It was the year 2056 and the world was at peace. Humans, Anatians*, Shape-shifters, and Vampires al lived harmoniously together on this planet. It was a time of tranquility where there were no wars or any other types of violence. It was the perfect Era to live in. Children of all these different species lived and hung out and worked together...there was no discrimination against a different genus.
~
Yami Mutou, a six year old Anatian*, walked out of the clay hut which was his home and into the central Plaza of the Anatian's main village, Thebes. (Shadow: Thebes in Egypt of course ^_~) He bowed at the statue of Anat* in the middle of the courtyard since such was a usual morning habit before smiling and waving to his friend Jonouchi who was waiting by the city exit to walk to school with his younger friend.
"Ohayo Jonouchi-kun!" Yami called, running past the people in the piazza to reach his Shape-shifter friend. (Shadow: I know they're in Egypt but bare with the Japanese! I think it's cute ^_^)
The blonde boy smiled, waving when his friend approached. He stared at the mass of Tri-colored haired people behind them before asking, "Where is Yugi-kun?" (Shadow: The Anatians all have tri-colored hair. The men where their hair spiked up, like Yugi and Yami while the women where their hair down. This would explain why they look alike in my fic. - Thanks Acid, for letting me use your idea on that ^^)
"...I thought he was here with you?" the smaller boy replied.
A high pitched giggling was heard as a small form launched itself at Yami, latching onto the boy's waist and almost sending the both of them toppling over.
"Yami-Chaaaaaann!!!!!" the person sang, gripping tighter to the boy and nuzzling their face into his chest.
Yami gasped in the air that was practically knocked out of his and smiled at the bundle wrapped around him, "Ohayo Yugi-chan," he answered.
Yugi was Yami's best friend in the entire Anatian village. He was a cute little boy of five years; with large innocent violet eyes and a face that was never shown without a smile. He was very short for his age, reaching only to Yami's chin which wasn't very high up since Yami was under the average height himself.
Another thing about the boy that he was among the few half bloods in this part of the world. His father, now deceased, was Anatian while his mother a shape-shifter of a cat. The result made Yugi a very special breed of half cat/half Anatian. His hair and unique eye color made him a recognizable Anatian, but half concealed by the blue school uniform shorts he wore, was a fluffy white cat's tail showing him as half shape-shifter. It would also explain why he was so small, since shape-shifters of house pets tended to be below the height of the average person.
Yugi took Yami's hand, grinning at Jou as a greeting and began to lead the other towards the schoolhouse which was on the other side of the city. He giggled, releasing the taller boy's hand and sprinting forward a little, "come on lets race!" he yelled, smiling broadly as he took of faster down the gravel path, sending up little clouds of dust every time his feat pounded lightly against the ground.
Jou darted after him, pausing to transform into his dog form, which was only the size of a baby golden retriever at his young age, so he could run faster. Yami grinned and started to run after them yelling that he couldn't run that fast and that this wasn't a fair game.
When they arrived at the schoolhouse, Yugi and Jou started having an argument of who reached the small building first. Jou won in the end by scratching the smaller boy lightly across the face with a sharpened nail and causing the boy to run crying to Yami. Yami had just rolled his eyes and pushed the taller boy into a wall, telling him not to hurt Yugi again. The blonde new not to mess with Yami since Anatians were born with abnormal strength however so he did not pick a fight.
When the bell sounded, Jou went to his classroom which was separate from the other two boys sine he was a few years older and Yugi and Yami went to their classroom at the end of the hall together.
~~~`
Yugi yawned; resting his head on Yami's chest as the teacher put a movie on for the class. It was called `The Lion King' and supposedly a very old children's film*. The two sat next to each other on one of the beanbag chairs spread around the room. Only on movie days could students sit in these chairs; on other days they would have regular group tables.
The taller Anatian rested his head on top of the other's, noticing the smaller shift a little and smile happily up at him before cuddling against him more as his white tail swished from side to side in a happy manner. One of Yugi's favorite things to do, and Yami noted this after spending so much time with the boy, was nestling....the smaller boy loved to be close to people. Yami figured that it was just part of the cat instinct within him from his mother's side.
Yami watched the movie, giggling when the two characters Simba and Nalla pulled a trick to get rid of the annoying bird. Yugi laughed at that part too and hid his face in Yami's neck when the Elephant Graveyard scene approached.
"Alright children, that was the movie for today. It is now noon, so classes are dismissed, you may go home," the teacher, a human, said as she waved them off.
The young children cheered and ran out of the schoolhouse; eager to get back to their villages and let the weekend festivities begin.
"Ne, Yami-chan..?"
"Hai Yugi-kun?"
The smaller boy looked up with big violet eyes, "are you going to be at La Piazza tonight for the festival of Ra?"
