Ch.29: Karaoke
Yugi and Atemu walked along the shops, not speaking a word.
`I have to say something.' Yugi thought. `The silence is starting to creep me out.' He looked around and noticed a public bar. “Hey, Atemu.” Yugi said getting attention of the other. “Are you thirsty?” He said. `That was brilliant.' He thought sarcastically.
Atemu looked a bit confused by this. “Why?” He asked.
“Nothing, it's just that I know this public bar and…”
“Public bar?” Atemu asked, cutting off of what Yugi was trying to say.
Yugi took this opportunity. “I'll show you.” He said as he took Atemu's wrist and went across the empty street and went into the bar, which is also a karaoke place.
There was someone that was singing called `Bounce' and the singer sounded pissed off as she sang the lyrics through the mic.
Yugi went up to the counter. “We'll take two lemonades please.” He said as he made that order, then he went over to one of the tables and sat down, still holding onto Atemu's wrist.
“This place is really full of people.” Atemu said as he looked over at the place.
“That's because today is 24 hour karaoke.” Yugi said.
“Come again?” The other said with an eyebrow raised.
“Karaoke is when you get up in front of people or up on stage and there's a T.V. that shows the lyrics to the song and you just sing.” Yugi explained.
“Our next singer today is a young lady, who picked a more calmer song.” An announcer said. “Give it up for Alysia and her partner, Moukaba, who will play the piano.”
“Huh?” They both said as a dim light appeared, revealing Moukaba, starting the piano, while another light shows Alysia, holding the mic.
“Playground school bell rings, again
Rain clouds come to play, again
Has no one told you she's not breathing?
Hello, I'm in your mind, giving you someone to talk to.
Hello
If I smile and don't believe,
Soon I know I'll wake from this dream
Don't try to fix me, I'm not broken
Hello, I'm the light, blinding so you can run and hide, don't cry.”
Moukaba plays the song for what seems to be three minutes, then Alysia begins to sing again.
“Suddenly I know I'm not sleeping!
Hello! I'm still here!
All that's left of yesterday!”
Moukaba played on as the song faded.
Everyone, including Yugi and Atemu, applauded at their performance. Both, Alysia and Moukaba, bowed and walked off the stage and went up to them.
“What's up?” Alysia said as she sat down, so did Moukaba.
“Nothing much really.” Yugi said.
“You were suppose to say ceiling.” Alysia said, expressionless.
“Oh.” Yugi said with a small nervous laugh.
“You need help.” Alysia said as she grabbed the huge glass of lemonade from the waiter.
“Uhmm… One of those drinks are for one of us.” Yugi said as Alysia grabbed two extra straws and handed them to the other two.
“You two couldn't even finish half your glass.” She said as she and Moukaba shared a glass.
Yugi and Atemu were hesitant at first, then did the same.
Atemu could feel his heart going crazy from the obvious closeness of the other. Yugi has the same problem, but both decided to keep it quiet.
“How about you guys sing.” She said with a mischievous smile.
“Huh?” Yugi said as Atemu gave her a what-the-hell-are-you-talking-about look.
“Come on, don't tell me you guys are afraid to go up to a small crowd.” She said. “Besides, I got a song here you might like.” She waved a disc in her hand.
Yugi wondered what it would be like to sing with Atemu. “Alright.” He said as he looked over to the other, who looked at him as though he was crazy.
“Okay then.” Alysia said. “I'll put in the song.” She got out of her seat and went over to a DVD machine and placed the disc in, and grabbed the mic to announce them. “Ladies and gentlemen, we have two new singer here today and it's there first time, so go easy on them, other wise I'll kick all your sorry asses till you see nothing but black and blue.” She made her point loud and clear. “Now that's settled, give it up for Yugi and Atemu!”
`Why did I do this again?' Yugi thought as the dim lights fell onto them and the background music began.
`I know this song!' They both thought, remembered hearing it on the radio and it seemed to be quite a hit, since the stations played it over. They looked at the screen and Atemu took the purple highlighted words.
“I wanted you to know, that I love the way you laugh
I want to hold you high and steal your pain away
I keep your photograph and I know it serves me well
I want to hold you high and steal your pain away.”
Then they both took the words that were highlighted in white.
“Cause I'm broken and I'm open and I don't feel right
Am I strong enough?
Cause I'm broken and I'm lonesome and I don't feel right
When you move away.”
Then Atemu continued.
“You've gone away
You don't feel me here anymore.”
It was Yugi's turn as he sang the words, which were highlighted in red.
“The worst is over now, and we can breath again
I want to hold you high and steal my pain away
There's so much left to learn and no one left to fight
I want to hold you high and steal my pain away.”
They sang the chorus part three times before singing the last part of the song.
“You've gone away
You don't feel me anymore.”
When the song ended, there was and uproar of applause from the crowd.
“You guys were great up there!” Alysia said as all four of them went out of the public bar.
“I guess so.” Yugi said a bit flushed that he got to sing with the former Pharaoh.
“We'll, we better go.” She said. “I promised Moukaba's stubborn ass brother of his that I bring him back home. See you guys around.” She walked away, with Moukaba by her side, grabbing a hold of her hand.
“See you around Alysia.” Yugi said as Atemu waved.
“So, now what?” Atemu said looking at Yugi.
Yugi thought for a moment. “Grandpa might get worried if we don't come home soon.” He said.
Atemu nodded his understanding as he and Yugi walked towards the game shop.
