Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Return to Egypt ❯ Chapter 2 ( Chapter 2 )
Return To Egypt
Chapter 1
It was around nine- fifteen in the home of Yugi, and Grandpa. Grandpa was already fast asleep, when Yugi sat with Yami his other half. "No more nightmares, right?", Yami asked, stroking Yugi's neck gently.
"No, goodnight, Yami.", Yugi stated, ready to sleep.
It was a while before Yami went into slumber himself, it was a choice, not a requirement for him, but he enjoyed slumber, so peaceful, and happy.
...
It was a different scene for Ryou Bakura, and his yami. "Do you defy me?!", Yami Bakura yelled.
Ryou felt the hard blow of the switch on his back, cutting into his flesh. "You are weak, too weak to fight even the smallest of fears! Hopeless, baggage of flesh!", he was whipped again, "Sleep, in the morning you will find another lesson awaiting you filth!",
Ryou breathed hard, too tired to move, and to scared to try it. Yami Bakura left the room, and Ryou went to the only safety he had left, sleep. Bakura went to bed himself, in his soul room, alone. No gentleness escaped his mouth as he fell into slumber.
...
Yami woke the next morning, only not in Yugi's room, but rather a familiar place. The bed fitted with the finest of silks lay under him, the gold of the posts startled him. Yami sat up, realizing he was wearing his old Egyptian garments. The gold bracelets that he wore on his arms. The tattoo he had been given as a child to mark him as the pharaoh. It was all familiar, yet, distant. Thoughts ran through his mind was this, or that place all a dream? Had Yugi, Ryou, Joey, Tristan, Téa, had they all been... A dream? Yami stood in front of the mirror, it too had a golden frame, his reflection stared back at him. His face was done in the makeup as it had always been. The crown sat on the table next to his hands. It wasn't that though that he reached for, but, rather the torn rags in the compartment underneath, his peasant's disguise. Yami needed time to think things over to himself, so he set to work washing off the make- up, and removing the golden items from his body...
...
Bakura woke in a similar situation. He woke to the tired, old sagging ceiling of his past life's home. His cloths were the dirty rags as they had once been. The place still smelled of the stench of a half drunken bastard that he lived with. Yes, he was home, but, not the home one would expect. Suddenly, he remembered everything that had happened in this place before. This. This was no place to rest. To enjoy, to find love. It was a place of booze, and beatings, cuttings, his abusing parent. He stared at the old stone floor, cracked, and peeling was the last existence of his mother's painting. He didn't leave, not yet. He looked at the cabinet, rotting to pieces, the one, poorly built window in the whole place. The poor, old, place sat there like a broken maiden turned into an old, feeble woman. He stole a glance at the dusty place, before sneaking off, to find answers to the questions he didn't ask himself yet.
...
As Yami Yugi snuck out of the palace, he felt rather alone... Without Yugi with him, there was an void in his mind, in his life.... He shivered at the thought of Yugi never even being a live. It was all too real for him to think like that, Yugi wasn't a dream, he couldn't have been, could he have? Yami continued to wander down the alley as his thoughts stole him away.
....
Bakura looked at the food that had been sat at the temple as offerings. It all smelled delicious.... He was poor, which meant he was rather hungry, practically starving, the sensation of it was strong for him, having not felt it in a long while. Being a live had it's advantages to being dead, but, the feelings of hunger were a large downside. In the end, his hunger won over his thoughts that he could get killed for stealing the God's offerings... However, unknown to him, Ryou materialized behind him, and watched as Bakura grabbed as much food as he could carry, and hurried to get away with it.
....
Ryou turned in time to see a guard behind him. "So, we're helping out to steal some food from the Temple, are we?", the guard sneered at him.