Yami nodded, swinging his and Yugi's adjoined hands back and forth as they walked down the path, "who isn't? It's one of the biggest festivals of the year since he is Anat's father and all."
"Yeah....I'm happy. You always make everything so much more fun!" the boy laughed and hugged the taller tightly.
Yami just laughed and nodded, "come on!" he let go of the boy's hands. "Rematch on that race from this morning!"
"Okay but you'll never win!"
They laughed as Yami was in the lead for a few moments but Yugi tackled him to the ground and leapt up again, running ahead to get to the village first. Yami groaned and wiped the dirt off himself before racing after his short friend.
He stopped noticing Yugi standing by the village entrance, not moving and using his hands to shield his face. //What's going on?//
He approached the smaller boy and blinked, peering around the wall in front of him before gasping as well. His eyes widened as they drunk in the horrendous site before them. Yami gripped Yugi's shoulders tightly, allowing the boy to turn his face into his chest like he had for the scary part of the movie during school.
Tears soaked the white material covering Yami's torso as the small one cried, "Mommy, mommy!" over the eerie silence.
Death was the only word to describe the village as it was now. Bodies were sprawled all over the grounds, some nailed to trees and others mutilated beyond recognition.
So much blood covered the village ground. It was like someone painted the city red.
"Mommy!" Yugi cried, breaking out of Yami's arms and running towards one of the fallen bodies. "Mommy, wake up! You still can't be taking a nap!" he yelled, shaking the pale form of his mother. "Mommy, please get up! I want to tell you about the movie we watched in classes today!"
The taller Anatian walked forward slowly, holding back tears as he noticed a few of his relatives on the ground. "Yugi," he rasped out. The smaller turned, tears clouding his violet orbs. "We have to leave this place its dang--"
"Look there are two more over there!" called a male voice.
//We're saved! Maybe one of the villagers have survived!// Yugi thought. //They can help Mommy wake up from her sleep!//
A brown haired girl walked over, smiling and showing her extended fangs. The two little boys grasped onto each other in fear as the girl came closer.
"Aren't you two pretty specimens?" she stated, licking her lips.
Yami, trying to be brave for Yugi and all the villagers who had fallen. He picked up a arrow head from the ground and threw it at her, whimpering as she caught it easily in her hand.
The brunette turned to the man standing behind her. His black hair was pulled into a tight ponytail in the back of his head and his emerald eyes pierced through the glum atmosphere. He grinned at the children as well, taking out what looked like a gun. "I await further instructions, Anzu-Sama," he spoke crisply.
The woman, Anzu, smirked, "Master would like the red eyed one for he is a fighter. Have him frozen for a few years and erase his memory..."
"What about the little one, Miss?"
"Just freeze him for a while too...we can't have him talking about what happened here now can we?" She said in a sickly-sweet tone.
The raven haired man nodded and aimed his gun at the shorter one. Yami growled and stepped in front of Yugi, "go away you mean vampires!" he yelled.
The man chuckled and pulled the trigger; sending a wave of ice over the taller boy and making him turn numb and fall to the ground. Yugi cried out, dropping to his knees and hugging the taller boy, "Yami! Yami get up! Stop playing this game!" He wrapped his tail around the frozen body, hoping to warm it as his tears spilled down his cheeks, "you said you'd come to the festival with me! You can't leave me here! What about mommy and Jonouchi and everyone else?!"
When there was no response Yugi narrowed his eyes, his fingernails sharpening into cat-like claws as he lashed out at the man, scratching him across the arm and face, making him drop the ice gun.
"Shit get this menace off me!" the man yelled.
"Otogi, just kill him for Kami's sake!" Anzu screeched.
The man called Otogi growled, throwing the child off of him and onto the ground; smiling when the boy began to whimper. He picked up his ice gun and fired it at the boy, freezing him on the spot.
"Let's take the tall one and get out of here. When that kid wakes up in a few years he'll be as good as dead all alone like that. Master is waiting so we must go."
Otogi took the tall Anatian's body and walked the his leader to the portal they arrived in.
Stuff:
*Anatians: a warrior clan which all have the same hair of the three colors Red, black, and gold. Men wear their hand spiked while women wore it down to their shoulders. They worship and fight in the name of the warrior goddess Anat as well as other minor gods/goddesses and tend to keep to themselves most of the time so not to interbreed with other species and create half-bloods. They thought themselves slightly superior to the other races of the futuristic world and don't get along well with Vampires. ((PLEASE KNOW I MADE THIS CLAN UP AND IT DIDN'T REALLY EXIST IN ANCIENT EGYPT.))
*Anat: A female warrior deity of Syrian (Canaanite) origin. She is derived from the goddess Anath. In Egyptian mythology Anat is the daughter of the solar deity Ra. She was usually portrayed carrying a shield, spear and axe. Anat was also a cow goddess.
*The Lion King would be a really old children's film that many years into the future ^__^
