Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Love at it's best ❯ Chapter 1
[ P - Pre-Teen ]
Baku: Just a one shot.
Bakura: She doesn't own us.
Yami was idly sitting in a chair, flipping through the channels, staring at the changing screen, but not really looking at it, not really caring about what was on. The refrigerator was bare, so Yugi had to go with his grandpa to the market. Ryou was tutoring kids, and Bakura had a “job.” Pfft. Mariku and Malik were screwing like bunnies, and he really didn't want to get in the middle of that. Joey was in night school, Honda was somewhere, Otogi would hit on him way too much, as would Anzu, Serenity was too shy to even consider it, Seto was working, and Mokuba never went anywhere without his brother. Mai…hell, he didn't even know where she was, but she wasn't about to spend her evening with him. He frowned, refusing to consider inviting Pegasus over for a few rounds of Duel Monsters. That would be rock bottom.
Yami turned off the TV, stood up, and walked up the carpet-covered stairs to his and Yugi's room. Part of it was painted purple, and the other part was black. Two sides were places on the edges of the room, covered in sheets matching the color of the side they were in. On the purple side were adorable little dolls, various posters of singers and bands, a poster or two of Yami himself, and pictures of their friends, while the black side was rather bare, save the posters of rock bands and Duel Monsters. On the bureau were various boxes, no doubt full of Duel Monster cards. Each box was color coded as well, signifying monsters, effect monsters, magic, traps, and the like. Yami walked to his bed, on the corner of the wall painted black, and laid down. He looked over at Yugi's side of the room. His eyes moved to the spot in front of the bureau. That very spot, Yugi had made a deck for Battle City. That was also the spot where Yami had finally gotten a chance to hold Yugi's hands, which he had taken advantage of to the fullest.
He stared at that spot in the floor for a long while. He ignored the cat meowing outside, he ignored the annoying dripping of the faucet, he ignored the wind blowing in harshly through the open window, he ignored the door being moved by the wind with a creak, and he ignored all of time and space, giving his full attention to that one spot. Had Battle City really been that long ago? 2 years…it had been two years since he held Yugi's hand? 3 since he held Yugi in his arms during his final duel with Pegasus? 4 since he met Yugi, and had beaten Ushio for him? And for an entire year, he was unknown to the angel. Had he really known Yugi so long? This was his final year at the Kame shop….he was going onto college. Would Yugi leave him behind? Come the end of September, Yugi was heading to his future. In America, no less. He was accepted into Harvard University. They were all going their separate ways, and Yami was being left behind. Ryou and Bakura were going into Tokyo U. Ryou would take the classes, and Bakura would be his body guard, and roommate. He refused lessons, saying that stealing was his life profession. Malik began his own business, run by himself and Mariku. It was a modeling agency, and doing very well with its top two models, Mariku and Malik, of course.
Otogi was doing well with DDM, and was noticed in America, where another gaming company, the Sony industry, was planning to make it a video game. He had agreed, and has been in America since, living quite well. Honda learned how to be an engineer, and has been working with Joey, deciding that education was far beneath them. Serenity continued her education, living with her brother instead of her mom. With Joey's income, they were both living well. Joey was even able to pay off his father's debts. Anzu was accepted into a high profile dancing school, and is well on her way to becoming the next biggest pop star in Japan. Mai became the third best model in Malik's company, and was also releasing her own line of fashion products. Seto continued to work in Kaiba Corp, but had softened a great deal. He was more compassionate, and was more successful than ever with his change of heart. Mokuba was allowed to pursue his dream, as long as he continued his education. His band was still doing really well. Yugi was going for law in Harvard, and Yami was just there. The King of Games couldn't figure out this problem. Perhaps…perhaps he should tell Yugi how he felt. The end of September was only a week away.
Yami was so focused on his thoughts, that his mind barrier fell, exposing Yugi to feelings he never thought Yami knew existed. Fear, pain, loneliness…love?
