Chapter 6: Re-living the Forbidden Memories

I turned back to Seto to look him in the eyes. My eyes were starting to glaze over, but this time I couldn't see his entire figure. I took the time to look at my surroundings. I was sitting on the ground with Seto by my side. He had his arms around me, trying to comfort me as best as he could. `For someone who has a glacier as a heart, he really knows how to comfort people.' My vision slurred again with some tears, but I held them back. `NO! I have to fight it! I won't cry while re-living my past.' I could tell Seto was being patient; he was waiting for me to actually start my past. I took a deep breath, "When I was about nine, I was the best in my class at everything. My patents noticed this and put me in higher grades. But it never really challenged me. At the age of eleven, I was really interested in electronics. I was able to take anything apart and put it together again, better than how it was built. Mom and dad encouraged me to take broken pieces of some computers and put them together and make better computer with high speed.

"My talents were soon noticed by the `Inventions' Inc. of America.' (If they are real, I don't own the company.) They took me in at age thirteen and introduced me to new systems in computers I have never heard of before. I was introduced to the future. My interest in technology and computers stretched; I invented a self-voice activated protective system, with a fingerprint scan alarm system. The self-voice activation was on your computer along with the fingerprint scan. The voice activation activates when you say your name to log into your computer. That is when the fingerprint with take action. The scanner scans your fingers on the keyboard to determine if the person is you or an intruder. I developed this when I was fourteen. It took me one year to think it up and develop it. I earned more money working for the company of Inventions Inc. while my parents stayed at home and Max went to school. I was doing hard work that came so easily to me. I was so happy at what I was doing; it was something I loved to do, and I decided to stick to it when I do get older.

"My family was impressed by me at what I had become. Every step of the way, my family always stuck by me in what I did. I grew to love the computers and how they worked; I wanted to become a CEO when I got older." I paused; Seto was standing up and taking me with him. I got to my feet with his hand as help. He led me to the bed, and we sat down on the edge of my purple comforter.

"Sorry, my legs started to hurt. I thought it was time for both of us to sit on something more appropriate. Now, please continue." I stared at his face but avoided eye contact. He was looking at me seriously with some patience. So I continued.

"On my fifteenth birthday, I was supposed to present a presentation at the Inventions Inc. I was believed to present my idea and invention to the scientists. But I never made it to the convention along with my family. On the way, we he a semi truck causing us to flip three times."

~*~*~*~*~*~* FLASHBACK

I looked over at my mom and dad in the front seat upside down. Not moving, they were just sitting there with their eyes closed. I unbuckled the seatbelt and got out of the car through the car window which was now shattered. Blood was streaming down my head and arms. I looked around to see if anyone was in sight to help. No one was near; all I could see was a bunch of smoke coming from the car. I realized that if I didn't get my brother out along with my patents they would die from a car explosion. I quickly crawled back in the car, unbuckling my brother and pulled him out. He was still breathing. `Thank goodness.' I carried him far away from the car as possible. `If it explodes, he will be safe.' I laid him down on some grass not too far away. Blood covered his face. He was worse than me. I turned around and headed towards the car. `If no one is gonna help me, then I'll do it myself.' I ran to the window and again crawled into it. I crawled over glass. It seemed to dig into my skin like piercing knives. I didn't care. `As long as I get my family out, I will be fine.' I was focused on getting my family out of the car and far away. I crawled on the top roof of our car and over the glass to the front where the driver's seat was. I reached my mom in the passenger seat and unbuckled her. I dragged her out and laid her next to the car and went back in to get my dad. As I was pulling him out of the car I could hear sirens in the background. `They are coming for us.' Excitement ran through my veins. `We are going to be okay.' I kept telling me this as I dragged my dad out the window. Once both of us were out, I pulled him towards where my mom laid. I set both of them by each others side. I looked down at both of them. `Something is wrong.' I put my hand on my mom's neck to hear a pulse. "Tami, they are going to be ok. Right?.........Right?" I looked behind me to see my brother's blood-stained face.

"I am not sure." I faced my mom again, breathing hard.

"Tami, do something." He voice rang through my ears like an echo. My hand was still on my mom's neck, but I couldn't feel anything. My eyes widened. `NO! NO, this can't be.' I put my hand on my dad's neck to feel for his pulse, nothing happened; there was not a pulse in either of them.

"I can't." My eyes started to water.

"What?" My brother's voice was little more than a whisper.

