Lonesome
Chapter Two
Mokuba Notices Things
Two weeks had passed since Amita started working with Seto. They grew close and he eventually trusted her judgment completely. She was waiting outside her car and reading a book when Mokuba exited the school, the principal pulling him by his ear. "Mokuba!" She exclaimed. Amita rushed forward. "Ma'am I must insist you unhand my charge immediately!"
The principal looked Amita up and down. "You're the, pardon my words, but these have been used by Mokuba to describe you, you're the 'hot babe' his brother hired?"
Amita's cheeks reddened and she glared at Mokuba. "Have you been talking about me like that Mokuba?" He nodded. She turned back to the principal. "I really appreciate your bringing this to my attention Ma'am. Has he been saying anything else?"
The principal nodded. "Yes, he has. He's said that he wants his brother to 'do it to you properly,' and that if he doesn't he will 'sure as hell rock your world instead.' That's all I heard him telling his friends who have seemed extra cocky lately. This is not what we like students talking about and I thought you should know." The principal released Mokuba who cowered at the daggers Amita was glaring at him with.
Amita then straightened her shoulders, put her hands on her hips, and let the words fly. "HOW DARE YOU TALK ABOUT ME LIKE THAT!? AND IN SCHOOL TOO! YOU OUGHT TO BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF MOKUBA! IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T NOTICED, WOMEN ARE NOT OBJECTS FOR YOU TO OGLE AT AND THEN SPREAD RUMORS ABOUT! I HAVE HALF A MIND TO FLOG YOU HERE AND NOW BUT I THINK YOUR BROTHER WOULD LIKE TO DO THIS PERSONALLY!" She turned to Mokuba's principal who seemed quite pleased with Mokuba's being yelled at. "Thank you Ma'am. I will see to it that his brother is alerted of his perverseness and takes the action to correct his misbehavior. Feel free to leave a message at my office if this continues." She handed the principal her card and yanked Mokuba's hand. "Get in the car," she said in a stiff firm voice. Mokuba got in without saying a word and Amita ignored him all the way to Kaiba Corp. Once there she grasped a fistful of his shirt and led him upstairs to his brother's office. She knocked on the door.
"Come in," came Seto's voice.
"Wait here," she commanded and walked inside the office alone.
"Yes, what is it Amita?" Seto asked.
"Seto. It seems Mokuba had a little trouble at school today."
Seto's back straightened and his eyes narrowed. "What did he do?"
Amita told him what the principal had said and when Seto dismissed her and told her to send Mokuba in she walked out without so much as a glance at him. She merely said, "Your brother will talk to you now." Mokuba looked sad and frightened at the same time. Amita took a seat outside the office door and waited. She heard Seto's strong voice grow louder and more commanding but never yelling like she had. She couldn't make out the words but she knew Mokuba was sorry for his actions. After twenty minutes the door opened. Amita stood and Mokuba walked around to stand in front of her.
He bowed as low as he could and said, "Amita. I beg your forgiveness for my childish perverseness. I hope you can forgive me and accept my sincerest apology. I will never say such things again and will understand if you refuse to care for me anymore."
A soft smile crossed Amita's lips. There had been a hint of Seto in Mokuba's words. She knew that the line about her quitting and not caring for Mokuba was something Seto told him to say. "I accept your apology Mokuba."
Mokuba rose from his bow and hugged Amita. When he pulled away he said, "Seto wants to see you again." Amita nodded and watched as Mokuba walked away, walking a little funny as if his rear end was bothering him. She smirked; knowing a flogging really was what he had needed.
She walked into the office once more and closed the door. "Mokuba said you wished to see me again Seto."
Seto nodded. "Please take a seat." Amita sat as instructed. "I am really sorry about what happened today Amita. Mokuba had no right to say such things about you. Especially not such a high-morale woman of your respective stature. I can assure you, he will never utter such foul things again."
Amita smiled at her former lover. "Thank you very much Seto. I appreciate this. I just never expected Mokuba capable of saying such things."
Seto nodded. "Neither did I. I also wanted to tell you that you handled the whole ordeal wonderfully and I'm sure that if he ever strays out of line, you can frighten him back to conformity just as well as I can. I also wanted to ask if you would join us for dinner. I feel horrible about my brother's behavior and wish to make it up to you. I do not think that a mere apology is enough."
Amita smiled. "I would love that Seto. What time should I be there?"
Seto returned her smile. "Be there around six-thirty."
