Ryou was thrown helplessly against the wall. He didn't cry out - if he did, Bakura would just hurt him even more. He just took the punishment that came with not doing the chores properly and then staggered up to the bathroom to take care of his new bruises. Ryou thanked the Lord that the uniform for his school came with a compulsory long sleeve jacket.

Bakura-san, why do you do this to me? he thought sadly.

Little did he know that Bakura was listening to the light's thoughts.

%&%&%&%&% - Bakura

Why do I do it? the Tomb Robber asked himself. He wasn't sure... sometimes he asked himself why he hurt the being he loved so much. Some pathetic excuse always entered his mind, like 'He's too weak,' or 'If I don't show him what it's like out there in the world, who will?' But Bakura knew they were just cover-ups. He winced as he heard soft sobs coming from the bathroom. I hate hearing Ryou cry... alright then. From this moment on, I will not hurt Ryou anymore. He won't have an excuse to cry then... Bakura told himself. He had tried this out once or twice before, and it hadn't worked... but now he was sure it would.

"Ryou?" he called softly, not expecting an answer.

"What?" came the reply. Bakura was startled. How did Ryou hear him? Then he smacked himself on the head. Duh! The door to the bathroom wasn't really soundproof - the sobs that he had heard proved that. If he could hear Ryou crying, then Ryou would surely be able to hear him calling out.

"Oh, um... nothing."

%&%&%&%&% - Ryou

Did he just really do that? Say 'um'? Ryou thought incredulously, his tears stopping for a moment. Bakura never said 'um'! He had always tried to cure Ryou of saying it too... by either one of two ways.

One: whenever Ryou said it, Bakura would flex his arm, nod at Ryou and say "yes, arm. Now, what are you saying?"

Or two: a punch in the stomach.

Needless to say, Ryou preferred method one. It always seemed to make him laugh. Ryou shook his head slowly and continued with rubbing calming lotion onto his inflamed skin. Ryou didn't know why he continued to take these beatings - wait, yes he did. He loved Bakura, loved him with all of his heart. And not in a brotherly way, either. He hoped and against hope that Bakura felt the same way, but he wasn't laying any bets that the Tomb Robber did.

Finished in the bathroom, Ryou moved soundlessly across the hallway and opened the door to his room. Laying down gently on his bed (but still flinching from the tingling pain), he tried to get comfortable.

%&%&%&%&% - normal

Bakura was also lying on his bed in his room. But try as he might, sleep just would not come. He always felt this way after beating on Ryou, and just lately he had come to identify the feeling - it was guilt. Bakura felt guilty that he didn't have the same relationship with his hikari as the Pharaoh - or even the maniac - did. Yugi and Atemu seemed to always be in a state of bliss around each other, and this way the type of relationship that Bakura craved to have with Ryou. Marik and Malik had a kind of hate/love relationship - but even they had it better than Bakura did. At least they could talk civilly with each other (before throwing themselves at each other in passion).

Bakura - or rather, Baka - sighed and willed sleep to him.

-|-|-|-|-

Ryou stirred slightly, hearing a sound from the kitchen. It sounded distinctly like the beep of the fridge having been left open too long. A string of Egyptian curses floated up the stairs to Ryou's ears. He grinned - Bakura was trying to make himself breakfast. Ryou rolled over and looked at the clock, ignoring the pain in his leg; he had dealt with worse. 10:23?! Ryou yelped as he practically threw himself out of bed and one of the new scars tore open a little.

Stumbling down the stairs, he realised a fraction too late that he was only wearing the boxers he had pulled on last night to go to sleep in. Oh well, he sighed mentally. Bakura's seen me in my boxers anyway.

The sight that greeted him was a surprising one. Bakura was wearing an apron ~(mental image... funny! ^_^)~ and was standing in front of the stove, holding a pan with pancakes in it - and glaring daggers at the fridge. He seemed to be considering whether or not to send it to the Shadow Realm - along with everything in it. Apparently, the annoyed part of Bakura won, because in the next instant, the fridge glowed and disappeared.

