Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Lives of Magic, Lives of Death ❯ Ranna ( Chapter 1 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

A/N: this is technically a crossover between Sabriel by Garth Nix and YGO. For those of you who haven't read Sabriel, I've included a list of what all of the bells do. OK?

Disclaimers: I don't own YGO or the ideas taken from Sabriel . They belong to Kazuki Takahashi and Garth Nix, respectively.

Bells in order from smallest to largest:

Ranna : also known as the sleepbringer--leaves silence after it's rung

Mosrael : a loud bell known as the waker--throws the ringer further into Death while bringing the listener into Life

Kibeth : a bell that sounds like several all at once--gives freedom of movement to the Dead, or walks them to the next gate (my favorite bell!)

Dyrim : the voice that the Dead often lose--can also make a chatterbox shut up

Belgaer : restores independant thought and/or memory to the Dead. Can also erase them in the wrong hands

Saraneth : binds the Dead to the wielder's will

Astarael : when properly rung, casts everyone (including the ringer) far into Death

Lives of Magic, Lives of Death
Chapter 1: Ranna

Yugi shot up from his sleep in a cold sweat. His Yami couldn't understand what he went through every night, could he? Yami said he had dreams, but they were often confined to memories of the past. Glancing at the alarm clock, Yugi wondered why he didn't get up earlier. Even during summer vacation, he got up around the same time the sun came up.
//Aibou, something's wrong...// Yami told his lighter half through Soul Link.
"You're just being paranoid, Yami..." Yugi mumbled, still half-asleep.
Silence followed this statement, and Yugi took the time to brush his teeth, which felt like they were growing fur from not brushing them last night. After carefully checking them in the mirror to make sure there wasn't anything on them, he got ready to take a nice, long bath. Whether or not Yami chose to join him was a different matter.
As Yugi expected, though, Yami appeared in his material body. "Aibou, please listen to me just this once. There's something wrong in Death..." Yami said, slipping into the hot water next to Yugi.
"What are you talking about?" Yugi asked, laying his head on Yami's shoulder and wishing he were asleep again.
"At the First Gate, I've seen someone walking around, someone who can go through all but the Ninth Gate of Death..." Yami continued talking, but Yugi couldn't hear him anymore.
Yugi started to feel cold, and saw his surroundings change from the bright, colorful world he knew to the bleak, cold and gray world he saw in his dreams. He remembered the horrible monster he saw, engulfed in flame, and prayed that he didn't see it now. Looking around for a way out, he felt Yami nearby. "Aibou! How did you get here?"
"I dunno. Things just sorta faded out, and then I was here... Where is here, anyway, Yami?" Yugi asked, feeling colder by the second.
"I'll tell you as soon as we get back. Come here, Yugi," Yami wrapped his arms around his hikari, and when Yugi opened his eyes again, he was back in the bath.
"Yami...." Yugi started.
"I'll tell you later, now how long have you been able to go there?" Yami asked, feeling Yugi's forehead.
"I've been going there in my dreams for about a month now... Once I saw some weird creature that seemed to be nothing but fire..." Yugi trailed off, shivering at the thought.
"A Mordicant... Oh, Ra, aibou, you're lucky. Did it see you?" Yami hugged onto Yugi even more tightly.
"I... I don't think so. Yami, what was that place?"
"It is where I technically reside--Death..." Yami answered slowly.

MR: yes, I know it's short, but it's all I'm gonna do for now, okies? if you peeps request it, I could add on to the tools of a necromancer besides just the bells.... ^^ then I'd have to give them all names and what they do, though...>.< suggestions, anyone??
