Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Promise ❯ Promise ( One-Shot )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Yu-Gi-Oh! and it's characters are respectfully the property of people far more creative than I could ever dream to be. I've simply borrowed them for this little story…

Don't leave me comments about the inaccuracy of it: I haven't seen enough of the show to know all the hard facts. Phrases like "Living God" are taken from Egyptian lore: The pharaoh is considered the Living God.

This is based on a dream I had last night. Almost everything here is exactly how I remember it. Most of this is dialogue, not setting…deal with it.

Without further adieu, I give you the biggest pile of steaming fecal matter I have ever posted on the internet. (I hate when uninformed people write fics. My rule has always been: If you haven't seen an entire series, you shouldn't be reading or writing fanfiction…Apparently, rules were made to be broken… -.-)

"This can't happen!" Seto glared at the Pharaoh, his blue eyes burning with the same intensity they took on when he was dueling.

"It can and it is. I am Pharaoh, aren't I? My word is law."

"Your word means nothing from that trap! Nothing from where you are!"

"Am I not still the Living God, High Mage Seto?" The young pharaoh's eyes glimmered with a hint of mischief and contempt.

"Yes, you are." His voice sounded more humble than he looked, his pride refusing to allow him to look away.

"Then my word is still law."

"Why does this matter? You're gone now. None of this matters anymore."

"Matters of the heart never lose their substance or importance, Seto." The Pharaoh leaned forward, and touched his mage's cheek. "It will always matter to me."

Seto didn't answer him. He closed his eyes, and leaned into the warmth of the pharaoh's hand. His face passed through it, and he was suddenly cold. His eyes darkened, and he looked up.

"Why are you here?"

"To see how much this matters to you, I suppose."

"You are gone. You will remain gone. How you are even here is a complete mystery to me."

"Dreams are powerful things, Seto. As a priest, you really should know that. The magic of dreams is far more powerful between us, because of what we are."

Seto's only response was to scowl.

"Do you wish to see me again, High Priest?"

"I cannot."

"You can. But you have to be patient. And you have to promise."

"Promise what?"

"Promise that this matters to you. Promise you will continue to search for me, as long as you live. Promise me your loyalty. Promise me your life, High Priest. You owe it to me anyway. You live to serve the Living God, do you not?"

"I do."

"Promise."

Seto stared. Is he serious? What kind of twisted joke are you playing with me, Pharaoh?

"Promise!" The pharaoh's voice took on a commanding air. His crimson eyes flashed, and the Eye of Ra on his brow began to glow. Non-existent wind whipped his cloak around him, and he stared Seto directly in the eyes.

"I am not afraid of you, Pharaoh."

"Then promise without fear, High Mage."

"I promise."

With the utterance of those committing words, Seto reached for his pharaoh. He pressed his lips against the other man's hard, and they were solid. When the kiss broke, the young king spoke.

"We will be reborn, you know. The Pharaoh is eternal, and with my blessing, you, too, can be. We will be reborn in a time much different than this. And you must seek me out, there. Until then, this is all I can give you."

"How will I know you?"

"By this." The pharaoh wrapped his long fingers around the pyramid-shaped puzzle he wore on a chain around his neck.

"I will know you by your prison, then, Pharaoh."

"No. You will know me by my Millenium Puzzle."

"The puzzle that takes you from me now."

"The puzzle that will allow me to be reborn. The puzzle that will allow us to find each other again, one day, High Priest."

"So it is done, then?" Seto regarded the pharaoh with evident cynicism.

"Do you really believe it is that simple?"

"No."

"Summon your dragons, Seto."

"Why?"

"Do you trust me, High Priest?"

Seto didn't answer him. He closed his eyes, and held up a card between his fingers. In quick succession, each of his three dragons was summoned. He held up a second card, combining them into their ultimate form.

Meanwhile, the pharaoh was summoning his own monsters. Before him stood three amazingly powerful monsters: The Black Luster Soldier, The Magician of Black Chaos, and the Dark Magician. The three formed a half circle in front of him, and he shimmered a moment, and then appeared in front of them.

The pharaoh held up the card that controlled his Black Luster Soldier. In his other hand was the card that would combine his soldier with Seto's Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon.

"Hold up your card, Seto. Hold up your card, and grant me the power to combine them."

Seto balked. I've given him everything, and by right, everything is his. He is the living god…but…my dragons? Is he asking me to give him control of my dragons?!

"I…can't."

"You can." The pharaoh held out his hand. Seto placed the card in his monarch's hand, and closed his eyes.

"Watch, Seto. Watch and learn. I am not the King of Cards and the Living God for nothing."

Seto watched in awe as the pharaoh held up the two cards. The Polymerization card, the third hard he had held floated up between them. The pharaoh released his hold on the cards, and the spun around each other. The pharaoh's Black Luster Soldier rose up and mounted the massive dragon, securing its place on the monster's back.

"Behold, Seto. The Dragon Master ." The pharaoh held out a card in his hand. One Seto had never seen before. He reached a hand out to touch it. It seemed to ebb with an awesome power.

"That is the power you posses…" Seto mused.

"That is the power that we possess. Together, we are stronger, High Priest."

"Together." Seto echoed.

"And this card is proof of your promise."

"Proof…" Blue eyes glazed over, as the pharaoh wrapped his arms around his priest.

"Yes. Proof. Solid and complete. Because I am the king of cards, and I can create this card to seal this pact."

Seto's eyes closed of their own volition as he felt his pharaoh's breath on his lips.

"I love you, High Priest," he whispered, "and this love gives us power beyond your greatest hopes."

He pressed his lips softly against Seto's, and reached a hand up to touch his face.

This is your promise. This is our pact.

This is eternity…
