Black Magic Maiden

"Bakura, may I speak with you?" Yami said, catching the young lord, as they walked down the hall.

"What of Yami?" Bakura asked, even though he knew what of.

"Your slave the new o-", Yami started but Bakura waved him off.

"Yes, it seems the Pharaoh had quite a wild streak a day or so ago", Bakura said with amusement.

"Perhaps, but that is irrelevant", Yami said with somewhat of a smirk on, it was good to have power sometimes. You could act like a kid and get away with it.

"Then what is Yami?" Bakura said, returning to the issue at hand.

"I thought perhaps, since Avari has had trouble fitting in, that maybe you should supply her with her own monster guardian, she has quite a few enemies and all of Seto's have dual protectors" Yami said coyly.

"Perhaps you can bring her for the annual choosing ceremony tomorrow"; the Pharaoh said walking away casually.

Yami knew his plan had worked and Avari would be present for tomorrow's dual monster choosing ceremony. It was held every year where the servants got to have duel monster, to amuse themselves and the Lords, in competitions and every day fights, not to mention they were great companions.

Bakura would not let himself be outdone by Seto, and Yami knew it going into the conversation.

The Pharaoh was truly a cunning fox.

Avari ran down the hallway with as much speed as she could muster.

"Damn it!" she said as she sprinted down the mahogany halls, she was late for the ceremony!

She was running and she slipped on the newly cleaned hard wood floors. She fell face first and in doing so she ripped her white skirt up to her thigh. She cursed again and got up, and continued to run.

She got to the doors and she braked, but instead of stopping, she fell and slid right past the double doors and into the main hall where every one including all the Lords, where waiting her.

She wanted to crawl in a hole and die, everyone was sitting there watching her as she got up and smoothed the invisible wrinkles of her skirt, as a cute blush spread to her now childlike face.

Yami's face wrinkled in extreme pleasure as he wished he could go down and kiss her innocent little frown into a seduced smile.

//Did you have a midnight tryst? // Yami said to her in his mind.

//Sure, your lucky I got my shirt on // she said mentally back to him sarcasm dripping from her telepathic voice.

//Smart Alec… I like that// he returned.

// Your going to like me a whole lot when I stick my foot up your-//, she quit as she noticed that he could hear everything she was saying in her subconscious.

// This is my mind get out! // She screamed at him.

He smirked, and then commanded the full attention of the chattering and laughing crowd.

" Quite", he said with all the authority the Pharaoh possessed.

"Let us begin the ceremony", he commanded waving towards the table in front of her, which had cards on the table.

At this the Dark Magician at his side rose and that commanded attention in itself. All the Lords had guardians/duel monsters.

Seto for example had the Blue Eyes in the room (showing how huge the room was), and Bakura her own lord had the mighty Puppet Master.

"Avari, servant to lord Bakura, we would like to have a guardian Duel Monster, for protection, and also because lord Bakura has offered a slot for scribe work", Yami continued.

Avari's eyes about popped out of her head. SHE WAS GOING TO GET A DUEL GUARDIAN, AND BE A SCRIBE?!

"You will have training on how to read and write the scripture" Bakura continued on.

"My lord, I would like to express my deepest thanks, and gratitude for both the guardian and the position…but I already know how to read and write the scriptures", she said with a bow.

" Do not lie you lowly slave, you can not read and write Egyptian! That is impossible!", Seto cried out standing up.

"I shall prove it to you Lord", she said coldly.

Seto clapped and two slaves who proved to be none other than Marik and Ryou, came to her with enormous smiles, as they handed her a tablet with writing on it to her.

Without any hesitation she read it aloud, perfectly and left everyone in amazement except the Pharaoh who knew she was intelligent. Then Seto was infuriated at being proven wrong.

"Then prove you can write", he demanded furiously.

Marik and Ryou then handed her parchment and a writing brush. She raised an eyebrow and began to write heatedly.

//Don't do it Avari// Yami said to her telepathically, warning her not to write anything horrible about Seto, along the lines of being an asshole.

She nodded and then wrote gracefully along the parchment and then she walked defiantly up to Seto and handed him the paper, having perfectly valid and legitimate Egyptian characters.

All the while this was going on, Malik was staring at Avari eyes glazed with want, of her. Malik was somewhat of the slut of the Palace and since the Pharaho and Bakura wanted her, then he wanted her even more. Brains Beauty, not to mention she was making Seto's blood boil, was even more likeable.

Seto looked over the tablet carefully, making sure that she was correct. He then shoved it towards her and sat down. His blue eyes roared, sensing his master's wrath. She just gave the great beast one look and he was silenced.

"You have proven yourself a very intelligent servant and worthy of Bakura's house, now may we get on with the choosing?", Yami said bored with Seto's irrelevant antics.

"Step up to the table", he said to her rising out of his throne once again.

She bowed to him and then went to the table and blinked at him, she had no idea of what was going on, so she was relying on the Pharaoh.

"Place your hands over the cards Avari", he said.

She did so and nothing happened.

//Let the heart of the cards flow within you//, Yami guided.

She did so and then something amazing happened. When most slaves came to the table and picked the cards slightly glowed but that was it. But with Avari, it was very different.

The cards began to glow, then they shinned with unbridled light, then began to levitate in the air. They flew around in the air, and then her eyes began to glow golden, and then a single, card came forth and the others died down.

She raised her hand to the card and touched it, her glowing golden eyes fading. Everyone gasped at this intense feeling rushed over everyone, as she bonded with her monster, The Dark Elf.

The pharaoh's eyes widened as he saw her monster literally step out of the card and touched her hand, lights shinning around those two.

How did this slave get the power to summon such a powerful monster to her and bond with it?
