The New Prince
Aria laid on the blanket with her head on Umi's lap. She looked up at the tree branches above her. She took a deep breath and sighed.
“Such a nice day,” she sighed.
Robbie closed his eyes and smiled beside her as he rested his head on Aten's thigh. “It sure is,” he smiled.
Aria winced as she felt a movement in her belly.
“You okay, Aria?” Aten asked as he felt her concern through their mindlink.
“Yeah, the baby is moving around a lot.”
Robbie reached over and felt her stomach. “He's an active one, alright. Feel it, Aten.”
Aten shook his head. “I'm not touching my pregnant sister's belly.”
“Aww…come on.”
Aten sighed and put his hand on her belly. He could feel the baby nuzzle against his hand.
“Isn't that cool?” Robbie asked.
`That kid has no idea what it's like to be out here,' Aten thought to himself. `Enjoy your time in there, little one. Nobody can harm you in there.'
“It's a strange feeling,” Aten responded.
Umi ran his fingers through his blue hair as the June breeze blew through it. “I hope the baby has my hair.”
Aria laughed. “It would be funny if he had my hair with your color. A blue-spiky haired chibi yami.”
Aten raised an eyebrow. “I wonder if the baby will have Shadow Magic.”
Aria shrugged. “I don't know. We'll find out.”
The girl closed her eyes and faded into sleep.
****Dream Sequence*****
Aria walked down the long hallway, her robe showing her very pregnant belly. The servants bowed to her and she smiled in return.
At the front of a big door, Seth stood.
“Hello, my lord,” she smiled seductively.
“Aria, my love,” Seth said as he cupped her cheeks in his hands. “I've wanted to spend the night with you…”
She smiled and blushed. “If that is your wish, my lord.”
“It is.”
Seth opened the door and lead her inside. He shut the door behind him and removed his cape. “Aria, I'm glad you've decided to bed with me tonight.”
“I cannot deny the one that I love…the one who has kept me safe from Yami's wrath for so many years…I cannot deny the one who loved me first.”
Seth removed his neckpiece and removed his robe, standing naked before her. He kissed her lips and fell to his knees before her. “My Aria…..My beautiful wife.”
Seth kissed her pregnant belly. “I cannot resist you…..I want to give myself to you tonight….I want to make love to you under the light of the moon god, Khons.”
Aria removed her headdress and slipped her white linens off of her body.
Seth lead Aria to the bed where the moonlight lit the sheets with a soft glow.
Seth laid beside her and caressed her body. “You are my goddess,” Seth whispered as his fingers ghosted over her left breast….
********************
Aria's eyes snapped open. “Wow…that felt….real.”
“What were you dreaming about?” Robbie asked. “You were moaning.”
“Oh…I was? Sorry about that.”
“What were you dreaming?” Aten asked.
“Umm…pregnancy dreams….they get kind of weird, you know.”
Aten and Robbie shrugged. “We wouldn't know,” they said in unison.
Aria winced as she felt a familiar pain around her stomach.
Robbie's eyes widened. “Umm…Aria? Please tell me you just spilled the water jug.”
Robbie's eyes went wide. “That's not water….”
Umi frantically drove Aria and his friends to the hospital.
Aten called his father on Umi's cell phone. “Hey, dad!”
/SON! How are ---?/
“Dad, Aria's in labor! Umi's taking us to the hospital now!”
/How the hell did he get his father's car? Does he have his license?/
“That's not important now! Get mother and tell him to get to Domino Hospital!”
/Okay, Aten. We'll see you there, boy./
*********************************
Aria gripped her mother's hand tightly. Her heaving breaths became more sharp as the pain flooded her body.
Aria clenched her teeth tightly.
Ryou took a cold washcloth and touched her forehead. “Bear down, baby girl. Deep breaths.”
Aria sobbed as she held onto her mother. “I ….don't want….to have this baby…I'm not ready, mommy.”
Ryou held her hand tighter. “Honey, the baby is going to be born ready or not, angel.”
Aria's brown eyes looked into her mothers, the look of which Ryou had never seen. Aria….was afraid.
She had been afraid on a couple occasions in her lifetime, but this was the ultimate look of fear.
“I don't want my baby to be born dead,” her voice squeaked. “I don't want my baby to die. Please don't say the baby will die, mommy.”
