Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Kaiba Brothers ❯ Friends Though Pain ( Chapter 6 )

Noa stood on the roof, his shadowy tears falling down his face in streams. Seto's words rung in his ears, forcing his tears to continue.

'Go join Gozaburo if you're so jealous, Noa. He doesn't want you anyway.'

Noa was silent, watching the movements of Domino below him. The strong wind whistled around and through him, having no affect on his ghostly form. He wished it were otherwise, but knew that was impossible now.

There was a sound behind the ghost, but he didn't look back. He knew who had just stepped on to the roof. Even through his pain, Noa could sense the presense of his friend. He knew so much about the boy, things not even Gozaburo had known. He even knew a few things Mokuba didn't know.

The living boy sat next to him and followed his gaze to the distant Kaiba Corp. building. From their position, they could pick out the window Gozaburo had fallen from. "Noa..." He whispered after a moment of silence. Although Noa did nothing to show he'd heard, the boy next to him seemed to know he had. "Gomen. I-I spoke before I thought about it." He mumbled.

Noa finally looked down at Seto. The brunette's eyes were red from crying and the tear tracks stood out against his pale face. He wasn't wearing his shirt, showing the fresh cuts on his chest, stomach, and arms, as well as the old scars beneath them. The wind whipped his hair around his face and into his eyes, but he ignored it. He was hunched over slightly, his eyes still on the building in the city. The way he held himself cast an air of defeat about him, giving Noa the impression of a dying man in the field of battle, begging his enemy's forgiveness and mercy.

Noa shook his head, his tears coming quicker, now that he saw how much his words had truely cut at his friend. "You were angry, Seto." He pointed out. "I, too, am to blame." Noa's voice was sad and painful, just the way he felt.

Seto sighed. "That still didn't give me the right to say that."

Noa sat next to Seto and placed a ghostly arm around his shoulders. Seto leaned against him with a sigh. Noa paused for a moment, surprised, before pulling Seto closer and hugging him gently. Seto sighed and closed his eyes. Noa let one of his hands, the one in fron of Seto, wander over Seto's chest lightly. He had long ago memorized every inch of Seto's chest, from seeing him without a shirt on so often. ~No wonder otosan fell in love with him...~ Noa thought to himself. Even with the marks, Seto was beautiful to Noa.

Yami cleared his throat behind them, causing both boys to jump slightly. "We've been looking for you two." Yami said calmly, intentionally giving them time to compose themselves again as he spoke. "Are you two going to sit up here all day?"

/It's an idea...\ Seto thought to Noa, fully ready to continue resting against the ghost.

Noa chuckled slightly and stood. Then he reached down to help Seto to his feet. He glanced out at the street and lawn in front of the mansion and frowned. There was someone walking up to the mansion, and he had an expensive car waiting for him at the gates, since Seto prefered not having cars on his property. "Seto..." Noa mumbled softly, still watching the lone figure on the walkway.

Seto looked out at the person, then sighed darkly. "It's one of my assistants. I knew something would happen when I missed work two days in a row..." He hurried past Yami and down the ladder to the roof.

Noa and Yami hurried after him. "Put on a shirt!" Noa called as he saw Seto run past his room. Seto backtracked and hurried into his room. Noa was right, Seto couldn't open the door without a shirt on, whether he was taking the day off or not.

Seto pulled on a soft, long-sleeved blue shirt and hurried from his room. He menaged to get to the foyer just before the assistant knocked. Noa, Yami, Yuugi, and Mokuba stood at the entrance to the rest of the house, watching as the CEO pulled open the door. "What is it you want, Sekio?" Seto asked darkly.

Sekio, a dark-haired man that was almost thrice Seto's age, wasn't even slightly fazed by his boss's dark mood. He was one of the few in the office who didn't fear Seto's wrath. Of course, like all of his fellow workers, Sekio respected his boss, despite Seto's age and looks. The boy had long ago proved that he could run Kaiba Corp. without any sort of problem. "Appearantly, you've forgotten that you have a serious meeting today..." He started. He was one of the few that would ever dare to speak to Seto that way, for various different reasons.

"He's not going." Noa said before Seto could speak, coming to stand next to Seto. He glared at the man. Noa was, amazingly, solid. One could no longer see things through him.