Ryou turned back to his Yami, however, he was being dragged off by two other guards.... Ryou was grabbed by the one behind him, and pulled roughly by the hair towards a large palace looking building. As he was dragged, Ryou cried out in pain, and in shock... The stones on the ground scratched, and bruised his body. Bakura glanced to the side to get a look at his fellow captive. When he saw who it was, Ryou noticed his face grow pale, and his eyes turn into a shocked expression. Then, the two were thrown into a prison cell together to await their punishment by the pharaoh's hands.
....
Yami stopped in a particular alley, one hardly used by anyone, and he stood calmly. The thoughts of Yugi not being here agonized him, he had to know, he just had to know for sure..... Yami entered his soul room, and making sure it still was what it had been.... He opened the door that lead into the hallway connecting the two soul rooms, and he turned to face where Yugi's door should be. And it was still there. Yami walked slowly at first, as though afraid it would fade. When he touched the doorknob, Yami felt his heart beat like a rabbit's in his chest. It fluttered in his chest, he started to doubt anything would be there. "I have to have hope that Yugi's in there.", Yami thought to himself.
The door to the room opened willingly, and Yami stepped into it. The place was full of such immense sunlight, it took him a while to let his eyes adjust to it. When they had, all Yami could see was Yugi sitting on his bed, playing with his Lego's....
....
The guards threw the two of them into the cell. "Hope you like the cold, this chamber is specially fitted to be freezing all the time....", the main guard said, "If the cold doesn't kill the two of you, the pharaoh will.",
Ryou had backed against the wall, and was shivering all over. Yami Bakura approached, ready to smack his lighter half over the matter at hand. However, he stopped, noting the flushed face, it was as though he was burning hot with the way the sweat pored down his face, yet, he shivered from the cold. Ryou's eyes were closed, his lips were parted just a bit, they themselves were starting to turn blue.... Bakura remembered this room, he'd heard of it.... It was supposed to freeze it's captives to death, they would have to escape it somehow. Both of them would be needed for this, if he was to survive. Bakura helped Ryou to stand, "You have to keep your body moving, if you don't, then your blood will freeze.", he said, "Move every part you can....",
Ryou nodded slowly... He walked a couple steps shakily, before falling completely, and fading from Bakura's sight.... 'He's just a spirit right now.', the thought seemed interesting, but not convincing enough.
Now, Bakura began to see what was really going on. In returning to his past, he switched places with his lighter half, and yet... Something was wrong, seriously wrong, with Ryou....
....
"Yugi, are you okay? You look a little flushed.", Yami asked.
"I'm fine, can I control my body now?", Yugi wanted to know.
"Um.... Actually, it's my body.", Yami admitted, "You see.... We, we somehow came back in time to when I was still a live. So, we've switched places in a strange sense.",
"I see, so in my time, you were the spirit, and I was a living person, no offense.", Yugi added, "Which means, I'm the spirit now, and your the living person...",
"I believe so anyway.", Yami shrugged.
"Okay, then, how do you materialize?", Yugi asked.
"Hey, hold on a minute, if you just appea-", Yami started.
"Well, I don't see why I can't, you did it all the time in front of Grandpa...", Yugi muttered.
"He's never freaked out by a whole lot, you should know that, especially after watching the duel monsters actually being brought into the physical world.", Yami pointed out.
".... You have a point.... Do you have any place private? I know, your bedroom!", Yugi snapped his fingers.
"..... Actually..... That's a mess...", Yami said, looking rather guilty.
"You don't clean up after yourself do you?", Yugi asked.
"..... No, not very often.... Until my High Priest forces me to.", Yami sighed, "I'd rather you don't try until we're sure you won't get hurt doing it, okay?",
"Okay.", Yugi agreed.
....
Bakura ran, having used the ring to blast a whole big enough for himself to get out of the cell. He was currently being followed by four guards down this hallway, turn right, then left, then go straight.... Soon he emerged into sunlight, and continued to run down back alleys, and around corners, until he came back to the back alley that lead to his worn, and broken home.... He'd lost them.... Then, Bakura bumped into someone he did not ever want to see again....
End Chapter: Who is this person Bakura bumped into? You'll all find out soon!