"I can't." Tears fell down my cheeks, but I didn't cry. I turned towards my brother and tried to stand but my legs felt like jelly. I couldn't get off the ground to hug my brother. Max noticed and walked over to me and sat down. I turned to him as the sirens were closer than before. `Where are they? Please, please. This isn't happening to me. This isn't happening to me.' I felt my brother hug me; I hugged him back. `I guess it's just me and you now.' "Max," I said this through my now crying sobs. "I promise nothing will happen to you. I promise. No matter what happens to us, I won't let anything happen to you or me." My brother was crying in my arms and me in his. We held each other while the ambulance pulled up. A bunch of people were now surrounding us, looking at us with faces of grief. "I promise. Nothing will separate us. Nothing." I drowned out everything in the background, all I could here was me and my brother's sobbing.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~* END OF FLASHBACK

Tears came freely now, just as they had during the accident. But still I continued, wiping each one away. "After the accident, I presented the presentation a week later. The scientists accepted it and paid me to make more inventions and better computers. Major companies bought my inventions. Months later, I was appointed a contract and signed it. I filled my dream; I became a CEO of `Inventions Inc.' but as soon as I got the company, I changed the name."

"But later, I made a promise that I broke. I was walking my brother home to our mansion a year later. We had millions of money and lived well with each other. We were attacked a block from the house by a masked mugger."

~*~*~*~*~*~* FLASHBACK

I wanted to kill the man right then and there for attacking us. The masked man held a gun to my brother's head. All he wanted was the money in my pockets, so I gave him everything I had. The mad man took everything out of my hand as I held it out to him. He let go of Max and let him fall to the ground. He took one look at my money in his hand and looked at me. He turned the gun on the defenseless Max on the ground. "Take one good look at him. For you ain't gonna see him no more." My and Max's eyes widened.

`I made a promise!' "NO! PLEASE DON'T HURT HIM!!! HE IS NO USE TO YOU!!! KILL ME INSTEAD!" I took one step towards Max.

"Take another step and he'll be `bye bye'" I stopped and looked at the masked stanger pleadingly.

"Please don't hurt him. I'll give you anything you want….anything!" I took another step.

"You heard what I said. One step and KABOOM!" He cocked the gun.

"NOOOOOOO!" I ran towards Max, but it was too late. I heard gun go off; the man laughed and ran off. Wish no interest in him, I ran towards Max and held his head in my lap. Blood was escaping his chest from the hole near his heart. "Max please doesn't leave me. You can't. I made a promise….you remember, I promised that I wouldn't let anything happen to you…"

"I r-remember." He stuttered these words out between gasps of pain. "Tami, I love you….p-please do-on't forget m-me. We'll be a-able to see each other again, s-someday. I-I'll be waiting w-with m-mom and dad." His last breath escaped his lips. I looked at the hole in his heart. It was bleeding rapidly, just like a waterfall, running freely. I watched as his chest rose one last time and fell again. I buried my head into his shoulder and head, blood was getting on my chin, but I didn't care.

"No." a whisper escaped my lips. Neighbors were walking out their doors to see what all the commotion was about. Someone called 911; I could here the sirens in the background. `It's just like mom and dad. Leaving me here alone, but with no one this time. I will never forget this day. I swear that man will pay for what he did to my brother and me. I swear it.' Screams were coming from all around me, as I sat cradling my little brother's head. Looking down at my brother's face one last time, someone picked me up and carried me to the ambulance for questioning.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~ END OF FLASHBACK

I stopped, and paused for a moment, "The masked man got a life sentence in jail. I actually kept a promise when that happened." I ended my story with one last sob. Silence filled the room. Seto still cradling me whispered in my ear, "I am sorry for what happened, but I do know exactly how you feel." He kissed my forehead and put his chin on my head. It was true. He did know how I felt. He lost his parents at twelve years old.

"Thank you Seto."

"For what?" he took his chin of the top of my head and looked me in the eyes. His sky blue eyes looked into my sea green ones. I felt something, but I couldn't tell what it was.

"For listening to me; I have never told anyone about my past….I never wanted to re-live it. But now I felt like I was ready. I now know that someday I will be with my family….but in the meantime, I will enjoy life they way I was supposed to." I was still staring into his eyes, but his gaze left mine and went to my door. I turned around; Joey, Bakura, Yugi, Yami, Ryou and Tea were all standing there. Mokuba was inside the room, by the doorframe. All of them had tears in their eyes. `They heard all of it!' I signed and got up. "Did you hear everything?" Everyone nodded. One tear rolled down my face on my right cheek. It slid down to my chin and fell to the ground. I looked down to where it had fallen. The dark spot was noticeable on my light blue carpet. `I am glad I don't have to repeat my story twice.' I mentally smiled at my lame and sickening joke. I looked up again and everyone was walking towards me. Each one had sorrow somewhere on their face.

"We're all here for ya, no matter what happened or happens." Joey came up and gave me a hug. I smiled; everyone walked up in a group, and waited behind Joey. Each one was waiting for my embrace.
