Just Like A Crystal

It was the only thing I can look back on and remember just like a crystal, a treasure of the heart…

Tears ran down the soft cheeks of the small boy as he tightly gripped to his scruffy teddy bear that he had had since his arrival to the hellhole he lived in.

Stitches were spread over the bear and although they were stitched the stuffing could be seen but it was the boys, one of the only things that was truly his in this filthy place.

It was his third year being here, he was now 7 and still each night he would cry himself to sleep. His parents had died and having no relatives, he was put into an orphanage to wait being adopted or his 18th birthday, which ever came first. He wasn't an only child but only a month after arriving his two-year-old sister was adopted. He remembered crying as he was separated from her.

"Serenity," He whispered as he wiped his tears off with his teddy, "First mommy and daddy and then they had to take… away... you…"

He grew silent as he fell onto the padded cushion they called a bed and pulled the covers over his shoulders still tightly gripping onto his bear, "Don't worry teddy, when we grow up, we will become wealthy and we will never have to deal with anything like this again…."

"Shut up Katsuya, you don't want Madam LeBlanc to come in or you will truly be sorry," the child on the bed beside him called over to him.

"No teddy, we won't live like this," he said in nothing more then a tiny whisper, "No, we will live like kings."

…That was the last thing I said before my eyes drifted shut. At the time I wasn't sure how I would become wealthy or how I was to live like a king but over the years I spent there I decided that it wouldn't be hard to get what I wanted because I knew if I wanted it enough…it would be mine…

His eyes starred back towards the doors of the orphanage were he had been kept prisoner for the last 14 years of his life. The only escape from it was the part time job he had gotten when he had turned 16. It wasn't a great job, it was just a job as the local burger king but he had had it for two years and with that job he had saved up enough money to pay about a year's rent on the apartment that was now his.

It wasn't a big one or anything. It was a two-bedroom apartment with full hydro and the rent wasn't bad. It was only 750 dollars a month. The place had been already signed to his name and his little possessions and the new furniture that he had and bought were safely inside the locked doors.

"Well," He said still starring towards the door of the hellhole he was now freed from, "This is goodbye."

…That day was the day that made my life fall together. Days after that, I got my phone up, I put an ad for a roommate in the local paper and although having many psychopaths coming, I found a good roommate that quickly became a good friend of mine, probably my best friend…

"Honda, you are going to have to start to look for a new roommate soon," Katsuya said before taking a sip of his coke, "because soon enough I will be rich, I will be living in a mansion with 20 servants."

"Oh really," He said in his usual sarcastic tone, "and how do you plan on doing that working in fast food?"

"I don't know… maybe I will just marry rich and heir an assassin to kill them."

"Do something creative man, write a book or even better become a prostitute and rob the people you sleep with blind, they won't have the guts to say they hired a prostitute," He said breaking out laughing.

Honda laughed but the blond didn't, he would show him, he would show everyone that didn't believe him.

"Jou… I wasn't making fun of you, I was just trying to lighten the mood, get you out of your serious state… and you want to know what?" He said pulling the other closer before putting him in a head lock and ruffling his hair, "You better be taking me in when your plan goes through."

…After we stopped laughing, we retreated to their rooms but that I didn't go to sleep. Again I sat up in my bed with my teddy in hand and telling it my new plan, my new plan on achieving my old one. Not long after that night I remember looking for larger apartments and soon found the perfect one 4 bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a Jacuzzi in one of the bathrooms…

It was his 19th birthday and he sat at the counter of the private gym he worked now in. He was the check-in secretary were the members would hand him their cards and he would scan them and check the picture from the network to the persons in front of him. Besides that, his only other duty was to record the entries of the members every Friday and to prepare the cards for the new members.

His eyes jolted up from the book in hand to one of the members, "Ah, Mr. Kaiba, it's good to see you again, " He said as he took the presented card from the man.

"And how are you Katsuya?" He spoke softly waiting for the other to crack his routine joke.

"Oh, this can't be you, this man is so scrawny, have you gotten buffer?"

He smirked silently before replying with a corny answer to the corny joke, "Tell me Katsuya, do you check out all the other guys bodies?"

The blond blinked slowly before smiling softly at the man and shrugged, "I don't know… maybe you're just special."

The older man retrieved his card from the other and smiled towards him as he walked off towards the change room.

He didn't really pay attention to anyone's bodies, he just knew what the rich people wanted to here when they came to the gym, it was either, `have you lost weight?', `you're getting more buff.' or `I see you are keeping up that amazing body of yours.' or in some rare occasions, `I don't know if I can let you in, you look like a totally different person.' but that wasn't always true; it was mostly him trying to bag him a rich one. Who wouldn't be rich if they came here?

…I remember arriving home that night. I was overjoyed, it was the first time in my life that I had a party in my behalf. Honda, being the great friend he was, invited all my friends from work and my friends that he knew about and even some of the people that I hadn't seen in years. Mainly one, my sister…

He sat at the desk with a smile plastered over his face the next day; he couldn't help but smile after seeing his sister again after 16 years. How Honda was able to track her was out of his mind, maybe she had been looking for her older brother and had gotten in touch with his roommate, who knows.

"What are you grinning about, we haven't even said good morning yet," The familiar voice of Kaiba came over the counter.

"Oh hello Mr. Kaiba, aren't you here a little early today?"

"Yes but there was really no point on me going in today, who are they going to rat me out to? Myself?" He said with a small smile on his face, "So Jounouchi did you get lucky last night or something?"

He shook his head, "No, not that," He said with the grin still spread over his face, "Yesterday was my birthday and my friend, Honda, through me a surprise party and well, my sister, who I haven't seen in 16 years, was there."

"Oh…" He said quietly as he starred over the counter at the younger man, "16 years eh? You must be older then I thought."

"Me? Old?" He shook his head softly as he giggled a little, "No, I am still young, only 20-years-young."

"So it was your birthday yesterday and you didn't tell me when I saw you? Hmm… how about I take you out to dinner tonight for a late birthday present?" The older man asked with a smile on his face.

"I would be pleased if you did that Mr. Kaiba," He said the smile growing on his face.

"So, I'll pick you up around 9ish?"

…That was how it all started. That was how my plan went into action and although I was never one to complain, I had more coming then I would ever have expected. I had everything I ever needed coming. I was so close but yet, so far from that crystal, the treasure of a heart.
