Chapter 1
Yami was walking aimlessly in the garden, watching the sunset colours strike patterns through the leaves on to the ground. As he looked up to view the sky, he tripped and fell on his face. A mewing round his ankles proclaimed the reason for his trip. He only wished that he had hitched a lift with Horus two seconds earlier. He pushed himself off of the ground and looked behind him. A cat with strange tiger markings was prowling round his feet and purring, obviously pleased with himself for felling the young Pharaoh. Yami frowned and picked up the cat, who, still purring, made a nest for himself between Yami's legs. Yami positioned himself in a cross-legged position and began to absent-mindedly stroke the cat. A few seconds later, someone came running up to the two of them and stopped. Yami looked up and saw a black-haired girl, about the same age as him, wearing a white tunic edged with gold. She bowed respectfully.
"My lord, if he is bothering you, shall I remove him?"
Yami looked puzzled.
"The cat, my lord."
Yami picked up the cat, stood up and gave it to her, but as soon as it was in her arms, the cat sprang out and ran up the nearest tree.
"Damn!" she swore, then looking at Yami's surprised face, "He always tries to get away from me, even though he likes me. It gets annoying after a while, but he just keeps running on and getting stuck up trees." A loud mewing told the two of them that the cat was indeed stuck. The girl walked up to the tree and grabbed one of the lower branches. Yami watched with interest as she swung herself higher and closer to the stuck cat. She eventually perched herself on one of the uppermost branches.
"Come on, please come to me... I won't hurt you, Lifer... ahh!" She reached out, but lost her footing and fell towards the ground. She never reached it. She felt strong and comforting arms catch her perfectly, and she looked up at the face of the Pharaoh. His eyebrows were raised, but he felt a liking for this girl. The girl realised that her mouth was open and closed it before blushing a deep crimson and muttered to herself distractedly, while taking note of the polished gold headress that sat on Yami's brow. Yami released her and she climbed up the tree again. Two minutes later, she slid down (severely scratched) with the cat in her arms. The cat, who had had enough excitement for one day, jumped out of her embrace and ran for home, looking forward to his dinner.
Yami dusted himself off and got a better look at the girl as she followed the cat's path with her eyes. She was quite tall, slim, and very attractive. Her almond-shaped eyes were a beautiful vivid green, and her lips were full and alluring. Her figure was curvy in the right places and her breasts were well shaped. Her tanned skin was pure while her black hair was long and wavy at the end, with a few tresses hanging over her shoulders. Her silver headress and tunic betrayed her position as a temple servant of the goddess Sekhmet. As he was looking at her, she walked to him and knelt at his feet.
"Forgive me Pharaoh. I shouldn't have burst in on you. I beg your forgiveness." She said in obvious shame.
"There is nothing to forgive. When we are alone, like this, you may have the privilege of calling me by my name, Yami."
"I thank you for the honour, my lor-, I mean, Yami."
Yami smiled, as a breeze flew by, tugging at the hem of his kilt and cloak, and ruffling the edge of her tunic.
"I'm sorry, but I don't think I heard your name, girl."
"My name is... I mean, it's Niaka." She was a bit disconcerted by his majestic stance, with the breeze rippling through his hair and pulling up the edges of his cloak as she stood up slowly.
"That is a good name. My lady, I'm quite surprised to find you out of the temple." he said, with laughter in his ruby-red eyes. Niaka stared.
"Yami, don't call me by that title! I'm not high enough for that, but I see that you have revised your statuses in the temple forum." she replied with a smirk.
"I'll call you by whatever title I want. I've seen you inside the temple of Sekhmet while going there to pray for strength, and from your jewellery arrangements I gathered that you served there. I remember you from that, because I haven't seen anyone as beautiful as you."
Her astonished gaze brought her an amused look from the Pharaoh, before his lips touched hers in a delicate kiss. As she opened her mouth in surprise, it was quickly filled by his searching tongue. His tongue touched hers and he smirked against her mouth. His arms encircled her waist and drew her close. He sighed as her hands ran up his chest and rested behind his neck. They broke apart for air and he saw her face; flushed, and gasping. "Would you like more?" he offered, with a hopeful glint in his eyes.
"I have to go. My elders will be worried sick." she replied, lost in his whirlpools of ruby-red intensity, but not giving him an answer to his question. He smiled gently and let her go. He sighed to himself as she ran out of the garden. Clearly, she wasn't one to be won over easily. That would make the game more interesting. He turned and sauntered towards the palace.