"Bakura!" Ryou cried. His yami turned to him, a puzzle expression on his face.

"What?" he growled.

"That had food in it to last us for two weeks," Ryou despaired. He didn't have enough money to go out and buy more - it looked as though more borrowing from his friends would be planned for later. What excuse would he use this time? The fridge blew up and then he had to drag it to the dump?

"Oh, really? Guess you're going to have to go out and buy more," Bakura suggested darkly, completely forgetting what he had been doing beforehand. Ryou reminded him.

"Why were you making pancakes, and why did you let me sleep in on a school day? I could've sworn I turned the alarm on last night," Ryou frowned.

"I was hungry, you were tired, and by alarm do you mean the annoying buzzing that woke me up early this morning?" Bakura answered, not really used to this stern side of Ryou - but then again, when it came to school and food (the most and least important things in the world, in Bakura's opinion), Ryou always had been very strict.

"Yes, that buzzing."

"I didn't exactly send it to the Shadow Realm," he said, and paused. How could he explain this in the simplest way possible? "I sent the sound to the Shadow Realm." Ryou looked confused, then smiled as he realised what had happened. The smile was soon replaced by a frown again, though. He most certainly didn't have enough money to buy a new alarm clock.

"Well... I'm going to go and get changed, then I'll go out and get some more food, I guess."

"You do that," answered Bakura. Almost without thinking, he slid the spatula underneath one of the pancakes and threw it towards Ryou as the light turned to leave. Ryou caught it, and quickly transferred it from hand to hand as it was hot, only just off the stove. It cooled enough for him to eat it before long, though. He munched on it after getting dressed. Walking back downstairs, he spotted Bakura sitting at the table with a tall glass of orange juice and about five more pancakes. Ryou just smiled.

"Pig," he murmured as he left. Almost forgetting, he called back into the house. "Thanks!" he yelled.

"For what?" came the answer, but Ryou was already gone.

-|-|-|-|-

Ryou came home to a quiet house. Checking his watch, he surmised that Bakura must be in front of the TV by now. It was the official "Movie Night" that only happened once a month - practically the only time Bakura dug into his own pocket for funds. The TV had become like a sacred relic to Bakura.

"Ryou? S'that you?" came a sleepy voice from upstairs. Guess he wasn't in front of the TV after all, Ryou thought. Bakura made his way down the stairs, avoiding some articles of clothing, a pair of rollerblades (Ryou had tried to teach Bakura, once... never again), and a few CD cases among other things.

"Yes. I've got the food - we'll have to make do with that old cooler in the basement in place of a fridge for now," Ryou answered apologetically. Bakura almost seemed to blush then. 'Almost' being the key word.

"Actually, we don't," he replied. Ryou looked at him, decidedly confused. Huh? Ryou thought. Bakura motioned him into the kitchen. Ryou froze in shock at what he saw.

There was the old fridge, the one Bakura had banished!

"Wha -?" he managed to get out.

"Went on a trip to the Shadow Realm, since you seemed to upset about losing the old thing. I had to negotiate with a few monsters who had taken a liking to it, but I got it back in one piece, pretty much. That beeping noise doesn't work anymore, though," Bakura came up behind Ryou.

"That's OK, it bugged me anyway." Looking at the fridge, he smiled suddenly. Bakura must be going soft to do something like that for him!

"Well, what do you say?" teased Bakura. At times, the two seemed like brothers with all of the arguing and teasing. At other times enemies, like when Bakura hit Ryou and Ryou fought back. But most of the time Bakura just ignored Ryou's very existence unless he wanted something, like food or the TV channel changed (he still had yet to work that out... Ryou had gone through four remotes, all having gone to the Shadow Realm until he suggested to Bakura that he let Ryou change the channels from that day onwards).

"Thank you, Bakura," he replied like a five-year old. Then he did something that surprised even him, but more so Bakura. He hugged the ancient spirit! Bakura tensed for a moment, then relaxed slightly, letting the warmth wash over him.

