Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Losing Grip ❯ Alone ( Chapter 1 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Destiny: ¡Hola, mis amigos! ¿Cómo están? I started this fic awhile ago, and I made some changes, then reposted it. It took me quite a while, so I hope anybody who reads it likes it! But if you already read it, you probably don't want to read it again, b/c it's essentially the same, I just changed some of the language I used. However, feel free to review again! ^_^U, cuz I put a lot of time and effort into it; it took me a looooooooong time to write. . .

Mackenzie: It sure did!

Destiny: Shuddup. I know I'm pathetic, don't rub it in. Neways, I used Avril Lavigne's song called, "Losing Grip" to describe Anzu's (English name: Téa; but I didn't wanna use her English name b/c I'm too lazy to put the accent on the 'e' every time) feelings about her breakup w/ Seto. This is a one-shot ficcie, but 10 people review and say I should continue it, I probably will. (It used to be 20 but I changed it to 10). However, the later chapters probably won't all be in songfic form, b/c I quite honestly don't know a lot of songs. If I continue, and people want the story to be in songfic form, I'll need people to recommend me songs to go with the piece. Anyone who would like to recommend a song can email me; my email is on my profile. Also, I probably need a lot of help in writing a romance, b/c I've never done it before; so I welcome constructive criticism, as long as there is not swearing or profanity included in reviews. Thankies!!!

Mackenzie: -_-U You done?

Destiny: Yeah. . .Okay, on with my first romance ever!!!

Mackenzie: You forgot the Disclaimer. -_-

Destiny: ^_^U That's right! *sweatdrop* Thank you, Mack. Would you like to do the honours, or shall I?

Mackenzie: I'll do it. Destiny doesn't own Yu-Gi-Oh! or the characters from it; she doesn't own the lyrics to Avril Lavigne's song, "Losing Grip," either.

Destiny: In addition, this is your 'key' to the story:

"Speaking"

'Thinking'

**song lyrics**

Mackenzie: Enjoy!!

~Chapter 1: Alone~

~*~

Anzu sighed as she gazed through the window, watching the rain pour outside. The dark, gloomy clouds in the sky reflected the melancholy that she still felt, even though it had been over a week since her former boyfriend, Seto Kaiba, had declared that they should no longer see each other.

~*~

**Are you aware

Of what you make me feel?

Baby. . .**

~*~

He hadn't even had the decency to break up with her face-to-face. He'd dumped her OVER THE PHONE.

~*~

**Right now I feel

Invisible to you,

Like I'm not real**

~*~

Anzu leaned against the window as she involuntarily let out a sob, hating the tears that streamed down her face. 'What did I do wrong?' she wondered. 'Why doesn't he like me anymore?'

~*~

**Didn't you feel me lock

My arms around you?

Why'd you turn away?

Is what I have to say. . .**

~*~

She merely sat there, hunched over in a fetal position, weeping. Anzu tried to put a stop to her own blubbering, but it was of no use; she continued to bawl like a child.

~*~

**I was left to cry there

Waiting outside there

Grinning with a lost stare**

~*~

Anzu stared through the window once more. 'Seto and I had been going out for three and a half years. . .then he dumped me. Like a piece of trash,' Anzu thought bitterly. 'And he didn't even have the courtesy to explain. What kind of person DOES that?'

~*~

**That's when I decided. . .

Why should I care?

'Cause you weren't there

When I was scared.

I was so alone**

~*~

Anzu finally stood, striding across the room. She entered the kitchen, seizing the phone as she went. Using her long, slender fingers, she dialed Seto's personal phone number, knowing she'd never get through to him on his work number.

Seto picked up on the second ring. "Kaiba speaking," he stated, his voice flat.

"Hi, Seto," Anzu greeted him, her voice soft. "It's Anzu. How are you?"

"Fine," he replied coldly. "What do you want? I'm busy."

"Seto, I've been doing some thinking," she responded slowly, hoping to annoy him with her lack of haste.

"Yes?" he asked impatiently.

"Well," she continued, "you didn't give me a reason when we broke up. I mean, I'd think you'd be considerate enough to EXPLAIN why you wanted to break up."

There was utter silence on Seto's end of the line. However, Anzu could hear Seto's gentle breathing.

"Seto? Are you listening to me?"

~*~

**You. . .you need to listen**

~*~

"Yes."

There was silence again.

~*~

**I'm startin' to trip

I'm losing my grip**

~*~

"Is there someplace we can meet?" Anzu inquired.

"Anzu, I really have a lot of work to do. I don't have time for this. . ."

"No," she replied firmly. "I think I at least deserve a face-to-face justification on your behavior, Seto."

"Fine," he snapped. "I'll meet you at the coffee shop on 53 West Street in ten minutes. If you're not there, I'm leaving."

"All right," Anzu agreed. Before replacing the receiver, she heard a soft click; the line went dead. Once more there was complete silence. She walked back into her empty living room, and threw on her raincoat. She stepped outside into the teeming rain, and strolled towards the coffee shop near her house.

