
Marik stood up. “That never hurt you before, Bakura.”
Bakura held his shoulder. “Ryou and I…were kidnapped by Yami.”
Marik, Malik, and Aten gasped. Aten ran to his mother and hugged him.
“Ra, mother, are you okay? Yami didn't hurt you or rape you, did he?”
Ryou shook his head. “No, honey, I'm okay. But Yami stabbed Bakura in the shoulder.”
Bakura staggered to his feet. “That's not all. He took the power of my Millennium Ring away. I can't steal people's souls. I can't even detect your Millennium Rod now, Marik.”
Marik held up the Millennium Rod. The pointers of the Ring did not move.
“I tried going into the Ring while I was in the waiting room, but I can't go in there.”
Marik raised an eyebrow. “That's strange. Your Ring always reacts to my Rod.”
The blond yami burst out in a fit of laughter.
Bakura growled. “Very funny, jackass. This is serious!”
Marik wiped away the tears coming down his eyes as he laughed.
The white-haired yami grabbed Marik and threw him angrily against the wall. Marik saw the fury in Bakura's eyes as his eyes glowed red. The blond immediately stopped laughing.
“Listen to me, bastard! Yami just fucked with my Millennium Ring and I am in NO mood for your shit, do you hear me?”
Marik swallowed hard. It was not often that the shorter yami intimidated him, but a furious Bakura was not a good thing.
“Yami just took my powers away and he just stabbed my shoulder, which hurts like a bitch! So I am in no mood to deal with you and your sick-ass jokes at a time like this!”
//Yami, calm down.//
/Ryou?.....Do not….get….involved./
/Yes, dear./ Ryou quieted quickly, feeling Bakura's anger through the mindlink.
Joey stepped beside the yamis. “Bakura, Marik was just being himself. Cut the guy some slack.”
“Pups, you have no business meddling in yami affairs. Back off before I break you in half!”
Joey backed away towards Seto.
“Ishtar, Yami placed a curse on my daughter. That baby she just delivered has not a chance of survival,” Bakura said quietly.
“How do you know that?”
Bakura growled. “Yami told us everything. Ishtar, Isis told us that Yami was changing into different people. Do you think she knew about this?”
Marik shrugged. “Why would she hide something like that from us? Isis isn't like that. She should have told us if she was told anything.”
“I don't trust your hikari's sister as far as I can throw her. If she knew about this and didn't tell us, she has put Aria and her baby in jeopardy. And I deserve to know why, as Aria's father, we were not told of this before.”
Marik growled at his lover. “How dare you consider the thought that Isis kept this from us on purpose!”
Malik stepped beside Bakura. “Bakura, this really is not the best place to do this. Aria is very tired from the birth and now is not the time to squabble like a couple of children.”
Bakura snarled at Malik angrily. “This is yami affairs, Hikari Ishtar! So back off, mortal!”
Marik reached out and grabbed Bakura's wounded shoulder, making the white-haired hikari fall to his knees with pain. The blond's spiky hair became more spiky. “Before you start verbally attacking my husband, Itemri, I suggest you cool your emotions. I won't allow anyone to talk to Malik that way.”
Marik gripped the wound harder, making Bakura whimper. Yami Marik's nails sunk into the skin and the wound.
“Marik, stop!” Ryou pleaded.
Yami Marik removed his hand from the wound. “I do not know Isis' motives from keeping all of this away from us. However, right now, with Aria listening, it's best not to discuss this until we are in private. Until then, Itemri, I suggest that you calm yourself….if you know what is good for you.”
Ryou rushed to Bakura's side. “Marik, weren't you a little harsh?”
“Nobody speaks to my husband without respect, Ryou. I will not allow that.”
Seto stood behind Bakura. “Both of you, this is not the right time to do this. Aria is very tired and very sore.”
Marik snarled. “Fine. You're right, moneybags.”
Marik walked out of the room.
Bakura struggled to his feet. “Yami's tearing us apart. It's starting.”
*******************************
Robbie heard the door to his room open. He opened a tired blue eye to see a girl being wheeled into his room.
The girl turned to him and saw her worried expression. “Hello, Robbie.”
Robbie blinked and yawned. “Hello….”
The girl brushed back her white, spiky hair. “Aten said you were hurt. How do you feel?”
Robbie sighed. “Aten? Who's Aten?”
“My younger brother. I'm Aria. Do you remember me?”
