Can't Live Without You

Aten ran out into the night, holding his pills in his right pocket and the knife under his shirt. He walked to the payphone by the Crestwood Apartments and called Dr. Chapman's office.

Behind him, the black limousine followed him.

[Hello, You have reached Dr. Chapman's office. Our business hours are Monday to Friday 9am to 5 pm. If this is an emergency, please call Dr. Chapman at 215-555-9753.]

Aten took a deep breath at the sound of the beep. "Hello, Dr. Chapman. It's Aten Ishtar. I just wanted to say thank you for everything you've done for me. You've been a good friend and I appreciate you talking to me. Goodbye, Dr. Chapman…and thanks again."

Aten hung up the phone and walked into the alleyway. He opened the bottle of pills and removed the knife from his shirt.

Aten emptied a bunch of pills into his hand. His hand trembled as he held the medication that would most likely kill him if he overdosed. The chemicals that once kept him alive, would now be his death sentence. All he had to do was shove them into his mouth and swallow them.

That's all it would take.

If that failed, he had the knife to cut himself.

Just a simple stab…..

A simple cut…..

That is all it would take to end his life.

Aten looked at the knife in his hand. 'What if the pills don't work? I may as well just use the knife.'

Aten dropped his pills on the ground and held the knife towards his chest. The blade pointed at his chest.

Aten closed his eyes as his body trembled. 'I can't take this….I have to do it…..Grandfather won't leave me alone….I have to kill myself….It's the only way.'

Tears flowed down Aten's face as the blade touched over the skin above his heart.

'Robbie…….I'm sorry……'

Aten turned his head away and pulled back the knife ready to stab it into his failing heart.

'Come on, Aten…..do it.'

The blade glimmered in the lights from the streets.

'Do it…..I must do this.'

Aten gripped the handle of the knife. 'Do it, Aten…Kill yourself….Ra, forgive me.'

Aten thrust the knife towards his chest and stopped short. "Robbie….." Aten dropped the knife and fell to his knees. "I can't! I can't do it! I need Robbie!"

Aten ran to the phone and called Robbie's house.

A groggy Robbie answered the phone. "Uh….It's…two in the morning. Who is it?"

[Robbie, It's Aten….please, I need you! Please come!]

Robbie's eyes opened wide. His friend was sobbing over the phone. "Aten? Why do I hear cars? Are you home?"

[Robbie….I wanted to kill myself. Please come! I'm by the Crestwood Apartments. You know, where Tristan and Otogi live.]

Robbie jumped out of bed and onto his bad foot. "Ow. Yeah, Aten. Stay right where you are! Don't move! I'll be right there!"

Robbie hung up the phone and removed his clothes. He put on some jeans and a blue striped shirt and his sneakers. The blue-eyed boy grabbed a sweater.

He limped down the stairs and out down the street.

He found Aten at the payphone by the Crestwood Apartments, sobbing on the ground.

"Aten!" Robbie ran up to Aten, tears running down his cheeks. "Why would you want to kill yourself? Don't you know that I couldn't live without you?"

Aten clutched onto Robbie. "I couldn't take the memories of my grandfather anymore, Robbie. He always comes to me in my dreams and he keeps…..doing things and I keep trying to beg him to stop and he doesn't and…" Aten's language disintegrated into Arabic.

"Aten, I can't understand your Arabic if you're crying. Try to take a deep breath. Think English."

Aten took a deep breath and continued to sob.

"Aten, why would you want to do that to yourself?"

Aten sniffled. "I had a bad nightmare the other night. It scared my mommy and daddy. I thought I was with my grandfather again and I got so scared, Robbie, I couldn't fight him!"

"Aten, I cannot understand you, first of all. Take a deep breath."

Aten clutched onto Robbie and didn't move. Robbie removed his sweater and put it around his friend.

"Come on, Aten," Robbie whispered softly. "It's okay, Aten. I'm here. I won't leave you."

"Don't leave me, Robbie. For the love of Ra, please don't leave me!"

Robbie held Aten close and rocked him. "It's okay to cry, Aten. I'll hold you for as long as you want."

Aten sniffled and started to shiver. "Thank you, Robbie."

"Aten, does your parents know you are out here?"

