Passion and Blood
Chapter 7
Jou looked at Yami questioningly. When the older boy sighed and opened his eyes, the crimson windows to the soul revealing that he was, indeed, far older than he looked and weary of life. "The story starts in ancient Egypt, when I was just a young pharaoh. The whole problem started when I was told I had to take a wife so I could have an heir to the throne. I chose the girl that was rumored to be the most beautiful in all of Thebes. Sekkena, with her long black hair and intriguing green eyes, truly was the most beautiful girl in all Egypt. I did not love her, but we became the best of friends. The one I loved…" Yami paused, and then corrected himself, "thought I loved, was the high priest, Seto," Yami glanced at Seto with an expression of guilt.
"Just go on, Yami," Seto pushed.
"Little did I know that Sekkena's father had already arranged a marriage with one of the nobles, an oddly sadistic individual by the name of Bakura. Looking back, I believe that Bakura may truly have been in love with Sekkena. But of course, if the Pharaoh wants the hand of your daughter in marriage, you would not refuse him, even if you had previously agreed to give her to another man. Had Sekkena's father only told me that she was already engaged, I may have gone on to find a different bride and none of this would have happened. But he did not, and so I must go on with my story.
Bakura may have thought that I had knowingly stolen his bride, and so he went about thinking of a way to have his revenge on me. He started by convincing Seto that I was disloyal to our relationship, using his ability with Shadow Magick to pull it off more completely. At this time, there was a spell that supposedly enabled eternal life at the price of blood; it would turn one into a khasthi, an immortal. However, the hieroglyphics were incomplete, forcing them to be guessed at. An improperly pronounced spell with blood involved as a tool means a gruesome death for the one the spell is being performed on. Perhaps that was why he chose that particular spell.
No one could have predicted that Seto would correctly guess at the words of the spell. Bakura was the one restraining me as the spell was being said, and he expected me to die in his arms. When I fell to the ground, he let go of me, never expecting that I would reach up for him, biting and clawing like a mad beast. I was blinded by the sun, and I couldn't really tell that it was Bakura's blood I was drinking. I never even knew it was blood, I only knew that it sated a horrible thirst I started feeling when the blood-mixture used as a tool was forced down my throat," Yami stopped his story there.
"Hold on, you're telling me that you're a vampire?" Jou asked, unbelievingly.
"Not as you know it. I'm saying that I am a khasthi, an immortal that gained this kind of life at the price of blood. It's not just my own blood, it's the blood of others that I need in order to keep living. I saw Yuugi, and I felt that Fate had led me to him. I never imagined that Bakura would ruin anybody's life again. But he was reborn, and he chose to make me suffer through Yuugi's pain," Yami explained.
Seto picked up the explanation, "Knowing Bakura, he will go after everyone close to Yuugi, and then Yuugi himself. No one is safe unless they're here with Yami. You're better off staying here, Jounouchi."
"Huh? Oh, okay. Not that I believe any of this 'vampire' stuff, after all. What I do believe is that whatever psycho is out to get to Yuugi might be after me."
Yami clenched his fists. "You want proof that what I've said is true? Come with me upstairs, I'll show you…" he said quietly, his voice seething with anger.
Jounouchi watched Yami bite into the palm of his hand with horror. Then as Yami put it close to Yuugi's mouth, the short teen unconsciously moved closer, biting and tearing the wound so more blood flowed into his mouth. Yami looked as though what Yuugi was doing really hurt him, but the older boy didn't make any sound of pain; he only brushed Yuugi's bangs away from his eyes with his other hand.
When Yuugi leaned back and sighed contentedly, Yami looked at his hand. Tendons and bones were showing, and blood was quickly welling up, replacing what had been lost. Yami closed his wounded hand into a fist, a few droplets of blood making rivulets down his arm. When he re-opened his hand, only the blood was there, and no wound. Licking up the sticky fluid, he flashed a smile at Jou, making sure his elongated and needle-sharp canines were showing. "Is that proof enough?"
Jounouchi only nodded dumbly, unable to even think coherently. "Good, then maybe now you'll help Seto and myself think of a way to stop Bakura."
MR: I know, it's a little shorter than the last chapter. The point is, I got all I needed to get into the chapter in only two pages! With author's notes, to boot! *is proud of herself* R&R, peeps!
