Light in Darkness

A/N: Here's chapter one! This was just an idea that popped into my head turned fanfic! ~_^

A young teenager with sparkling violet eyes walked down the street, only visible under the streetlamps. He'd stayed at school for chess club and was totally late getting home. It was almost nine thirty. He looked around with a sad smile on his face. Not even the other chess players were his friends. He never had any. Just because he was so innocent, and so caring…nobody would be friends with him. Sure, he had his little chats with bullies every day, but never really had somebody who he could talk to, trust, and spend time with. He sighed dejectedly. Nobody would ever care-only his grandpa. Just the thoughts of being alone the rest of his life brought tears to the youth's eyes. Little did he know he was being watched.

Two people were eyeing him closely, one male and one female, both with glistening fangs. They slowly approached him, as silently as the deathly night. The female grabbed Yugi, causing the teen to turn around. The woman had short brown hair and icy blue eyes. She was tall and thin. The guy had long black hair tied in a ponytail and dark green eyes. Yugi looked at them nervously, debating if he should make a run for it.

The 'young' man spoke up. "Are you Yugi Mutou?"

Yugi nodded cautiously. He didn't know who these people were or how they knew him. Then he looked up at the green-eyed male.

"W-what do you want?"

He laughed. "I'm Duke and this is Tea. Our Dark Lord had noticed that you look similar to him. By any chance are you the son of Maya Mutou?"

Yugi blinked in surprise. "Hai…but she died a long time ago…"

Tea nodded. "We know. She was the Queen of the Kingdom of Light. She left it to you when you died."

The amethyst-eyed boy stared at them. "D-does my Grandpa know about this?"

Both Tea and Duke glanced at each other and shrugged. They didn't have a clue. Maybe they should just go to Yugi's grandfather then?

They pulled Yugi to the game shop, already knowing its location. When they entered, the three were greeted by a astonished Solomon.

"Tea? Duke? What are you two doing with Yugi?"

Tea blinked twice. "He is to take the throne at the Light Kingdom."

Solomon shook his head. "I will not allow him to be near that Dark Kingdom," the old man shuddered. "That…Yami is too dangerous."

The young Mutou had heard everything. 'Grandpa lied to me! He just doesn't want me to go!' the boy held back tears and glared at his grandfather.

"I'm going whether you like it or not! I don't car if it's 'too dangerous' ! I'll be fine!"

Solomon was startled at his grandson's outburst but saw they grins on Tea's and Duke's faces. He sighed in surrender, giving his grandson the 'Okay'. Yugi gave a silent cheer and ran upstairs, the two vampires following. Duke helped pack all of his clothes, chains, and so on.

Tea just grabbed a few personal items and put them in with the other stuff.

When the three had finished they headed back down the stairs. Yugi gave his grandfather a hug and left with Tea and Duke.

It took about an hour or two to get to the Light Kingdom. The youth was amazed at how people treated him there. They were all friendly and seemed completely willing to help him. He couldn't believe he owned this place; it was huge! Tea, who was in front of him, stopped when they reached the castle gates. She smiled sadly at Yugi.

"Well, I hope we'll see you around. We aren't allowed inside…"

Yugi frowned. "Oh. What do I do once I get inside?"

Duke thought for a second. "Tell one of the guards who you are and they'll handle the rest."

" One more question! If you guys are from the Dark Kingdom; why did you help me?"

The two told him they wished to be his friends. He just grinned and said they already were. The vampires laughed and left. Oh yeah, what a great place to leave him. Couldn't the two stay until they told a guard who he was or something?
