CHAPTER FOUR

WHO IS PRETTIEST OF THEM ALL?

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I am Seto Kaiba, hosting year 2003's Miss Duel Monsters Pageant. I however have no interest in hosting such a competition like this, but under certain conditions, I have been forced too. Now lets begin this time-wasting contest and get it over with. I hope you enjoy the show, but you most likely won't."

The editing system that broadcasted this to the world obviously left out a certain things that Seto Kaiba had said. Instead of what he intended for the world to hear, it turned out to say: "Ladies and Gentlemen, I am Seto Kaiba, hosting year 2003's Miss Duel Monsters Pageant. I have interest in hosting a competition like this. Now lets begin this contest. I hope you enjoy the show."

Backstage, the ladies were shuffling around, applying the last amounts of makeup before they had to walk onstage. Seto Kaiba had talked to them about what they had to do, and that the judges were going to hold up a number from 1-10 as they walked up on stage. They would be called up one at a time and at the end of the show, their score will be calculated all together as long as the rest of the things they would be doing.

Serenity met up with Tea, Katrina, and Mai backstage. They were astonished that there were so many pretty girls competing against them. Even Mai admitted that this would be a hard contest. They heard from on stage, Seto Kaiba was introducing last year's "Miss Queen of Duel Monsters."

Katrina looked at the other three girls and asked, "Would you guys know who the judges are?"

At that very moment, Seto Kaiba cleared his voice and announced the judges to stand up. "The judges for this contest are : Yugi Muto, Joseph Wheeler, Tristan Taylor, Ryou Bakura, and Simon Cowell."

"Oh my god, those people are our friends!" Tea screamed.

"Good, we have a better chance this way," Mai said. "I'm worried about this Simon Cowell guy. Has any of you heard of him?"

"Yea! He's the judge from American Idol. Oh my god, with him… we're all going to lose. EVERYONE!" Katrina exclaimed.

"Now lets start with our walk by beauty contest. The girls will be one by one called up onstage, the judges will putting up the score. They will appear up on your screen, and I will also being announcing the score. Okay, now lets start out with . . . Tiffany Allen from Springsdale." As each judge held up their score, Seto read it off: "Yugi 7, Joey 6, Tristan 8, Bakura 6, and Simon 2!" Following Tiffany were many other girls. Finally one of the group was called up.

"Tea Gardner from Domino City," Seto Kaiba announced. Tea walked up in her satin blue dress and looked down at the audience and the judges and sweetly smiled. She saw Joey's jaw drop and saw him whisper something to Yugi. She hadn't told any of them that she was joining, and she probably shocked them. Seto's voice came back on and said, "Yugi gives Tea a 9, Joey 6, Tristan 5, Bakura 8, and Simon 4!"

Tea got off the stage and trampled into where the others were sitting. "WHAT IN THE WORLD WAS TRISTAN AND THAT SIMON GUY TRYING TO DO?" Tea screamed.

"Chill down," Katrina said. "Altogether you have 32 points. That's pretty high!"

They listened to Seto announce the next girl up. "Ishizu Ishtar from … Domino City?" Ishizu walked up, a little angry that Seto Kaiba had the questioning tone about where she came from. She had clearly stated on the form that she was from Domino City. "Yugi gives Ishizu 7, Joey 6, Tristan 6, Bakura 8, and Simon 4."

To comfort Tea, Mai pointed out that Ishizu had not earned as many points as her. Tea was still in a fit of anger at Tristan and still planned to somehow get back at him. Katrina however shifted uncomfortably because she knew she was coming up soon.

"Katrina Lee from Domino City," Seto Kaiba called. Katrina got up and walked onto the stage. Everything about her was not much above average, but her smile got everyone every single time. She was in a baby blue one strapped dress that Mai had pointed out to her. Once she got up to the middle of the stage she smiled sweetly, even catching Seto's attention. "Katrina is given by Yugi a 8, Joey 9, Tristan 8, Bakura 7, and Simon 6."

When Katrina got back, Mai and Tea high fived her and told her she had probably gotten the highest score so far. Still they waited until Serenity and Mai would come up, but obviously they were towards the end, since Seto was going in alphabetical order. Seto was into the S's and there was a girl that caught their attention.

"Maryanne Summers from Death Valley?" Seto Kaiba read it off. There must have been a typo. Did anyone live in Death Valley? Seto looked at the girl. She was peculiarly strange. She was in fact pretty, but there was something weird about her. Something he couldn't tell. Maybe the judges might see what was wrong he thought. Most unfortunately, they didn't. "Maryanne receives a 8 from Yugi, 9 from Joey, 9 from Tristan, 7 from Bakura, and 3 from Simon." At least Simon noticed something weird, Seto thought. He smiled. Simon and him were so much alike.

