Anzu sat out in the royal garden, idly staring at the petals of a lotus tree as they floated to the ground. Lying back on the stone bench, she sighed loudly.
`I can't get him out of my head.'
It had been four days since the princess had ventured out into the city. Two days since she met with the smoldering crimson gaze of Yami. The one who had saved her at the town party.
`Those eyes... It's like they're permanently burned into my memory.'
Anzu placed a hand over her forehead to shield her face from the blazing desert sun. Ever since that fateful night, Yami would not leave her thoughts. Everything reminded her of the wild-haired peasant. She didn't know why, but everything just did.
`I've met many peasants before on my journeys out into the village. I've always forgotten their faces, though. But Yami's...I can still remember the way he smells. The exact style and colors of his hair. Those alluring scarlet orbs. Just everything.'
The brunette sat back up and crossed her arms. It was so wrong of her to be thinking that way. If anyone found out...if anyone told the Pharaoh...she would surely be shunned. It would bring shame to the Royal family if they knew a poor peasant boy plagued their daughter's thoughts.
But she couldn't help it. He was in her mind and wouldn't get out.
`Maybe I should go see him again? Just one time...Then I'll rid him from my thoughts for good! Tonight is my tutoring. Maybe I'll go tomorrow evening...' She paused in her thoughts and ran a hand through her chestnut colored hair. `How will I find him? What if he isn't there? Oh, I want so badly to see him again....'
"Anzu? Is that you?"
The princess sat up, meeting the icy cobalt eyes of her cousin, Seto. Seto was the son of the Pharaoh's younger brother, Akunadin. He was the high-priest-in-training; making him a very important person in the Egyptian status.
Though sometimes he was a little arrogant and cold, Anzu loved her cousin dearly. She was really the only one he ever opened up to. Besides the young priestess Isis, that is.
The tall brown haired teenager strutted over to her, sitting on the stone bench and making himself comfortable. "What are you doing out here by yourself at such an early hour?" he asked.
Anzu shrugged her shoulders and inhaled the flowery scent of the palace garden. "Thinking," she replied after a few moments.
"What of?" Seto asked, raising an eyebrow in interest.
The younger stood up and brushed off the white material of her dress. "That is none of your business."
The young priest chuckled. "Oh come now, Anzu. I tell you my private secrets. Why not let me in on yours?"
The princess' cheeks tinged pink. "It's not really...a secret...well, it is sort of...I guess...I-It's just something I want to...well...forget."
"Ah, I see." Seto scratched his chin thoughtfully. "Well what is it you wish to forget? An event? A place? A person?"
"Um...a person," she answered truthfully. "A wonderful boy that I can't get out of my head."
The brown haired male smirked. "Try as you might, you'll never get me out of your head," he joked.
Anzu pouted and slapped him lightly on the shoulder. She then started laughing. Sometimes, when he wanted to, Seto could be a big joker. Though most people would never believe that due to the how serious he was most of the time. There were only two people in all Egypt that he ever kidded around with: Anzu and his younger brother, Mokuba.
The brown haired girl giggled. Seto glanced at her and smiled. "So who is it really?" he questioned, mildly curious now. Whoever had captured his younger cousin's interest must really have been special. Never before had Anzu been so fixated on a person. And, judging by the dreamy look in her bright blue eyes, she was quite entranced by this person...and had been for a while now.
The princess blushed. "That's my secret."
"Ah, we're back to secrets again are we?" After receiving a nod, Seto stood up and sighed. "Alright then, I will leave you to your secrets. I just came by to see if you were out here, after all. Your mother was worried since you weren't in your chambers at this hour in the morning."
Anzu nodded. "I'll go see her then. Is she in the temple still?"
"She should be. She always prays at this time."
The brunette grinned. "Thank you, Seto." And, with that said, Anzu left the garden in search of her mother. Yami still occupied her thoughts, but a smile was now plastered on her face.

"Eh, Yami...? You okay, man?"
Katsuya Jounouchi stared wearily at his best friend who was perched atop a rock near the bank of the Nile River. The ruby eyed teen had a contemplative look on his face as he twirled a flower between his thumb and index finger.
The blonde Egyptian sauntered over and sat next to Yami on the rock. He lifted an eyebrow as he surveyed the other. "Yami...you've been looking at that flower for the past hour. I doubt it's that exciting."
Yami laughed and threw the blossom on the floor. "Sorry, Jou," he whispered. "I'm a little out of it today."
"Today?!" the taller repeated, laughing out loud. "You've been out of it for the past week almost! What's gotten into you? You're usually so levelheaded...now you're all spaced out and jumpy. And you keep looking around you. Are you searching for someone?"
The tri-haired teen nodded, picking up the flower again. "She said I would see her again, so I'm just keeping an eye out for her. I...I don't even know if she lives in this village, though."
Jounouchi held his hands up to stop his friend. "Whoa, whoa, whoa! Hold it right there!" He smirked at the confused stare sent his way. "Who isshe?"
"Teana..."
The blonde was very intrigued now. He frowned slightly and placed a hand to his chin. "Teana, huh? I don't think I've ever heard of her before."
