Legacy of Seraph
Chapter Two
The name "McCann" bothered Joey for the rest of the day. He knew that he had heard that name somewhere before, but he could not remember where. This kept him from being his usual overtalkative self, to the point where everyone else grew worried.
"Joey, is there something wrong?" Yugi asked after they had gotten together at the game shop.
"Yeah, you've barely said two sentences all day," Tristan remarked.
"Nah, I'm fine," Joey said. I wonder if Yuan will show up.
Just then, Joey heard a car pull up outside. Joey looked out the window and his jaw dropped. Yuan showed up, but that is not what surprised him.
"That is one hot ride!" Joey exclaimed. Tea, thinking Joey meant her, slapped him.
"Owww! Not you, Tea!" Joey said, bringing his hand to his cheek. "I'm talkin' 'bout his car!" Joey was obviously impressed with the red 1972 Corvette big-block convertible that Yuan had just pulled up in. Yuan got out of the car and walked into the shop.
"Hey, Yuan!" Joey yelled. "Ya showed up!"
"What's up, Joey?" Yuan greeted. "Feeling better?"
"Hey! Come over here!" Joey motioned for Yuan to join him. "I want ya to meet my friends!"
Joey had Yuan sit down with Tea, Tristan, Yugi, Duke, and Serenity. "Serenity, ya know a'ready. Dis here's my old pal, Tristan Taylor. Dis guy is Duke Devlin."
Yuan shook Duke's hand. "Devlin? Aren't you the guy who came up with Dungeon Dice Monsters?" Duke nodded.
"Dis is Tea Gardner."
Yuan held out Tea's hand and kissed it. "A pleasure to meet you, Miss Gardner," Yuan said.
Tea blushed. "Please, just call me Tea."
"Heh. Didn't know you were so smooth with da ladies," Joey remarked. "And dis here's Yugi Moto. His grandpa owns dis store."
Yuan shook Yugi's hand. "Nice to meet you." He then laid his eyes on the Millennium Puzzle. "Yugi, is that a Millennium Item around your neck?"
Yugi held up the Millennium Puzzle. "Yes, it is. Why do you ask?"
"I need you to give it to me," Yuan said.
"What are you talking about?" Yugi asked.
"I need to destroy the Millennium Items. Please, I need you to give it to me." Yuan's left hand moved for his sword.
"No!" Yugi exclaimed.
"Give it to me!" Then, the Millennium Puzzle activated and Yami awoke.
"You will not have the Millennium Puzzle!" Yami shouted.
Yuan was surprised to see that the spirit had already awoken, and hesitated. Then, Tristan hit Yuan with a chop to the back of the neck. Yuan fell to the floor.

Yuan came to in a warehouse-like area. He assumed he was in the storage area of the shop. He tried to stand up, but he found that his hands were tied to a support beam.
"Well, look who's awake," came a voice from Yuan's right. Tristan stood overhead, his arms crossed.
"What are you doing?!" Yuan demanded. "Let me go!"
"I'm sorry, Yuan, but we can't do that just yet," Yugi responded. "We need you to answer a few questions."
"Yeah, like exactly who are you, anyway?" Joey demanded.
"All right," Yuan responded. "My full name is Shane Christopher McCann. I come from Brooke's Heights, a town in central New York. I was given the nickname 'Yuan' by my friends. 'Yuan' is a Native American word for 'Hurricane.' I was given this name because I would sweep my dueling opponents away and leave their decks destroyed. Joey can attest to that."
"One thing I wanna know is where da hell I've heard da name 'McCann before!" Joey said.
"You have probably heard about it from my father," Yuan said. "My father was none other than Charles McCann."
"Charles McCann?" Yugi exclaimed. "You're kidding. Charles McCann was a former Duelist World Champion!"
"That's right," Yuan responded. "My father was undefeated. No one could even touch him. Some people began to call him 'Mr. 8000,' since it was rare that he lost any Life Points. Everyone says my talent came from him, but I try to put on a different appearance from him. I don't want to be a second-rate version of my father, but a first-rate version of myself."
"Wait a second," Yugi said. "You keep referring to your father in the past tense. Why is that?"
"You don't know?" Yuan responded. He hung his head. "He died a few months ago.
"You see, my father retired a few years ago. Problem is, he was still the champion when he retired, so a tournament was held to determine the next champion. As you know, that was Seto Kaiba. Then, about one year ago, they came.
"It all started when a bizarre man came to town. He had kind of a mechanical voice. He was a lot like the guy Joey ran into yesterday. He challenged one duelist after another behind the scenes. They even got . . . my father . . .
"Soon, I was the only person left in the town. The man then came for me. Somehow - I think it was mostly luck - I defeated him in a duel. He then ran off. The next day, another man came, much like the first. He forced me into a Shadow Game, and I still won. This continued for three more days, until he came. This particular man looked much like the others, with one exception: he had the Millennium Eye."
"What?" Yugi exclaimed. "That can't be possible!"
"Unfortunately, it's true," Yuan said. "Using the powers of the Millennium Eye, he defeated me. He then took me away. When I came to, I found myself strapped to a lab table. I don't know how, but they were about to steal my dueling abilities and kill me. I was able to stall them by asking questions.
"They call themselves Westrams. You may not believe this, but these Westrams are in fact extraterrestrials from outer space."
"No way!" Joey exclaimed. "You mean dat guy I had my ass handed to me by was an alien?"
"Yes," Yuan said. "Apparently, these Westrams conduct research on every planet. They find out about what makes us tick, what we enjoy the most. They then go around stealing anyone with natural ability to sap it and then kill the person. The corpses are then used as energy, and they use these talents to steal the talent of other people. Some Westrams go after sports players, some after musicians. However, the most common target is duelists. They take these abilities, and when they become superior to every person on a planet, they move in and conquer the planet effortlessly and bloodlessly; at least on their part. Considering the one I lost to had the Millennium Eye, they must have already gotten Maximillion Pegasus. Finding the Millennium Eye was the worst possible thing that could have happened. They learned about the power of the Millennium Items and the Egyptian God Cards, and now they will stop at nothing to get them."
"I had the Millennium Eye last," Yugi said. "I held onto it, the Millennium Rod, and the Millennium Ring after Marik was defeated. All three disappeared a while ago. Anyway, is that the reason why you want to destroy the Millennium Items?"
"Yes and no," Yuan responded. "The main reason is my sword.
"Back when the Millennium Items were first made, several people attempted to get their hands on them. One of my ancestors, an Israelite named Simon, entered Egypt to destroy the Millennium Items. He was armed with this: my sword. This sword is infused with an Israelite high priest's blessing. It is known as Seraph. This sword has seen many battles with users of the Millennium Items, and reacts strongly when a Millennium Item is nearby. It also has other powers, of which I do not know ."
"Bullshit," Duke responded. "This is all bullshit."
"Don't believe me?" Yuan asked. "Fine. Yugi, I want you to take hold of my sword."
"What?" Yugi asked. "Why?"
"You'll see," Yuan responded. "But before you do, you had best remove the Millennium Puzzle."
Yugi took the Millennium Puzzle off his neck and handed it to Joey. He then took the hilt of Seraph and pulled. The sword slid smoothly out of its scabbard. Yugi then held the sword straight up. When he did so, his eyes went out of focus.

