Seto sat in his study his face buried in his hands 'what in he hell is wrong with me...' he thought he could hardly believe what he had almost done to Ryou...then go a beat the fire out of him for something that wasn't his fault. He loved Ryou he truly did he knew his actions were unforgivable and both Marik and Ryou's brother would want his head...but he didn't care, no not anymore, Ryou would know he loved him and he was sorry for what he had done no matter what Marik and Bakura do. He took out a clean sheet of paper and a pen as he began to write a letter to the one person he thought could love him.
He finished the letter placing it in an envelope, sealing it, and putting Ryou's name on it as he sighed deeply. He went to his brother's room and kissed the sleeping boy stroking his long raven hair for a minute before going into his bedroom. He showered putting on his robe as he picked up his phone telling his layer he needed to see him immediately and hanging up knowing that he would come. He placed the letter on his desk gently looking around his room for a moment.
Seto walked briskly to the bar, pouring himself a vodka tonic as he settled in to wait for his lawyer. Half a bottle later, his lawyer was there, dressed in holey jeans and a sweatshirt.
"Alright, what is so important?" Boshi asked Seto, a touch of exasperation in his voice. "I have a court date in about 4 hours, so this can't take too long." He said, helping himself to a scotch. "I need you to draw up a will for me, tonight. I will give you all the details, and sign it before you leave. When you get to your office, make four copies of it, to be given to the people named in the will, and one for you. Can you handle that?"
Boshi looked at Seto strangely "Yes I can but why so sudden?" He asked slightly concerned but Seto just waved his hand dismissing the question as Boshi sat down writing all of what Seto wished, he considered Seto a sensible man he wouldn't do anything drastic.
"Just because I have been doing some thinking tonight. I know that if anything happened to me, there would be no guarantee that my brother would still have the company when he came to age. Hence, the will. I want to make sure it is taken care of. No more questions, let's get this done and over with because I prefer my own company to yours tonight."
Boshi simply nodded, he took the answer with confidence and didn't ask anymore questions, he had things to do anyway and needed to attend to them as the will was finished shortly and Seto re-read it and signed as Boshi took the copy and the mailing list, "I'll have it at the peoples houses you've asked for in the morning have a good night sir." Boshi said leaving Seto to his peace.
Seto watched Boshi leave, and quietly close the door. He went and poured himself another drink, straight vodka this time, and went and sat down behind his desk. Well, he told himself, at least it is all taken care of. He opened his top desk door, taking the gleaming nine-millimeter out and the box of bullets that sat next to it. He carefully loaded it, sipping on his drink as he went. He started crying, silent tears that escaped his eyes and ran silently down his face. This is right. He told himself. How can one live knowing that they hurt the one they loved? They can't he decided, as he clicked off the safety. "I love you Ryou." He said silently, opening his mouth wider and placing the gun on his tongue. He sat there for a second, looking at his salvation. This is the way it has to be, he thought, as he flexed his arm and knew no more.
"There you go honey." Marik said gently, as he laid Ryou in the massive bed. "I want you to sleep now, okay?"
Ryou pouted slightly as his brother ruffled his hair slightly in all reality he didn't really trust letting the two stay awake while he was asleep, no telling what they would be up to...however, he was really tired as Marik kissed him gently and he almost instantly fell into sleep. "He must be exhausted." Bakura commented softly so not to wake Ryou
"Yeah. He will hopefully sleep the night away. I am leaving Joey here; to make sure he is okay. Are you ready?" He said, striding out the door while Bakura followed in his wake. "I want to give this filthy piece of trash a piece of my mind."
Bakura smiled slightly a sadistic smirk strangely fitting his face perfectly despite how much he resembled Ryou. "Your not the only one." Bakura said softly. "I know. Let's make a stop in the study first though, and then we will be on our way. I have something I need to get." Marik said, walking quickly through the house. He stopped abruptly, and then turned to Joey. "I have no other chauffeurs on duty right now. We will have to drive ourselves. Do you mind?"