Amita agreed to the time and went home to change into appropriate attire. She wore a long flowing black dress that clung to the top half of her torso and had slits that went about halfway up the thigh on either leg. The neckline was V shaped and just showed off the top of her cleavage, and it had a halter style strap around her neck. She wanted to dress to kill and maybe spark some memory in Seto. After selecting matching heels she was off. She had not bothered with make up and had merely run a brush through her hair. When she walked into the mansion she felt Seto's eyes creep along the curves of her body and had an arrogant smirk on her lips when Seto's eyes finally met hers once more. He matched that smirk with one of his own and offered her his arm. She took it and he led her into the dining hall. Seto pulled out Amita's chair and pushed it back in when she sat. He then took a seat across from her and next to Mokuba. Then, the butlers began to bring out the first course.
Amita breathed in deeply in awe at the sight of the lavishly prepared meal before her. "Wow," she said simply. Mokuba began to laugh but stopped when he received a glare from Seto. They talked and ate and soon after the second course, Seto had the wine brought out. Mokuba was allowed a small sip while Seto and Amita toasted to the new partnership Seto was working on. After several minutes of conversation Mokuba grew restless.
"Come on you guys," he said, then rolled his eyes when they glanced curiously his way. "I'm not dumb. I can sense the sexual tension in this room." Amita choked on the wine that she had been in the process of drinking and nearly spit it on to her plate.
Seto glared at Mokuba and said, "Mokuba. I had no idea you were becoming a masochist and wanted another lashing so early in the evening."
Mokuba flinched, remembering only too well what his first flogging had felt like. "Seto. I meant no disrespect. I just meant that I know you like Amita, and Amita, I know you like Seto so I was just saying how it's ridiculous that neither of you have said anything yet."
Amita smiled at her plate, marveling at how perceptive Mokuba was. He just wasn't perceptive enough. If he had been then he would have remembered her and told Seto who in turn would remember her and then would confront her. She knew Seto well enough to know that he never beats around the bush about anything. Mokuba gazed up at the reprimanding stare his older brother was giving him. "May I please be excused?" He asked. Seto nodded and Mokuba retreated to his room, knowing that phase one of operation Seto and Assistant Get Together was almost completed.
Amita felt the hotness rising from her neck and into her face as Seto stared at her to see what she would do. All the sound that filled the room was the chinking of silverware on fine china. Finally Seto broke the silence, "I am once more, sorry for my brother's distastefulness. I have no idea what's gotten into him lately."
Feeling herself calming she looked up, smiling. "It's quite all right Seto. He is nearing his teenage years and this sort of thing is bound to happen."
Seto shook his head in disagreement. "I never treated women with such disrespect."
No he didn't, she thought. He had always treated her with respect and as far as she knew, he had never spread any rumors about the two of them.
He smiled at her as the remnants of the dinner were cleared away. "Would you like to go for a walk through our garden? It's quite peaceful."
Amita returned his warm smile with one of her own, "That sounds absolutely lovely." He came around the table and pulled out her chair once more. He then offered her his arm and led her outside to the garden. "It's beautiful out here Seto," she said softly.
Seto nodded in agreement. "Yes it is. I find it particularly nice when one needs to escape the hassles of the city life."
Amita smiled and let him lead her around, neither saying anything. In the silence Amita found herself drifting off into a daydream, but did nothing to stop it.
She was sitting by a fountain in the park when he ran up to her holding two ice cream cones. "Here you go," he said, offering her the strawberry one.
"Thanks," she said. He sat next to her and looked over at his younger brother, who was running around with some local kids. She smiled at the look on his face. "He'll be all right. He's just being a kid."
He turned to face her, a sad smile on his lips. "I know," he said. "You're his babysitter though and it should be me watching him. I hardly have time for him because of our stepfather."
She placed her free hand over his. "He just wants you to be successful. And besides, your all that you brother will talk about. He really looks up to you."
He nodded and gently squeezed her hand. He then leaned in for a gentle kiss on her lips, before pulling away with a look of admiration and love on his face. "You keep me grounded Amita," he said, brushing a loose lock of hair from her face.
Smiling, she rested her head on his shoulder. "You keep me happy Seto." He wrapped an arm around her shoulders and they watched as his little brother played.
Amita sighed and Seto looked over at her. "What is it," he asked, breaking her reverie.
Suddenly aware that her head was on his shoulder now and her hand in his she pulled away, "I'm sorry Seto. I was just thinking about something."
Seto pulled her towards him as she just realized his arm was around her shoulders like they had been in the memory. "It's okay Amita." Then unexpectedly he leaned down and gently brushed his lips against hers. She let out a soft moan and he held her to him, slowly deepening the kiss and she opened her mouth on instinct. He slipped in his tongue and caressed hers with his. Then he broke the kiss and slowly pulled away. When their eyes met at first he was smiling and then he frowned. "What's wrong?" He asked. Only then did she realize the tears pouring down her cheeks.