"No. My mommy and Daddy Bakura are in their room. My daddy and Malik are………busy. Aria is asleep in her room. Nobody knows I am gone. I left a note telling them that I was going to kill myself."

Robbie gasped. "We had better get you home before your family finds that note!"

Aten sobbed. "Robbie, I want you to be there with me."

"I'll take you home, Aten. Come on."

Aten shook his head. "I don't want to go home."

"Are you saying that you still want to kill yourself?" Robbie asked him with a trembling bottom lip.

Aten looked down.

"Aten, we've never had secrets between each other. We've always been open with each other."

Aten sniffled. 'Robbie, if you only knew about my real secrets! You wouldn't want to be near me anymore.'

"Aten, I don't know what I'd do if you were not here to be my friend anymore. I'd really miss you."

Aten hugged Robbie tightly. "I'm afraid, Robbie."

Robbie held Aten. "I know, Aten. I'm afraid, too."

"Aww….Isn't this sweet?" the two boys heard a man say from the entrance to the alley.

Robbie released Aten and the two boys stood up. "Aten?"

Aten's eyes opened wide with fear. "Robbie?"

"Get 'em, boys," the man said to the two men hovering behind him.

Aten and Robbie ran down the alley, hearing the footsteps of the two men behind them. Aten held Robbie's hand as they turned the corner in the alley.

"Oh no! Dead end!"

Robbie and Aten turned around as the two men grabbed them

"Help! Help!" Robbie cried out as he struggled against the tall man with green eyes. Robbie looked at the man's green eyes. They looked familiar. Was it…..Otogi?

Aten shook, paralyzed with fear as the other tall skinny man held him against the brick.

"Yell all you want," the man in the back said as he drew out a needle from his pocket. "Nobody is going to hear you."

The man went to Aten first. He took the needle and injected some of the solution into Aten's arm.

Robbie struggled against his captor and focused on the green eyes staring down at him.

"Let me go!"

Aten slowly stopped struggling as the drug entered his system.

"What is that?" the man with green eyes asked.

"Heroin. I prepared it myself."

Aten slowly stopped struggling, and Robbie let out a growl.

The angry twelve year old kicked his assailant in the leg.

"Charlie, I can't hold him!"

The man with the needle held Robbie's head against the brick and injected the drug into the jugular vein in Robbie's neck.

"This will knock this punk out quick."

The boy moaned as he became limp.

Charlie grinned. "Now we've got them! Bring 'em to the car, boys."

***************************

Ryou opened his eyes and saw Bakura laying beside him, wide awake. "Good morning, yami. Watching me sleep, were you?"

Bakura smiled. "Yeah. Is that a bad thing?"

Ryou reached up and brushed his fingertips across Bakura's face. "I love you, Bakura."

Bakura leaned down and kissed Ryou's lips gently. He took the opportunity to kiss down Ryou's neck slowly. His kisses trailed down to Ryou's chest.

The hikari squirmed under his yami's gentle touch. His breaths came in small, short gasps as the yami's affections slipped to his arousal.

"Bakura…."

Bakura licked slowly up the pulsing shaft then swallowed around him, surrounding Ryou's manhood with a warm, tender heat.

The yami held his husband's hips down lightly as he licked the tender, sensitive head.

"Bakura…baby….please. I need you," Ryou pleaded as he reached over to the side-table and grabbed a bottle of strawberry oil.

Bakura grinned. "My love." The yami coated two of his fingers.

Ryou took a deep breath as he felt his yami coat his entrance with the slicked digits. He arched his back as he felt one of the digits stretch past his barrier and into the hot recesses of his body.

Bakura felt his husband's hips lift off of the bed and push himself against the digit that was inside him.

The yami teased his lover as he entered another digit into his body, stretching him further.

"I love you, Bakura."

"Is my angel enjoying himself?"

Ryou looked down with a smile. "Would I be moaning and squirming if I wasn't?"

Bakura licked his lips devilishly. He crawled up to Ryou and positioned himself at his husband's entrance. He kissed his husband on the lips and slowly entered him.

Ryou reached between them and stroked himself as his yami slowly entered him.

The yami slowly moved inside his lover, feeling Ryou's body surround him.

The yami closed his eyes as he indulged in the warmth and tightness of his lover's body.

