Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Mantras ❯ Chapter 1
Disclaimer: Yu-Gi-Oh! isn't mine.
Don't look at him. The overpowering thought that repeats over and over again in his head until it has become a mantra.
Don't look at him. His daily tasks have become nothing more than mindless chores. What importance do the Gods have, anyway? None, none compared to -
Don't think about him. He doesn't, he doesn't think about him, he doesn't think about anything. The afternoon sun is bright and burns his skin. He squints his eyes reflexively, scowling. Why did it have to be him?
No, no, don't think about him. Don't think about him, don't look at him. Don't look at him, don't look at him, don't look at him. He continues his tasks, eyes burning two blazing blue holes in the broiling sand. The sweet water caresses his skin and the ancient words come to his lips unconsciously, a different kind of mantra. He doesn't have to think about this any more. There's only one thing that comes to his empty mind, and it is him.
Don't look at him. And he pushes the thoughts away and scowls again, knowing that if he lets his thoughts wander the Gods will see him unfit for the job. But they shouldn't mind anymore. He's still a Priest, isn't he? There's nothing that he can do wrong. Nothing. He is perfect, the very image of perfection. In fact, he might make a better Pharaoh than -
No. Don't think about him. A tainted smile comes to his lips, the words still flowing from his lips. And why shouldn't I?
He looks up. And there is Atemu, staring down at him from the high terrace of the Palace. Smiling.
Seto pauses, lips frozen mid-word. Don't look at him, look back down, concentrate.
He doesn't. So what if the Gods frown upon him?
Atemu is still watching him. The young Pharaoh raises a highly adorned hand to his lips and whispers something, eyes pinned to the High Priest.
The wind carries it down.
"Look at me."
Authors Notes: Like everything else that I write, this doesn't make much sense. I wrote it not only because I had a dream about this, but because it struck me that Seto is a High Priest, but in the manga he doesn't really do anything very High Priest-like.
..Normally I wait a while before posting things so I can read things over and catch any mistakes that I made, but I didn't do that this time, so I might redo parts of this later.
Once again, sorry for confusing everyone.
