Chapter Ten: Futari no Negai

So the tomb robber has wised up after all… Malik smirked, but was instantly replaced by a scowl. He looked down at the unconscious Ryou with an annoyed look in his eyes. The kid was so small and innocent looking and after the short time with Bakura, Malik had been left still hard and equally annoyed. He had to restrain himself from just lashing out on fragile Ryou and taking him there and then. It was driving him insane every time that brat's hand brushed at his butt. (Author: *sweatdrop, blush*)

Eye nearly beginning to twitch in his silent "suffering," Malik went on his way. He knew that he couldn't just use the spell to wake the kid up now. He'd be kicking and screaming all the way there and he may even try to contact Bakura. No. He would have to wait until he got back to revive him and have Marik keep an eye on his mental actions. He would have to block off the connection through the sennen ring completely before he revived Ryou.

The trip was excruciatingly painful. Every now and then Ryou's hand or legs would innocently sweep by Malik's burning…parts… Angry relief flooded through him when he saw the old building come into sight. Not long ago, he, or rather, he had forced Marik and his sister, to find a place where he could study the carvings in the museum and stay hidden. Who would have guessed there was an unknown room behind Isis' "private" collection where hid the pharaoh and his high priest's stone carving.

Letting himself in through the secret entrance, Malik narrowed his eyes at once when he saw Marik standing a few feet in front of him with a defiant look on his face. Completely ignoring him when he opened his mouth to speak, Malik dropped Ryou into his arms. "Take care of the brat. I'm going to revive him later and if I find out he's been contacting the tomb robber, you won't be a very happy person."

Marik glared at him still defiantly, but said nothing. He was just glad that his other spirit had not done anything to Bakura after all. His sharp purple eyes followed the other until he was out of sight before looking down to study the figure lying limply in his arms. He blushed slightly when he saw that adorable but pale face, and picked up him in his arms.

"What the hell happened to you?" he sighed softly, shaking his head. He wasn't sure what this kid could have possibly done to make his yami feel that he was a threat and bring him here. He looked so frail and small… Shaking his head, Marik set the boy down on a hard been and picked up a damp cloth. Oh well. It's none of my business. I have other things to be worried about.

Bakura stared forlornly at the window. What was he to do now? He didn't know where Malik could have gone and Ryou's half of the ring's link had been cut off almost painfully. He didn't know where to even begin to look. This was all his own fault anyway…

Standing up took a great effort and he ignored the shooting pains that ran up and down his entire body. He glanced at the carpet where he sat. There were a few drops of red, but otherwise, entirely clean. He laughed bitterly to himself. "If that girly Ryou were here, he'd be cleaning up those little drips up with a big bar of soap…"

His bitter laughter soon died away and he shamefully found another few tears sliding from his face. Dammit! I mustn't cry! It's weak! I can't let Ryou know I'm weak… Hastily wiping his tears away, Bakura could hear a little voice nagging in his head, saying with glee, "But Ryou isn't here, now is he?"

"…shut up…" Bakura mumbled as he stumbled into the kitchen, dropping the bloody knife on the sink, running it with cool water. Wincing as he bent over, Bakura reached under the sink to retrieve a first aid kit where Ryou always left it. He didn't think he needed to be bandaged up at all. He was immortal after all, he thought dully to himself. What's a little loss of blood here and there?

He ended up wrapping up his wounds anyway. No doubt that if an openly bleeding person running around on the streets would certainly be dragged to a hospital of some sort, and how was he supposed to explain that he was already dead to modern doctors? Cursing to himself in rapid Egyptian under his breath, Bakura used his teeth to help wrap his arm and hand. Even though the wounds were nothing, it didn't mean they still didn't hurt…

Finishing up his work, Bakura hopped off the table and began to head out. Slowly he stopped before he stepped out the door and looked back at the box that he had left askew on the table. A guilty conscience shot through him and gritting his teeth mentally, Bakura put everything back into the box and under the sink. Grabbing a damp rag and soap, he headed grudgingly out to where the bloodstained carpet was. "Damn. Ryou's beginning to rub off on me…"

"Yosh. Owari…" Marik said tiredly to himself. He had spent the last hour or so patching the pale boy up. He sighed. It had been a long time since he had separated from his yami. His other spirit was purely a parasite and Marik was glad when they where separated…except he realized that now Malik could do whatever he pleased and he would have no way to stop him at all.

