Title: Past Present and Future

Author: purkle dragon goddess

Rating: For now, PG

Pairing(s): Atemu x Set, Yami ->Yugi

Original Characters:

Type: yaoi

Status: multipart (1/?)

Spoilers: Well...ummm, yes possibly for anything in the Ancient Egyptian arc. Yami's real name...although I think I'm making up most of the rest.

Disclaimer: I don't own Yugioh or anything related to it; I'm just borrowing the boys for a little while and promise to return them only slightly used. In addition, if this seems familiar, I don't own the ep of BtVS I'm taking the idea from...I just plan to go further than Joss did with the idea.

Summary: Doubts are cast on his life, as Yugi's other form when Yami experiences life in-between Ancient Egypt, as Pharaoh, and modern day Domino. What is the truth, his life with Yugi or Set?

Authors Note: Yes, I do realize there was never a name, cannon wise given to the High Priest. No, I am not using Seth. Everything I have ever learned about Egyptian Mythology gave the name Seth to one of the Gods. It would have been wrong for a God fearing Egyptian to use one of their names for a child...part of the name yes (see various Pharaohs of Ancient times).

It was a dream. It had to be. How else could he possibly explain seeing Bakura in a tutu dancing across the room? Actually, it looked to be the Spirit of the Ring, so there was no way it was real. Nonetheless, he did dance quite nicely. It was either the death scene from Swan Lake or maybe the Sugar Plum Fairy's dance from the Nutcracker. He wasn't sure, but it was very pretty watching Bakura running around in tights...that is until the teacher called Yugi's name.

Yugi looked up at her wondering how she got in his dream before he remembered where he really was. Seventh period, Mathematics, school! With eyes wide open, he starred at her muttering an apology about not feeling well. It must have shown on his face. With only ten minutes left to the school day she let him leave class, accompanied by his friends Jounouchi and Honda, but only after making them promise to get Yugi right home. It wouldn't do to have an ill student fall on the way home by himself.

Yugi made it home most of the way by himself, if you didn't count the last five blocks that his friends had to carry him between them. Neither boy recalled ever seeing the small duelist in such condition; after all didn't the Millennium Puzzle and Yami keep him healthy? Speaking of which...where was Yami, they wondered. The Spirit of the Puzzle was always in charge when there was a threat to his other. Wasn't an illness a threat? Didn't it matter to the Spirit that Yugi was delusional? For on the way, he kept speaking of his missing life. They dismissed the idea, figuring that just maybe they were imaging things, after all who could possibly understand the rantings of someone in a fever, for the boy was burning up under their touch.

He stood watching the lone figure on the throne. No one else would notice the slight difference in his posture, the way his words seemed to come at a more thoughtful pace. No one but the one who knew him so well. Something was wrong, and he didn't like it at all. It was time to end the processional for this day. He signaled to the guards, and then watched as they started to move the people out of the room before approaching the Pharaoh. "My Pharaoh, it has been a long day. Perhaps before the night's meal you would like to rest."

The petioning by the people had worn him out more than usual he had to agree. Laying his head down upon his bed held a wonderful image to him. "Come with me Priest. We have need to talk." He stood, slower than normal, again only noticed by the one, and headed to his chambers followed a respectful pace behind by said Priest.

The guards wearily eyed the man as he followed the Pharaoh into his room. No one else ever dared to enter this way, then again the Pharaoh never allowed anyone else to enter. It wasn't their place to question the judgment of the living god; they were just men after all. However, if anything were to happen to him, they would kill the first person they came to, be he thief or priest.

Walking inside the Pharaoh's private chambers the Priest was surprise when the back of his head met forcefully with the wall behind him. He looked down into the crimson eyes of his Pharaoh, his god incarnate, who was holding him back with such strength it sent a wave of shock through his body. A smirk crossed his face, "I thought we needed to talk." The Pharaoh pulled his head down capturing the mouth of the Priest in a kiss, taking away any chance he had to complain more. The heat coming off the Pharaoh's form was impossible. He struggled to break off their kiss, the need for his thought overriding the want and need from his lust. "We need to call a healer, your body burns."

"Only for you my love, I've waited for you all day, listening to the peasants and their petty complaints." He released his hold on the taller man then walked over to the bed sitting down on the edge. A hand rose towards the Priest, asking him to come. "You worry too much."

"It's my job." He knelt down at the Pharaoh's feet, "I have to make sure you are safe for the good of the country." A displeased frown crossed the Pharaoh's face at this statement. "I want to make sure you are safe for me. I don't want anything to happen to you."

"And nothing will Set as long as you sit there talking. Come up to me. Besides the fact that you look silly on the floor, you will be the one to get ill." He could see the concern in the other's eyes. "Fine, go call for a healer if that will stop this worrying of yours. But afterwards you will be making it up to me in so many ways."