Robbie shook his head. “Nope…sorry.”
Aria laid her head back on the hospital bed. “I had the baby, Robbie.”
“You had my baby?”
Aria giggled and closed her eyes tiredly. “No. The baby isn't yours, Robbie.”
“Are you sure?”
“I think I would know if I slept with you, Robbie. And you're not the father.”
Robbie sighed with disappointment. “Oh……”
“My brother is really worried about you, Robbie.”
Robbie shrugged. “I don't remember him.”
The girl sighed. “You must remember something about him! Do you know who hurt you?”
Robbie turned his head away from her. “No. I don't remember anything.”
“It will come to you, Robbie.”
“So when can I see my baby?”
Aria looked down at the IV's in her arm. `How can Aten tolerate these stupid things?'
“When will I see my baby?” Robbie asked again.
“Robbie, the baby is not yours.”
Robbie sighed again. “Pity.”
“Robbie, do you remember anything about Aten?”
“No.”
Aria yawned. “Well, he loves you very much. When he heard you were hurt, I felt overwhelmed by his emotions. He was crying for you, Robbie.”
“Crying's not a good thing.”
“No….he really loves you, Robbie. You're supposed to get married next month. Seto's getting married in two weeks, so you have until then to get your memories back.”
Robbie raised an eyebrow. “Who is marrying?”
“Seto and Unkie Puppy. You know. Big CEO and the blond guy? Have they come to see you yet?”
Robbie shook his head. “I don't know no blond or CEO.”
“Well, they should be coming in soon. They wanted to put us together so this way I could talk to you. Maybe I can help you remember my brother.”
Robbie turned his head away from Aria. “I don't know if I want to remember.”
“Say that to my brother and you will break his heart, Robbie.”
Robbie looked out of the window of the hospital room quietly.
Aria watched as the door to the hospital room opened. Seto and Joey walked in hand in hand.
“Robbie?!” Both asked in unison.
“Robbie, what are you doing here?” Joey asked, running to Robbie's bedside.
“Nothing. Just looking up at the sky.”
Aria looked up at Seto. “Robbie was hurt badly and doesn't remember Aten.”
Joey saw the bandaged teen keep his attention away from the occupants of the room. His stare was blank.
“Robbie, I hope you feel better,” Joey said.
“…………..”
Seto sat beside Aria's bed. “What did you name the baby?”
“Kailani Baraka Itemri. I saw that name in a baby book and I really thought it was pretty. I'll call her Lanie for short.”
Joey's brown eyes lit up. “That's a really pretty name!”
“Thanks, Unkie Puppy.”
Joey groaned. “Am I STILL Unkie Puppy?”
Aria nodded. “Yup. Get used to it, pup-sicle.”
Seto smiled proudly. “Aria's sounding just like me!”
“Can't one of the kids in my family call me Uncle Joey? With no…references to dogs? Just one! That's all I ask!”
Aria snickered. “Don't count on it, canine.”
Seto hugged Aria. “Who's my girl?”
“Nope, Unkie Seto. I'm Chibi Yami Bakura!”
Seto grinned. “Nope. You're Chibi Mommy now, Aria.”
Aria crossed her arms. “Unkie Seto?”
“What?”
”Vagina.”
Seto's face turned red from blushing.
Ryou and Bakura entered the room. “Seto, you okay? You look like a cherry.”
“I'm fine, Ryou….I think.”
Aten stepped into the room and stood beside Robbie's bed. “Hello, Robbie.”
“……….”
Robbie's eyes stared vacantly outside the window. The Egyptian took Robbie's hand and mumbled quietly in Arabic.
Ryou stepped up to Aria. “Your baby's doing fine so far, Aria.”
Aria laid her head back on the bed. She yawned and reached out for her mother's hand. “That's good. They'll probably wake me up at some stupid hour of the morning to feed her.”
Ryou nodded. “They woke me up at 2am and 4am to pump my breast because your teeth hurt me. I couldn't breastfeed you at all because of those canines you got from your father.”
Seto wavered. “Okay. I'm not standing around to listen to information on breastfeeding. I'm going to come back in the morning, Aria. I'm proud of you. Love you, Chibi Bakura.”
Seto kissed Aria on the forehead and hugged her.
Joey hugged Aria, Aten, and Ryou. “Goodbye, guys. Aten, don't forget the art exhibit next week.”
Aten nodded. “I haven't forgotten.”
