Up In Smoke

Bakura ran towards the museum, but the police held him back.
“Sir, you cannot go in there! The building's on fire!”
Bakura narrowed his eyes. “I have to go in there! My friends are in there! I have to go!”
Another man grabbed onto Bakura's arm. “Sir, this is for your own safety.”
Bakura tore himself from the police. “LET GO OF ME! I HAVE TO SAVE THEM!”
Bakura ran up the stairs, his body already sweating from the heat of the fire. He removed his shirt and wrapped it around his arm.
With a quick motion, he shattered the glass with his arm. The glass splintered and fell onto the ground. Thick black smoke bellowed out of the broken pane.
The white-haired yami coughed as his lungs breathed in the smoke and the heat.
“I can't let Malik die…..”
Bakura continued to smash the window until he could enter the museum without getting cut by the glass.
“MALIK! MAXIE!”
Bakura looked up as he heard a creak. The flaming ceiling was falling down!
Bakura jumped ahead as the burning wood blocked his exit.
“Oh…shit! I'll have to find another way out!”
Bakura ran towards the library, running down the hall of weaponry.
At the end of the hallway, Yami appeared and Bakura stopped short.
“Hello…Itemri.”
Bakura narrowed his eyes and coughed. “Pharaoh! Are you responsible for this?!”
Yami grinned. “Nobody will find out the truth about my reign, Itemri. Malik and Isis will die for what they know.”
Bakura jumped to the side as more blazing wood fell beside him.
The yami could feel his skin becoming covered in sweat.
The hallway felt like an oven. The bitter smell of the black smoke was nauseating. The sound of the destructive flames roared around him.
Yami grinned. “Without your powers, Itemri, you are as good as mortal. You may still retreat to the Ring, but you cannot rest there. This blaze will destroy more than just Isis and Malik's life. You will perish, too.”
Bakura leaned against the glass of the weaponry display. His vision was going and the air was growing thinner as the smoke filled the air.
He looked to the side and smashed the display case. He grabbed a weapon and held it in his hands.
“Not if I have anything to say about it!”
Yami's eyes widened. “THE MILLENNIUM TRIDENT!”
Bakura looked at the trident in his hands and grinned. “Are you afraid of a little trident, pharaoh?
Yami backed away and Bakura jabbed the air with it. “What are you going to do with that?”
Bakura growled. “I'm going to send you to Hell.”
Yami growled and smashed the display case with his arm. He grabbed the artifact within: The Scepter of Ra.
“Now I have Aten's Item!”
Bakura watched as Aten's Item glowed with a black light. The red jewel glowed a crimson red.
“I won't let you get away, pharaoh!”
Bakura lunged at Yami with the Millennium Trident. Yami raised the Scepter of Ra and blocked the attack.
“Good try, Itemri!” Yami grinned.
Bakura whacked Yami with the handle of the trident, making the pharaoh stagger back.
Yami blocked another one of Bakura's blows….and another.
Bakura gagged and choked as he smoke became thicker. His body was covered with sweat which began to creep down his body.
Yami coughed and gripped the Scepter of Ra in his hands. “I won't let you escape me, Itemri!”
Yami lunged for Bakura and Bakura raked his arm with the Trident, causing an open wound on Yami's arm.
The pharaoh gripped his arm tightly, growling in pain.
Bakura growled and kicked Yami's back, knocking him towards a pile of blazing tapestries.
Yami fell into them and shed his fiery clothing.
Bakura gripped the Millennium Trident and narrowed his eyes at the shirtless pharaoh before him. Bakura jumped to the side as more blazing debris fell.
“You're not going to get out of here alive, Bakura. I wouldn't be surprised if Malik and Maxine were already dead from smoke inhalation!”
Bakura growled. “You bastard!”
Yami raised his hand and fired an energy ball at Bakura. The yami ducked to avoid the impact and darted out of the way as the wall exploded from the blast.
