Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Nine Lives ❯ Pack Daughter ( Chapter 1 )
[ P - Pre-Teen ]
Yay!! I wrote the first chapter of Nine Lives. I shall try hard to put more Yu-Gi-Oh! references in the many chapters. Anyway, reviews are appreciated as always, and second opinions get cookies. All righty then, enjoy *makes sweeping gestures to a nonexistent audience*…
Rating: I'd say anyone over twelve can read it safely
Warnings for the whole Fanfic (so no one comes out mentally damaged):
No sex, Yaoi, or Yuri (remind me how that is a warning again)
A goodly amount of MarySue goodness (I don't know if everyone shall classify it as marysue, but currently, I do. I may feel differently once I have written a few chapters)
Possibility of lameness
No Tea bashing
There will be things that are uncomfortable to some people, like; blood in some places, animals that aren't humans not being dumb and stupid…additional warning for things like that will be posted at the beginning of each chapter
Insanity! Insanity!!! INSANITY!!! Yes, I am insane. I do not suffer from insanity. I live for every minute of it.
The story subject to editing as I learn more of the Dawn of A Duel (Pharaoh's Memory) Arc
I am a Christian, and put Christian stuff in my fan fics. I do not put down other people if they are not, but if you can't stand reading about it, then don't read.
Songfic I shall try to have a song for each chapter, but sometimes, one just doesn't fit
Well, I'm sure all you readers are very bored and want to read the fic, but HOLD ON. I have one more clarification, RIQOTC means Random Irrelevant Quote (s) Of The Chapter. Under it I shall post the quote (s) I am thinking about the most as I am writing the Chapter. Don't skip it, you shall learn some valuable tips and wisdoms and humours from it.
RIQOTC:
“I tried to write you something briefer but I didn't have the time.” ~I believe Mark Twain
“By reading this you allowed me brief control of your mind.” ~A tee shirt
Disclaimer: I don't own Yu-Gi-Oh!, Egypt, Microsoft, Circle of Life, by Elton John, or the stupid lawyers just waiting for a fanfic writer to slip and forget to put in a disclaimer. I do, however, own a laptop, a copy of Microsoft word, a Media Miner account, a deck of Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, a deck case with hieroglyphics on it, Alanna, and a very creative imagination.
This=song lyrics
This, This, and that, and something or other=text/story
Now, the fic…

“For light was made,
For light will fall
A part of fate,
Another call.
A king is born, an angel made,
Same yet different, for both will fall
For light yet dark, for both were made,
For light to save, and light to call.
In this world, good can't be told,
For in light lies dark, and in dark lies light.
Lives return, however old,
To do what must, and fight for right.
He who sends her to her fate,
May be also her redeemer,
For with two faces, one you hate,
One can never tell the victor.
Weak and strong,
Pale and bright.
One is wrong,
And one is right.”
Lost…