"Monika Tylers from Domino City," Seto Kaiba said.

Backstage, Katrina and Tea were in shock. "Monika Tylers? The one from school?" Katrina asked.

Tea ran up and peeked through the curtain. "Looks like it. But she's so much prettier. Take a look for yourself."

Katrina looked at her, "You're right. She looks different with makeup, a dress on, and she did something cute to her hair."

"Yugi gives Monika a 7, Joey a 5, Tristan a 4, Bakura a 9, Simon a 6."

Katrina stared at the score. "Poor girl. She isn't given too high because of her reputation at school. Look at Joey's and Tristan's score. That's so mean."

Tea agreed but noticed Bakura's unusually high school. "At least Bakura noticed."

After a few more girls, Mai was finally called up. She got on stage and of course, her charm got everybody. "Yugi gives Mai a 9, Joey a 10, Tristan a 9, Bakura a 9, and Simon a 7."

Right after Mai was called up, Serenity was called up. Serenity was in a cute pink dress, and two of her biggest fans were the judges: Her big brother and Tristan. Out in the audience she saw Duke holding up a sign with one arm saying: "Serenity!" She smiled slightly as Kaiba read off her score: "Yugi 8, Joey 10, Tristan 10, Bakura 7, Simon 6."

Seto Kaiba had read gone through the rest of the list and ended with Sarah Zoroni. Finally, Seto Kaiba wrapped it up for the day by saying his speech. "This is all of the girls that has entered in this contest. But most unfortunately, many have been eliminated. Only the girls that have scored 30 points or higher have made it to the next round, where they must dress up as a duel monster. Now, the girls that will be showing up for the next event are: Michelle Allen, Brianna Barlow, Shanaya Blair, Katie Brooks, Natalie Do, Tea Gardner, Ishizu Ishtar, Jenna Johnson, Heather Kambell, Katrina Lee, Grace Marigold, Lydia Mitchell, Rita Namoko, Tricia Pham, Sakura Raneshi, Maryanne Summers, Monika Tylers, Yamoka Uchizono, Mai Valentine, Serenity Wheeler, and Sarah Zoroni. Congratulations girls and tomorrow you will have your next contest. Sleep well."

After this, the guests had emptied out and the girls were congratulating the girls that had made it to the next round. Tea, Katrina, Mai, and Serenity jumped off the stage and walked over to the judges panel, greeting their friends.

"TRISTAN! WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!" Tea yelled at Tristan pulling on his ear.

Mai walked angrily over to Simon that she had only gotten a 7 from him. Katrina and Serenity giggled as they watched Tea and Mai fight with the judges.

Seto Kaiba walked around backstage looking for Ishizu. Once he found her he asked her automatically, "Which one was your brother?"

She looked at him and answered, "I don't know."

"YOU DON'T KNOW? He's your brother, you can't tell?"

"Most unfortunately, no," Ishizu said.

"Can't you use your magic or something?" Seto asked earnestly.

"No, my millennium necklace tells the future, not tells the difference between a man or woman."

"Okay, I don't have a clue as to who he might be. HOW AM I GOING TO STOP HIM AND TELL MY JUDGES?" Seto asked.

"Most of your judges know who he is, just tell them to keep watch for him."

Seto raised his eyebrow. "I don't know if that will work."

"Why not?"

"My judges aren't as smart as you think. Most unfortunately Joey Wheeler is one of them."

"Then you must trust them, and you must also trust in your own instincts. I must go now, and get ready for tomorrow."

"Right," Kaiba said, and watched her leave.

After Tea and Mai were done yelling at the judges, Yugi stated that it was actually pretty fun. Katrina had to agree and so did Bakura. From the far corner, no one noticed Monika eyeing Bakura and wondering how she had gotten such a high score from him.

A/N: Wow… So many numbers! Okay, if you guys don't know who Simon Cowell is, he is the judge from American Idol. If you haven't seen that show, watch it. [Clay Shoulda Won] Of course, Simon will be funnier later on when he has a speaking part. If you don't know his personality already, he over exaggerates the truth. In other words, if you suck, he will tell you that.

Sorry if you guys don't like using last names. I'm just used to calling people by their last name being that I'm in a few sports and that's what I get from my coach. I am known by my last name on my teams.
