Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Losing Grip ❯ Love Will Come To You ( Chapter 2 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Destiny: Hey, I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!! I got inspired by a song I thought of, so here is Chapter 2 of "Losing Grip"!!!

Mackenzie: It only took you like a month to find a stupid song!

Destiny: ^_^U Well. . . *sweatdrops* . . .um. . .I'm not very active in the music world, ok?

Mackenzie: -_- Whatever. Get on with the story.

Destiny: Ok! Neways, I don't own YGO (YET! Lol) and I don't own the lyrics to the Indigo Girls' song, "Love Will Come To You." And here's the key to this chapter and future chapters, since this chapter is gonna have mainly a big flashback to how Seto and Anzu got together.

"Speaking"

'Thinking'

~Flashbacks~

**song lyrics**

In addition, the yamis and hikaris share a body still in this fic. In the narrative part, I will refer to them as follows:

Yami=Yami Yugi

Yugi=Yugi Muto

Bakura=Yami Bakura

Ryou=Bakura Ryou

However, when Yugi is addressed by another character in the dialogue, he will be referred to as "Yugi," whether Yami has taken over or not. When Ryou is addressed, he will be addressed by other characters as "Bakura," regardless of whether or not Bakura has taken over. Ok, enough of my babbling, let's get on with the story. . .

Mackenzie: Aren't you forgetting something?

Destiny: Huh? *sweatdrop*

Mackenzie: -_- I mean, you DO want to thank your reviewers for the first chapter, right?

Destiny: Hehe. . .*sweatdrop*. . .oh, yeah. . .^_^U. . .I DO want to thank the following reviewers for reviewing Chapter 1: Misura, Silver Mist4, Mystical Miyuki, Alexalon, and Dark Spirit Sage. I only got five reviews, but then I got some ideas, so I could continue with this chapter. However, this story probably won't be updated as frequently as my other ones.

Mackenzie: Be sure to read Destiny's other stories:

"Somehow, I've Always Known," if you like supernatural/suspense/mystery kinda stuff. . . .

"Tomorrow," if you like angst/mystery

"Too Much To Ask," if you like romance/angst

Losing Grip

Chapter 2: Love Will Come To You

Anzu once again walked out into the pouring rain; the sky was crying tears of sympathy. 'I just want to go home,' Anzu thought, tears mingling with the drops of water from the sky.

When Anzu reached her home, she slipped out of her raincoat and cast it aside onto the floor, as if it were a worthless piece of trash. 'Exactly how I feel.'

She collapsed onto the couch, closing her eyes, causing her to shed more tears. 'I can't believe this is happening to me. Boy, do I wish my friends were here to help me. . .'

"Why did Seto break up with me?" she pondered, voicing her thoughts. "How could he not love me anymore--just like that?"

Anzu stretched herself across the couch, her tense muscles relaxing slightly. "We were so in love. . .Gosh, I can remember how I was swooning over him for MONTHS before we finally started going out. . .I remember," she continued, stifling a sob, "when he first asked me out. . .our first date. . .our first kiss. . ."

~It was another day at Domino High, and Anzu was seated at her favorite tree, reading a romance novel called, "Love At First Sight." [1] Well, to be frank, she wasn't completely focused on the beautifully written novel. In fact, her mind was wandering; it was preoccupied with her object of affection. It was so preoccupied, that she didn't even respond when her friends approached her.

"Hey Anzu!" Yugi cried cheerfully. "How was your weekend?"

There was silence. Anzu remained seated, her eyes staring through the book in front of her.

"Anzu? You okay?" Yugi asked.

"Earth ta Anzu," Joey chimed in. Anzu still did not respond.

'I think I really may be in love,' Anzu realized after flipping through her book. 'I mean, I've had crushes before, but I've never felt emotion this strong about anyone. . .'

Anzu frowned, her eyebrows furrowing. 'But I'm not sure he feels the same way about me. . .'

"YO, ANZU, WAKE UP ALREADY!" Tristan yelled, pouncing on her.

"Ahhhh!" Anzu reached up to shield herself, causing Tristan to ricochet off of her hands.