From the day we arrive on the planet
Magic abounds throughout the entire land of Egypt. It is always there, if you know where to look. And within the hearts of everyone, there lurks the shadow. Well, almost everyone. Two were born that day, without the shadow in their hearts. They were born on opposite ends of the hierarchy, one within the palace, as a prince…and one outside the palace, a commoner and likely future servant. They were both quite odd looking, even as babies; one with dark brown eyes, lit with hope, and one with purple eyes, glowing with innocence and purity, unlike his elder twin brother's, whose were full of strength and strategy. The two boys would meet someday, for though the prince was the youngest of the twins, he was what he was, and what he was was nothing short of remarkable, for those whose hearts were lit with light were very rare, and very special.
And blinking, step into the sun
The prince was named Yugi (A/N: Dun Dun Dun…), and the parents of the other boy, though they didn't know it, gave their son the same name as a look-alike soon-to-be thief, Bakura (A/N: See earlier A/N). As it was fated to be by the magic of the baby girl, the baby for whom time stood still. As the last familiar figure left her, the ice of time encased her, refusing to let go, for as long as no figure came to raise her, to make her be born fully, for she had a mother, and yet she did not, for her mother that was not precisely her mother, had wed the Pharaoh months before, and given birth to twin boys, Atemu and Yugi. Atemu was the eldest and the likeliest to rule Egypt, but Yugi had something about him, for in him was the light that was so rare. The light which graced the hearts of two in one generation, and…in a way three. The light whose power was underestimated, but was the most powerful of all. The light, which needed dark to keep it balanced, the dark which graced the heart of his twin brother. The dark which Bakura had no access to, but his light was of less purity and more easily controlled. So as the two grew older, their light gave them no troubles.
There's more to see than can ever be seen
It gave no troubles as well, to the baby that waited years. The saying goes “Magic cometh by threes or it cometh not at all” (A/N: I made that up from the original saying, “Magic goeth by threes”). And true to this, it had been three years, three years since the baby drifted into existence, when she was found by someone, and so it was that Grace and the baby found each other…
Grace was a happy wolf. She had two rambunctious cubs, and she was in a place safe from humans. Yet she had always felt like something was missing. The pack had told her it was because she didn't have three cubs, for that was the way they worked. Three was their number. She was walking to the river for a drink, caring for cubs took a lot out of her. A drink wouldn't hurt. Little did she know as she got close to the river, did the ice around the baby melt, and time no longer stood still for her. `am I thirsty' thought Grace, `I really need…what the!' Grace cocked her head.
More to do than can ever be done
She hadn't seen a human baby in a long time. Wolves like her couldn't go near them; they would throw fire and shadow, and hurt them. But a little baby looked safe enough. `But where there's smoke there's fire,' she warned herself, “If the cub is here, the mother is bound to be here as well.” But the baby looked so helpless and alone, so like her cubs at home when they were waiting for her to return from hunting. She thought, “Some mother has lost her cub, and probably misses her cub as well. But, I can't just leave it there…” Mind made up, she trotted over to the baby, it stopped crying and stared at her in shock, amazement, and fear. She wavered, those grey eyes watched her with fear, and yet not.
There is far too much to take in here
She made gentle sounds to calm the baby like she did with her cubs. The baby quieted slightly, but still fearful. Then, she gently and swiftly closed her teeth around a fold of blanket, and carried her off, head held high. No matter the consequences, she would take care of the baby. Little did she know that in doing this, she sealed a hoop, one that depicted the girl's family. For though neither Grace nor her mate had created her, they had become the girl's mother and father by taking her in. As Grace approached the pack, she put the baby down, and howled, to alert the pack of her presence.
More to find than can ever be found
She then picked up the baby again, and walked very slowly to the large rock where her pack now waited. “What is that Grace?” asked Kala, the alpha female. “It is a human cub,” she replied, “I found it by the great river. It was all alone, and didn't seem to have anybody to protect it, so I have decided to raise her as my own” “HUMAN!!” screeched Purcin (Kala's brother), “THEIF, MURDERER!! KILL IT!!” “Purcin settle down,” snapped Kala, “I will not have us falling to pieces. I believe that Grace did the right thing. For just as a wolf can be bad, a human can be good. Now Grace, have you decided what you will call the human cub?”
But the sun rolling high
“I believed that the entire pack should decide what to name her, for not only is that logical, but I can't think of one,” replied Grace. “Well,” cut in Tili, a young wolf, “I think that we should give her a human name, should she ever decide to return to her own kin.” “That is an excellent idea. And I believe you, who know all the stories best, should think of possible names. For you know more human names than the entire pack put together,” finished Kala, giving no sign at Tili's interruption, “I know there are few stories with humans in them, even fewer with human females, and even fewer that give a name, but please try.”
Through the sapphire sky
“Hmm,” mused Tili, pleased at having everyone focused on him, “let's see, there's not any that fit at all, I think we'll have to-WAIT! I got it. There is one name that fits her perfectly.” “Good, tell it to me now, and we shall bestow it upon her as we bring her into the pack with the binding ceremony.” So Tili walked over to Kala, and whispered the name in her ear. Kala nodded in agreement, “That name fits her quite well. Go now, sing the gather song, and bring the pack to the waterhole.”
Keeps great and small on the endless round
So Grace and Tili sang the song, howling in the way that strikes awe and terror into the hearts of humans, except for the heart of the little girl's, for she was now the little wolf girl, and would soon be part of the pack. And thus was the pack gathered at the waterhole where Kala pushed a sharp stone around, and they all cut the pads on their paws, and allowed a drop of blood to drip onto a leaf, and brought the baby to the leaf.
It's the circle of life
And it moves us all
Through despair and hope
And it moves us all
Through despair and hope
Grace carefully picked up the stone with her teeth, and made a small cut on the baby's back where it wouldn't do the baby much harm. Slowly, a drop of blood fell onto the leaf. Grace and Kala pushed the baby gently onto the leaf. And Kala began her speech, “Dear child of man, it is a great honor to be welcomed into our pack, and an honor I hope you will carry proudly. As you lie there, the blood of your kin intertwines with yours. By becoming pack daughter, you will have our protection, and one day we shall have yours. You will bear the mark of your kin forever,”
Through faith and love
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
she paused, and rolled the baby onto her stomach, away from the leaf, dipped her paw in the water to cleanse it, and reopened the cut on her paw, and lifted her paw up, just above the scratch on the baby's back. She continued, “By the moon which we sing to, as its rays touch you, you shall become one with the pack.” Silence grew around the water, as the wolves waited for the moon rays. You could have heard a pin drop in the grass, it was so quiet. Seconds, it truly was, but it seemed like an eternity to all those present. Finally, the wind shifted the trees ever so slightly, but it was enough to let the moon shine through the clearing, where the strategically placed baby now was bathed in moonlight.
In the circle
The circle of life
With perfect timing, Kala placed her paw on her back, directly above the cut. “By blood and moonlight, you become pack daughter. I name you, Alanna.” And so it was that Alanna became part of the Golden Sand Pack, and was given a family.
It's the circle of life
And it moves us all
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the circle
The circle of life
And it moves us all
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the circle
The circle of life

A/N: That chapter is longer on its own than all the chapters of How the Beginning Began put together. I am so proud of myself. Please, review. How the Beginning Began has been visited 40 times, and not one review. If you review, I WILL respond. If I ever start getting a lot of reviews, then it might take a while, but PLEASE review. I am dying, I crave reviews. *decides to write a fifty page essay on why you should review* In the meantime, I shall be writing the next chapter. It took me a week to finish this chapter, and it's only, 3000 or so words, including song lyrics and poem. My, I am going to have such a headache once I finish this fanfic. Okay, got nothing else to say, Cheerio (yes, I am insane)!!
