Chapter 7
“We must do something!”
“You've been saying that for the past six months, Seto. Yet none of our plans have come to fruition.” Akunadin said in exasperation. Seto scowled.
Ka dueling was out of the question. Poison had failed. Minor magic spells had just vanished, or were reflected backwards. Yuugi had been their best bet, except he was now quite dead and there was little chance of the same trick working twice.
Akunadin rubbed his temples in irritation. There had to be some way…
It was not that he didn't know how to run Egypt, Karim decided. Behind those vacant eyes lurked a mind that could be quite sharp. Alas, almost all of its attention was focused on the Ka monster within its heart.
Mahaado - Karim still thought of the Ka monster as him, because it looked too much like Mahaado - nodded as he turned to the scribe. The man handed over the papyrus scrolls with a shaking hand. The last man who had tried to hand the Pharaoh his reports had been stabbed.
But afterwards, when they had examined the body, they had noticed that the scrolls were coated with contact poison. Shadah spent a week vomiting up his guts because he had grabbed them on accident.
Yami flipped through the reports, eyes scanning. Finally, he picked up his pen and began to write.
At least something was getting done.
He could rule Egypt, but he really didn't want to. He didn't like doing it, but he was Pharaoh now and he was supposed to, so he listened to Mother's suggestions and tried to do his best, and hoped that they could go back to the Sanctuary.
It was too open here.
He wanted to go home. But Mother was here with him, and that helped.
The next attack came without warning. Aishizu should have seen it, but as she could not read the futures of those who held the Items, and the Pharaoh held two, it was to be expected. Plus, Seto wielded the Sennen Rod…
Where - and when - had Seto gotten so powerful?
The Blue Eyes White Dragon roared.
Yami looked frightened. Of course he did. The Dragon had breathed white lightning at him and Mother had snapped forwards to protect him but now… now he couldn't feel her anymore!
Seto stepped forwards, and Yami panicked. His hands went automatically to the Sennen Puzzle around his neck.
That was a fatal mistake, as he began to dissolve into mist the moment he touched it. A moment later, the Puzzle fell to the ground and shattered, the Ring and the Puzzle separate once more.
The spell had worked.
Their spirits were now bound, and they would cause no more trouble. Akunadin gave a sigh of relief.
It was over.
And so, that was how Seto ascended to his position as Pharaoh of Egypt.
And in the Sennen Puzzle, two spirits waited for the day when they could take their revenge.
Yami sighed as Mahaado put his arms around him, keeping the chill of the labyrinth at bay. The room they were in pulsed, winding into a maze of traps and terrors.
That maze would keep everyone out. And he would be able to protect his precious Pharaoh for eternity.
“Mother?” Yami asked sleepily.
“Shh. Sleep now, Yami. You need to rest and recover.” He coaxed, and the boy-king closed his eyes.
Mahaado smiled, a long slow smile that did not touch his eyes, which were the vacant blue of a summer sky.
I will always protect you, my Pharaoh. Always.

Crappy ending, I know. I'm notoriously bad at endings
And that is why Yami was really sealed in the Puzzle. *Cough*
And its only weeks after I write this that I notice Mahaado's eyes turned blue in the end instead of their normal silver. I have no idea what this signifies or if it's just a typo. Oops!