"Bakura…."

"Ryou….."

Bakura took possession of Ryou's lips hungrily, pounding harder into the body below him. Sweat dripped from their foreheads and their breathing quickened as they made love. The bed's mattress creaked with the force of their thrusts against each other.

Ryou moaned loudly as Bakura hit his prostate with a merciless thrust.

"RYOU! BAKURA!" Malik's terrified shriek came from downstairs. "RYOU! BAKURA!"

Bakura stopped, buried deep inside Ryou's body. "Was that Malik?"

Malik burst into the room holding a piece of paper. "ATEN! Aten's gone!"

Bakura removed himself from Ryou as the mother grabbed the piece of paper.

Bakura was overwhelmed with feelings of fear.

"Aten! Oh my god! Where is he?"

"He's not in his room!"

Marik ran into the bedroom. "He's not with his sister."

Malik clutched onto Marik. "Aten's heart medication is gone!"

"Aten didn't shut the knife drawer all the way either," Marik said, his entire body shaking.

Ryou stood up and grabbed his bathrobe. "Aten?!" Ryou pushed through Marik and Marik and ran down the stairs. He ran outside.

"ATEN! ATEN!"

"ROBBIE! ROBBIE!" Miranda called outside in her bathrobe.

Ryou ran down the street to Miranda. "Is Aten over here?"

"No! Is Robbie over there?"

"No!"

Ryou grabbed onto Miranda, sobbing. Miranda looked around the neighborhood as she held onto Ryou.

"I found Robbie gone just now! His pajamas were beside his bed and it looked like he left his bed!"

The two mothers looked around nervously.

"ATEN!"

"ROBBIE!"

"Aten wrote this note that Malik found!"

Miranda read the note and her face went pale. "Oh my god," she whispered, her voice cracking. "Why would Aten do such a thing?"

Marik ran down to Miranda's house. "Is your boy here?"

Miranda's bottom lip trembled and she cried into Ryou's hair. "Robbie is gone!" Miranda sobbed.

"Aten is gone!" Ryou wailed.

Marik held both of them in his arms. "I wonder why Robbie has gone, too."

Miranda sniffled. "I hope Robbie didn't intend on killing himself, too! He's my only son! He's my only child!"

Marik kissed both of the crying mothers on the forehead. "Look, we have to look for them. Miranda, go inside and get dressed. Be at my house when you are ready. Okay? We'll find him."

Miranda ran into her house, crying. Marik helped Ryou home.

"We'll find him, Ryou. Go upstairs and get changed."

Aria stepped out of her room and saw Ryou run crying into his room. "Mommy?" She ran to the door. "Mommy? Why are you crying?"

Ryou opened the door slightly. "Your brother is missing, Aria."
Aria gasped. "Not my brother! Not Aten! Where is he?"

"We don't know. I'm going to get dressed so I can look for him."

The door shut and Aria ran to the bathroom to brush her teeth, use the toilet, and clean herself up. She ran to her room and sifted through her underwear drawer.

"Where did I put that stupid black bra? Oh. That's right. I sent it to the Shadow Realm because it ticked me off. I forgot about that."

The girl put on a dark blue dress.

"I can't let Aten be lost! Sekhmet!"

The Boarder Collie ran to his master and lowered its head.

"We have to track down Aten."

Aria brushed her white, spiky hair and tied light blue ribbons on her batwing spikes. She noticed that her arm was aching as she brushed her hair.

"Maybe I slept on it wrong."

She smiled at herself in the mirror. "Okay, beautiful. Time to

look for Aten!"

**********************

Marik called Seto on the phone. He explained the problem that Aten had disappeared and had written a suicide note. Malik, Ryou, and Aria had gone looking for Aten around the neighborhood.

Seto told Marik to search for Jay and Karl around the block at 9470 Hillcrest Road.

Seto and Joey arrived anxiously. Both of the men looked at the suicide note.

"Oh no……….Aten. He had so much to live for! Why would he do something like this?"

Marik took a deep breath. "Aten is not the only boy missing. Robbie has disappeared without a trace."

"You don't think Robbie planned on killing himself, too, do you?" Seto asked with a raised eyebrow.

"I don't know."

Miranda entered the house trying to contain her panic. "What streets need to be checked?"