"You know I really just want to make sure you're alright." He stood to leave, first stopping to kiss his lovers head. It felt even warmer now; this was not a good sign. "I will be right back. Why don't you wait for me to return in bed? That way when the healer pronounces you well enough, we can get to my making it up to you."

The Pharaoh agreed that this was a good idea and started to undress, "I always knew you were a smart boy Set. Hurry back with this healer of yours so we can get to more interesting uses of the time."

Yugi's friends stayed with him while his grandfather went to the pharmacy to get some medicine for the boy. Both boys were starting to worry even more since Yugi had past out as soon as they got to his home. They tried several times to get a response from either him or Yami to no avail. When Yugi's Grandfather returned, he promised both of them he would have Yugi call as soon as he was able, but that he really should rest at least for the night ahead. Jounouchi and Honda left knowing they would be worried about their friend until they heard from him.

Upstairs unable to discern reality from the odd fantasy that his head seemed fogged with, Yugi called out the one name he knew for sure was real besides his own. He couldn't understand why no one answered him though. There was a door blocking his way, he knew this door, had traveled through it before many times. It was Yami's door but now it wouldn't open to him, refusing to move at his touch. Banging on the door, Yugi called out to his other but still no answer came from within…

The Priest returned as soon as he could with a trusted healer from the city. He prayed to the gods that he was just imagining things. It would destroy the country for the Pharaoh, the eternally reborn god Ra, to be ill. Gods did not get sick. Die, well yes they died but only when their new bodies where ready for them.

They entered the Pharaoh's chambers, and the Priest went to reawaken the sleeping form lying on the bed. "My Pharaoh, the healer is here to see you."

Scarlet eyes slowly opened, out of focus, seeming to stare through him. "Kaiba? What are you doing here?" The eyes blinked a few times more trying to clear the fog that clouded them.

The Priest turned to look at the healer demanding answers for the Pharaoh's sounds. Neither one had understood the strange words, it caused both to worry even more so than originally. "Pharaoh?"

"Set, please do not shout. My head feels like the Nile has flown over into it." He sat up looking at the men in his chambers.

"I apologize, my voice was displeasing to you." He bowed his head to the Pharaoh, kneeling at the same time and pulling the healer down with him. "It seems that you were still in Atraxia's arms when we arrived."

"Arise. I shall deal with you later Priest. For now let us see this healer of yours, so they may leave as soon as possible."

The only thing found after a thorough exam by the healer was that the Pharaoh was feverish. Set was ready to toss the healer out on his ear he had already known that. The healer did leave some herbs to seep for tea that the Pharaoh was to drink right away and then again later if the fever did not leave. Before he left, the healer did pull the Priest out of the room to speak privately.

"I do not like this fever, there is always a cause for the body to react such. But in this case there is no obvious other signs of distress." He watched the Priest to determine if he understood his words. "I am also not sure how often Atraxia sends a lover into a foreign land, but if he speaks these strange words again come and get me immediately. They may have a further meaning." He turned then, leaving the Priest with his own thoughts on the matter.

Before walking back into the chambers of the Pharaoh, the Priest called for a servant to bring a pot of hot water to make the tea the healer had left with them. He took the water and herbs back into the room determined that the Pharaoh was going to drink all of them if that was what would be required.

The Pharaoh was still sitting up on the bed waiting for his return. "I do believe you owe me something." A disappointed look crossed his face when the Priest handed him the tea. "This is not what I was talking about, lay with me now Priest for your healer found nothing wrong with me."

"Drink first. Because that's not exactly true. You are feverish, he just didn't find out why." He stood still waiting for the Pharaoh to start drinking the herbs before he agreed to the command. Sitting down next to the Pharaoh, he noticed the heat coming off the barely covered body did seem less. It could have been the fact that the exposed skin was open to the air, cooling it or just maybe the healer's herbs were already working. Either way, he felt better as long as the Pharaoh was better.

"You are too deep in thought Priest, leave it for the night." He turned the Priest's face to his capturing Set's lips once again. Soft and hungry at the same time, lips pressed hard against each other in a fierce need forcing all thoughts from the day out of mind. The slight bitter taste of the herbs still lingered in the Pharaoh's mouth and through the kiss, the Priest breathed them in, their scent mingling in his head with the normal intoxicating scent of his love. He barely felt the hands sliding over his body, stripping him of the robes he wore. The cooler air caressed his skin and he longed for the warmth of his lover's touch.

A part of his mind that still decided to work poked at him; if he was feeling the temperature drop so would the other, "Atemu you are going to catch something."

"Yes I am…you." His hands wondered over the nude form of his bedmate, stroking the fine muscles that made up his chest. "I told you, I've been longing for this all day. Don't deny me Set, not now."

Set looked into the large crimson eyes, "When have I ever denied you anything? I'm yours…forever."