Warily, he glanced at the headband-like object that Malik had left with him. The mind seal… He really didn't want to use it on the boy, but he didn't really have a choice left. Malik had his sister and Lihito at his hand. Sighing, he reluctantly reached out and picked up the headband. With his other free hand, he lifted the snowy haired boy's head slightly and slipped it onto his forehead. He blinked slightly when the sennen eye brightened for a moment.

Unhappily, he set the small boy back down on the hard bed and wondered what his name was. He looked very much like his yami's fascination, the tomb robber, but he had only been able to catch a few glimpses of him. Marik rest his head in his hands and propped his elbows up on his knees. He didn't like this dark place. Ever since his first taste of sunlight and fresh air, he had hated the dark place where his father kept him. (Author: *sweatdrop* oops…a few more spoilers here ><! Gomen nasai!) But…his first taste of sunlight had also been the beginning of his horrible hatred and of course, his other spirit.

It was because of Malik his life was ruined. Damn him. He hurt his sister and his only friend and killed his father. Marik hated Malik. He hated that the spirit had ruined his life. Deprived him of happiness and a life without bitterness. Now all he wanted was to get rid of him. But for now…he was still a child…and children were afraid. He was afraid for now…

"I'm reviving him now. Keep a sharp eye on him. Or else."

Marik glared at the wall but did not object. He would play this game for a while. Maybe the tomb robber could help him. Maybe he could help him be free… He sighed hopelessly. Yeah right… Looking up, he saw the boy's hand twitch. Marik blinked. This could be interesting. He hadn't had company down here for a while. He quietly observed the boy.

Ryou winced from his internal pain and whimpered slightly. His body ached and hurt all over. Opening a foggy eye, he looked around then jumped up. This wasn't his apartment! Instead of his comfy, homey surroundings, his warm apartment was replaced with dark, murky surroundings and a cold temperature. He looked around for any sign of Bakura in panic. Hearing someone shifting beside him, he called out hopefully, quickly turning towards the sound, "K-Karakage-sama?"

His heart sank when his eyes met a boy his own age with bright purple eyes looking at him with his head on his knees. He looked familiar for some odd reason… "Who…Who are you?"

"Yo," Marik said, still looking at the boy. The boy had a rather high voice and it sounded a bit scratchy, most likely because he had just woken up from…well, he didn't want to know judging from where there was blood coming from. "I'm Marik Ishtar. Seems like we're both prisoners here."

"Ma…Marik?" Ryou stuttered. What a minute…! Panicking, Ryou jumped up and backed away from the other boy. "D-don't try to fool me! You're that horrible man trying to hurt Karakage-sama!"

Marik blinked. Horrible man…? Last time he checked, he hadn't been out of this building for over two months. "I think you're mistaken," he began gently, standing up and taking a hesitant step towards the frightened boy. "Look, I wouldn't hurt an innocent kid. I haven't been out of this building for two months. You must be talking about Malik."

Whimpering quickly ceasing, Ryou loosened his clutch on the sheet he held and looked into the other boy's bright eyes. "Y-you know Malik? Why do you look just like him?"

Sighing, Marik sat next to him. "Probably the same reason you look like the tomb robber…but Malik just came from sort of a different way. Look, I'm not asking you to trust me or anything, but I want to make our existence together at least pleasant because I haven't had any company for a long time and the last thing I want is another enemy."