Yami brought his knees up to his chin and wrapped his arms around them. "You saw her at the festival the other night. The one those drunken men were abusing."
"That's Teana?!" Jou let out a low whistle. "I can see why you can't stop thinking about her now. She was a cute one."
"Cute?" The shorter shook his head. "Jounouchi, she was more than just cute. She was gorgeous."
"Who was gorgeous?"
The two best friends turned to see Shizuka, Jounouchi's younger sister, and Honda Hiroto. The petite red haired girl rushed over and enveloped her sibling in a hug. She then turned shyly to Yami, a blush spreading across her cheeks as she greeted him.
Honda growled at this and Jounouchi smirked. They knew of the big crush Shizuka had on the tri-haired teen. Even though Yami himself was oblivious, the younger girl's face would always heat up and she'd become very flustered whenever she was around him.
"I-I haven't talked to you since the festival..."
Yami shrugged, standing from the rock and stretching his arms above his head. "I've been working in the field a lot with my grandfather. Since the Nile has recently flooded, there are many seeds to plant and crops to pick."
Shizuka nodded and smiled faintly. She knew nothing about working outdoors. Men usually did the outside work. She always worked with her mother inside; cleaning and cooking and taking care of the animals.
"I...I hope you will honor me with another dance next time," she said anxiously.
The spiky haired boy just shrugged his shoulders. Honda jabbed him in the chest. "So...who was so gorgeous?" he prompted, grinning from ear to ear.
Yami scratched the back of his neck embarrassedly. "I-I...um...nobody. It was nobody," he replied quickly. He didn't feel like telling anyone besides Jounouchi about Teana.
The brunette rolled his eyes and snorted. "Fine. But you'll tell me about her one day."
Jounouchi and Honda started laughing and poking fun at their shorter friend. Teasing him of having a secret love affair.
Shizuka frowned. They made it sound as though Yami was really in love with someone. And he probably was, judging by the flushed appearance of him as the Honda spoke of this `mystery woman.' Yami was a teenage boy with teenage boy hormones. He probably would just fall in love with any pretty girl. Jounouchi did all the time.
Hazel eyes brimmed with unshed tears. But that just wasn't fair. Especially not to her. She had had a huge crush on Yami ever since they met nine years ago. That was a very long time; especially since she was only fourteen now. But Yami just didn't seem to notice her. Didn't seem to acknowledge her feelings at all.
"So when will we get to meet her?" Honda questioned for about the fifth time.
The tri-haired teen shook his head, giving up on dropping the subject. "I...I don't know. I haven't seen her since the festival, you guys. I don't think she lives in the village. And she probably won't ever come back. I really want her to, though. I want to see her again..."
Hearing those words made Shizuka's heart break. She turned away from the group of boys. "I-I'm going to go help mother inside, Jounouchi. B-bye everyone."
The three watched her leave. Yami grimaced slightly. "You don't think we hurt her feelings by leaving her out, do you?" The blonde and brunette glanced at each other knowingly. They then burst out laughing. "W-what's so funny?"
"N-nothing," Jounouchi replied, sniggering still.
The shorter rolled his eyes. "I'm going for a walk," he declared, striding away from the other two.

Anzu stared up at Yami as he spoke. She couldn't help but marvel at the brightness of his ruby eyes and the dark color of his skin. He was just so amazing. And he was speaking to her!
Yami took her hand and kissed it softly. "...I'm Yami. What is your name?"
"T-Teana. You may call me Tea, though, for short."
"Teana. That is a lovely name," Yami whispered, smiling.
Anzu sat up in bed, frowning. She had been dreaming about that night for the past few days. Each time she'd wake up, she'd hate herself for leaving the handsome teen so soon.
`We could have talked...maybe become friends even...'
Azure orbs narrowed and the princess snorted. Throwing the blankets off of herself, she made her way to the balcony and opened the white curtains to let the morning rays in. She then returned to her bed.
`Get your head out of the clouds, Anzu! You're the princess! Why would you want to be friends with a peasant?!' she chided. Blushing, Anzu found a quick answer to that. `Because he's attractive. And because he's sweet. And he saved me from those awful men...'
She shook her head. `No....No! You're the princess, he's a poor commoner! Princess and common don't go together!'
Anzu stood up and removed the nightgown she was wearing. After changing into her usual daytime garb, she placed the thin crown on her forehead as well as her customary jewelry.
`Now, go eat some good breakfast and forget about you-know-who.' The princess whined slightly. `But I wanted to go see him tonight. And he wanted to see me too.'
`"Will I see you again?"'
`I told him he would be able to see me again. I can't go back on my word. Plus...he seemed really excited when I told him that. I can't stand making people upset. And if I never go to see him, I know he will be upset. And I know I'll be upset too.'
After reasoning with herself, she decided once and for all that she would go and look for him tonight. Even though she knew it was wrong, she couldn't ignore the tug in her heart. The tug that told her she would regret never seeing him again. So, like always, she followed her heart.
Whether or not that was a good thing was up to fate to decide now....
