Chapter 5 - We're Through, Yami!

Mrs. Kaiba moved back down into the den when she heard her husband and son go to the upstairs study. They're doing business, she thought. At least I'll finally have some quiet time to do my sewing. She sat down on the couch and picking up her sewing things.

Suddenly, there came a pounding at the door. Mrs. Kaiba waited for the butler to get it, but when the pounding continued for another three minutes, Mrs. Kaiba threw down her sewing in disgust. “Oh the butler would have this day off…” She walked to the front door and opened it. She nearly screamed when Yami almost fell on top of her.

“Good gracious! Yami-kun, what's wrong?” Mrs. Kaiba asked. She helped him inside just as Seto and Mr. Kaiba came running down the stairs.

Seto stopped before reaching the bottom of the stairs as he watched his parents help his ex-boyfriend into the den. Yami was completely soaked and there was a wet bouquet of flowers in his hand. But what had sparked a small flame of concern in Seto's heart was the fact that Yami's jaw was swollen and a bruise was forming.

“There you go, dear. I'll ring for a servant to bring you an ice pack.” Mrs. Kaiba said, sitting Yami down on the couch where Seto and Jounouchi had been earlier than evening.

Seto stood in the doorway and watched his mother pull a cord on the wall. A servant came to stand behind Seto. He looked over his shoulder and said, “Bring an ice pack and hurry.” The servant bowed politely and scampered off.

“You look as though you've been through hell, boy.” Mr. Kaiba said. Mrs. Kaiba draped a warm blanket around Yami's shoulders. Seto's parents cared very much for Yami and sometimes thought of him as part of the family.

“No. I was attacked.” Yami replied. He held up the bouquet towards Seto. “I brought these for you, Seto-chan.”

“How sweet.” Mrs. Kaiba said.

Seto could tell she didn't mean it. He made no move to take the bouquet or even step into the room. He didn't love Yami anymore. Realization hit him in that instant. Jounouchi must've caused that bruise! But why? Was it jealousy? Or did Yami attack Jounouchi first?

“Well,” said Mr. Kaiba, “don't just stand there, son. Take the flowers.”

The servant from before came back with the ice pack. Seto stepped aside and said, “Give it to him”—he gestured to Yami—“then put those flowers he has in water.”

Yami threw down the flowers and snatched the ice pack from the servant when she held it out to him. She grabbed the flowers left the room, sensing that now was a good time to fade into the background.

“Perhaps you would prefer some flowers from that blonde I saw leaving your house.” Yami grunted as he pressed the ice pack to his swollen jaw.

“What blonde?” Mr. Kaiba looked at his son. “I didn't see a blonde anybody when I came home.”

“Neither did I.” Mrs. Kaiba said, also looking at her son.

Seto's fear made him feel small, but he mastered it. Yami's trying to get me into trouble, he thought. It was definitely Jounouchi who gave him that bruise. But who started it? Probably Yami…

“Seto?” Mr. Kaiba asked in his scolding tone.

Seto smirked and shrugged. “I have no idea what he's talking about. I don't know any blondes. Unless you'd count Marik as a blonde, but I haven't seen him all day.”

“Yes you do. He was a tall blonde guy with dark brown eyes. He was wearing a denim jacket over a white T-shirt with blue jeans and dark shoes. I saw him running out of this mansion and stop at the sidewalk and look back. He said that you invited him over for a chat and some soda.” Yami snapped. He cringed from the pain in his jaw.

“Blonde hair and brown eyes? That sounds suspiciously like that slacker Wheeler. He and his son both have blonde hair and dark brown eyes.” Mr. Kaiba said, eying his son accusingly.

“C'mon Dad!” Seto said, calmly. I want to slap Yami across the face for this, he thought. “There are plenty of people around these parts with blonde hair and dark brown eyes. I just invited a new friend over.”

“Really?” said Mrs. Kaiba. “You should have introduced us, Seto.”

Seto shrugged and lied through his teeth, “He was waiting in the dining room, but nobody wanted to talk to him.”

“So that's why you were so jumpy today! Oh Seto-chan, you really should have told me. I would have been glad to meet this new friend of yours!” Mrs. Kaiba exclaimed.

Lying bitch, Seto thought. Of course after this, I'll be no better. “I didn't think you both would like him. Considering he's gay like me.”

“Seto Kaiba, you know we have nothing against your sexuality!” Mr. Kaiba snapped. “Anyways, we'll talk about that another time.” He turned to Yami and said, “You can stay here until the rain stops.”