"Welcome back ta Earth, Anzu," Joey remarked. "Geeze, we thought ya died wit your eyes open or somethin, 'specially considerin ya didn't respond when I said dat ya were a girly-girl, practically faintin ova da sight of your crush."

"What are you talking about?" Anzu demanded. "I never said I had a crush on anyone."

"Well, it's pretty obvious, isn't it?" Joey responded. "I mean, every time I see Kaiba pass by, you fall into dis dreamy-like phase, and ya don't come out till someone's yellin at ya."

"Whatever," Anzu muttered angrily. Her secret was out. She couldn't hide it any longer.

"I still don't know what ya see in that creep. . ." Joey grumbled. "He's a total jerk; you deserve betta than Kaiba, Anzu."

"Shhh!!" Anzu leapt up to quiet him, her hand covering his mouth. "He's coming, you idiot! Pretend like we're in deep conversation, like he's not there."

"Isn't that what we WERE doin'?" he shot back, groaning inwardly.

"So. . .Anzu," Ryou began, attempting to change the subject. "What's that book you're reading?"

"Um. . . . 'Love At First Sight'," she replied sheepishly. "It's actually very interesting."

~*~

**I guess I wasn't

The best one to ask**

~*~

"Well," responded Ryou thoughtfully, "isn't it a tad difficult to read the book upside-down?"

~*~

**Me, myself with my face

Pressed against love's glass**

~*~

"What? I'm not--" Anzu threw a glance down at the book in her hand. "Oh," was all she uttered, her cheeks turning a flaming red.

"Well, well, well," sneered a deep, masculine voice. Anzu's heart leapt at the sound she'd grown accustomed to in her mind, dreams, and reality. Not only had she memorized the tone quality of the voice, but also she'd come to worship the sound of its rich texture.

"What da ya want, Kaiba?" Joey demanded, whirling around. "Why don't ya just leave us alone for once? We don't want trouble. But I guess you seem ta like my knuckle sandwiches; I'll be glad ta give ya some."

"Get a grip on reality, Wheeler," Kaiba snarled. "I could take you on even in your pathetic sister's condition."

Joey growled, his body trembling with rage. Kaiba smirked, knowing he'd touched a nerve. Joey's sister, Serenity, had been slowly going blind over the past year. The deterioration if her retina was progressing rapidly. She was expected to become completely blind within the next three months.

Suddenly, Joey lunged at Kaiba, his fist thrashing wildly. Kaiba effortlessly blocked every attack, countered every strike, and sent Joey sprawling backwards, his body slamming into the tree. Yugi, Ryou, and Tristan rushed over towards Joey, helping him stand. Joey leaned forward, coughing. Blood seeped from his nose as he spit out additional blood that was flooding from his mouth.

"I guess you don't have much of a knuckle sandwich, now do you, Mutt?" Kaiba scoffed.

"Kaiba, you had no right to hurt Joey like that!" Anzu shouted angrily.

"The mutt attacked me," he stated plainly, his eyes boring into her. "I had to defend myself."

Anzu froze. She stood there stupidly, completely silent. Her brain activity came to a halt, and her mouth couldn't form words. 'Why does he always make me feel like this?' she wondered.

Anzu stared up into Kaiba's eyes, their gazes locking. 'He has such beautiful eyes, but they're always frozen over with that cold hatred.'

The two stood there, and time seemed to stretch eternally, their eyes not moving from each other's.

'But now. . .the coldness. . .the hatred. . .it's gone,' Anzu realized. 'His eyes. . .they're so warm. . .and filled with light and happiness.'

~*~

**To see the shiny toy

I've been hoping for**

~*~

A soft smile lit Kaiba's features, his eyes brightening further.

'A smile. . .' Anzu pondered. 'I've never seen him smile before. . .is he smiling. . .because of me. . .?'

Kaiba's smile abruptly faded, his eyes turning into blocks of ice once more. Anzu frowned. 'Did he really just smile or was I imagining it?'

