A/N: Well people, what pairing, if I do one, should my fic be? Keep in mind that I'm just remaining neutral right now.
It was nearing twelve o' clock the next time Anzu woke. She briefly wondered how far they'd gotten, after all, the bus driver had been going at least ten miles over the speed limit, regardless of what he was telling them. Sighing, Anzu was about to sit up and brush her hair, but gasped when she saw the sign that said: Welcome to Sunset City. After a moment, Anzu finished brushing her hair and got ready to go. Gripping her jacket tighter to her body, she walked out into the city.
The wind was howling, but there was no rain, only puddles of water on the ground. It was still pretty dark out due to the clouds. So Anzu strode out into the city streets, looking for a place to stay. There were many hotels all over the place, and she had trouble finding a decent one. But soon enough, she found one on the outskirts of town. Anzu managed to get a room for half price, and would be there for three nights. Once getting her belongings situated, she pondered what to do next. Finally, she decided to do a bit of exploring.
Umbrella in hand, she walked among the buildings, it wasn't as industrial as Domino City, but this place was in the mountains so what could you expect? They probably lived off of tourists. She saw a bunch of old places, various shapes and sizes. But her eyes caught a glance at a peculiar shop hidden in the shadows.
The shop was a bit small, and it had all sorts of Egyptian paintings on the outside walls. The windows were shaded over by dark red curtains, and there was a small wooden sign that said: Open, on the door. Anzu went over to it and opened the door slowly, almost as if something would jump out at her. Inside, there was dim light, just enough to see. All sorts of things were inside. Egyptian dresses were on sale, along with jewelry.
"Hello, may I help you?" Anzu jumped when she heard someone speak to her.
Turning around, Anzu saw an Egyptian lady, cloaked, looking at her through her hood.
"Ah, no. I'm just looking." Anzu smiled, her back still partially turned.
When Anzu turned fully around to look at another rack, she heard the lady gasp softly.
"Young lady, would you mind telling me where you got that necklace?" She asked urgently.
"Uh, someone close to me gave it to me. Why?" Anzu asked, a bit taken aback.
The lady just stared at her for a moment. Anzu began to feel uncomfortable under the lady's probing stare. Satisfied for the moment, the lady spoke up again.
"I see. Be careful in the future. It's dangerous for those with the Millennium Items to wander these nights." The lady forewarned in a dark tone.
"What do you mean?" Anzu asked, coming closer.
"Something is amiss, it is no coincidence that you are in this city. But I am confused, I have never heard of the Millennium item that is now around your neck. But it is one of the items none the less. Tell me, what is it's power? Does it have a spirit?" The lady asked further.
"I, well, I don't exactly know. It seems to be able to heal injuries, I'm not sure what else." Anzu said uncomfortably.
"I can see that you are uncomfortable. But keep in mind that you must learn to control your powers, or they will cause great harm. The same goes for all the others." The lady said.
Anzu blinked. What the hell was this lady talking about? Powers? Her? Others? Did she mean Yugi and the rest of the item holders? All she could do was heal people, and that was because of her necklace. But a voice in the back of her mind screamed it wasn't true.
The lady seemed to gaze out the glass door. It was raining, and it was a lot darker than earlier. The wind howled loudly. Anzu blinked, glancing at the clock, she realized just how long she had been in here. Five hours!? How in the world?
"Perhaps you should go." The lady said mysteriously, albeit abruptly.
"Yeah." Anzu was seriously freaked right now.
As Anzu bolted from the shop, she didn't see the smile on the lady's face, or the fact that if she had turned around that instant, she would have seen a broken down building where the shop once was.
Anzu ran almost blindly through the streets. She had to get back to her room before the rain turned to snow. But as she ran, she caught a glimpse of cloaked men bolting in her direction. They seemed extremely dangerous. But before she had a chance to think, the lead one slammed into her. She heard him curse in a different language, and continues running at his almost inhuman pace. Anzu winced as she picked herself up off the ground and out of the puddle she had fallen in. Her body racked with shivers as snow started to fall. Her hand brushed against something smooth. Looking down, Anzu nearly had a heart attack. The Millennium Rod rested at her side. A foreboding feeling settled itself in the pit of her stomach. There was something not right about those men. Without thinking, Anzu picked the rod up and continued running, it was so cold. If she didn't get back soon she would most likely suffer from some form of hypothermia.
As she ran, her legs stiffening from the cold, she was sure her lips were turning purple. She turned down the alleyway she needed to go down to get on the road to her hotel. But she was so focused on getting back that she didn't notice a rather large lump on the ground. Tripping on it, she slammed into the cold ground once again. Getting to her hands and knees and shuddering, Anzu turned to look at what she had tripped on. She gasped in shock, obviously it was a body. And by the looks of it, it had been out in the freezing cold for quite some time. Not to mention there was blood all over it. On pure instinct, Anzu moved the body over to see if the person was still alive. But when she did her eyes widened in shock.
"Malik!"
