Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Memories Long Forgotten, Now Regained ❯ The Orphanage ( Chapter 2 )
Kurai: roy24 owns no Yugioh! Good thing too…*starts imagining what would happen if roy24 owned Yugioh* uh… I'm going to stop doing that now… (A/N: Wanna know who Kurai is? Check out my bio)
Roy24:shut up Kurai.
Roy24: Woohoo! Orphanage time! Okay, Seto meets friends, and Seto meets, enemies…err…enemy…. And a sad farewell between friends. My first actual tearjerker! Might not be very good, but I'm not well acquainted with the `sadness emotion', k?
A/N: Okeys, this came out a little shorter than I wanted it to be…*sweatdrops* oh well, if you want the next chapter to be longer, just review the story telling me that you want it longer, k?
Now onto the story!
Chapter 2: The Orphanage
"Children, this is Seto and his little brother Mokuba. Everyone, say `hi'." Mrs. Chiko said as she introduced both Yamagata boys to the other children.
"Hi Seto! Let's go play!" Tea, who enthusiastically ran up to Seto and dragged him to the play area, said with a big smile on her face.
"Sure Tea! I'd love to play with you!" Seto replied as he let Tea drag him to the toy box.
"Here," Tea handed him a doll, "You can play Rose while I play as Yaska, okay?"
"Dolls? But that's boring! How about we go play outside?" Seto asked as he tried to get away from the "doll crazed" girl.
"Awww! But dolls are fun!" Tea said as she pouted slightly. "hmph…boys will be boys I guess…"
As Tea and Seto were talking amongst themselves, the other children looked on in amazement. One little boy especially, an eight-year-old named Tai Drew. He considered himself as the only boy who was allowed to talk freely with Tea, but she seemed to think otherwise.
"Uh…Tai… whatcha gonna do about the new kid talking to Tea like that, huh?" A boy, who was about the age of nine, asked him, a slight smirk appearing on his face. No-one messed with Tai and "his Tea". No-one, unless of course they wanted to be in a world of pain. (A/N: Ouch…what a violent child, eh?)
"I'll tell ya what I'm gonna do, I'll first tell him to get away from MY Tea. Then, if he doesn't listen, I'll be sure to teach him a little "lesson" before we go to bed tonight." Tai said as he walked up to the talking couple. "Hey kid, get away from my Tea! Stay away from her too!"
"Tai! Leave them alone! Seto needs some friends here, so why not Tea?!" Mr. Taisaku said as he fumed, looking at Tai.
"But Mr. Taisaku! She's my friend! Not some newbie kid and his little stupid brother!" Tai blurted out, but covered his mouth just as quickly as he said it, hoping that Seto didn't hear him. But, of course, the fates were against him, Seto heard every word.
"Mokuba is not stupid! Even though I hate him for killing my mommy doesn't mean that you can call him stupid!" Seto said as he calmly got up, walked over to Tai, and if looks could kill, Tai would be six feet under by now. (A/N: Boy, he's mad…)
"Seto, calm down. I'm sure that Tai didn't mean it. Right Tai?!" Mr. Taisaku asked, turning to Tai with a glare that promised time-out if he said otherwise.
"Yes Mr. Taisaku. I didn't mean it." Tai reluctantly said.
"Sure he didn't," Tea whispered to Seto which made him laugh lightly.
"Well anyway, Seto. Be careful around Tai. We've noticed that he's quite the bully around new people, especially if they get close to Tea here," Mr. Taisaku said as he pointed to Tea, "Just watch yourself around him, okay?"
"Okay, I will. Now come on Tea, let's go play outside." Seto said as he dragged Tea, hoping that she forgotten about her dolls, and took her towards the outside playground.
"Okay, but what about my dolls!?!?" Tea asked Seto, but was completely ignored.
Mr. Taisaku and Mrs. Chiko watched as Tai fumed when Seto dragged Tea outside to play. Glancing around, they noticed that most of the children there were either too afraid to become friends with Seto, or…they plain hated him because they were friends with Tai.
"This is going to be trouble." Mr. Taisaku whispered to Mrs. Chiko, "What do think we should do with them?"