"Anzu, it's rude to stare at people," Kaiba remarked, snickering. "Enough people stare at me already; I'd rather only one person would gawk at me than one thousand." Kaiba slowly turned away, and strode towards the school building.

~*~

**The one

I never could afford**

~*~

"For your information, Seto, I DON'T gawk!" Anzu hollered after him.

Kaiba halted abruptly, rotating swiftly. "What did you call me?" he demanded, his voice menacing.

Anzu's blue eyes widened in horror upon realizing her mistake. 'I can't believe I slipped and called him "Seto". . .' she mentally chided herself.

He gaped at her, his eyes full of disbelief and confusion.

~*~

**The wide world spins

And spits turmoil**

~*~

"I called you by your name," Anzu responded finally. Her voice was surprisingly calm, although her eyes held traces of fear. "I called you, 'Seto'."

Kaiba's eyes softened again, then filled with pain. "Anzu, please. . .don't call me that. . ." He averted his gaze, turning away.

~*~

** And the nations toil**

~*~

"Why not?" Anzu asked, her voice gentle.

Kaiba stopped once more, not expecting Anzu's inquiry.

"Why must I call you by your surname?"

"Do you truly want to know?"

"Yes," Anzu responded, her voice confident.

Kaiba looked taken aback, nevertheless motioned for her to follow. With the flick of his trench coat, he strode away, with Anzu traveling behind him.

At last they reached a limo. Kaiba opened the back seat door, gesturing for Anzu to step inside. "The driver's out on a breakfast break," he explained.

"Why can't we just talk out here?" Anzu questioned, her voice suspicious.

"I don't want anyone to overhear us."

Anzu stepped inside, scooting over so Kaiba could sit next to her. Kaiba took his seat next to her, and shut the door behind him.

After a moment of silence, Kaiba finally spoke. "Did you know that my parents were dead?" he asked.

~*~

**For peace**

~*~

Anzu gasped. "Gosh, no, I didn't. I'm sorry, Seto."

Kaiba winced, as if he'd been struck. "My parents--they used to call me, 'Seto'. They died when I was very young. . ."

"That's awful."

"I hate my name," he admitted. "It means, 'turmoil'. My parents and my little brother, Mokuba, were the only people who ever called me by my first name." Kaiba sighed. "The name. . .it brings back my childhood memories. The only time I was truly happy was when my parents were alive. . ."

Anzu nodded sympathetically. "I'm sorry to hear that, Seto."

Kaiba raised his eyes once more, locking his gaze with Anzu's. "Anzu, there's something else I wanted to tell you," he confessed.

"What is it, Seto?" Her blue eyes were wide with curiosity.

Kaiba clasped onto Anzu's hand as he slowly leaned forward.

'Oh my gosh. . .is he actually going to. . .?'

She felt his hot, steamy breath flutter against her lips. Anzu felt her heart lodged up somewhere in her throat, hitching her breath.

~*~

**The pause of fear

Upon her chest**

~*~

"I think I'm in love. . .with you," he finished, before crushing his lips against hers.

~*~

**And my words

Are like paper tigers**

~*~

Anzu immediately melted against Kaiba's passionate kiss. Her lips parted slightly as she moaned into his mouth. Kaiba, seizing the opportunity, slid his tongue between her lips, exploring every millimeter of the cavern before him.

~*~

**Only love

Can sooth that beast**

~*~

Kaiba relaxed, his roaming hands caressing Anzu's shoulders. At last, after what seemed like an eternity, they broke the kiss, gasping for air.

~*~

**No match for the predator

Of pain inside her**

~*~

Anzu stared at Kaiba, half in shock, half in delight. The one she'd always been waiting for--the one she'd always been watching, had finally come to her. He had, at last, come to love her, just the way she loved him.

~*~

**I said,

Love will come to you**

~*~

Anzu smiled. And Seto, for the first time since his parents died, smiled back.~

[1] I truly have no idea if there is a book by this name (though I'm sure there is at least ONE book in the world that has the name, "Love At First Sight") but I do not claim to own it; I am merely using the name for lack of other creative ideas for book titles.