Bakura lunged at Yami, who blocked the attack with the Scepter of Ra.
“Why won't its magic activate?” Yami growled.
“That isn't your item, pharaoh!”
Bakura punched Yami in the face and kicked him back again. Blood crept down the pharaoh's chin.
“You made me bleed, Tomb Robber!”
Bakura growled. “It's nothing compared to what you've done to my baby girl and Aten!”
Yami grinned. “This blood is nothing compared to what she sheds when she births her next child. She will die as a result.”
“What are you talking about?”
Yami grinned. “Your daughter has conceived again according to the Book of Prophecy!”
“YOU LIE!”
“No, Tomb Robber….she will bear a son who will get strangled with his own cord of life.”
Bakura growled. “ENOUGH OF YOUR LIES!”
Bakura lunged at Yami and collided with the Scepter of Ra again. Around the two combatants, the smoke filled their lungs and made breathing difficult.
Yami kicked Bakura back into a display case, shattering it.
Bakura looked up and saw the pharaoh lunging towards him.
Bakura held up the Millennium Trident at the last minute and Yami suddenly stopped his advance.
The white-haired yami looked up and saw the Trident had pierced the pharaoh's chest.
The Scepter of Ra dropped from Yami's hands.
Bakura narrowed his eyes and twisted the Millennium Trident, tearing inside the pharaoh.
“That is for my daughter, you sick bastard!”
Bakura grabbed the Scepter of Ra and staggered to his feet. He shoved the Trident further into the pharaoh's chest and snarled. “This is for Aten!”
Bakura swung the Scepter of Ra, embedding the spikes into the side of Yami's face.
The pharaoh let out a garbled scream and collapsed.
The thief coughed as he removed the trident and Scepter spikes from Yami's body.
He ran into the library and felt his skin begin to burn from the intensity of the flames.
“MALIK! MAXIE!”
Bakura tripped over something on the floor and looked down. Malik had been stabbed and was unconscious. “Don't worry, baby. I'll get you out of here!”
Bakura ran to the window of the library and smashed them with the Millennium Trident and the scepter. He tossed the Items out of the window and ran for his fallen lover.
He removed the spear from Malik's shoulder and used the blade to cut the leg of his jeans. He tied the torn material around Malik's shoulder.
Bakura fell forward on his hands as the smoke began to overcome him. “Must….get….Malik…out.”
His body started to grow faint.
“I can't give up. Hold on, Malik.”
Bakura carried Malik over to the window and lowered him onto the ground below slowly. It was not a far drop. It was better that Malik escape with bruises rather than dying of suffocation.
Bakura found Maxine by the shelves unconscious. “I kicked his ass for you, Maxine! Don't worry, I'll get you out of here!”
Bakura helped her through the window and watched her fall on top of Malik.
The yami grinned as he looked at the position in which they had fallen. Under different circumstances, it would have been funny to see Maxine piled on top of Malik in a heap.
Bakura coughed again and climbed out of the window. He carried Maxine away from the building and ran for Malik. He carried the Trident and the Scepter under his arms as he carried Malik.
He placed Malik on the ground and checked his breathing.
“He's not breathing! Oh…RA DAMN IT! Why didn't I ever pay better attention in Ryou's Health Class?! Okay…calm down, Itemri….first there was the nose thing. I had to….PINCH IT! I pinched Ryou's nose so he would open his mouth!”
Bakura pinched Malik's nose.
“I remember that night….I beat the shit out of Ryou…..I remember imitating the movements! I…pulled Ryou's head back…”
Bakura tilted Malik's head back gently.
“I kissed Ryou! But that wasn't it! Something with the mouth…..OH RA DAMN IT!.....I remember the man blowing into the victim's mouth! I forced Ryou to give me oral sex that night! THAT'S IT! BLOW….INTO THE MOUTH!”
Bakura placed his lips onto Malik's lips and breathed into the unconscious man. “There's something more to this! Pressing…..on the chest! I held Ryou face down on the bed!”