Not at all." Bakura said as they were soon inside Marik's study and Bakura opened a desk drawer, pulled out a golden rod, and eyed in strangely "What is this?" He asked looking at Marik. It looked like something from Egypt it had a round top with eye carved into it with wings on the side the rest was just a straight line. He fumbled with it for a second noticing the casing to the rod came off revealing a knife. "Nice." He commented softly
"Yeah, it has belonged in the family for ages. I think it is perfect for this." Marik said, as they headed for the garage. Marik grabbed a set of keys that were hanging on the hook, and him and Bakura got into the car. "Seto doesn't live too far, so we should be there soon."
"What about his little brother?" Bakura asked, "If he is home..." Bakura said
"Then he is home." Marik said flatly. "There is nothing we can do about that." They drove through town, neither saying a word as they watched the town pass by. Marik pulled up to the mansion, and stopped just before the front door, jumping out with Bakura and walking to the door.
Bakura sighed impatiently as they waited for someone to answer the door, he would normally just break inside but setting off a million alarms would not help anything besides Marik knew that getting to Seto shouldn't be a problem...
"May I help you gentlemen? An elderly butler asked as he opened the door. "Oh, Marik. Of course. Come in. We just weren't expecting you right now." He said ushering Bakura and Marik inside.
"I have no time to talk. Where is Seto?" Marik asked roughly.
"He is in his personal study. I will show you the way." The butler said, taken by surprise by the abruptness in Marik's voice.
Marik walked ahead of the butler apparently already knowing the way as Bakura joined him in the elevator as they went to the second floor walking down the long hallways toward the very last door as they stepped inside.
"Sir?" The butler inquired, knocking politely on the door. "Sir? Marik is here to see you." The butler waited a moment, and then quietly opened the door. "Seto!" He screamed, rushing to his beloved boss.
Bakura cringed at the scene; obviously, Seto hadn't been dead long the blood on the floor was still wet as it stained the manservant's hands as he rushed to the nearest phone calling an ambulance. Bakura looked to Marik who had an equally shocked expression on his face.
Marik slowly walked into the room, unable to look away from the gruesome sight before him. So much blood he thought, barley registering the voice of the butler as he talked to the other person on the phone.
Bakura sighed shaking his head as he looked about the room trying to focus on something other than the now lifeless body of Seto as his attention was drawn to the desk, which had a letter with Ryou's name on it. "Marik." He said softly motioning to the letter as he noticed the will on his desk as well.
Marik picked up the envelope, looking at Ryou's name. "He did this himself." He whispered softly. He picked up the will in his other hand, and began skimming it, his eyes growing wider with disbelief as he read.
"That's apparent...then gun is still in his hand." Bakura said noticing Marik's sudden silence "What is it?" He asked
"He has left everything to Ryou, and his brother." Marik said in disbelief. "Everything."
Bakura was speechless at first "Wh...why would he do such a thing." He said taking the will as well skimming it as well not believing and frowned looking back at Seto "...Ryou's going to blame himself for this." He said running a hand through his hair nervously. Paramedics rushed into the room but seemingly went unnoticed by both Bakura and Marik as the letter was pocketed quickly by Marik...it was for Ryou's eyes not anyone else.
"I know. We need to tell him as soon as we can." Marik said, heading for the door. A heavyset police officer stopped in front of them, blocking their exit. "Excuse me, gentlemen? I was wondering if you could just answer a few questions for me." He asked, making it more of a command then a question.
Bakura shook his head silently He hated this stupid routine, they didn't have any answers to the questions he was bound to ask them as he sighed heavily...they needed to get home they didn't have time to deal with a police officer however, if they didn't they could be suspected for murder as they were lead into a separate room by the officer.
"Now, the butler says that you had come over and he was showing you into the room, when you guys found the body, is that correct?" The cop asked, taking out a little black flip notebook.