Joey hugged Miranda tightly. "We'll find them, Miranda. Don't worry."

"My son disappeared, Joey. And the only thing I have is Aten's suicide note. I am his mother. He is my only son. How can I not worry?"

"Miranda, do you know Otogi and Tristan live?"

Miranda nodded. Otogi and she had periodically had afternoons where they swapped recipes. They would bake a cake together and eat it. "I know where they live. They live at the Crestwood Apartments down the street."

"Explain what has happened and ask them to join in the search."

Miranda walked down the street, followed by Aria and Sekhmet.

Sekhmet followed Aria and Miranda up the elevator to Tristan and Otogi's apartment.

Otogi opened the door to the apartment. "Miranda! Aria! So nice to see the two of you!"

"Otogi……I need your help," the distraught mother sobbed.

"Oh, Peaches……come in and tell me all about it," Otogi said, helping the crying woman inside.

Tristan came out of the bedroom and pulled down his shirt. "Miranda? What is wrong?"

"Aten is gone. He's disappeared."

Otogi gasped. "Oh, no! That's awful!"

Aria ran to Tristan and hugged him around the waist.

"That's not all. Aten left a suicide note…and……and……and now Robbie has disappeared, too!"

Tristan's jaw dropped and his eyes narrowed. "He what?! Both boys are gone?"

Miranda nodded.

Aria turned to Miranda. "Nobody told me Aten left a suicide note! Oh no, Sekhmet! What are we going to do?"

Tristan wrapped his arms around the crying woman and rubbed her hair consolingly. "We'll find them, Miranda. Otogi, can you get her a shot of something?"

Otogi opened a bottle of Zinfadel and poured her a shotglass. "Here, Peaches, drink this. It will help you calm down a bit."

Miranda gulped down the drink quickly, making her cough.

"That's too quick, Miranda. You're going to choke if you drink that fast."

Otogi rubbed her back as she coughed. "Now, now, Miranda. We want to help any way we can."

"Daddy Marik asked you and Otogi to come over to our house," Aria said, petting her dog's head gently.

"Okay. We'll be right there. Give us five minutes to get dressed."

"Yes! Absolutely!"

Tristan and Otogi ran into their bedroom to change. Under different circumstances, she would have felt differently about Tristan changing in a nearby room.

All that mattered now was Robbie's safe return.

**************************

Sekhmet followed the others out of the Crestwood Apartments and stopped by the alley. He let out a shrill bark and darted down the alley.

"Sekhmet!!! Stop!" Aria cried after her dog. "Wait. He may have found something!"

Aria chased after the dog, followed by the others.

Tristan ran ahead and reached down to the ground. "Pills!" Tristan picked up the empty medication bottle, Aten's pills were scattered along the concrete.

Sekhmet sniffed at the ground and the pills. He pawed at Tristan's hand, whimpering pitifully.

Tristan looked up at Otogi. "Aten's pills!"

"Oh, no! Look!" Otogi ran and grabbed the knife from the ground. "No blood."

Sekhmet ran down the alley and turned the corner.

Aria ran after him and found him laying on the ground, crying.

"What is it, Sekhmet?"

The dog whimpered and Aria kneeled beside it. "It's okay, Sekhmet. We'll find Aten." Aria turned her head towards the alley. "I hope that blade was not wiped clean. No…I would have felt the pain of my brother's death. I would have felt him die."

Otogi and Miranda found Aria petting her whimpering dog's head.

"What's wrong with him?"

"Aten and Robbie were here." Aria sighed as she pet his head. "He can smell them."

Tristan ran behind Otogi and looked at the girl petting her dog. "Ryou's not going to be impressed when we show him this."

Otogi shook his head. "It's not Ryou we have to fear, Tris. Ryou can't send us to the Shadow Realm for finding this."

"Good point."

****************************

Marik held the medicine bottle in one hand and the knife in the other. In front of him sat Aten's suicide note.

"What kind of a father am I?" His eyes stared blankly at the paper in front of him. "Why did I not see this coming?"

Tristan put his hand on Marik's shoulder. "It's not your fault, Marik. No one is to blame."

Marik dropped the bottle and the knife and buried his face in his hands, sobbing. "I'm a terrible father!"