Ryou's heart gripped at the sorrowful pleas of his daughter. “Baby, Zira is a good doctor. Besides, you haven't removed Malik's good-luck charm.”
Aria turned her face away from her mother. “That's because I can't bear to lose another baby like I lost Kailani. I can't lose another baby again.”
Ryou caressed her hair. “Think positive, baby.”
“Mother, you try pushing something out the size of a watermelon out of your penis and see how much pain you are in! You try burying a baby and let's see how you feel!”
Ryou sighed. “Aria?......I will bury a baby…..I will bury your brother. And I know I will cry. I will cry very much for your brother when he dies.”
Aria's eyes filled with tears. “I…I'm so sorry, mom…I'm just…I'm scared…and in a lot of discomfort.”
Ryou wiped away a tear. “I know you are upset, Aria. Just relax, baby girl.”
Aria arched her back as another scream tore her throat. “RA-FUCKING PAINKILLERS!!!! PAINLESS BIRTH MY ASS!!!”
The mother winced as his daughter's cursing filled the room.
Umi and Zira entered the room all scrubbed and ready to deliver the baby.
“Let's see how you're doing, Aria,” the old doctor said as he lifted the cloth. “Hmm…you're almost fully dilated.”
“I better be fucking dilated!!!”
Umi moved to Aria's side. “Take a deep breath, Aria.”
“Easy for you to say, bastard!”
“Now, now, Chibi Bakura,” Zira said waving his finger. “Umi is just trying to help.”
Aria released her mother and hugged Umi. “I'm so sorry, Umi! I'm scared.”
“I know you are, Little Mermaid. I'm scared, too. Let's do this together.”
“Umi?”
“Yeah?”
“What if….What if the baby…..?”
Umi smiled down at her. “Then we handle it together, Aria.”
Aria nodded and winced as another wave of contractions hit her. “Damn men,” she whispered. “Can't live with them…can't have….heterosexual sex without them.”
Ryou nodded. “You have a point, Aria.”
Zira stood between the girl's legs as the nurse entered the room to assist him.
“Aria, you should be feeling pressure.”
The girl nodded.
“I want you to push when you have your contractions.”
“Is a vaginal birth possible, doctor?”
Zira stepped around and put his hands on Aria's stomach. He felt the baby's position. “You did an ultrasound?”
“Yes, the baby is in the birth canal. The cord isn't obstructing the birth.”
Zira looked at the girl with her legs in the stirrups. “Aria, it feels like your baby is ready.”
Aria's head fell back on the chair. “No…I can't give birth! I can't do it!”
“Aria, you can't stop it,” Zira said.
Aria sobbed. “I don't want my baby to die!”
Zira stepped beside Ryou. “Aria Kanika Ite---I mean, Aria Kanika Tsunami….look at me.”
Another wave of pain flooded her and she looked up at her doctor, trembling.
“Since when have I ever lead you down the wrong path?”
Aria shook her head. “N-Never.”
“Do you want your baby to live?”
Aria whimpered a quiet `Yes.'
“Then, my dear, you have to trust me.”
Aria closed her eyes and a tear escaped. “Okay, Dr. Zira.”
“I delivered you and your brother into this world, Aria. Aten had little if no chance of survival and he's still here. That boy's cheated death more times than I can count already.”
The nurse looked between Aria's spread legs. “Doctor, the baby!”
“Trust me, Aria. I won't let anything happen to this baby.”
“Aria, do you know if it's a boy or girl?” Ryou asked.
Umi shook his head. “We wanted to be surprised.”
Zira stood between Aria's legs and lifted the blanket covering her thighs. “Aria, you're fully dilated now. Push with the contractions, sweetheart.”
Aria felt her muscles tensed and she pushed. She fell back on the chair after the hard push, her forehead covered in a thick blanket of sweat.
“Good girl,” Ryou said dabbing her face with the wet cloth.
Aria clutched Ryou's hand and pushed again. She once again fell back on the chair. “Mother….”
“You're doing very well, Aria.”
“I can't---.”
Ryou leaned over and kissed her forehead. “I know you can. I believe in you, angel. You are a strong girl. Trust me.”
Aria tried holding back, but it was no use. She felt the urge to push again.
