Title: Returning memories

Author: Jinhito

Summary: For right now I'm just kinda going along with what happens but here's the break down... Yami's starting to have strange dreams. Somehow Yugi's connected to them, but how? Yugi wasn't alive back then in Egyptian days right? Then why do things start to make sense in a twisted logical way? Slash {yaoi} pairing(s) Yami/Yugi others later announced.

Jinhito: Okies! 'Bout time I finally posted something on this is site! Seriously, how long has it been since I actually worked on something?

//.¬ Trowa: Uhm... I have a feeling there is no good answer but... uh never?

Jinhito: Disclaimer please?

//.- : Yeah yeah... Alright, Jinhito doesn't own anything that has to deal with Yu-Gi-Oh though I'm quite sure she probably wishes she does -

Jinhito: That's right! Someday, me and other conniving people with own Yu-Gi-Oh! I swear it! *rants about unfair ownership rules*

//.-;; : Yeah, okay, but anyway, her quote is that sharing is only fun when it's not your stuff so obviously she owns nothing except her idea of the fic and maybe an original character she adds in here or there. Hell, she doesn't even own me! *whispers* Thank god too! *back in normal voice* But onto her story! Reviews make us work faster! Please do review!

Chapter 1

Returning memories

"By Ra... it's beautiful out tonight..." Yami remarked from his seat on the windowsill. Yugi pulled his toothbrush from his mouth and spat out the sickeningly minty residue the toothpaste left behind.

"You say something Yami?" he called from the bathroom, still standing on his little stool so he could reach the sink. Little hands moved the vanity mirror towards the silhouetted figure on the window. "Yami?" soft violet eyes saddened when their owner got no reply. The light was turned off in the bathroom, and the pitter patter of un-socked feet entering the room could be heard. Yugi stared up to his Yami's unmoving figure, his gaze lost out onto the street. "Whatcha lookin' at?" Yugi asked as he leaned over to see outside.

Yami simply sighed out a soft whisper, "Nothing Aibou, go to sleep..."

Yugi sighed. "Yami... I know something's bothering you, just tell me... then maybe I can help-"

Yami cut off, "It's nothing Yugi...! Go. To. Sleep." he hissed fiercely, standing and transporting himself to his soul room... also making sure to lock the door behind himself. Yugi flinched at the tone Yami had just used. A look of anguish crossed Yugi's face as those last few words were repeated in his head.

'He never calls me Yugi unless he's really upset. I wonder what I did wrong?' he wondered. Yugi closed his eyes and tired to see into his puzzle's heart. A wave of hurt washed over him as he felt Yami's soul room door completely locked to him. "I really must have messed up..." he sighed and opened his eyes returning to his own room. Yugi looked down to his millennium puzzle. He clutched it in his hands and ran his thumb over the serene eye on it's center piece. "Oh Yami, please let me help you. I only want to help you, not hurt you..." Yugi whispered to the empty room. Yugi walked over to his bed and sat down. After sitting in silence for a moment more, he removed his millennium puzzle from around his neck and placed it on the corner of his headboard. His little hand lingered on his puzzle for a minute more, then went to his heart. "I just want to help you... please let me Yami..." Yugi then laid down and drifted off to sleep.

And inside his soul room, Yami stared at his swirling ceiling of false stars and clouds. "I know Aibou... I know..." he spoke softly from his prostrate position on the bed. Then he too fell into a bottomless pit of sleep and dreams.

(beginning a dream or flashback)

Shadowy figures walked down the halls of a grandiose palace. One figure stepped into the light of a new corridor and stopped in front of a pair of golden doors. The second crossed his arms over his chest in an annoyed fashion. The first bowed respectfully to the second and hastily whispered something. The latter sighed and dismissed his counterpart, turing to watch hims flee into the shadows once more. Now the second was left to himself. He turned to the pair of doors and pushed on them with great force. The golden set of doors slowly creaked open, their hinges crying out as they moved and exposed the dark room to the hallways light. A lithe figure on the bed jumped at the noise. A soft squeak escaping their mouth as they turned to face the room's new occupant.

(ending a dream or flashback)

Yami jerked awake and sat straight up on his bed. Beads of sweat rolled off his forehead. Soft panting gasps escaped his lips. 'What in the hell was that!?' Yami swallowed the lump that had formed in his throat. 'Was it a dream? ... must have been... only a dream...' he let out a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding in. "Only a dream, only a dream, just a dream..." Yami repeated to himself.

'What if it was a memory?' a small voice inside himself wondered?

'I have been remembering a few things lately... hm....' Yami pondered silently.

'Could it have been one?' It absently wondered again.

"Yes but, who were those people...?" Yami questioned the darkness around himself. 'Maybe Aibou knows!' he thought, shutting his eyes and checking their mental link. He reopened his eyes and found himself standing outside his Aibou's soul room.

'Maybe I shouldn't wake him... he might be mad at me still for my actions earlier this evening...' Yami shook his head to dismiss those thoughts, but still they remained. 'I'll apologize, yes... I will.' He gazed up at the door and brought his hand to the handle, but just as he was about to turn the knob, a small sign appeared on the door. "Please do not enter" it read. Yami chuckled to himself, "Yugi, you can't even lock me out of your soul room... you're too nice. 'Though you've never really tried to obstruct me from your room, so you must be at least a little mad.' shaking his head to clear those thoughts, he turned the knob and entered.

Yami stood transfixed in Yugi's doorway. His eyes softened as he watched his hikari sleep. 'Yugi's so angelic when he's awake... even more so when he's asleep..' A small smile found it's way to Yami's lips. But a quite muffled sound removed it just as quickly. A low growl that wasn't human had startled Yami. His protective reflexes took over before any rational thought could reach his brain. Yami rushed forward from the doorway, tripping on some of the toys and items scattered on Yugi's soul room floor in his haste. He cursed softly as he fell towards the wall, propping himself against it for support, he quickly regained composure when that sound reached his ears again. 'I swear, if that monster hurt Yugi, I'll-' he never got to finish his threat as he tripped completely this time on an object on the floor. The loud crash startling all in the room.