Otogi stepped in front of Marik and grabbed his wrists. He yanked his wrists away from the sobbing yami. Nobody knew what was holding Marik back from sending Otogi to the Shadow Realm. "What is important now, Yami Marik, is finding your little boy!"

Tristan inched slowly away from Otogi, fearing Marik's anger.

Marik glared at Otogi, who had the audacity to touch him!

Marik clenched his fists angrily. "Get your hands off of me before I bite them off myself, Dice-Boy."

Otogi removed his hands slowly. "Your son needs you, Marik. I don't know where he is, but he has to be scared if he was willing to go to this extreme."

Miranda folded her hands. "I hope Robbie didn't decide to go along with Aten. I don't want to bury my son anymore than you want to bury yours, Marik. But, we have to find the boys."

Seto and Joey returned from their search, Karl, Jay, and Asher following behind.

"We found these," Tristan said as he held up the knife and the empty bottle of pills.

"Are all of the pills accounted for?" Joey asked.

Marik shrugged. "He was in the middle of a bottle. I'd have to make sure that Tristan picked up all of the pills. What if Aten dropped some or swallowed some? There's no way to know."

Jay turned to Karl. "I really hope we can find the little guys."

"We will. We called Donny. Donny will know what to do."

Seto turned to his men. "We will send everyone out on the search so we can get Aten and Robbie back! Spare no expense! Leave no stone unturned! We have to get them back!"

*************************

Aten opened his eyes clutching his chest. The room around him was blurry. He was vaguely aware of a body pressed up against his back. Everything looked out of focus.

The banging migraine didn't help matters.

The surface on which he lay suddenly rocked.

There was a noise in the room…breathing….shallow breathing.

Aten tried to raise his head and the room began to spin. He laid back down.

"Robbie?"

A sudden cramping formed in his stomach. He leaned over the side of the bed and couldn't help but vomit. He struggled to raise his head again and closed his eyes.

Whatever was pressing against him was cold.

Aten tried to roll over, but he was too weak.

The door opened and Aten saw three blurry figures enter the room.

"How is my little Desert Angel, huh?" The man lifted his eyelids.

"He seems to be okay. He's coming down, though. How is the other one?"

The tall black haired, green-eyed man walked around the side of the bed.

"Uh-oh, Charlie. I think you overdosed this one."

Charlie left Aten and went to Robbie. He opened his eyes and saw his pupils had become pinpoints. His lips and his fingernails had turned blue.

"Shit. I gave this one too large a dose. I thought he could handle it. Guess not. Oh well."

Charlie looked up. "You look after the kid. Monitor his breathing. I'm going to take our little Desert Flower for a ride. Vinnie, you come with me."

Charlie grabbed Aten's wrists and pulled him off the bed. He dragged Aten out of the bedroom and reached into a bureau by the front door.

He pulled out a revolver with a grin. "We'll need this."

Vinnie grabbed Aten's other wrist. "Do you really think that your plan would work? Are you sure you can shoot this kid? Look at him! Those eyes and his hair! His skin color! It'd be a shame to waste a bullet on this kid. The other kid is more expendable."

Charlie grinned at the semi-conscious boy. "That's okay, Vinnie. My Hayden won't let any harm come to his friends. I know he won't."

***********************

Trevor knocked on Hayden's door. "Master Hayden, are you ready to go our shopping?"

Hayden opened his door and sighed. "I don't need a bodyguard, Trev!"

Trevor crossed his arms. He had a daughter who also went through the 'I don't need a babysitter' phase. "Master Kaiba told me that I was going to be your personal bodyguard from now on, Hayden. Do you still want to go shopping?"

Hayden groaned. "Fine. Give me a few minutes."

Hayden shut the door and Trevor waited. Seto's word was law. There was no arguing with him.

Hayden appeared wearing baggy jeans, a Nascar jersey, and a white cap over his red hair. "Let's go," he said with a whine.

"Seto's only looking after you, Master Hayden."

Hayden sighed. "Yeah, right. He's trying to treat me like one of his employees."

"Seto's a rich man. He has lots of enemies. He just wants you safe. He cares a lot for his employees."

Hayden shrugged quietly.

"Joey and Seto love you, Hayden. You can't deny that. Otherwise, wouldn't they have given up on you?"