"And who are you?" Sekio asked sharply. Something was stirred deep within his battered memory. He had known Seto since the boy and his brother had joined the Kaiba household. He'd known Gozaburo for almost twenty years before that. This boy reminded him of someone, but he couldn 't quite put his finger on who.

"That's none of your concern." Noa replied coldly, acting a little too much like Seto for Sekio to handle. Seto might be able to speak to Sekio like that, but there was no way the man would allow another to. He opened his mouth to give the boy a sharp repremand when Seto spoke.

"Noa, please..." Seto started with a sigh.

"Noa?" Sekio's eyes seemed to pop as old memories came back. He harsh words from before died on his tounge. "I knew I recognized you!" He frowned suddenly, realizing something. "Aren't you supposed to be dead, Kaiba-kun?" He'd know Kaiba Noa, Gozaburo's son, anywhere.

Seto narrowed his eyes and placed a protective arm around Noa's shoulders. He didn't like how quickly Sekio had recognized the ghost. It was unnerving. "I'll be an the office in half an hour." Seto told Sekio coldly.

"Seto!" Noa looked up darkly. He didn't really trust Seto by himself after the argument earlier.

Seto shook his head. "I need to finish this deal, Noa. This is important."

Noa pulled a pout on the brunette holding him, hoping it would faze Seto just enough to agree with him. It wasn't working, Noa could tell by the look on Seto's face. "You work too hard, Seto-chan." He complained, not caring that he'd just showed his affection for the taller boy in front of Sekio and the three behind them. Mokuba made a sound of agreement from where he still stood next to Yuugi and Yami, who both nodded.

"I'm going." Seto's tone was final.

"Very good, Kaiba-sama." Sekio nodded. "We will be expecting you in half an hour." Then he turned on his heels and left.

Noa glared up at Seto. "Then I'm coming too." He informed them as Seto pulled him back to close the door.

"Absolutely not." Seto returned. The three behind them watched with amused expressions, ready to jump between the two if it started getting ugly.

"Why not?" Noa growled, pulling away from Seto's embrace to face him.

"I don't want another person at Kaiba Corp. recognizing you and staring a rumor or something!" Seto cried.

"Who said they had to see me?" Noa returned, his eyes narrowed at his friend.

"Noa..." Seto sighed sadly. His eyes were filled with pain, as was the link they shared.

Noa's eyes softened. "When otosan used to take me with him to work, I'd start getting on his nerves in his office. The only person he trusted enough to watch me was Isteru Sekio. Of course Sekio would know me, he used to play with me when otosan kicked me out of his office."

Seto sighed and looked at Mokuba. "Ototo-chan, will you be fine here?"

"How about Moku-kun comes with us?" Yami cut in.

Seto looked at Mokuba, who nodded happily, then he glanced up at Yami and met the pharaoh's crimson eyes. "If any harm comes to him..." He started in a very serious warning tone.

"Kaiba." Yami cut him off and Seto closed his mouth to hear him out. "Trust me. I know how much you love your brother. I will let no harm come to Moku-kun if it is within my power to prevent it. If it's not within my power, I will make it within my power. Moku-kun is my friend, and I wouldn't want to see him hurt." Yami sighed. "And I feel the same about you."

Seto's eyes widened, shock crossing his face quickly before he covered it. ~I'll just have to learn to trust him and Yuugi. I don't have any choice now...~ Seto looked at Mokuba as he and Yuugi hurried upstairs to get a few things from Mokuba's room. "I don't need any protection, Yami, but thanks for the offer." Then he hurried past the pharaoh to go change.

Yami looked at Noa with a sigh. "You'll keep an eye on him?" Yami asked softly.

Noa nodded. "Definately. He's my friend, and my brother, like Moku-chan. I don't want anything happening to either of them."

Yami smiled. "For a ghost, you sure have a lot of friends." He said lightly.

Noa chuckled. "One could say the same for you, Pharaoh."

Yami sighed, his smile dying away. "We are friends, then?" He asked.

Noa, surprised, blinked a couple times before responding. "Of course."

Yami nodded. "Good. I like you, and, between the three of us, we might actually get somewhere with those two, not to mention each other."

Noa smiled. "I wouldn't have it any other way."
