Returning Curses

Chapter 5: Waking Up

"What happened?"

"Is he going to be okay?"

"Yugi! Wake up!"

The voices spun around in Yugi's head. He couldn't tell who they belonged to, because they were slighty blurred.

/Yami? What happened?/

//...//

Huh? Oh, yeah. The mental communication must still be down.

Yugi slowly opened his eyes and blinked. Why am I tied to a tree? he thought, noticing that a strong rope was securing him to a large tree. He looked up from the ropes, and stared at the scene around him.

The tree he was tied to was next to the pier by the ocean. Joey, Ryou, Tea and Tristan were standing in front of him. Joey was holding his Millennium Puzzle.

"W-what happened?" muttered Yugi hazily.

"Are you okay Yugi?" asked Tea.

"What? Was someone saying something?" said Yugi.

"Are you okay Yugi?" asked Ryou.

"Yes... At least, I think so..." Yugi replied. Tea frowned.

"No one notices me." she complained.

"What? Who said that?" said Joey.

"Never mind." she sighed.

"What happened?" Yugi asked again.

"Don't you know?"

"No..."

"You were wandering around Domino. You looked like you had never been there before." answered Tristan.

"Then you were about to throw your Puzzle off the pier and into the ocean." added Bakura.

"But I don't remember any of that!" exclaimed Yugi. "And why am I tied to a tree?"

"We tried to stop you from pitching your Puzzle, but you went all nuts, and it looked like you were trying to kill us with a wooden board you picked up, so we had to knock you out and tie you here." responded Joey.

"But I would never try to hurt you guys! Never!"

"We know Yugi. That's why we're concerned."

"But... Oh, never mind. Can you untie these ropes?" groaned Yugi.

"Sure." said Ryou, moving forward to untie his friend.

"And can I have my Puzzle back?"

"If you promise not to destroy it." sighed Joey, handing the Puzzle back to Yugi.

//What was that about?// asked Yami.

/Apparently, I just went psycho without knowing it, tried to throw the Puzzle into the ocean and almost killed my friends./

//Huh? You're joking, right? I lost communication with you while we were in your grandpa's shop.//

/I'm not joking. I have no memory of doing those things, though./

//Weird...//

/Can you do something for me, Yami?/

//What?//

/Search my memory to see if I really did do what they said I did./

//Right! See you in a few minutes!//

/Bye, Yami./

"Earth to Yugi!"

"Oh, sorry guys." sighed Yugi. "Just thinking."

"You'd better get home before anything else happens, Yug." said Joey.

"Right." replied Yugi, as he headed for the shop. "See you later!"