“Thank you, sir.” Yami said quietly.

Mrs. Kaiba took her son's elbow. “Come with me for a minute, Seto.” Seto followed his mother out of the room, not bothering to look back at Yami's glaring eyes.

“Yami…” said Mr. Kaiba in a low voice. “Did this blonde give you his name?”

“No sir. Why? Is he a Wheeler?” Yami asked.

“I don't know. Next time you see him, I want you to take a picture of him. I've seen a picture of the Wheeler brat before. I loathe the Wheelers to no end. And I hope to God that this blonde boy that my son is talking about isn't a Wheeler.” Mr. Kaiba shuttered at the thought of a Wheeler being inside his house.

“I'll keep an eye out, sir.” Yami said.

“Seto-chan, did you break up with Yami-kun?” Mrs. Kaiba asked her son as they stepped into the dining room.

“I suppose it shows.” was all Seto could reply.

“Does this mean—?”

“No, Mother…I'm still gay.” Seto snapped, bitterly.

Mrs. Kaiba sighed heavily. “I guess…”

“Mother, why don't you just have another kid? Then you could spoil him or her with love, affection and presents.” Seto said.

“I couldn't possibly! I love your father dearly, but making love at my age is just—”

“Oh my God, don't even go there!” Seto left the room just as his father was going upstairs. Seto didn't think Mr. Kaiba would say anything, so Seto went into the den where Yami was still sitting on the couch, holding the ice pack to his cheek.

Time to break the news, he thought. Seto sat on the other couch, opposite of Yami. Neither spoke for a while or even looked at one another. Seto waited for Yami to look at him.

Yami turned to his “boyfriend” and said, “So who is this blonde…really?”

“I told you. He's a new friend. I met him last night, gave him my number and told him to call me whenever he liked.”

“You know what he said to me? He said that I wasn't your boss…that I should back off…that you feel trapped enough with your crappy parents. Is that true, Seto? Do I make you feel trapped?”

Seto just sat there for what seemed like a long time. At least somebody told him the truth, he thought. I should break it off now. “Yes. It's true.” He decided to blurt everything out and snapped, “I'm tired of you trying to tell me what to do. All you've done since our relationship started was control me. You've ordered me not to do this, or not to do that. Don't buy that, Seto. Buy me this, Seto.”

“You're my boyfriend! You're supposed to do those things for me!”

“You've told me who to talk with. You call my cell every twenty minutes to play 20 questions with me. You always ask about what I've done in my free time and who I've been with and what I've talked to other people about! That's not what a boyfriend is supposed to do.” Seto was shouting now. He and Yami were standing by this point and Yami's blood was boiling to the point where he wanted to hit Seto. But he couldn't hit the one he loved.

“I love you!” Yami snapped, wincing at the sudden pain in his jaw.

“You love controlling me.” Seto said, calming down. “It's over between us, Yami. Find someone else to control.”

“You were always in control when we made love. Is that all I was to you, Seto-chan? A sex toy?!”

“At times, I thought so.” Seto said. “Just leave…”

“Your parents said that I could stay until the rain stopped.”

“Then borrow one of our umbrellas. They're by the door. Now go or I'll boot you out myself and you know damn well that I have the strength to do so, bitch!” Seto hissed.

Yami didn't frown, because of his jaw, but his eyes sparkled with anger, sadness and hurt. “It's that blonde isn't it? Heh…I think you'll be glad to know that I gave him quite a beating before he hit me in the—” He didn't finished, because Seto came at him and grabbed his shirt collar.

“You fucking bastard?! How dare you hurt him?! I ought to punch your fucking lights out!” Seto shouted. He hauled Yami off his feet and half-carried, half-dragged Yami to the door. By this time, the rain had lightened and the thunder was getting quieter.

“Seto!” Yami grunted as Seto pushed him out of the house. Seto grabbed a blue umbrella leaning against the wall next to the door. He threw it at Yami. The umbrella hit Yami in the stomach and the spiky-haired teen let it fall to the ground.

“And stay out! We're through, Yami! If I catch you around my house again, I'll call the police and get your ass arrested.” Seto shouted, slamming the door.

Yami kicked the umbrella at the closed door. He whirled around and marched home. Through all the rain, you couldn't even tell how much he was crying…

Tis so sad. Poor Yami. Don't feel sorry for the guy. He's gonna go all psycho at the end, then suicidal. Yami's just gotten the short end of everything. In Lustful Cravings, he was the psychotic rapist and in this fanfic he's the controlling boyfriend who's gonna do something suicidal… o.o;