“I can see the crown of the head, Aria!” Zira said excitedly. “Umi, come here.”
Umi walked around and saw the head of the baby start to peek through. He felt a torrent of emotions.
Excitement. Fear. Joy. Sadness….Nausea.
He didn't know whether his stomach was turning because of the excitement of seeing his own baby being born or the amount of blood involved in bringing his baby into the world.
“You're doing great, Aria,” Umi said
Zira reached under the infant's skull and cleared the baby's windpipe as its head emerged from the mother's body.
Aria heard the newborn cry from under the blanket and she stopped pushing. “Oh no…the baby's still alive!”
“That's good news, Aria, keep pushing,” Zira said calmly.
Aria pushed again, despite her struggle not to submit to the contractions. The baby's body emerged from the mother's body. Its tiny cries sounded as Zira held the naked, wailing, bloody child.
The tiny fingers flexed in and out as it cried.
“Congratulations, Mr. Tsunami,” Zira said quietly.
“What is it?!” Umi asked excitedly.
“It's a boy, Umi.”
Umi smiled ear-to-ear. “I have a boy?! Aria, we have a boy!”
Aria didn't hear him. Aria had pulled Ryou against her and she was sobbing.
The doctor carried the baby over to be cleaned as Umi stood beside her.
“Aria, the baby is okay. Don't worry. The baby looks fine.”
“It's going to die,” she wept against her mother. “If I don't look at it, I won't get attached to it.”
Zira cleaned the baby. “The baby boy weighs in at 6 pounds 3 ounces, Aria.”
Aria sobbed. “I can't look at him.”
The doctor wrapped the baby boy in a blue blanket and carried him over to Aria. “Aria Kanika?”
“No, I can't look at him. He's going to die.”
Zira looked down at the swaddled newborn. “This child needs his mother, Aria. Look at this little life and try to deny him.”
“Aria, darling, please look at him,” Ryou said calmly.
Aria slowly turned towards Zira holding her new baby.
“Aria, this baby needs his mother,” Zira said quietly.
The girl looked at the child as if it were a million miles away. She wanted to reach out for it, but if she touched it, it would become real. She would become instantly attached to the life that had grown in her womb.
`I can't touch it…..I can't become attached to him.'
Umi took the baby from Zira and cradled him in his arms. “Aria? Don't you want to hold our son?”
Aria sniffled and shifted away from Ryou. She opened her arms. “Just for a moment.”
Umi carefully placed the newborn baby boy in his mother's arms. Aria held the baby and looked down at him. She looked in the crystal blue eyes that were looking up to her in wonder. She cradled him against her breast and her eyes filled up with tears.
Slowly, she caressed the baby's cheek and the child began to whimper. “My baby boy is hungry?”
Aria moved her hospital gown to free one of her breasts. The baby's mouth found the nipple and hungrily fed off of the mother. Aria looked down at the baby watching her.
“Umi, any idea what you're going to name the baby?”
Umi was smiling proudly. “Well, we never expected a boy. I want to name him Kai….and since my name has a God of the Sea, my son should have one, too. What do you think, Aria?”
Aria's gaze remained fixated on the baby as he nursed.
“Okay, then….Kai…Kai Neptune Tsunami. That's his name.”
“There you go…Kai Neptune Tsunami was born on June 16th at 2:15 a.m. I'll make sure to get the paperwork that you need to sign, Umi. Since you are still a minor, your father may need to sign some of these documents, too, since he is your legal guardian.”
The baby stopped nursing and yawned in Aria's arms. The infant cuddled against her chest and closed her eyes.
“Kai? Kai, don't die on me!”
The baby slowly breathed.
“Aria, he's just sleeping,” Umi whispered quietly.
Aria held the baby close to her and sniffled. “I don't want to lose him.”
“You won't, Aria,” Zira said. “I promise.”
********************************
A few days later, Kai and Aria were permitted to return home. Aria laid in bed the entire day when she returned to the house. She sighed with resignation as the baby cried from the crib.
Aria's own cries rose from the bed and mixed with that of the baby boy's.
Ryou opened the door a little and peeked at his daughter. “Aria?”
Umi stepped behind Ryou. “Ryou, I can't get her out of bed. Even at the hospital she just cried and cried. And she doesn't seem interested in the baby at all.”
