Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Reincarnation ❯ Choices ( Chapter 8 )
Author Note: Golly gosh darn it, this is the last chappie everyone!!! But don't fret! I'll be writing a sequel! Again! ^_^;; Hey, it'll be a trilogy ^___________^ Maybe I could re-release all the stories in one big story. With special effects (meaning spelling and grammar fixes) and added deleted scenes (meaning more POVs beside Yuugi and Yami most of the time)! Geez, I'm starting to sound like a commercial. -_- At first I didn't know how you guys would like the idea of a sequel and I was about to rewrite the ending, but I see you guys like it... so just remember this isn't the end! At the end of the chappie I'll have the first small part of the sequel, just to show you what's gonna happen. So! Go read! ^____^V
Choices
Chapter 8
Yami watched as Yuugi slept. The smaller one's face had been carefully cleaned and bandaged, along with the cuts on his arms. Slowly fading bruises covered him from head to toe. Yami's own injuries were healing, but he didn't mind them. //I'm glad Marik followed me. I was able to get Yuugi out of danger while Marik showed the guy what he thought of him.// Yami looked at the clock next to him. //10:30, huh? Marik must just now be getting done with him. Poor soul. He won't have much of a body left when he regains consciousness.//
Yami had already called his parents and Yuugi's grandpa had given him permission to stay overnight. Yami leaned over and softly kissed his lips. //Why won't you let me protect you?// He asked silently.
/Because I'm not good enough./
Yami broke off the kiss. //You're awake?//

Marik smiled as he looked at his handy work. He was quite proud of himself. He smile grew wider. "Definitely a concussion. All his fingers are broken in two spots. He probably lost six teeth... at least that is all I saw fall out of his mouth." The blond saw blood still running from the boy's nose and mouth. The arms and legs were bent in ways that God had not meant for them to be bent. "He was pretty bad for a guy with a knife." All in all, it was a good night for him. "Yami better start kissing my ass for this," he said as he looked at his bloody knuckles and felt pain crawl up his dislocated arm. "He so better kiss my ass."
He started his walk back to his house. He stopped at the nearest park first to wash himself off. The water slightly stung his cuts, but he didn't care much.
Marik walked into his house, prepared for the lecture he knew he was going to get. It was well past ten at night and his parents had more than likely waited up for him. "Well, here it goes."
"And where were you, young man?" his father's voice rang from the living room.
Marik sighed. "I was out with some friends, Dad."
"This late at night?"
"Yeah," Marik said sarcastically. "We were studying real hard for tomorrow's test."
"Listen, I've had it up to here with your stunts." His father emerged into Marik's sight.
"Where? I couldn't see."
His mother joined his father, her eyes showed signs of her crying. "You are being sent to Egypt."
"What?!"
"We have some friends of the family who we think can straighten you out. Their daughter's name is Isis and her brother is Malik. Good students I might add."
"You can't be serious."
"We don't know what to do with you anymore, Marik. You're grades have always been average or below, just barely passing. You get into fights. I don't know what your friends at school make of you, but it's obvious they can't help you."
"Marik snorted. "And you think making me unhappy will cure my so-called `problem.'"
His mother answered. "We've tried everything with you."
"So, when do I leave?"
"At the end of the week. You can say your good-byes to your friends," his father answered.
Marik stormed up to his room. "If they think I'm gonna make THIS easy for them, they have another thing coming."

Yuugi sighed and nodded. He winced from the pain the movement sent through his body. /Yami, you don't have to stay./
//I want to, Yuugi. You were badly hurt today and I wasn't there to protect you.//
"It's not your fault," he whispered. "It's mine, for being weak-"
"You're not weak. People just take advantage of your kindness."
"Yami-"
"Shut up, Yuugi, and let me talk. I don't love you because I loved you in the past. I love you for who you are now. Yes, our past allowed us to meet, but it didn't force me to love you." "He gently touched one of Yuugi's bandaged cheeks. He leaned forward and gently touched their lips together. "I love you so much that I'm giving you my love to do whatever you want with. It's time you made a decision and live for what you want." Yami took a deep breath, knowing he would have to keep his word. "If you want me to stay, I will. If you want me to leave, I will. I won't follow you or look at you. I'll forever take off this necklace and never put it on again."
The tension was thick in the room. Both were torn. Both of them knew that this would settle everything. Yuugi squeezed his eyes shut. He slowly turned his head away from Yami.
Yami knew the answer.
Before he left the room, he turned back to Yuugi. Needless to say, he was hurt with Yuugi's unspoken words. He felt tears starting to leave his eyes. Yami didn't bother to wipe them away, Yuugi couldn't see them anyway. He carefully took off his necklace. The last thing that connected him with Yuugi.
"Maybe you are right," Yami said softly. "Maybe you are weak." He heard a muffled cry of pain, but ignored it. He knew Yuugi had thrown away his love.

Yami stretched. //Yay, that last exam almost did me in. Good thing I decided to read that extra chapter for those bonus questions.// All he would have to do is wait for his grades in the mail. //College is so much harder than everyone makes it out to be.// He sighed. He handed in his papers to the professor and left.
He started on his walk to his dorm. When he entered, he saw his suitcases where he left them after packing. //Going home for a couple weeks will feel good. I'll get to see everyone again.// This year they all decided to meet in Domino for the holiday break. They meaning him, Marik, and his boyfriend and his sister, Bakura, Ryou, Kaiba, Jounouchi and Honda. He had made friends with Jounouchi and Honda during his last year of high school. Surprisingly, Kaiba and Jounouchi actually started going out. Yami was sure their conflicting attitudes would drive each other nuts.
In addition, all of them remembered all of their past, except Yami. He kept his promise and never put on the necklace. His dreams had stopped and all he was left with was the happy memories he had of the past with him. As he had no happy moments with him in the present.
He flopped on his bed and idly wondered what he was doing now. Did he miss him? Or did he forget? The thought to put the necklace back on tempted him more now than ever. They haven't talked since that night. //It's been four years. He must have changed a lot.// He opened the drawer next to him and took out his necklace. He kept it in good condition, hoping for a day he could wear it again.
