Chapter 1: The Quest For Answers

*************************************************************** ********

Ryou, Yugi, and Malik were walking home from school one day when they heard people yelling.

"Stop them. They stole my money."

Three masked people ran past them and Malik tripped one of them.

"You little brat, I'm going to get even with you," he said as he got up and continued to run.

"Malik, what did you do that for?" Yugi asked.

"He deserved it. Since I stopped stealing cards I think it's wrong."

"I just hope you did the right thing," Ryou said.

The three of them started towards Yugi's grandfather's shop. They saw a car at the end of the road, but little did they know that what would happen would change their lives forever.

"Hey boss, that's the little creep that tripped Andre. I think that they need a lesson in manners."

"All in good time, Jacob. What do you think we should do to him?"

"Let's run them over with the limo. It won't make a bit of difference that they're gone."

"All right lets do it."

"Guys is it just me or are the people in that car acting strange," Yugi asked.

"Yugi, you're being paranoid. Stop it," Ryou said.

That was the last thing any of them said as the car speed up and collided with the three boys. Four men stepped out and checked the vitals of the boys.

"They all have weak pulses. I don't think they'll survive the hour. Why don't we just leave them."

"All right."

The men got back into the car and it took off down the road. Little did they know or see, the Millennium Items started to glow and the Yamis came out to discover the disturbances they had felt upon the impact. When they looked down at their hikaris' brushed and broken bodies they were shocked and speechless. They quickly rushed their aibous to the hospital. After what seemed like hours a doctor came in.

"Are you family members of Yugi Moto, Ryou Bakura, and Malik Ishtar," he asked.

"Yes," Yami answered.

The others nodded.

"Well the three of them are in really bad shape. They have a mass of broken bones and they are all in a coma. I'm really sorry. We're trying our best to save them. They will be entering the O.R. soon so I have to go."

With that the doctor left the Yamis to think about what he had said. Bakura and Marik had started to make friendship ties with their hikaris so it was a huge blow for them while Yami had a strong bond with Yugi that made it impossible to believe that he was hurt.

"I can't stay here in a place of despair and misery. I don't care what the two of you do, but I'm going to hunt down whoever did this," Bakura announced.

"Wait Bakura. Let me phone Yugi's grandfather, Ryou's father and Malik's sister. I'll go with you. I think their families need to be here as well as their friends to support them," Yami said.

"I'm going too," Marik said.

After a couple phone calls, the three set out on a quest to find out what happened to their aibous. Their only hope for revenge was in the here and now since if their hikaris die they go back into their Millennium items until someone else is chosen for them. With hope and strength within them they took off towards the scene of the crime for clues and their new enemy.