“Good. See you there, then.”
Joey and Seto left.
“Where's Malik and Marik?”
“They're outside, honey. Marik hasn't been able to go into his Millennium Rod, so he's becoming tired.”
Bakura staggered and grabbed onto Ryou. “He's not the only one, Ryou. I have to go home.”
Aten turned towards his mother. “Mother? I want to go home, too.”
Ryou nodded. “It's time that we do that, Aten. It's late and Aria and Robbie need their rest.”
Aten looked down at Robbie. “Goodnight……beloved.”
“…………….”
Aten stepped away from the crowd and walked beside Robbie's hospital bed and kissed him on the cheek. “I love you, Robbie.”
***************************
Aten sat beside Robbie's bed the next day, his eyes bloodshot from lack of sleep and tears. He watched Robbie sleep as he held his toy monkey doll and Robbie's G.I. Joe. He was hoping to use the toys to bring back Robbie's memories of them together.
Aten sighed as he saw his friend hooked up to the machines. It made him feel helpless, knowing he couldn't bring Robbie's memories back or heal his injuries.
Was this what Robbie felt as he watched him in the hospital bed after his heart attack?
Was this the fear that Robbie felt?
Was this the helpless feeling? Not able to do a damn thing?
Aten turned and saw his sister also sleeping peacefully. Umi sat on the chair beside Aria's bed. His head was tilted back as he snored. From his open mouth a small stream of drool began to slip.
`How can Robbie and Aria sleep through that racket?' the Egyptian thought.
Robbie gave a moan as he opened his eyes. “You again?”
Aten struggled to smile. “Yes, it's me, Robbie.”
“Jiminy Cricket! Who's doing all that snoring?” (I don't own Jiminy Cricket, btw.)
“My sister's fiancé. I don't remember him ever snoring so loud.”
Robbie groaned. “Where is my baby?”
“Baby? Robbie…you don't have a baby. WE don't have a baby.”
Robbie raised an eyebrow. “Are you sure?”
“Robbie…we're two guys…we're together….and gay. No babies here.”
Robbie's eyes widened and his jaw dropped in shock. “I'm gay? Since when?”
Aten tried not to snicker at the question. “Well, we've been friends since we were three years old. We played dolls with Aria. See? I brought you your G.I. Joe doll. This used to be your favorite toy.”
Robbie held the doll in his hand. He tugged at the doll's clothes. ”Great. I used to play with dolls.”
Robbie sounded less than thrilled.
“We've gone through hell together, Robbie.”
Robbie raised an eyebrow. “Are you sure that I'm gay?”
Aten chuckled. “I can prove it to you.”
Aten leaned down and pressed his lips against Robbie's lips slowly. Robbie quickly melted into the kiss. The Egyptian's dark hand touched Robbie's chest lightly, letting his fingertips brush against the skin.
`I…remember…..that…kiss,' the boy thought.
Aten's kisses trailed down to Robbie's chest as he kissed around the tubes and bandages.
Aten's hand touched the warmth of Robbie's belly, the skin tingling under his touch.
“That..touch…familiar…..a memory..'
Aten kissed down to Robbie's belly button and kissed the white skin gingerly.
“Robbie,” Aten moaned as he stopped. He laid his head on Robbie's stomach. Aten kept Robbie's hips and his length under the blankets to keep the escalating panic away as he kissed lower on Robbie's body. “Robbie I'm sorry about our fight.”
“Fight?”
“We had a bad fight last night and I kicked you out of the house.”
Robbie felt a tear trickle down his side.
“Aten, are you crying?”
Aten rubbed his eyes against Robbie's creamy white skin. “Please forgive me, Robbie….gods, I am so sorry!”
Robbie looked down. `This….feels familiar…..'
Aten kissed the skin again. “Please forgive me, Robbie….I never meant to hurt you like I have!”
Robbie reached out and buried his fingers into the tuft of white and blond hair draped over his skin.
Aten looked at Robbie with eyes of fear. Robbie's fingers were buried in his hair…..and his face was low enough on Robbie to allow Robbie to force him to do whatever he wanted.
Instead of pushing his head further down on his body, Robbie stroked the white and blond hair.
“I……Aten?”
Aten blinked and sniffled. “Yes?”
“I….I think…..”
“Yes, beloved?”
“I…think I remember….but…it's hard.”
Aten smiled. “Don't worry, love. I'll help you to remember. We'll do this together.”