Even though Domino City was usually busy, the streets were oddly still. There was no one within sight distance; there were no cars, people, or any signs of life anywhere.

At last Anzu reached the empty coffee shop. The door was open, but the cashier was nowhere to be seen. But that didn't matter. Seto had not arrived yet.

'I wish my friends were here to support me,' Anzu thought. 'To give me the strength and courage I need to face Seto.' (A/N: Classic Téa thought, right? Lolz)

~*~

**And I'm in this thing alone**

~*~

Finally, Seto Kaiba, the CEO of KaibaCorp, arrived at the coffee house. He sauntered in, his icy blue eyes sweeping the area, concluding by resting his eyes on Anzu.

"Hi, Seto," Anzu spoke timidly.

"Good afternoon," he grunted in reply.

The room then became still. Anzu stared at her feet, while Seto continued to glare at her.

"So, um. . .are you going to tell me what you came here to tell me?" Anzu mumbled.

"Look, Anzu, I really didn't mean to hurt you. . ." Seto began.

"So, why did you have to dump me over the freakin' phone?" she cried.

"Calm down-"

"Calm down? Calm DOWN?!" she thundered. "Why is it so hard for you to tell me why you don't like me anymore? Why is it so difficult for you to say why you don't want to go out with me, after we were together for three and a half years? Why," she paused, taking a shuddering breath, "is it so awkward for you to express your feelings?"

~*~

**Am I just some chick

You placed beside you,

To take somebody's place?**

~*~

"I'm sorry, but I can't offer you the explanation that you're searching for," Seto stated bluntly.

"What do you mean, you 'can't offer the explanation' that I'm looking for?" Anzu shrieked. "Then why the HELL did you come here if you weren't even going to answer my question?"

~*~

**When you turn around,

Can you recognize my face?**

~*~

"I came here because I want to show you respect," he explained.

"Then why can't you just TELL me why you broke up with me?"

Seto sighed. He looked really tired, fatigued; he just looked worn from stress and life in general. "Anzu, I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but I don't love you anymore."

Anzu suddenly became quiet. After minutes of absolute peace in the room, Anzu spoke again. "Why?"

~*~

**You used to love me

You used to hug me;

Why'd you turn away?

Everything wasn't okay. . .**

~*~

Anzu burst into tears. She started to sob once again; the tears that she thought were gone came back again, causing her to weep uncontrollably.

~*~

**I was left to cry there

Waiting outside there

Grinning with a lost stare**

~*~

All of a sudden, Anzu charged at Seto, her fist flailing wildly. She pounded on his chest, wanting, CRAVING to wound him. YEARNING to hurt him the way that he'd hurt her.

~*~

**That's when I decided. . .

Why should I care?

'Cause you weren't there

When I was scared.

I was so alone**

~*~

Anzu continued to strike Seto with her greatest strength, but the beating had no effect on the taller, stronger man.

~*~

**You. . .you need to listen

I'm startin' to trip

I'm losing my grip

And I'm in this thing alone**

~*~

Anzu tried to hammer his face with no success. Seto caught Anzu by the wrists, ceasing her movement. She struggled to free herself, but Seto was too powerful. Her attempts to harm him were futile.

At last Anzu collapsed onto the floor, bawling. Her weeping caused her shoulders to tremble; she curled up once more into a ball, clutching her knees for support.

~*~

**Crying out loud

I'm crying out loud

Crying out loud

I'm crying out loud**

~*~

"Anzu, I'm really sorry about this."

Anzu's frame continued to quiver. Her immense blue eyes were bloodshot, and her face was stained with tears.

"Do you want me to find you another boyfriend?" Seto asked hopefully, putting a comforting arm on her shoulder. "To replace me?"

Anzu shoved Seto away, causing him to topple backwards. "Find me another boyfriend?! Can't you see that I haven't even recovered yet, you cold-hearted bastard?! It's not that easy to not care about someone you love, especially when you HAVE a heart!" she screeched.

~*~

**Open your eyes

Open up wide**

~*~

Anzu finally stood, putting her hands on her hips. "I can't believe you, Seto," she stated, her voice numb. "You've become cold again, like you were before. You've lost your heart. You need to show people respect, whether you like them or not."

~*~

**Why should I care?

'Cause you weren't there

When I was scared

I was so alone**

~*~

"I can't believe you could just stop caring about me, after all we've been through. After all we've done together."

**You. . .you need to listen**

"Do you even give a damn about my feelings? Did you ever care?"

Seto was quiet for a moment, as if in deep thought. "I DID care about you, Anzu. But not anymore, not like I used to. Once again, I'm sorry," Seto told her as he exited the coffee shop.

~*~

**I'm startin' to trip

I'm losing my grip**

~*~

Anzu, yet again, stood all alone.

~*~

**And I'm in this thing alone**