“Grampa, I gotta go see how Yami is doing, okay?” Yugi assured quickly, eager to reach Yami.
“Okay Yugi. I just have to pay.” His grandfather smiled, nodding in understanding.
Yugi smiled back and ran to his house, less than ten blocks away.
Meanwhile, Yami was still on the bed, still staring at the spot blankly, still unmoving, silent for what seemed like and eternity. “I'm going to be left alone, aren't I? My friends are all going their own ways, shaping their own futures, and I'll be here, with grampa, alone. No Bakura, no Ryou, no Honda, no Otogi, no Joey, no Mai, no Anzu, no Seto, no Mokuba, no Serenity, no Marik, no Malik, and especially no aibou.” he said aloud, not realizing he said it outside of his mind, or that Yugi was standing at the door way, panting, listening.
“I'll never see Yugi wake up anymore, or see him scarf down pancakes like a starved wolf,” Yugi looked offended, “or see those glorious eyes look at me with satisfaction when he wins, or see his smile when he calls for me, or see his lips move when he speaks, and imagine mine on his…I should have told Yugi I loved him so long ago…” Yami babbled sadly, unshed tears shining in his jagged eyes.
Yugi blinked once, then twice, then rubbed his eyes, shaked his head, pinched his arm. Everything he could to do assure himself he wasn't dreaming. “Yami?”
Yami jumped, immediately sitting up in the bed, horror in his eyes and embarrassment on his cheeks. “Y-Yugi?!”
“Yami, is what you said just now true? Do you love me?” Yugi asked softly, sitting on the edge of Yami's bed.
Yami was silent. How long, he didn't know. 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 2 hours, another eternity? Yami looked at Yugi directly for the first time in a long while. He stared into his eyes, that he expected to see hate in. Instead he saw worry, love, and acceptance, everything he wanted. Yugi's lips were slightly parted, his breathing heavy from running, sweat plastered his bangs to his head, and made his face shine with a level of innocence that Yami thought was inconceivable. Yami's blush increased, rivaling a tomato. Yugi's appearance had changed over their four years together. He had matured greatly, but still held onto some of his babyish features. His eyes were still wide and adorable, but his face had lost some of the baby cheeks. He had grown a little taller, his body no longer as weak, but not rippled with muscles either. Just perfect. And that perfection was awakening his libido.
Without warning, Yami pounced on Yugi, kissing him as passionately as he could without going over the edge himself. Yugi gasped, opening his mouth. Yami immediately took advantage of it, and slid his tongue in expertly.
`Yugi will hate me…' he thought, `but I will have this one memory to treasure.'
He broke the kiss slowly, looking deep into Yugi's eyes. Instead of anger or surprise, he saw happiness and rapture. For the second time that evening, Yami was surprised.
“I love you too, Yami.” the angel before him stated softly, love dripping from each syllable. Yami blinked, widen his eyes, and smiled so brightly, the sun was outshined.
“Really Yugi?” he asked, voice full of anticipation.
“Really.” Yugi answered sincerely.
Yami smiled even more, if it was possible, then frowned. “But…you'll be going onto Harvard, won't you?”
Yugi blushed. “Actually…I was planning to tell you how I felt, and that I was going to stay and go to Tokyo U, but I didn't know how you felt so---“
Yami had cut him off with another kiss, enjoying the soft feel of Yugi's lips, and the taste of chocolate on his tongue. “I love you.” he mumbled against Yugi's lips.
“I love you too.”
“I love you more.”
“No, I love you more.”
“Do not.”
“Do too.”
“Do not.”
“Do too.”
“Do not!”
“Do too!”
“Alright then, Tetris! Right now! Best two out of three games!”
“You're on!”
Both tri-haired colored men ran down to the living room, mock fighting and laughing all the way, not noticing Bakura sitting at the window, chuckling and shaking his head. The years had softened him to his friends as well.
“True love at its best.” he whispered softly, then hopped off the window, and headed to his own angel waiting for him at home.
