Chapter 13: A Quick Get Away
I opened my window and looked down. It seemed pretty high, but it was still close to the ground. `I've had worse.' I climbed out of the window and dropped to the ground landing on my feet. `Hmm….I guess I always was the strongest of the bunch.' As I hit the ground I could hear a crash and yelling filled my room a second later.
"She's not in here."
"Try the window." I could hear Yami panting from breaking open the door.
Seto looked out the window as I stood up and looked at him from the ground. Tears weld up, but I kept them inside me for a change. We both stared at each other for a couple of seconds. I turned around to run into my backyard.
"TAMRA WAIT!" I heard Seto yell over the panting of my breath. I ran right into the bushes and didn't stop until I couldn't see my mansion anymore.
~*~*~*~*~*~* Seto's POV
I finally decided to face Tamra in her crying breakdown. `Why would she even think such a thing?' I walked up to down the hall from her bedroom door. Bakura was walking towards me with a smirk on his face. I grabbed him and thrust him into the wall, making him breath hard. "What did you tell her?" my voice was filled with anger. I wanted to beat Bakura till he had to air to breathe, but I kept my temper under control. Tamra's door was out of ear shot as I held Bakura against the wall.
"I don't know what you are talking about."
"Don't give me that crap! You told her something about me that wasn't true."
"I only told her the truth."
"And exactly what is the truth?" I was clenching him harder, making him breathe in faster and deeper.
"SETO!? What are you doing?!" Ryou came up to me as I let go of Bakura.
I didn't answer his question and walked towards Tamra's room. I couldn't hear anything; I tried to open the door, but it was locked. I took a step back and ran my shoulder into the door.
"Seto, shouldn't you knock first." Mokuba was watching me carefully.
"No…." I ran into the door again. Nothing happened.
Yami came up to me, "Here let me help you."
Yami and I both backed up a step and rammed into the door, it moved slightly, but not enough to blast it off its hinges. Both of us backed up again and ran towards the door; it blew off like it was hit by a tornado.
"She's not in here."
"Try the window." Yami was panting from the door. I ran over to the window and looked down. Tamra was getting to her feet from jumping. She looked up into my face as I looked down at hers. We locked eyes for a couple of seconds before she ran off in the direction of the backyard forest.
"TAMRA WAIT!" I yelled at her as she ran. "wait…" it came out as a whisper the second time. Yami came up behind me and watched her run.
"She'll come back….just wait. She'll come back and want your embrace once again." Yami patted my back trying to reassure me; after all I was never friends with this geek.
"Don't count on it."
I whirled around to face Bakura. "What do you mean?"
"She won't come back to you……………..…she won't come back to any of us."
"What exactly did you tell her?"
"I told her the truth about you….they lying, thieving and backstabbing jerk for what you once were."
"Wha' are ya talkin abou'?" Joey walked right into a conversation, which he shouldn't have walked into.
"Shut up mutt….the adults are having a conversation that you can't comprehend."
"Kaiba…" His voice rattled with anger.
I turned back to Bakura, "I didn't do any of those things."
"First of all you did, second of all you fell in love with Kisara."
"The only person I love is Tamra and only Tamra, no one else. Kisara helped me with my father; he controlled me like a puppet and made me lie, thieve and turn into a backstabber………….Kisara got me out of that."
"So the priest finally admits it…"
"I didn't admit to it….because I never did any of those things."
"STOP IT BOTH OF YOU!" Tea stepped in front of me and Bakura. "Just stop it……yelling at each other isn't going to get Tamra back. We need to sort this out like adults. I propose that we go down stairs and decide what to do in the sitting room."
"That sounds like a good idea to me." Yugi was over by the doorframe with Mokuba.
I sighed, "Fine, we'll go downstairs."
Every single one of them headed down stairs into the sitting room and started to discuss what they should do. Yami and Yugi thought that it might be a good idea not to go after her; she just might need some time alone and will come back home later. All of us agreed to wait out the rest of day, but if she didn't come home by tomorrow morning they would begin to search.
And hour later after Tamra ran away, the phone rang. I got up and headed towards the phone to answer it. It was sitting on a table by the doorway. Ana got to the phone before I did and picked it up.
"Miss Knox residence how may I help you?"
I could hear talking over on the other line, but I couldn't tell if it was a man's voice or a woman's; it was helpless to think it was Tamra.
"One minute please." Ana put the phone on hold, set it down and walked passed me towards Mokie. "Mokuba, someone is on the phone for you." Ana walked away after that.
`I knew it was Tamra…why won't she talk to me?' Mokuba brushed passed while I was watching him.
He picked up the phone; all of us were watching intensively. "Hello?" There was a pause as Tamra was talking to him.
"Ok…are ya sure? Ok………………………… 230;.Joey the phone's for you." I sat down on the couch watching Joey get up and walk to the phone. Mokuba backed off and handed it to Joey,
"Hi." Another silent pause swept over the room as Joey listened to Tamra on the other line. "Ok, I'll tell them. Ya lov ya too, Tam." Joey hung up.
The last words of Joey made me get mad, but I shrugged it off, it was just a goodbye. "Tamra says that trying any contact with her, will make it so she won't come back."
Mokuba stepped up, "She also says the race is off, and that she doesn't know when she is coming home."
"Don't you think that is a little harsh?" Tristan was concerned, you could tell by the look on his face.
"That's what she said."
"Ok…well what do we do now?"
"I guess that we could just make ourselves at home while she's gone."