"Yes" they both said unanimously "What reason do you have for visiting the victim?" The officer asked " "We came on business." Marik stated we have a project together.
"Business?" The cop inquired, looking up from his notes. "What business are you in?" "Well," Marik answered, "He was my partner on a new archeological dig site. He was the money behind the machine, if you will. I came to discuss general matters, see if he was happy with the progress we were making. How long do you think this is going to take, officer?"
The officer sighed "Are you in a hurry?" He asked "My brother is sick." Bakura said "I would like to return home as soon as possible." Bakura said "I see...we might call you both in for later questioning but for now you may go home." He said "If I could have your names?" He asked "Bakura Intermir." "Marik Ishtal." They finished the unwelcome interview by giving the officer their phone numbers, and places they could be reached. They walked silently through the house, letting themselves out, and getting back in the car. Marik sat in the dark behind the leather steering wheel, not bothering to turn on the engine.
"God damn it!" He screamed suddenly, hitting the steering wheel with both hands. Bakura jumped at the rage in Marik's voice, and decided it would be better if he didn't say anything at all. They drove home, both deep in their own thoughts, and only occasionally acknowledging the others presence.
Bakura was concerned for Ryou not only was he beat up and nearly raped by a good friend he very well could have caused his suicide as well...and Seto left everything to him...Mokuba was to young to inherit the other half as of yet. And for some reason Bakura didn't feel sorry for Seto at all, he almost felt he deserved the hell beat out of him before he died but it didn't work out that way unfortunately for Bakura. As they entered the mansion, they both checked on Ryou who was still asleep soundly. Bakura sighed looking at Marik who stood in the doorway simply staring at Ryou.
"Let's leave it till he wakes up." Bakura whispered to Marik softly. "He needs this sleep." Marik sighed, feeling helpless again. "I think that is a good idea." He replied. "Want a drink?"
"Yes." Bakura said as he followed him out of the bedroom and into the living room quietly as he took a glass of scotch. "What was that little outburst in the car all about?" Bakura asked curious.
"I don't think he should of gotten out of it so easily. He should of paid for what he did to Ryou." Marik told him, sitting in the armchair across from Bakura.
"I agree with you...but if that's how he wanted out that's his choice and there isn't much we can do about it now anyway." Bakura reclined back sipping his drink "I'm more concerned for Ryou at the moment...this is going to hit him hard." Bakura said
"I know." Marik groaned, putting the cold glass against his forehead. "I am almost tempted not to tell him. They have been friends for a long time, and truthfully I believe this is the first time Seto has ever hurt him."
"I was surprised that he was the one who hurt him, Ryou was constantly getting in trouble for staying out to late with him. Ryou was a bit naive then and younger then all the other students but Seto took care of him, but after high school Seto took control of the corporation so they didn't see each other anymore." Bakura sighed shaking his head "It's not like we can keep something like this a secret and there's also that letter you have." Bakura said "That's Ryou's he has a right to read it." Bakura said
See, here is what I am thinking. We make it where Ryou finds them in the morning, they tell him the news, big drama, Ryou cries, takes the letter and locks himself up in the bedroom. Then the end of the chap is the letter, nothing else.
And do you want to leave the details of the will for next chap? I mean, it is somewhat heartless to say hey, your best friend is dead, but he left you a fortune.
yeah next chapter would be best
"I know." Marik said, getting up to pour himself another drink. "As a matter of a fact, he should be waking up soon. This is the normal time for him. All though, he might sleep in on accountant of last night."
Bakura shrugged "How do we bridge the subject? How do you tell someone that your best friend committed suicide...especially right after he attacked Ryou?" Bakura asked looking up seeing Ryou in the doorway looking at him confused "What?" He asked weakly.
"Hi baby." Marik said, going over to Ryou. "Did you sleep well?"
Ryou pulled away form Marik slightly "What did you say Bakura?" He asked as Bakura turned to Marik looking at him desperately.