Bakura pressed on Malik's chest and repeated breathing into his mouth.
“Come on, baby! Breathe!”
Bakura pressed on Malik again and breathed air into his lungs. “Come on, baby….please,” Bakura pleaded as tears trickled down his cheeks. “Please don't die on me, Malik….oh please!”
Bakura pressed on Malik's chest again and breathed into his lungs. “Malik…don't die! Osiris…don't take him from me.”
Bakura coughed as he felt the bitter night air sting his heat-abused skin.
His body felt weak as he checked Maxine. He quickly breathed into her and pressed on her chest to get her to breathe. He repeated the process and she opened her eyes as she saw him kissing her.
“BAKURA!”
Bakura grinned. “Hey, you're awake!”
Maxine coughed violently as Bakura returned to Malik.
“Malik, come on…don't do this to me, Rod-Boy!”
Bakura breathed into Malik's mouth and the Egyptian flew into a coughing fit.
Malik looked up at the yami with sweat covering his face and part of his skin stained with blood.
“Bak---ura!”
Bakura held Malik close to him. He rocked the other Egyptian in his arms and kissed his forehead. “It's going to be okay, Malik.”
Maxine looked at the museum on fire and back at Bakura. “Bakura….you saved us.”
The yami's lip curled into a smile. “I couldn't let you die. Xiao-Shen needs his mother. I couldn't let Malik die. I'd lose someone near and dear to me….and I don't want that to happen. Shhh…Malik. It's okay.”
“Yami! Yami caught us in the library,” Maxine said as she breathed deeply.
“I took care of Yami,” Bakura said petting Malik's hair. “We won't have to worry about him for a while.”
Maxine picked up the Scepter of Ra. “You stole this?”
Bakura shook his head. “No. Well…..depends on what your definition of `steal' is. I saved it from Yami. I used my daughter's Millennium Trident to wound the sick bastard.”
Maxine struggled to her feet. “Let me get…*cough*….Isis.”
The thief walked around the burning building as Bakura hid the Millennium Items under the bush beside him. If policemen followed Maxine, he didn't want to be arrested for possession of these artifacts.
Isis and the police ran towards them at top speed. Isis hugged her brother tightly. “Bakura, you saved them!”
“I couldn't leave them to fry in there, Isis. Malik, Maxine, you should go to the hospital.”
“Shouldn't you, too, Bakura?” Isis asked.
Bakura sighed. “I'm going to be with Malik. I'll be fine. I just need some rest.”
“What about your Ring?”
Bakura shook his head. “I can't heal in there anymore. I went to go put some treats into my soulroom and it stung. I couldn't be there for long.”
The policeman ran to get the medic team.
“I want to be with Malik, Isis. Will you be okay?”
“I can't leave my brother any more than you can.”
Bakura nodded and kissed Malik again. “Don't worry, love. We'll get you help.”
Isis looked up at the burning building. “All of those ancient treasures…..gone.”
Bakura reached into the bush. “I managed to save two things.”
Isis sat the Trident and the Scepter of Ra laying on the ground. She gasped. “You saved them! Yami knows that without these, the kids cannot win against him in the Epic Battle!”
“Well, I saved them. Yami could not tap into the power of the Scepter of Ra.”
Isis picked up the Scepter. “Of course he cannot. This Scepter of Ra has a power all of its own. Only a family member of the House of Ishtar can tap into its true powers.”
“Only someone from the House of Ishtar? I couldn't tap into the magic, then.”
“No. Only someone with Ishtar Blood can tap into its magic. Thank you for rescuing them.”
Bakura shrugged. “I couldn't let Yami hold the Scepter. I impaled him with the Millennium Trident.”
Isis picked up the Millennium Trident and watched Yami's blood seep slowly into the metal of the Trident. The gold of the Trident began to glow crimson as Yami's blood was absorbed into the metal.
“What the hell?” Bakura asked in shock.