Looking at him curiously, Ryou slowly put the sheet down. There was something about that sad face that made him know that the boy was definitely telling the truth. He looked so sad… Ryou winced slightly when a pain shot up his arm and his legs stung. He slowly looked to his arm, expecting to see them bloody or damaged in some way or another. Much to his surprise, his arm was neatly wrapped in clean linens. "Did you do this for me?"

Blinking again, Marik looked up and smiled slightly. "Yes. You were bleeding everywhere. From your mouth to your legs-" He shut his mouth quickly and blushed. He didn't want the boy to think that he was some kind of pervert who enjoyed looking at other boy's…ugh…

Ryou blushed visibly. He knew it. He had been bleeding there. He always bled there after Karakage-sama… He fidgeted nervously for a moment. He wasn't sure what to say. He felt so embarrassed, yet he wanted to say something to the other boy. He remembered that the first thing Marik had said to him was that they were both "prisoners" here. Then it seemed that he was in the same boat Ryou was…

"Hey, you never told me your name…"

"Uhm… I'm Ryou. Bakura Ryou…"

Scowling, Bakura finally set off from Ryou's apartment. He couldn't believe how much precious time he had wasted up there. Why the hell did he bother to clean up anyway? He never did. Ever. He grumbled to himself. He knew that he did it just to be able to see Ryou's smile when he got back. Yes. He was sure that he would bring Ryou back.

Bakura scoffed and stomped off in a random direction, not sure where to head. He had a backpack slung over his shoulder, and a fresh change of clothes. As urgent as he was, he still had to be careful. He had to change from his tattered clothes and things just to be sure he wouldn't draw too much attention from people. Sighing, he stopped walking, or almost running, in some random direction and he thought he could try the link one more time.

Closing his eyes, he leaned back against a wall and concentrated with all his energy. Ryou? Answer me… His forehead creased and a look of frustration crossed his face before he began flat out cursing, eyes snapped open. Instead of the usual connect he would feel with Ryou, he had a painful retaliation and was a mental shock to him. It was just as annoying as it was painful. "Dammit…still not working…"

There was nothing he could do now. He could feel his hope being drained from him. A sense of fear and panic swept over him again and his heart pounded in frustration. His head swarm with aching pains. Cursing a bit too loudly, Bakura looked down at his hand and slowly opened and closed his fists. His fingers were growing slightly paler. Damn…at this rate, this body will be gone in less than a week. Where are you, stupid Ryou? Angrily ignoring the people that were whispering about him, he took off running down the street. So much for a low cover…

Eventually, Bakura's run slowed to a jog then slowly to a walk. He wasn't sure where he was going, but it seemed that his feet had an idea that his brain hadn't intercepted yet. It must have still been burned from his attempt to use the link. Bakura scowled at his feet and watched them move down the busy sidewalk with several other passing people that eventually melted into a sidewalk where he walked alone in the middle of the night.

When his feet finally, stopped, Bakura looked up. When he finally realized where he was, his jaw nearly dropped open. With much effort, he dragged one foot away from the destination. "Oh, no. No way. Absolutely not!" he muttered. "There's no way in hell that I'd risk my reputation and ego and ask the ph-" Before he could get another word out, the door opened and he was greeted with a sickeningly pleasant voice.

"Ah, Bakura-kun! Wait just a moment while I go get Yuugi."

It was sickening. His feet had unfaithfully led him to Kame Game Shop.

"…dammit…"

"Well, then, Bakura-kun…" Marik began, looking towards the other boy.

"Um…if you don't mind, would you please call me Ryou?" Ryou laughed nervously, his cheeks tinting slightly pink. Whenever someone said "Bakura" it reminded him of Karakage-sama… Smiling as best he could, he added, "It took me a long time to get my friends to call me by that, so I guess…maybe…"

"Does this mean you consider me one of your friends already…Ryou?" Marik asked with a bit of amusement in his voice. Ryou was so innocent and trusting and he couldn't deny that he certainly was cute… He began to blush slightly as well. I never thought being in the company of people again could feel so wonderful…

Ryou crossed his ankles and sat on the edge of the hard bed next to Marik. As much as he liked to get to know Mark better, he wanted to go home first and see Karakage-sama. He was so worried about him. He was sure that Karakage-sama would explode if he found out that he had been taken. But…that made him a bit happy… "I'm sorry, Marik-san, but…"

"You don't need to put -san at the end," Marik interrupted. "It makes my name sound weird."