"That's enough!" one Westram shouted. He had the Millennium Eye. "No more questions! Now, human, you will die, and your abilities will be ours!"
Suddenly, Seraph began to glow. The room was filled with blinding light. When the light died down, Yuan was out of his bonds and held Seraph in his left hand. "I don't think so," Yuan said. He swung Seraph and a shockwave came from the blade. All of the Westrams were knocked unconscious and Yuan made his escape.

"Yuan is telling the truth," Yugi said. "We can and should trust him."
"I believed Yuan from da beginnin'," Joey said. "I get da feelin' dat Duke is da only one who doesn't believe Yuan."
"I believe him!" Tea piped up immediately.
"So do I!" Serenity added.
"Cut da crap," Joey responded. "Da only reason you two believe him is 'cause ya both like him."
Serenity's and Tea's faces went scarlet. "I DO NOT!" they shouted in unison.
Yuan's face fell. "Oh. I failed. I guess my life no longer has meaning. Maybe I should just turn myself in to the Westrams."
Tea and Serenity turned white. They both rushed over to Yuan.
"No, don't do that!" Serenity wailed. "Here, I'll untie your bonds."
"I'll help you up," Tea said as he helped lifted Yuan back to his feet.
Yuan smiled. "Gotcha. You do like me, don't you?"
Tea and Serenity turned red again as Yugi and Joey burst out laughing. Tristan and Duke, however, had sour expressions on their faces.
"Are you still going to try to destroy the Millennium Puzzle?" Yugi asked.
Yuan shook his head. "I could tell that the spirit inhabiting it was strong and just. It isn't at all like the others. I'll let your Millennium Item go. Now, I have a favor to ask all of you. Now that you have heard my story, will all of you help me out?"
"Of course!" Yugi exclaimed. "You're our friend now. We'll help you out any way we can!"
"I have one question," Joey said. "How can three duelists like us stand up to a bunch of superpower aliens?"
"We don't," Yuan answered. "We get reinforcements."
"Wait a sec," Joey interrupted. "Don't tell me ya were gonna ask Kaiba!"
"Joey, what are you talking about?" Yugi asked.
"The main reason I'm here in Domino is to meet with Seto Kaiba, the CEO of KaibaCorp," Yuan explained. "I came to show him a product I've made. You see, after he retired, my father and his brother, my Uncle Artis, established an electronics company called McCann Microchips. You probably haven't heard of us, but we install a very large percentage of the chips in many electronics, such as clocks, computer parts and-"
"-and Duel Disks?" Joey asked.
"Yes," Yuan responded. "But only KaibaCorp duel disks. That is why I'm going to see Kaiba instead of Industrial Illusions. Also, there is another reason. Like Joey said, I also intend to ask Kaiba for his assistance. I know that the Westrams will eventually target Kaiba, and I'm sure Joey and Yugi are on their hit list, as well."
"You'd best forget about Kaiba," Joey said. "He looks out for no one but himself and his bro."
"Which is why I think he will listen. These Westrams will undoubtedly be after him, since only Yugi and Pegasus have beaten him. Also, Kaiba seems like the type to leap to the offensive rather than letting his opponent make the first move."
"Well, if you're lookin' for reinforcements, I'll get Mai," Joey said. "She's one of da best duelists out dere."
"We should also check in with Ishizu," Yugi said. "She may know something already, and if she doesn't, then we can tell her."
"All right," Yuan said. "Let's get to work."