“The Trident's powers have just become stronger. Its powers rely on bloodshed to power it.”
Bakura held onto Malik. “When Ryou was pregnant, I remember Anubis telling me that my daughter will grow up into a murderer. Do you think this Trident will make that prophecy come true?”
Isis placed the Trident on the ground. “This Trident ends up saving your daughter's life, Bakura.”
“But I don't want my daughter to SENSELESSLY kill people! I've always taught her `if you're going to kill someone, make sure it's done for the right reasons.'”
A small smile crept onto Isis' lips. “Has your daughter always obeyed those words?”
“To my knowledge. I've told her that ever since she was still in diapers. `Kill if you must…..but kill with a reason.'”
Isis put a hand on Bakura's red shoulder. “Your daughter loves you very much. She admires you for many reasons. However, she is strong and stubborn. She'll find her way in the world.”
“That is all I want. I want her to be happy.” Bakura looked at the flames which had now engulfed the second floor.
His brown eyes looked sadly at the museum ablaze. `There goes my only chance for helping my daughter…..Up in smoke.'
**************************
Aten looked around the shadows as he walked beside his father. Aria brushed her hair behind her shoulders.
“So what do you think of the place?”
“Well, it will be a good place for the party. It's close to home.”
Marik grinned and put his arm around his son's shoulders. “My boy's ready to take the plunge into married life!”
Aten snickered. “It's a big step.”
“I didn't call it a plunge for nothing, boy. There will be good times and bad. The trick is to roll with the punches.”
Aten sighed. “I know, father. I hope Malik and Father Bakura will be home in time.”
“I don't see why not.”
Aria stopped as she grabbed Marik. “Get in there!”
Aria pushed Marik into the shadows as a police car slowly drove down the street. Aten leaned against the wall, trying to look casual.
The cops stopped in front of the two teens. “Hey, kids, it's past curfew.”
Aria brushed her spiky white hair behind her shoulders again. “Aww…We're not doing any harm,” she said as she put her hands on her hips.
“We're just enjoying a nice night,” Aten added with a smile.
“Get your butts home, kids.”
Aria grinned as she leaned towards Aten. “If my dad was here, this would be the point where my dad would pull down his pants and show them his ass.”
Aten shook his head. “No way, sister. I am NOT running home! No way.”
“Aww…it could be fun to moon the cops! Come on, Aten. You do it!”
“No.”
“You're no fun.”
“No, I'm being practical. I cannot run at all, Aria. I'd be caught in no time, they'll throw me in the Lock-Up and I'll have all of those sick men with their hands all over me in prison. No way.”
“Can't you just show a little ass to them?”
“NO!”
The cops stopped their cars. “Kids, get home or we'll have to arrest you.”
Aria rolled her eyes. “Oh, I'm so scared!”
“Aria! Stop it!”
From the alleyway, a cry of pain resonated. Aten turned and saw his father on his knees holding his shoulder.
“What was that?!” the cops gasped.
Aria narrowed her eyes. “Oh Shit.”
Aten ran to his father. “Father, come on…get up.”
Marik struggled to his feet as his shoulder bled crimson. “Malik….”
“Aten, get your dad out of here! I'll handle the boys in blue!”
Aria grinned and her hair spiked. Her nails grew sharp and her canines sharpened. “Let's dance, boys!”
Aten lead Marik down the alley as Aria placed a barrier at the entrance to the alley.
The police stood at the entrance to the alley and pointed their guns at her. “Step up against the wall! Now, missy!”
Aria grinned. “Or what are you going to do? Frisk me like a naughty little girl that I am?”
The men kept their weapons trained on Aria. “We mean it, missy! Get against the wall and spread your legs! Prepare to be searched!”
Aria licked her lips. “Kinky….but no thanks.”
Aria calmly turned around and proceeded to calmly follow her brother and Marik.
“Stop or we'll shoot!” the men shouted.
“It's your funeral,” she said calmly.