Ryou pulled back, slightly embarrassed if the pink tinge on his cheeks was any indication.

"Uh... which movies did you get?" he asked uncertain.

"Movies!" Bakura gasped. He grabbed his wallet and checked that there was enough money in it, then raced out the door. Ryou just grinned, knowing full well that Bakura probably hadn't forgotten, just had been temporarily distracted with showing him the resurrected fridge and all...

-|-|-|-|-

Bakura wandered through the 'horror' section, trying to decide on one more movie. He had a coupon that read "Get Five Weeklies for $5!" He didn't exactly know what weeklies were, just that they didn't include the movies that occupied that back shelf, the new releases. He had already chosen four; The Ring, fear.com, Panic Room and Dracula (an oldie but a goodie, as Ryou's dad would say). He needed one more. Not finding anything in the horror section, he entered the 'sci-fi' section, going past 'romance' as he did so. One movie in that section caught his eye. 'Elizabeth,' it simply read. Bakura had heard Ryou speak of this 'Elizabeth' woman... and Bakura vaguely recalled him saying that he wanted to watch this movie.

Oh, what the hell, he thought, and grabbed it. If that's what Ryou wanted... he thought as he read the back. It didn't really sound like his thing, but then again... popcorn hadn't been his thing before Ryou had introduced him to the wonderful sweet. Chocolate either - now Bakura couldn't live without either.

He paid for the five, and it only took him about ten minutes to reach home. Pausing outside for a moment, he regarded the house. He shrugged off the feeling that something had changed since he had last done that, and pulled out his key. Surprisingly, Ryou opened the door before Bakura could get to it.

"You're back!" he grinned. "Which one's did you get?" Bakura handed them to his hikari, then barged past him to the living room. Plopping himself down onto the couch, he waited for Ryou to choose which one they watched first.

Ryou followed Bakura in, looking through the movies. When he got to 'Elizabeth', he gasped.

"Bakura!" he laughed, and hugged the startled spirit again. "You remembered!"

"Yeah," he answered gruffly. Ryou pulled away and grinned.

"Since you remembered, I'm not going to make you watch it, we'll watch a movie of your choice first," the now happy hikari proclaimed.

"Cool," Bakura grinned. He chose 'The Ring,' and slid it into the VCR. Ryou snatched up the controls, and hit the eject button. Bakura laughed and pushed the tape back in. This went on for a short while, until Bakura placed his hand firmly over the entrance of the VCR, defeating Ryou.

"Alright, alright. You win!" Ryou smiled, and hit 'play'. Instantly the screen went black as the 'WARNING' came up. Bakura made his way back to the couch, and sat down, getting himself comfortable. The time was 8:00pm.

-|-|-|-|-

12:30am...

Bakura's eyes fluttered closed, but he forced them to open again. Dracula had just ended. As the credits rolled, Bakura grinned at his hikari. The choice of movies so far had had his spooked - Ryou wasn't sure he wanted to watch another. Bakura just grinned wickedly at him, and chose 'Panic Room'.

Ryou fast forwarded through the previews, and almost missed the beginning of the movie. "There!" Bakura cried, as Jodie Foster flashed up on screen. ~(no, not that type of flash)~

"Yeah, yeah."

**CUT-SCENE**

"Is that a girl or a boy?"

"Girl. Now be quiet!"

**CUT-SCENE**

"'People. In the house.'"

"Well, duh."

"Shut up!"

**CUT-SCENE**

"'Open the door!'"

"Don't do it!"

"Ryou."

"Yeah?"

"STOP. COMMENTATING!"

"OK."

**CUT-SCENE**

"Is Sarah going to die?"

"..."

"OK, I'll shut up."

"..."

**CUT-SCENE**

The credits rolled on screen... it was 2:00am. Ryou looked up to see that Bakura was dozing off, and smiled gently. It wasn't often he got to see his yami that vulnerable... he looked so sweet just laying there.

He nudged Bakura awake, and got up to put in the last horror, fear.com.

-|-|-|-|-

3:45am...

