Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Master of the Magicians ❯ Chapter 10
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Aight, another chapter, yay!
This fic oscillates between angst, humor, and fluff. You have been warned. Yami can be indecisive and angst and do normal teenage things, kind of, because he's got some of his memories back. And I like him when he's not supremely confident. I'm sure he has problems like the rest of us mortals. Or maybe that's just my preference.
Chapter 10
The light formed around him, banishing the shadows, and he found Yuugi and Anzu looking at him worriedly.
“Yami, are you all right? Everything just went dark and…”
“It was a Shadow Game.” Yami said simply, tucking Osiris into his Deck. The Duel Disk on his arm felt unnecessary now, more an accessory than anything of real significance, but to continue, he needed it.
Speaking of which…
Yuugi looked surprised as Yami handed him the Duel Disk. “Demo… Yami, won't you need this to continue?”
“You entered this tournament for my sake, Yuugi. I'm sorry.”
“Why? It's not your fault you lost your memory!”
“In a way, I was being punished for my pride and arrogance… but don't worry, Yuugi. I'm sure you'll do wonderfully. You have the potential inside your heart, and the Cards respond to you. Trust me.”
“…?”
“Here.” He slid a card into Yuugi's hand, watching the eyes open in wonder. “I think he suits you.”
Silent Magician Level 0… and as Yuugi picked it up, he felt a strange sense of belonging. It was strange, but, yes…
“Thank you, Yami.”
“To start your new deck, partner. I wish you the best of luck.”
“Wait! Yami! Where are you going?” Anzu asked. “You can't just leave…!”
Yami smiled. “But I won't be leaving, at least not yet. First, I'll have to defeat Kaiba… and then, Malik himself…”
Yami smiled. “But I won't be leaving, at least not yet. First, I'll have to defeat Kaiba… and then, Malik himself…”
“You're not making any sense, Yami. Who told you this? How did you get your memories back?”
Yami and Yuugi both looked taken aback by Anzu's odd behavior. “Anzu…”
“What have you done to Yami? Who are you?”
“Anzu! Yami is still Yami!” Yuugi said in confusion. “Why are you acting so irrational?”
“Liar! Yami… you aren't him because Yami loves me!”
“WHAT?!” Yuugi and Yami both asked in unison.
Anzu burst into tears and ran off. Yuugi spared Yami an apologetic glance before he ran after her.
Yami frowned. Something was wrong again…
Was she jealous? Impossible!
The puzzle seemed to glow and then there was a bright flash of a light. Anzu miraculously appeared again. Then, a staff impacted Anzu's head. Strangely, it wasn't the one Yami expected.
“You're just a stupid dancer! He smiled at you once! He smiles at everyone! And he was too busy worrying about his ailing father to care about you!” A girl's voice yelled. “And I know you slept with his guards to get entrance to the Royal Bedroom! Lucky he wasn't in bed that night, wasn't it?”
Check. Yes, a girl's voice.
That was… not Dark Magician.
Dark Magician Girl, also known as Mana and Mahaado's Apprentice, besides any other title that didn't come to mind immediately, raised her calm shell wand for another strike. At least she wasn't letting off Dark Burning Attacks yet…
Yami wondered how this had happened. He hadn't summoned her.
Could Duel monsters summon themselves, then? Perhaps. Mana was human too, or had been human, just like Mahaado had, and Mahaado could act outside a Duel's regulations, occasionally…
“I hate you!” Mana said, giving Anzu another whack over the head. “You may think you can deceive me in this reincarnation, Teana, but I know you!”
“Dark Magician Girl! Stop!” Yuugi cried.
To Yami's surprise, Dark Magician Girl stuck out her tongue at Yuugi. “Sorry, but I don't have to listen to you.”
“Perhaps you'll listen to my voice then?” Another voice cut in. the Dark Magician materialized, facing his apprentice with a stern glare.
“Eep!”
“Sneaking off from my lessons and then entering the mortal realm! I'm ashamed of you, Mana! My apologies, Pharaoh.”
“Think nothing of it, Mahaado.” Yami smiled.
Mahaado nodded as he grabbed Mana and they vanished again.
“…” Yuugi wasn't quite sure what to say. True, he'd always sensed that some of the monsters were more than others, and the Shadow Realm… well, it existed, or else Yami would be unable to call Shadow Games, but this was not what he had expected.
“Pharaoh?” Anzu asked, voice dangerously low.
Yami blinked. “What of it?”
“He calls you Pharaoh?”
“Well, considering I was a Pharaoh in my past life… why does that surprise you so much?”
“Is he the one who gave you your memories back?”
“Some of them, yes.” Yami finally noticed something seemed to be up. “Why? You say that like it's a bad thing.”
“You…!”
By now, Yami was feeling quite confused. Anzu was acting like… well, like his mother almost, but he was fairly sure she wasn't his mother - Queen Akila… she had died when he was only four or five…
Wait… did this possibly mean…?
“Anzu. I do not love you except as a friend.” There, that should make things absolutely clear…
“What?” Anzu began to glow with righteous indignation. “After everything I've done for you, you turn me down now, Yami?”
“Done for you?” Yami asked, honestly confused.
“If I hadn't taken you to that museum we would never have met Isis and known about your past!”
“But… what does this have to do with what we're doing now?” Yami asked, still confused. It couldn't be that… she…
She wasn't in love with him was she? That was impossible! And yet…
And yet he couldn't discount it that easily. A jealous woman was a dangerous force to be reckoned with indeed…
Yami sighed mentally. What was he to do now? He wasn't made to deal with these kinds of conflicts! < Mahaado… >
< Yes, my Pharaoh? > The whisper in his mind was soft, but there was steel underneath gold. Just like Mahaado…
< What am I to do? >
< Should I talk with her, my Pharaoh? >
< It cannot do any harm, I suppose. >
There was a brief feeling of contentment and then Anzu found she whisked away through smoke and vapor into a dark world…
She shivered.
Up ahead, a castle of dark jagged corners loomed, and she found a girl with blonde hair - Dark Magician Girl? Waiting for her with her hands on her hips.
“Well come on! We don't have all day you know.”
No, this was not shaping up to be a good day…

Phantomness: I don't like Anzu, in case that wasn't evident enough.