“Halt!”
The cops fired and the bullets ricocheted off of the barrier and into their bodies.
Aria turned and saw the two cops laying dead on the ground. “I tried to warn you it was your funeral. Don't say I didn't warn you.”
Aten helped Marik down the alley and out into another street. “We're not far from home, father.”
“Malik….something's wrong.”
“Hold on, father. We'll get you home.”
Aria stepped out of the alley and looked around for signs of more police.
Aten narrowed his eyes. “This stinks! I'm tired of watching everywhere I go! I can't even walk down the street without being chased because I look like Malik!”
“We have to get home quickly, Aten. Follow me.”
Aria lead the Ishtars through the shadows and the dark side streets to their neighborhood. Aria grinned. “Father taught me how to use the shadows to move around.”
Marik winced. “What the hell happened to Malik's shoulder?”
“Hold on, father. We're almost there.”
Aria stopped when she saw police cars patrolling the neighborhood. “Robbie's house! Come on!”
Aria ran up to Robbie's house and knocked on the door. “Miranda! Robbie!”
Miranda opened the door. “Aria? Marik! Your shoulder! Come on in!”
Aten lead Marik into the kitchen. “He was fine one minute and the next minute we saw his shoulder bleeding through his shirt!”
Aria stood by Marik. “Let's see the injury, Father Marik.”
Marik slowly removed his hand and revealed a fresh crimson wound.
Miranda grabbed the First Aid kit. “Remove your shirt, Marik.”
Marik grinned and raised an eyebrow. “What if your husband were to talk in?”
“Daniel won't be back until next week. Now take off your shirt.”
Marik snickered. “Can I take my pants off, too?”
Miranda shook her head. “Shirt will be fine. Trust me.”
Marik removed his shirt with a painful grunt. Aten gasped and touched the injury, making his father growl.
“What could have caused this?”
“Malik…..there's no other explanation. This has never happened before. When I was injured worse before he never felt the pain.”
Aria scratched her hair. “Well, you said Yami screwed up the Rod's magic. Maybe he also affected the way in which you and Malik's mindlink works.”
Marik shrugged. “I wonder how Ryou is doing.”
Aria narrowed her eyes. “I'll go check on mother.”
Aria ran out of the house as Miranda dabbed a cotton ball in alcohol.
“This will hurt, Marik.”
Marik growled as the alcohol stung the injury. “OW!”
“Oh, come on, Marik. It can't be worse than being shot in the back.”
“From personal experience, this hurts more!”
Miranda grinned and kissed the injury. She pulled back and smiled down at him. “There. Does that make it all better?”
Marik grinned. “Well….there's one other place I hurt…Would you kiss me there if I showed you were it was?”
“Forget it, sweetcakes.”
Aten looked around. “Where's Robbie?”
“He's at choir practice. He really likes that new church.” Miranda polled some gauze around Marik's injury.
The yami watched her carefully as she gently bandaged him up. He looked up at her and for a moment had seen Amunet smiling down at him.
“You do this well.”
She applied some tape to the bandages to keep them in place. “Well, I had to bandage Robbie's feet when he was a baby. And well…..I taught myself early how to bandage my own injuries. I just really perfected it with Robbie and his foot. How's that feel?”
“Much better than it did. Thank you, Miranda.”
“Don't mention it, Marik.”
“Soooo…you're not going to kiss anywhere else it hurts?”
Miranda crossed her arms. “No. Ryou can take care of kissing that for you.”
Aten groaned. “Mom! Don't make me imagine my mom kissing my dad THERE!”
Miranda smiled. “Sorry, Aten.”
“Father, we should get home to see how mother is.”
Marik sighed. “Yeah, we should go check on him. Thank you for your help, Miranda.”
The door opened up. “Mom, I'm home!”
Miranda heard a happy little squeal and the familiar accompanying “ROBBIE!!!!”
Miranda shook her head. “He still sounds like a kid when he does that.”