"Trouble is right." Mrs. Chiko agreed, "I think we should allow Seto to stay around Tea whether Tai gets mad or not. The only thing that we would hafta make sure of would be that either you or me is around Seto and Tea, or just Seto, and see what happens."
*~*~*~*~*A Week Later*~*~*~*~*
"Seto! I wanna see Mokuba! Seto!!" Tea yelled as she barged into Seto's sleeping chambers with the other boys, again… for the seventh time that week.
"Huh? Tea? Whatcha doin' here?" Seto as he groggily sat up on his bed, "especially since this is supposed to be the BOYS chambers…"
"Hehe…didn't you hear me comin' in? I wanna see Mokuba!" Tea said as she impatiently dragged Seto away from his bed, which resulted in him falling on top of her. "Um…oops? Sorry Seto, didn't mean to make ya fall like that."
"It's okay, really. I'm fine." Seto said as he got off of Tea and helped her stand up. "Now let's go and see Mokuba!"
*~*~*~*~*Infants Chambers*~*~*~*~*
When Tea and Seto came barreling into the infant chambers, Mokuba was peacefully sleeping. Until, of course, they crashed into a chair that they apparently didn't notice.
"Waah!" Mokuba screamed as he was abruptly woken from his fitful slumber.
"Tea! Seto! You should've known better than to wake up Mokuba!" Mrs. Chiko scolded as she came running into the infant chamber after hearing Mokuba cry.
"We're sorry Mrs. Chiko, but I REALLY wanted to see Mokuba!" Tea said as she apologized for the both of them.
"That's okay, Tea. But next time, be quieter, okay?" Mrs. Chiko said as she picked up Mokuba and took him into the kitchen. "You two get ready for breakfast. We have some visitors today that want to adopt someone as their successors when they die, so I want everyone to be in tip-top shape when they come."
"Okay Mrs. Chiko! We will!" Tea said as she, once again, dragged Seto somewhere, this time to his chambers. (A/N: She loves to drag him everywhere huh?)
"TEA! I think that I can walk on my own…thank you very much!" Seto yelled as he yanked himself free of Tea's strong grip.
"Yeah Tea, he can walk on his own…unlike me." Tai said as he came up to them, smirking in a way that only he could smirk in, a stupid one. Over time, Tai's hatred towards Seto only grew ten-fold. Mainly because Tea and Seto's relationship -which was more like a brother-sister relationship at the time (A/N: key words; at the time)- also grew ten-fold.
"Oh please, Tai. You can walk just fine, I see you doing it right now. And yes, I know Seto can walk on his own, he was just going to slow was all." Tea huffed as she walked up to Tai.
"Oh? And where are you two in a hurry to get to, huh?" Tai asked, his smirk still plastered on his slightly brown face.
"To breakfast, that's where! Now move, or I'll make you move!" Seto yelled as he became agitated that Tea and him couldn't even walk around the orphanage without being questioned by Tai or one of his goons. How immature.
"Soorry…I was just asked a simple question is all…"Tai said as he mockingly moved out of the way.
"You better have been." Seto said as he started to walk towards the sleeping chambers, with Tea slowly trailing behind.
"Ya know what, Seto? I don't really like these meetings with people who want to adopt us. I mean, if one of us really was adopted, I don't think that we would ever see each other again, and I don't want that to happen!" Tea said as she started to cry uncontrollably.
"Shhh…It's okay Tea. If either of us, and Mokuba, ever gets adopted, we'll find a way to see each other again, I'll promise you that!" Seto said as he draped a comforting arm around Tea's shoulders. "Besides, if me and Mokuba get adopted, which we will together cuz I won't allow it any other way, I'll always remember you."
"Thanks, that's sweet Seto. Now let's get ready!"
*~*~*~*~*Main room with visitors, a few hours later*~*~*~*~*
"Yes, Mr. Gozaburo Kaiba, he is a prodigy. He would be quite the successor if he allows you to adopt him, of course." Mr. Taisaku said to, yet again, another person who to adopt the prodigy, Seto Yamagata.
"What do you mean by `if he allows you to adopt him'?" Gozaburo asked quizzically.