"I guess so…." Yugi held his head down; he wanted her to come home as much as I did.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Tamra's POV/ reader's POV
I walked around the bushes and onto the side of the house. No one could see me, because I was still well hidden. I passed my garage on the way and headed into the parking lot of my house. I turned to look at my mansion; I saw all my friends walk into the sitting room to sit down. I walked into the street and crossed it. Making sure no one saw me; I headed towards Jon's house.
I knocked on the door as his mom answered it.
"Oh, hello Tamra, how are you?"
"Fine I guess." My face was stiff from the tears.
"Alright……………. well he's downstairs in his room, and he might be practicing his martial arts or on his computer."
"Thanks Mrs. Melissa." I always called her by her fist name. She was almost like a second mother to me.
"You're welcome," She opened the door and let me in. I passed a clean house and well organized furniture. His house had green carpet and a lot of colorful rugs. I walked passed the kitchen into the hallway and down the stairs. Passing several rooms, I finally came to Jon's and knocked on the door.
"Who is it?"
"Me."
The door opened, "Hey I haven't seen you in a couple of days, where have you been?"
"Office." I lied straight to his tan, spiked hair and blue eyed face. `I can't believe I did that.'
"I understand." He let me in as I sat down on his gray carpet leaning against his bed. He went to his computer in the corner of his room and sat down. His room was square with white walls and a coupled of pictures of girls on his wall. "I was just going to log off and practice. Do you want to help me?"
"Of course, you know that I will never let a friend in need down." I smiled at him as he got up to open a second door. "After all you did teach me some of the stuff."
"Yea, ya…anyways come on." I got up and headed towards the door and walked inside. There was a huge mat that covered the whole room. A couple of punching bags lined the back of the room; sticks lined on the wall behind them.
Jon took off his shirt as I took off my shoes. He grabbed a stick and threw it to me. I caught it and met him in the middle of the room, on top of the mat.
"I've learned another move, so just be prepared."
"Oh come on, when was the last time you actually beat me?"
"Um…well…"
"My point exactly, now lets get the fight goin' on!" We tapped sticks together to indicate that both of us were ready to start. We also did it to represent that what ever happens that we will not put each other in the hospital………….again. I guess it was a sign of our close friendship. He took his chance to swing as I ducked and swung at him. The sound stick against flesh was heard from his leg.
We ended an hour later with cuts and bruises all over our bodies. Most of them were on my back as well as his. Mine were worse than his. We walked back into his room and started to clean our nasty cuts with towels. I sat down next to his bed again and started wiping a cut on the bottom back of my neck. Jon sat at his computer checking his leg.
"Spill it."
I looked up at him, "What are you talking about?"
"I noticed that you are worse than me, usually I am the one in bed for the next couple of days, but it's you. Something is wrong Tam. I have known you all my life…I think I need to know why my best friend was not doing their very best to beat me up."
"Nothing is wrong." I looked down at the floor as I was rubbing a cloth on my neck the best I could. Blood was escaping all the cuts made from the sticks, but none of it was life threatening. I was in pain along with him, but at least I got some of my anger and loneliness out on him.
"I could see anger on your face every time you hit me. Now spill it."
I hesitated a moment, "I met someone…"
I told him of the yugioh characters, how Shadi visited us in the night, how I fell in love with Seto and the gold bands around my wrists. I then told him of Bakura and the kiss, his lies and truths. "I don't know what to believe anymore….."
Jon listened to me with out question and sat through it all. He didn't interrupt or even ask questions. I was wondering if he even believed me, because yugioh is a cartoon, but somehow he seemed like he knew all along that it was real.
"Jon?"
He looked at me, "Tami, I believe you, but I just don't understand…this is another dimension that all of us grew up in?!"
I nodded, "That's what Shadi said."
"Ok……………..well you fell I love with Seto, and Bakura is saying that he fell in love with Kisara. Am I right?"
I nodded, "Well Tami, Bakura is lying."
"How can you decide that right off the bat?
"Tami, I don't know about love, but I think Seto still loves you and he always will."
"How can you be so sure?"
"By the look on your face……….I can tell you love him with all your heart, and how can anyone not love a sweet and loving girl back?" He looked at me still sitting at his desk.
"Maybe your right."
"There is not maybe…I am right."
I gulped…. "How can I go back, I practically deserted the one I love and all my friends? I don't know what to do, and I DO NOT want to face Bakura again."
"When Bakura said he had feelings for you, what did he look like?"
"What?"
"His face expression, what was it?"
"He was calm and had a smirk on his face most of the time."
"Right there is the answer; I guarantee that he was lying about Seto not loving you. I also bet that he doesn't have feelings for you…I think he was trying to confuse you…he still might be after the millennium items."
"I think you are right." Jon smiled a huge smile for accomplishing his goal: cheering me up. I laughed, "What is so funny?"
"Well….you."
"How am I funny, I am not being funny?"
"I don't know how to explain it….it might just be a girl thing." I stopped and looked at his stare. "By the way, Can I stay here for a while….I really don't want to go home yet."
"Feel free to stay as long as you want."
"Thanks Jon…I knew I could count on you."
"Anytime."
I stayed at Jon's till it was late at night. When I looked at the clock it was two in the morning. I told him that I probably should get home and actually clean my cuts thoroughly.
I left his house five minutes later and walked home alone. I stayed out of the street until I had to cross it. I walked up to my house to open the door, but it was locked.
"Dang it!" I didn't want to knock, or I might wake everyone up. I made a decision to break into my house.