"Ryou, why don't you come and sit down." Marik said, guiding him to the chair. He kneeled in front of Ryou, taking his hands into his own. "Last night, me and Bakura went to Seto's house, and found him dead." He closed his eyes, not wanting to see the look of pain and horror on Ryou's face.
Ryou looked at Bakura who sighed deeply turning his face away from Ryou as well "I'm sorry Ryou...." He said trailing off slightly "H-how?" Ryou dared to ask as he said gripping Marik's hands tightly.
Ryou's body went ridged as Bakura sat next to Ryou bringing him into a hug but Ryou pulled away from both of them "W-why? How?" Ryou asked desperately
Marik shook his head, unable to answer him. He didn't know any good reason for Seto to kill himself, unless the thought of not being with Ryou made him wish he was dead. And he didn't want to tell Ryou that.
Bakura was unsure of how to answer Ryou as well as he reached into Marik's discarded jacket pulling out the letter Seto wrote Ryou. "here...he wrote you this probably before...here." HE said holding out the letter to Ryou who gingerly took it as if it would disengage in his hands. He began to walk away both of them about to follow as he turned looking at them pleadingly "Please...I just want to be alone for a moment...just give me a moment." He said running away from them both tears falling down his pale face.
Marik watched Ryou run out the door, wincing as he heard the bedroom door being slammed shut. "I think we need to give him a little time. I will show you into a guest chamber if you like, so you can shower and if possible, sleep."
"Thanks" Bakura said following Marik out of the room
Ryou cried for a little while as he eyed the letter in his hand's "You idiot...why would you do something so stupid? Don't you ever think of anyone but yourself? What about Mokuba?" Ryou asked as if he expected an answer. He opened the letter and began to read it silent tears falling down his face
To my beloved Ryou,
First, I must apologize for what I have done to you. I know now that there was a better way for me to express my love and devotion to you. I regret that the only thing you will remember of me now, is my behavior on this horrific night. Please don't. Remember us at school, the fun we had. Remember us sneaking around at night, just to tell each other how are supper was. How we would stay late together making pathetic excuses for you father so you wouldn't get in trouble. How I always defended you and stood by you at school no matter what others said…how we were probably the best friends that ever existed remember those times and now I beg for your forgiveness. I know I don't deserve it, what I did to you was atrocious and I detest myself for ever subjecting you to such a thing but it will be my salvation in death. If you are reading this Ryou I must tell you I am no longer alive but I want you to know it was not your fault this my decision and what happened between us at your house was not the reason for this, there were many factors that I cannot begin to go through but the only one that involved you was my inability to never love you the way Marik can.
I know I have no right, but I have a huge favor to ask of you. Please take care of Mokuba. He is the last of my blood, the last of our great and noble family. I regret that I will no longer be able to take care of him, to make him breakfast myself when he comes home in the summer. I will miss him. Let him know I love him, and that I did this because I have failed him and you. I never thought I would be a failure to anyone. However, I do not blame either of you. It is my fault, my fault I have become the man I am. Please make sure that doesn't happen to him. Make sure he knows how to accept other people's love, and how to love them in return without causing the pain I have caused you. Please remember I stopped, I know I hurt you already but I did stop.
I do love you. It is something that has been growing in me since we first met, like hot fire, your every movement only willing the blaze to burn stronger and brighter filling me full of light. I shouldn't have waited. I should of told you from the moment I was sure…but I was fool and thought only of myself not wanting to ruin my self image and I was telling myself over and over that I will get over you but yet I didn't. And even though I regret not being the one to spend the rest of my life with you, I have every confidence that Marik will take care of you as I would of done if I hadn't been so selfish. Please don't forget me, the real me. And always remember that there was not a time in my life that I wasn't thinking of you, I loved you more than I can even understand and It will be the same in death, I am sure. I will always be with you Mokuba. I will always be with you Ryou, my one and true love.
Eternally yours,
Seto