"Eh…to…" Ryou blinked and smiled. "Mm… Marik, I'm sorry to ask if it bothers you, but…" He looked up, unable to control the tears that welled up in his eyes. "Where are we? When can I go home and see Karakage-sama? When can I go and see my friends?"

Marik shifted uncomfortably. He didn't know how to answer the boy. He knew that the other boy would certainly be sad if he said something like, "I'm not sure" or something that wasn't reassuring and frankly, he did not want to see the boy cry. Though still unsure of what to do, Marik found his arms opening and Ryou practically jumping into them, then looking back up at his face. After staring at the ceiling for a few more moments, Marik faced the snowy haired boy with a serious face. Very slowly and gently, he placed a feather-light kiss on Ryou's lips. "Don't worry about anything. I will protect you."

"Heh? Bakura-kun! What are you doing here?!"

"…"

Bakura scowled to himself as Yuugi gaped at him. He couldn't he believe he was here in the first place. He frowned, eye twitching when Yuugi suddenly plastered a sugary smile on his face. Folding his arms awkwardly, Bakura quickly snapped, "Stop making me sick with that sickening smile and get me that moronic pharaoh. This is really pissing me off…"

Yuugi blinked at the snowy haired boy at his door. This certainly wasn't the sweet Bakura-kun that he knew, so that could only mean… "Ohhh… Sure, just a second, yami no Bakura."

Muttering under his breath, Bakura cursed his unloyal feet and tapped his foot until Yami finally appeared at the door with a confused and slightly sleepy expression on his face. "There you are, your highness," Bakura said sarcastically, rolling his eyes, "Excuse me for disturbing your beauty sleep…" he paused for a moment, then added, "…and you need it…"

Yami frowned and crossed his arms. He wasn't exactly "teaseable" when he was all sleepy and half awake. (Author: Sorry! Sleepy Yami… *drool* x_X; I promise not to pop up anymore) Sighing, he decided to let the last comment go, since something must seriously be wrong if the tomb robber had showed up at his front door. He knew hat Bakura would rather die than be caught asking him for help. Rubbing his ruby eyes, he muttered with one eye open, "Whaddaya here for, Bakura? Do you have any idea what time it is?"

"…yes, I do. It's only nine o'clock. Why the hell are you sleeping so early?" Bakura spat. "Now, if we can please get to the crisis…"

"Ok, ok… What's wrong?" Yami asked, waking himself up at the same time stifling a yawn. "It's something serious, isn't it? Otherwise you'd never show up here."

"Oh, shut up already." Bakura grabbed his hand impatiently and dragged him down the sidewalk. "Not a word about this to anyone, got that, Pharaoh? Anyway… I… I really need your help… It's Ryou… Someone's taken him…"

"Ryou? What do you mean someone's taken him?!" Yami asked sharply. He was beginning to become a bit suspicious. Firmly, he stood still, not allowing Bakura to drag him anymore. "I know you're very worried, Bakura, but don't you think it would be wise if we figured out a plan before you charge off into who knows what? Now, calm down and come with me back into the game shop…"

"NO!" Bakura exploded, startling Yami. Swirling around, Bakura stared at the pharaoh with wide eyes. "You don't understand! Ryou is gone! He's not here! I can't get in contact with him…I can't even feel him anywhere! Do you understand what it's like to feel like that? How would you feel if Yuugi were suddenly kidnapped and you had less than a week to find him before your body immaterializes and you couldn't get in contact with him at all?! HOW WOULD YOU FEEL?! Tell me, great pharaoh, because I certainly don't think you would take it lying down either!"