"Well... that was... hmmm, I think the word is unoriginal," Bakura yawned. It seemed almost exactly like 'The Ring', only you died after three days instead of seven, and you died only if you went to a certain website, not watched a videotape.

"It was boring, you mean," Ryou bluntly stated. All tactfulness had disappeared around an hour ago.

"Yep, that just about sums it up," Bakura agreed.

"And now for the last movie," Ryou grinned.

"Uh-huh," Bakura replied, the enthusiasm absent from his voice.

"Come on, 'Kura. It's a good movie, or so I've heard!" Bakura didn't hear much beyond the ''Kura' part. Ryou had never given him a nickname before!

"Alright then," he murmured with a tiny bit more enthusiasm.

"Better, I guess..." Ryou said as the tape began to play.

An hour later...

Ryou felt sleepy... after all, it was about quarter to five in the morning. In the movie, the Duke of Anjou had just been introduced. Ryou didn't notice as his eyes closed, and head drooped.

Bakura started as he felt a head on his shoulder. Glancing to the right, he smiled softly at Ryou who was sleeping quite peacefully... on his shoulder, nevertheless. Bakura slid his arm around Ryou's shoulders, pulling the tenshi closer. Now would probably be the best time to tell Ryou how he felt - when Ryou wasn't awake to reject him.

"Watakushi shitai ni iu kimi aru-mono. Aishiteru Bakura Ryou. Kono {is} ni naru ano kiso {my} watashi kokoro, soshite sore wa {is spoken} to issho ni idai niwa rani no rai shini. ~(Translation: I want to tell you something. I love you, Ryou Bakura. This is coming from the bottom of my heart, and is spoken with nothing but truth. ... Awww! Buka2000, arigatou! If anyone can help me with the bits not translated ((the {blah} bits)), I would be very thankful!)~

"'Kura?" came a sleepy voice, a lot like Bakura's had been the afternoon before. Oh shit! Bakura thought. Did he hear me? Looking down at Ryou again, he saw the look in his hikari's eyes. Guess so, Bakura thought, for the look was all of the confirmation he needed. It was full of an emotion that kind of scared Bakura. He had felt it, was feeling it... but never expected to get it in return. It was love.

"Yes, Ryou?" he asked.

"Is it true?" Ryou sounded a little uncertain. I would too, if Ryou had just told me that. Actually no, I would probably be running, screaming, out of town... thought Bakura sadly.

"Yes," he answered simply. There was no point in sugar-coating the truth. He loved Ryou, and he didn't care if Ryou didn't love him back.

"Aishiteru," Ryou told him softly. Bakura stared at him in shock. "Aishiteru," he repeated, more firmly. Bakura finally came out of his state of shock.

"But how? After all I've done to you... how?"

"I don't know... actually, yes I think I do. Bakura, have I ever told you why I like the card 'Change of Heart'?" Ryou asked suddenly.

"Iie, I don't think so."

"I like it because I think it symbolises you and me," Ryou stated. He pulled the card out of a drawer near the couch. "See? The light and the dark, co-existing harmoniously as one being." Bakura studied the card.

"But how does it tell you why you love me?" he asked, still confused.

"Because this is how we are. Light and dark, one never without the other. If you light a candle, shadows are thrown. In the darkest of nights, there are always stars, even though you may not see them," Ryou smiled. This was going into some really deep philosophy for five o'clock in the morning.

"I see. So you're saying that there was no way that this would not eventually happen?" Bakura questioned. Then he remembered. Marik and Malik. Yami and Yugi. Seto and Seth. Shadi and Shaadi. All hikari and yami combinations - all happy together. Well, for Marik and Malik it wasn't so much happy, as content with torture.

"Yes, I think so."

"Hmm... let's think more about this is the morning, shall we? Go back to sleep," he whispered the last part. Ryou obeyed, and Bakura soon followed him into La-La-Land.

-|-|-|-|-

2:00pm...

Bakura stirred, and felt his hand brush something warm. He jolted awake, then remembered. He and Ryou had fallen asleep on the couch together. Ryou's hair tickled his nose, and Bakura sneezed, waking Ryou.

