Ryou was taking sharp breaths. His hands were holding both side of the sink so hard his knuckles were turning white. He closed his eyes, not wanting to see the yellowish liquid that was soiling the white enamel. The acrid smell of vomit nearly made him throw up again.
He really had to change school - again - he couldn't stand it here anymore. He had thought at first that it was a good thing people weren't paying much attention to him but he had soon started to think otherwise. The other teenagers never talked to him. They never even looked at him. They just kept walking past him, as if he had never existed. Even the teachers had started to do so. Soon, Bakura Ryou ceased existing among the school. Or at least, that was how Ryou felt. He had become... nothing.
All this made him sick - literally.
He left the bathroom a few minutes after he had washed his mouth. He tiptoed to the kitchen without much enthusiasm and opened the fridge. None of its content looked interesting enough. He didn't think his stomach could hold any food yet anyway. His next destination was the living room's couch. He sat down - or rather, slumped down - grabbed the remote control but didn't turn on the television. Instead, he stared at his reflection in the black screen.
"You look like shit," he said out loud. "Not that anybody would care, since you don't exist," he continued with a cynical smile on his lips.
He carelessly let the remote fall on the carpeted floor and stood. He walked to his bedroom and opened the curtains inside. He scornfully glanced at all the presents his father kept sending to him. There were all items he got on excavations. But to Ryou, they were mostly hiding the fact his father didn't know how - or didn't want - to talk to his son. He never bothered to send letters. Ryou felt like he didn't even exist anymore to his father.
With a sigh, the young boy removed his school uniform jacket and lied down on his bed. Sleeping was the best option. When he was asleep, he didn't even exist to himself.
Half an hour passed. Ryou never managed to fall asleep. Instead, he kept staring at a golden object resting on his bedside table. Of all the presents his father had sent to him, it was the only one the teenager actually liked. It was made of pure gold and looked like a dream catcher. He had grown very fond of it and he had even thought about using it as a pendant. He had given up this idea a long time ago because he had feared some people at school would try to steal it. But now that he stopped existing, that argument didn't apply anymore, right?
Ryou stood up, walked to his desk and started looking for some kind of cord he could use to hold the dream catcher. When he found what he was looking for, he grabbed the golden item. Soon, it was hanging around his neck. Ryou closed his eyes and put his hand on the pendant.
"If only somebody - anyone, I really don't care - would acknowledge me. I wish I could exist in the eyes of somebody."
The boy could feel some gentle warm waves emanating from his pendant. Suddenly, he smiled - the first genuine smile he had had in days. His body felt lighter. And it was as if all his worries were vanishing and a kind person was caressing his mind.
Ryou made out to walk a bit but he soon lost his balance. He never felt himself hit the harsh floor. Instead, gentle arms collected him.
"Mine." A voice said. There was greed in its tone but to Ryou, it didn't matter.
If I'm yours, then it means I exist.
And Ryou completely let go of his body.