Yami blinked in surprise for a moment, but the shook his head and smiled. "You're absolutely right, Bakura. But think about it for a moment, please. You don't know where he is, correct? You said so yourself. What good is it if you run off in some random direction that could lead you miles away from where he really is. I can't say I understand your feelings completely, but I need for you to trust me and come inside where you can tell me more about what happened.

"I'm sure you wouldn't have come to me if you didn't think I could help you in one way or another. Now, please. Bakura, calm down and come inside with me. You can…have some tea?" Yami offered weakly with smile just as weak. "I'll call the others and when we have a better understanding of the situation, we'll split up and go look for him, ok?"

"…Fine…" Bakura grudgingly followed Yami back inside of the game shop. He hated giving the Pharaoh the pleasure of being right for once, but he did have a point. "Just one thing," he grumbled.

"Sure. What is it?" Yami asked, looking over his shoulder at the tomb robber. This was rare. He would never really ask anything from him.

"…do you have to call the apricot girl?"

"…you mean Anzu?"

"That's what I said."

"Uh…ok… What about her?"

"…tell her to go fall off a bridge…"

"That's not very nice, Bakura."

"Face it, you want that too."

"…there's water under a bridge…"

"Good point. That's the spirit, Pharaoh…uh…literally…"

"Whatever. Don't tell Yuugi I said that."

Bakura smirked. The pharaoh wasn't as bad as he thought. At least they could agree on something. He felt surprisingly calm around the ruby-eyed teen. There was just something about being around him that was so soothing. Somehow he felt reassured that he was going to find Ryou. I'm coming, Ryou… I swear I'll be there soon…

Translations/AIB (Author's Incoherent Babbling): o.O; whoa… what a weird change in mood. This chapter seemed extremely light-hearted. n n; which is probably why I wrote it so soon… O_o; not that that's a bad thing… it just seems so sad lately… @_@; agh. I forgot I wanted it that way. Oh, btw, sorry for being mean to Anzu, if any of you are her fans out there… I just thought that it seemed like Yami sort of…is not fond of her judging from a comment he made when she was up against that penguin guy of the Big 5 and Bakura seemed like the type that would just dislike all of Yuugi's friends o_o;

Bakura: ><; that's right! Especially that apricot girl! The only time I liked her was when she was controlled by Marik and she gave me back the sennen ring! Stupid apricot girl!

Anzu: Stop calling me that!

Yami: *tries to hold back snicker, ends up yawning* when can I go back to bed? *mumbles*

Jounochi: *pops out of nowhere* actually, that is what anzu means…

Anzu: isn't it bad enough I'm molested by penguins?! I never want to see one again in the rest of my life! *sob*

Bakura: …I need to get a penguin…

Author: *gush* I wanna glomp da sleepy Yami! *fangirl squeal*

Yami: …

Jounouchi: *poke poke* why are you sleepy anyway? It is kind of early…

Yuugi: *smiles brightly* He was at Kaiba-kun's house!

Yami: X_X; I was not!

Yuugi: Yes, you were! You got home all tired an- *gets grabbed by Yami*

Yami: *laughs nervously* eh…heh… Yuugi…what a joker, huh?

Bakura: so…what were you and the high priest doing, huh?

Mokuba: *pops out of nowhere like Jounochi* they were playing twister or something, 'cause Yami kept screaming that he didn't want to be on the bottom ^_^

Everyone else: … *sweatdrop*

Mokuba: Yeah! And nii-sama was winning 'cause I heard Yami saying he couldn't believe how good he was *bright smile*

Seto: …how the hell did I get here? Mokuba, what have you been saying here?

Mokuba: o.o; but I haven't said anything *gets dragged off anyway*

Yami: =.=; why are you so evil to me?

Author: *gush* because I love you dearly

Anzu: Hey!

Bakura: …dammit, I need a penguin…