"Hn?" Ryou seemed to be incoherent this early in the morning... er, afternoon.

"Ohayoo," Bakura murmured, and stretched.

"Morning," Ryou replied. "About last night..."

"Jump right to the point, don't you Ryou?" Ryou blushed at the look he was receiving.

"I - I don't know."

"Well, if I know what you're asking... and I think I do - then, no, it wasn't a dream," Bakura grinned. And just to prove his point, he leaned down and pecked Ryou on the lips. Liking the taste of Ryou so much, he went back for seconds.

Ryou smiled into the kiss. It still seemed as good as a dream... he prayed to whatever gods that were listening, that if it was a dream to not wake him up!

Bakura ran his tongue over Ryou's bottom lip, asking for entrance. Ryou granted it gladly, and Bakura explored his hikari's mouth with his tongue. Ryou tasted like vanilla, Bakura was happy to discover. Mmm... yummy, Bakura thought hazily. ~(I can just imagine Bakura thinking that... not!)~ Pulling back out of Ryou's mouth, Bakura gasped for air. Ryou whimpered slightly at the loss of warmth. His hands fluttered around Bakura's shirt's buttons, trying to undo them. Bakura caught Ryou's hands with his own.

"Are you sure?" he asked in a voice lower than usual.

Ryou nodded, and Bakura let his hands go. They continued to take off his shirt. When Ryou went for his pants, Bakura caught them again.

"No, no, no. Play fair," he scolded. Ryou looked at him quizzically. His questioning look was soon answered as he was divested of his shirt as well. Ryou made to go after Bakura's pants again, but was stopped for a third time. Bakura 'tut'ted, and lowered his mouth to Ryou's.

Bakura's mouth left Ryou's, and travelled downwards. He placed light kisses down Ryou's neck, and targeted that spot for a few moments, as Ryou seemed to like it. He then left Ryou's neck again, and continued down past his collarbone to his nipples. Bakura took one of the nubs in his mouth, and swirled his tongue around it, making Ryou moan. He then gave the same treatment to the other one, eliciting another moan. Soon he left Ryou's chest as well, and continued to his navel. Dipping his tongue in and out, Bakura grinned slightly as Ryou tangled his hands in the dark's hair.

//You like, my hikari?//

/Ba - ku - ra!/ came the answer.

//Yes?//

/Stop - tea - sing!/

//Soon, koi.// Bakura was enjoying this immensely. He was finally getting to do what he had wanted to do for such a long time!

/NOW!/ Bakura laughed at his light's insistence, and finally gave in. He ripped off his hikari's pants and tossed them over his shoulder, doing the same with his own. The two teens were left in their boxers...

and then the doorbell rang. Bakura cursed in Egyptian, making Ryou giggle. He seriously thought about sending whoever it was to the Shadow Realm without even seeing them… but decided against it. He rolled off of the couch, and scrabbled around for his pants. Sliding into them, he threw on a shirt (didn't button it up, though), and went to see who it was.

Throwing open the door, he sighed. It was the Pharaoh's hikari! How dare he interrupt the important workings going on inside!

"What do you want?" Bakura growled. Yugi held out two day's worth of homework - for Ryou, he guessed. "Ryou!" he called. "Homework's here."

"Huh? Oh, right," came Ryou's voice. Some movement was heard in the living room as Ryou looked for his clothes. He came out a few minutes later, looking almost exactly like Bakura - hair mussed up, shirt unbuttoned and a bit unhappy with the disturbance. He accepted the homework from Yugi.

"Uh… Ryou. What were you doing? To look like that, I mean," asked Yugi. Ryou just grinned and shooed Bakura away. He left, looking like a reprimanded schoolboy. He heard Yugi leave a few minutes later. Ryou came back to the living room and sat on Bakura's lap, grinning like an idiot.

"What's so funny, my light?" Bakura asked, the grin contagious.

"Oh nothing. Now, where were we?"