Robbie hugged Aten. “What are you doing here?”
“We had a slight detour coming home.”
Robbie saw Marik standing shirtless with his mother. “Ummm….Marik? Why don't you have a shirt on?”
Marik grinned. “Just wanted to show your mother my nipples.”
Robbie raised an eyebrow. “What happened? You were hurt?”
“I'm not sure. I can't ask Malik what's going on through the mindlink. He and Bakura are in Egypt tracking down Isis.”
“I hope they're okay,” Robbie said as he held Aten in his arms.
Aten nodded. “Me, too.”
“Well, it's time for us to go home, son.”
Aten looked up at his father with large chibi eyes. “Do we have to go so soon? Can I stay over? Mom?”
Robbie grinned. “Yeah, mom, Aten and I have to….umm….get my room ready for his stuff when he moves in next week.”
“Can I stay, mom? Please?” Aten's large eyes pleaded with her.
She sighed. “You and those darn eyes, Aten.”
Aten grinned. “What eyes?”
“Very funny, mister. Fine. You can stay. We have some of your medication here.”
Aten hugged Miranda tightly. “Thank you, mom!”
“Okay, Aten. You be good.”
“Yes, sir.”
Marik hugged Aten and kissed his cheek. “See you tomorrow.”
Marik turned to Miranda. “Do I get a kiss, too?”
Miranda snickered. “We're not family yet, Marik.”
Marik sighed. “You'll kiss me some day.”
“I suppose you'll use your Rod to do it, huh?”
Marik grinned. “My Rod always gets me what I desire. Nobody can resist the power of my Millennium Rod!”
Marik left the house with his heart rate fluttering. Miranda bandaged him…her touch was so soft….like Amunet's. Her black hair and her eyes were so similar to Amunet's.
Marik rushed home and called for Ryou.
“Up here, love!” Ryou called from the bathroom.
Marik raced up the stairs and found Ryou in the bathtub. The pink Bubble-Gum scented bubbles covered his body from view.
“How are you doing? Are you okay? Aria said that you were hurt.”
Marik sat at the edge of the tub. “My shoulder started to bleed. I can't reach Malik through the mindlink, but I can tell he's okay.”
Ryou gasped. “I hope they're both okay. Bakura told me that Malik was going to be okay. He let me know what happened through the mindlink.”
“What happened?”
“Bakura saved Maxine and Malik from the burning museum. Apparently Yami set the museum on fire.”
Marik gasped. “Holy shit!”
Ryou nodded. “But he managed to get Malik and Maxine to safety. I was wondering why I felt stiff and sore. And I found him retrieving some…..unpleasant memories…..so I felt I needed to come in here and have a bubble bath.”
Marik grinned. “A Bubble Gum bath?”
The white haired hikari smiled. “It's wonderful. You just let the bubbles melt all your cares away.”
Marik licked his lips. “Oh really?”
Ryou nodded with his eyes closed. “Oh yes….perfect relaxation. The bubbles just make it all better. All I need after this is a hot cup of Chai Tea. Oh, yummy.”
Marik leaned down and kissed the exposed crevice of Ryou's neck. With a hungry moan, he ran his hands over Ryou's sore shoulders.
“Definitely delicious,” Marik grinned.
The white haired hikari grinned. “Do that again, sweetheart.”
Marik leaned down and kissed the juncture of Ryou's neck again. He took his time peppering the skin with kisses and affectionately lapping at the sensitive area.
Ryou turned his head towards Marik and kissed him. His hands reached up to stroke the yami's cheek.
Marik's hands brushed over Ryou's bubble-covered chest. The foam was spread over Ryou's skin as Marik rubbed him.
Marik pulled back slightly from the kiss and watched as the mortal man's breaths came in sharp gasps.
“You like it when I touch you, Ryou?”
“Yes.”
Marik's hands slipped slowly under the surface of the water. The hikari closed his eyes awaiting the inevitable contact……