Ryou sighed. “Post-partum depression is a hard thing, Umi….Trust me.”
Ryou entered the room. “Aria, darling?”
“What is it?” she snapped, tears still falling from her cheeks.
Umi went to his son and picked him up. “What's the matter, baby boy?”
Umi's nose wrinkled. “You need your diapee changed! Let's go do this elsewhere, kiddo.”
Umi took the baby out of the room as Bakura climbed the steps. The baby's legs dangled in Umi's arms.
“How is Aria?”
“Depressed.”
“What's up with the kid?”
“Bakura, I hate to ask this, but can you change him? I have to go be with Aria.”
Bakura held the baby boy in his arms. “Where are your diapers?”
Umi ran into the room and grabbed the powder and the diaper. He ran out with them and handed them to Bakura.
“Thank you so much!”
Bakura took the baby to the bathroom where Malik had made a little changing table for the baby.
Marik passed by and wrinkled his nose. “Damn, Itemri, what did you eat?”
“It's not me, wise-ass. It's the baby.”
“Are you changing the baby?”
Bakura nodded and pulled down the baby boy's pants. “Yeah, why? Do you think I need supervision?”
“Don't you know what happens when you change a boy's diaper, Itemri?”
Bakura shrugged. “It can't be worse than changing a girl's diaper. What could go wrong?”
Marik grinned and raised an eyebrow. He leaned against the doorway. “You're going to eat those words, Itemri.”
Bakura chuckled. “It can't be THAT bad, Ishtar.”
“By all means, Itemri…show me your wisdom on changing a baby boy's diaper. You DO know what happens when you change a baby boy's diaper, don't you?”
Bakura grinned. “Fine! I will show you I can do this!”
Bakura removed the baby boy's diaper with muttered Egyptian curses.
“I'm so lucky to have a boy,” Marik said with a grin. “I don't have to worry about Robbie getting pregnant.”
Bakura cleaned the baby with a wipe. “No more carrots for you, Kai….EVER.”
Bakura put the baby powder on the baby's buttocks.
Marik grinned and raised his eyebrow. “Five…………Four…………Thre e………”
“What are you counting for?”
“Nothing………..Two……..” div>
Bakura grabbed a dry towel. “Okay, Kai, time for a new diaper.”
“One.”
Bakura turned his head. “Ishtar, what are you---?”
Bakura was broken by a stream of warm liquid from below him.
“…………..” Bakura looked on his shirt and found it saturated with warm, sticky liquid. “What the hell….just ….happened?”
Marik leaned against the doorway laughing his ass off. His face turned red from lack of air. “You were peed on, intelligent!”
“Ishtar, this is not funny!”
“I can't tell you…how many times….Aten got me! Itemri, you have to learn to duck when you change a boy's diaper!”
Bakura dropped the now-dirty diaper in his hands. “Go get me a clean diaper, Ishtar!”
Marik walked away laughing, leaving Bakura growling.
“Kai, next time, warn me about that.”
***************************
As the weeks went on, Aria watched the baby live. She was amazed at how alert he was. He was a normal baby.
He giggled in the arms of his father.
He fell asleep against her body, comforted by the sounds of her heartbeat.
When Ryou watched her get on the floor and play with Kai, he smiled. Aria was back to her normal self.
Umi and Aria took Kai for a walk in his stroller and passed the cemetery. Aria stopped short.
“What's wrong, Aria?”
“Umi? Can we go see Kailani?”
Umi held her hand and nodded. “If you want to see her, let's go.”
Aria walked the stroller through the seemingly endless rows of graves. She stopped at the Bakura plot.
She removed Kai from his stroller and cradled him against her body.
“Hello, Kailani. How's my baby girl?”
Only the breeze through the cemetery answered her question.
“Kailani, I brought your new baby brother. His name is Kai. It means `the sea' in Hawaiian.”
Umi put his arms around her waist.
“I wish I'd had been able to save you, my angel. Rest assured that Yami won't get away with this.”
Aria looked at the baby in her arms. His blue eyes were large and he muttered little unintelligible sounds.
Her gaze returned to the grave. “Kailani, I love you. I miss you dearly. It's still not easy to let you go.”
Aria handed Kai over to his father and kneeled before the grave. “Kailani……Goodbye. I will never forget you.”
