Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Life is Meaningless ❯ Science Project Partners ( Chapter 2 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Okay, I have no idea what I'm doing with this fic. When I wrote the first chapter, I was really depressed, so I have no idea what my train of thought was. Please continue to read and tell me if I got off track.

Enjoy…I hope.

Malik's POV

What can I do to make Ryou feel better?
He's been depressed and stuff ever since we were kids…that is, ever since his mom died.
I know his dad and he left the country for a year or two after she died. I wonder if something happened while they were overseas.

“Hey Malik! Come look at this CD!” Yugi called me over. I ran and grabbed the CD from his hand. Linkin Park's new CD-Meteora. I love the song on it, “Somwhere I Belong.”

“Are you going to get a copy, too?” I asked him. He nodded and pulled out another CD that he had held at his side. “I'm going to get this one, too.” I looked at it as he held it up. The Goo-Goo Doll's new CD, huh? I knew he liked that band, too.

“Should we go and get something to eat?” Yugi asked me as we left the store after buying our new CDs.

“Sure. I know about this new place that they just finished building at the other end of the mall.” I replied, pointing down the way, “Let's go.”

As we walked past some shops, Yugi stopped in front of an American Eagle store window. He glued his eyes to the glass and looked in. I stepped up next to him and looked through the window. Inside was Yami Mutou and one of the cheerleaders. I think her name is Anzu. Anyway, I know that Yugi has a crush on the guy, but he doesn't stand much of a chance against her. Yugi looked at me and smiled, “It doesn't hurt to dream.”

As we came near to the new café, I immediately hid behind a potted palm tree. Inside was Marik Ishtar and his partner, Bakura Itemri. I don't even know why I hide from the guy. Yugi says it's because I like the guy. Yea, as if. “Then, I took his bag from him and made him kiss me.” I wonder who Bakura is talking about.

“That's great. The guy's such a pushover. He deserves what he gets.” Marik has pretty hair. It's all shiny and spiky. God, what the heck am I saying?! Maybe Yugi's right…maybe I do like him. GOD, what am I saying?!?!?!

“Malik, are we going to eat here?” Yugi asked me.

I took his hand and dragged him away, “No we can eat somewhere else.” I don't even know why I'm doing this. I should be able to go in there and eat….even if he's there. What is wrong with me? It's not that I don't mind gay people. Yugi's one. It just doesn't seem right. God…I need to get counseling or something.

Normal POV

The next day at school, Malik and Yugi gossiped as they walked down the hallway. As they came near to Ryou's locker, the two stopped beside it, “Good morning, Ryou.” Malik said, leaning against the locker next to his.

“What's so good about it?” Ryou asked. His face was hidden behind the locker door since he was digging through his locker, looking for some of his schoolbooks.

“Well, it's Friday for one. And we have no tests today, so I think that makes for an all around good day.” Malik replied.

“Whatever.” Ryou replied, still looking through his locker. Then, he slammed his locker door shut. When he looked at him, his face was covered in bruises and scratches.

Yugi freaked, “Oh my god! Ryou, what happened to you?”

“Nothing. I just fell and hit some sharp stuff on the sidewalk yesterday.” Ryou replied, brushing it off.

“Like….more than once obviously.” Malik said, not buying, “What really happened?”

“It's none of your business!” Ryou replied angrily, “God, just leave me the hell alone!” He stomped off angrily and disappeared into the next hallway. Malik and Yugi watched him disappear.

Malik sighed, “I wish he would tell us more. That way, we could help him.”

“I hope he's okay.” Yugi said, worried.

“I don't know for sure, Yugi.” Malik said. Then he turned back and looked down at his partner, “So what did you think of LP's new CD?”

“It was awesome!” Yugi replied. The two continued to gossip as they walked down the hallway, drowning out the world around them.

“All right class, listen up. For your next science project, you are required to work with a partner. I will allow you to choose your partners. Should you decide not to, I will assign you one.” the professor said.

Ryou ignored him, as usual, looking out the window. “Hey Ryou.” Bakura said, coming up and leaning on Ryou's desk, “You and I are going to be partners.”

“As if I'd work with a buffoon like you.” Ryou replied, looking at him, bored.

“You don't have a choice. Hey teacher!” Bakura called, “Ryou and I will be working together.”

“Very good.” the professor replied, scribbling their names.

“See? I told you that you didn't have a choice.” Bakura grinned. Ryou glared at him and then turned back to looking out the window.

“Hey Malik, do you want to work with me?” Yugi asked his friend, standing in front of his desk.

“Sure, I would love-” Malik was cut off when Marik took him by the shoulders and pulled him back.

“Sorry midget, but Malik and I are going to work together.” Marik said, grinning slyly.

“Who said I would work with you?” Malik said, looking up at him angrily.

“I did.” Marik said, ushering the teacher over, “We're working together. Got that?” The teacher nodded, writing their names down and walking away, “So find someone else to work with, little boy.”

“Oh…okay.” Yugi said dejectedly, wandering away. Looking down to the ground, he didn't notice that he ran into someone. Both of them fell to the ground. “I'm sorry! I'm so sorry!” Yugi apologized.

“It's okay, really. I wasn't looking where I was going either.” Yugi looked to see Yami there, rubbing his head, “We're both at fault, I guess.”
“Yea…I g-guess so.” Yugi stumbled over his words.

“Hey, do you have partner yet?” Yami asked. Yugi shook his head harshly, “Then why don't you and I work together?”

“O-okay.” Yugi replied.

“Great. Hey professor.” Yami called. “Yugi and I will be working together. Your name is Yugi, right?” Yami turned back to him.

“Yes!” Yugi said in a start, `Oh my god! He knows my name! I don't believe it!'

“Well then, I believe that's everyone. All right students, you have a week to come up with your science projects. I expect to see some notes on your project by the end of the week. Your actual project is due in one month. So get started.” The professor said. Then, the bell rang and everyone shuffled out.

Ryou stayed behind and slowly packed his books. As he picked up his last one, his hand was covered by another's. He looked up to see Bakura, grinning at him, “What do you want?”

“I thought that I should come home with you so we could talk about our project.” Bakura replied slyly.

“I don't think so.” Ryou said, grabbing the book and stuffing it into his bag. He walked out of the room, and Bakura followed him.

“Come on now. If we're going to work together and pass, we need to talk about our project. Your house is closest, anyway.” Bakura said.

“I said no!” Ryou replied, angrily, “Now leave me alone.”

“I don't think so. I want to pass this class.” Bakura said, grabbing his arm, “So either we work together or you're going to regret it.”

“Like it matters.” Ryou mumbled.

“What was that?” Bakura said, gripping Ryou's arm tightly.

“Fine, you can come over. But I'm telling you, it's not a good idea.” Ryou said. Bakura let go of his arm. “Follow me.” Ryou walked down the steps and Bakura followed him, smiling coyly.

`This should be a lot of fun.'