"Well, you see, Seto has set certain expectations for his step-parents that he says MUST be followed. The most important one of all is that he -or she- also adopts his baby brother, Mokuba." Mr. Taisaku said as he remembered all of the people that Seto refused to be adopted by because they only wanted him and not his little brother.
"Ohh…don't you worry. I have a proposition for him that he could not refuse." Mr. Kaiba smirked.
"What could that-" He was interrupted by the pitter-patter of many running feet. "Ahh…yes, here he is now."
Mr. Kaiba and Mr. Taisaku watched, one amused and one not, as Seto and Tea raced into the room that the two men were in, with all of the orphans following close behind.
"You must be Seto Yamagata. I'm Gozaburo Kaiba, owner of KaibaCorp. I want to adopt you…and your little brother." (A/N: for the rest of the chapter, I'm going to refer to Gozaburo as Kaiba, k?)
"Really?!" Seto asked enthusiastically.
"Yes, under one condition. You must beat me at a chess match." Kaiba said, fully expecting himself to win.
"You're on!"
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* ~*~*~*
`W-what?!? How could this child beat me?!?! I'm a chess champion! He's just a toddler!' "Hmph…good match kid. You won. I guess that I must keep up my end of the deal." Kaiba sighed.
"Thank-" Seto started to say.
"That's great Seto! Both you and Mokuba are getting adopted! Just like you always wanted!" Tea said as she happily threw herself at Seto, which unceremoniously threw him off balanced.
"Yeah, but what about us Tea? I mean, we won't see each other again." Seto said as he slightly blushed.
"Oh yeah, let's talk about it, Seto." Tea said as she and Seto went to talk outside.
"What was that all about?" Kaiba asked, turning to Mr. Taisaku.
"Well you see, Seto and Tea have the tightest bond of any two orphans that I have seen in all of my years at working at this orphanage. It's going to be really hard for those two to split up, so I think we should give them some time alone together to get everything worked out." Mr. Taisaku said disdainfully.
"Oh, okay. That'll give us enough time to fill out the adoption papers then." Kaiba said, as he glanced towards the direction the two kids went. `He'll be broken of that bond yet.'
*~*~*~*~*With Seto and Tea*~*~*~*~*
"Seto, how'll we be able to keep our bond when you leave the orphanage?" Tea asked, nearing a crying stage.
"I dunno. Maybe we can give each other a symbol of our re…uh…-what was it again?- oh yeah, relationship." Seto said as he fished out a golden chain with a silver locket out of his pocket and handed it to Tea. "Here, you can have this. It means a lot to me, so take care of it."
"Oh Seto, I can't accept that. I mean, it's your mom's locket…shouldn't you keep it?" Tea replied as she quickly refused his gift.
"No, it's okay Tea. You can have it." Seto pushed the locket back to Tea, "My mom meant a lot to me, and so do you. That's why I want you to have it."
"Thanks Seto. You mean a lot to me too. So I want you to have this." Tea reached into her shirt pocket and pulled out a little ring, her parents' engagement ring.
"W-what?! You can't give me that! You should keep-"
"I want you to have it Seto! I won't take `no' for an answer!" Tea insisted.
"Alright. But what should it represent?" Seto asked, deeply wondering what Tea would say.
"How about this? I'll give you that ring, if you promise to marry me when we are old enough, okay?" Tea said as she bent over to hug Seto.
"Okay, I promise. I'll search you out and ask you to marry me when we are older."
"Thanks Seto! I think that it's time for you to go now. Oh, one last thing that I wanted to give you before you go," Tea said as she leaned dangerously close to Seto's nervous face…to give him a quick peck on the lips. It was an innocent act, but she didn't know how much it would affect Seto and Tea's future, "I want you to be careful, okay? For me?"
"I will. For you." Seto said as he got up to leave.
"Seto! Time to go!" They heard a voice yell from the front of the orphanage… it was Mr. Taisaku.
"Well, this is it. Our final goodbye Tea." Seto said as he -for the first time- hugged TEA, not the other way around. "I'll be seeing you, okay?"
"Okay, bye…Seto." Tea said as Seto released her, tears streaming down her unmarked youthful face.
"Bye." And with that word, Seto left the orphanage…unaware of the horrors that awaited him at the Kaiba mansion and of the brunette that he would meet again when they both turn 16.
