Prologue

It was midnight. Cries of pain echoed through the empty streets, as the mother gave birth. The new-born did not cry as was usual, but just stared with wide eyes at the carcass of her mother that was slumped over the birthing block.

"She is one of the Gods!" one of the midwives whispered.

"Perhaps not, but she is definitely special. She will be brought up in the temple of Sekhmet, as her mother worked there," The high priestess said, as she looked over at the dead mother's body, "The woman is dead. The babe has no mother, therefore she will continue her mother's footsteps. Sekhmet obviously favoured Namara," she motioned towards the dead body, "But Namara will be missed. The babe would normally go to the father, but there was none. It is a strange thing. See how her eyes reflect the moon's glow."

The three of them bent over and saw the moony resonance in the baby's vivid green eyes. The baby coughed and reached up to the high priestess. The high priestess took the baby up in her arms with compassion in her eyes.

"There, there. The baby shall be called Niaka. With you both and the gods as my witnesses, I hereby claim her as mine. I shall take care of her and raise her as my own." As she said this, a figure slipped away and ran into the palace.

"My Pharaoh, a woman has given birth to a girl."

"So? Why does this concern me?"

"The woman was a priestess of the Goddess Sekhmet. Sh-she was a virgin." the girl mumbled. The pharaoh stood up and walked out of the shadows.

"Keep me informed of her progress." was all he said. The Pharaoh was Yami's father.