Hayden looked up, his green eyes defiant. "What do you mean?"

"Well, Alex has talked a lot about you. He said you were quiet and shy when you first arrived here. When Seto and Joey adopted you, you were timid and shaking like a leaf in the wind. Wouldn't they have given up on you if they didn't love you?"

Hayden looked down and shrugged again. "I don't know."

Trevor pat the kid on the shoulder. "Your dads love you more than anything else in this world."

The elevator doors opened and they stepped out.

"I know they do. It's not easy having a famous dad."

Trevor shook his head. "No, it's not."

"Hello, handsome," a feminine voice said to him from behind the desk. Maxine, the "Public Relations Depatment's" resident thief, was filing her nails behind the security desk.

"Hello, Maxie. You're looking nice today."

Maxine winked. "You're not looking too bad yourself. Stepping out, are we?"

"Hayden's going shopping."

Maxine smiled. "Have fun, Master Hayden." Maxine crossed her legs suggestively as she looked up at Trevor again. "Have fun, Mr. Belsing."

Trevor took a deep breath and walked away with Hayden. Maxine was the only female in the department and an expert at avoiding detection. She was an expert thief and she enjoyed her title as such.

Trevor and Hayden stepped out of the building and found Alex walking up the steps. Alex was approaching retirement age. He was also in 'Public Relations.' He was the heart of the department, a kindly old man who tried to keep the short-tempered young ones under control.

"Hello, Hayden! Where are you off to?"

"Going to get some snacks for the car racing this afternoon."

Alex laughed. "You and your cars! So cute! Seto loved his cards when he was a kid. With you, it's your cars." Alex pat Hayden on the head. "Have fun, Hayden."

Alex walked up the stairs.

"Alex is quite a guy," Trevor said.

Trevor walked Hayden down the street. "Where do you wanna go for snacks?"

"Trevor, I'll give you my allowance for the week if you just go home! I don't need a bodyguard!"

"Hayden, I'm not leaving. You are my duty. My job is to watch over you."

Hayden growled. "I don't need you!" Hayden darted away and was chased by Trevor.

Trevor chased after the teenager. "Hayden Kaiba! Get back here!"

Hayden ran down an alley and climbed a fence. Trevor was climbing the fence as Hayden ran down the alley and climbed a pile of boxes.

"Hayden! Stop this instant!"

Trevor jumped off of the fence and darted for the pile of boxes. Hayden jumped off of the boxes and turned the corner down another street. Trevor ran down the alley and kept pursuit of the teenager.

Hayden looked behind him and ran into a man, knocking both of them down.

The man with blue hair looked up. "Hayden?"

Trevor grabbed Hayden and picked him up. "What do you think you are doing?"

Hayden growled and struggled with Trevor. "Get off of me!"

Trevor narrowed his eyes. "Seto is going to be very upset to hear of this!"

The man rubbed his head. "Hayden? What's going on?"

"Mako?"

"Hi, Mako. We're going home now, Hayden!"

A black limousine pulled up beside Hayden and Trevor. The window was pulled down and a rain of gunfire erupted towards the three. Mako let out a scream and fell onto the concrete as a bullet hit him. He laid on the pavement, panting heavily from the shot.

Hayden's eyes widened with fear as he was splattered with Trevor's blood. People ran away from the scene, screaming and shrieking in terror.

Trevor's body shuddered with the bullets that slammed into his body. He fell on top of Hayden.

Hayden screamed and shuddered. He looked up and saw Charlie.

"OH NO! IT'S YOU!"

Charlie opened the door and looked at his nephew. "Hello, Hayden."

Hayden pushed Trevor's body off of him. "I thought you were in prison!"

Charlie laughed. "They released me. Now I've come for you."

Hayden's eyes widened and shivered. "I won't….I can't live the life you made me."

Charlie chuckled. "I do have an incentive for you."

Charlie grabbed Aten's hair and pulled it back. He put the gun to Aten's throat. "Get in this car…..or Aten dies."

Aten shivered, tears running down his eyes. His brown and purple eyes begged for Hayden.

"Hayden…..please……they have Robbie, too."

"Get in here, or Aten dies." Charlie cocked the gun and pointed it at Aten's head, his fingers tensed on the trigger…..
