I heard from one of my readers and fellow, brilliant fanfic writers that they're having trouble writing reviews. Dx That stink-eth majorly. I hope that problem doesn't continue for very long…
Chapter 10 - Into Eternity with You
“Any change, doctor?” Seto asked the doctor that had been treating Jounouchi.
“We've managed to retrieve the bullet from his back. He barely survived the surgery. We might have to do more surgery to fix the shattered bone in his arm but…” the doctor sighed. “It'll be a miracle if he ever wakes up again.”
Seto nodded. “Have all of Jounouchi medical expenses taken out of my bank account.” He went to Jounouchi's room and found his blonde lover lying on a hospital bed with an IV stuck in his good arm. His broken arm was wrapped up like a mummy's arm. Jounouchi had an oxygen mask around his mouth and nose. He was breathing, thank goodness!
Seto ran to Jounouchi's side, where his good arm was. He brought a chair up, sat down and put a hand over Jounouchi's. “It'll be all right, Pup. If you can hear, Pup, you've got to fight it. Don't die and leave me alone. I can't live without you. You're the only one who ever understood me. The man I really am, that's the man you know and love and I want to show him to you forever. We'll go back to our apartment and we'll live there, in your old neighborhood, so you'll be happy again.”
Jounouchi could barely hear Seto. It sounded as though his brunette lover was far away. If he had the strength, Jounouchi would've said: “Yes. That sounds like a great idea. If our dumb ass parents wanna feud, let `em! But they can leave us out of it.”
Seto stroked Jounouchi's hair and thought about what sort of life they would have together, after all this was over and Jounouchi was completely better. Well, Seto did have a lot of money in his second bank account. But after paying Jounouchi's hospital bills, who knew how much he'd be left with. Okay, so money was a factor they would have to work out. But they could both get jobs. Seto knew lots of respected people; he could easily get a well-paying job. Finding Jounouchi a job would be no problem as well. Seto would use his high-power influence to get Jounouchi a good job with reasonable pay.
Even though the neighborhood wasn't the best, Seto would grow to like it. If Jounouchi could actually live there for most of his life, then certainly Seto could live there too. Maybe someday Seto could meet this Tristan Jounouchi kept talking about. And the three of them could go out clubbing and going to strip joints. Then Seto would drag a drunken Jounouchi back to their apartment and have delicious sex with him for the rest of the night.
It sounded wonderful, especially the sex with Jounouchi part. Seto explained his plan to Jounouchi, who lay listening in silent with his eyes closed and his chest fluttering up and down from breathing. Seto had a feeling that Jounouchi approved of this plan. He was sure that Jounouchi had connections and could easily find a place nearby that was hiring.
Seto sighed. He felt tired and continued stroking Jounouchi's hair. In came the doctor with a couple nurses following him.
“Mr. Kaiba, we've come to check Mr. Wheeler's progress.”
Seto nodded. “Fine. I'll leave. Come and get me when you're done, please.” He stood and left the room. He went to the waiting room, but his parents and the Wheelers were gone. Figures, he thought, they left without seeing if Jounouchi was going to make it. Well, I'm not leaving until I know that Jounouchi's all right.
He yawned and laid down on one of the couches in the waiting room. He was fast asleep within minutes.
————————
“Doctor, we're loosing him!”
“What?! That can't be! He's breathing normal, his pulse is fine—wait, his bedsheets are soaked…blood! The hole in his back must've reopened! Hurry, we've got to get him back into surgery!”
“It's no use, doctor, he's going.”
“Clear!”
“His pulse is fading, doctor!”
“Clear!”
“He's trying to talk, sir.”
“S-Seto…”
“Get Mr. Kaiba, now!”
——————
Seto woke to someone shaking him violently. Seto sat up to see a frantic nurse standing beside him. “What is it? Is it—?”
“It's Mr. Wheeler, sir. You have to come and quickly.” the nurse said. Seto jumped up and followed her to the emergency room. There was blood everywhere and Jounouchi was fighting for his life on a little, white table, surrounded by doctors, orderlies, and nurses.
Seto fled to his lover's side and grabbed hold of Jounouchi's good hand as the doctor worked frantically to repair his back and save his life.
Jounouchi could just barely see Seto's face through glazed eyes. “S-Seto…”
“Pup! Hang on, please! I can't live without you! I love you so…” Seto cried out as the doctors shouted orders under the brilliant lights.
“I…l-love…you too…” Jounouchi clutched Seto's hand as hard as his failing strength could.
“Jounouchi! Hang on!”
“Doctor…” said one of the nurses, pointing at the equipment.
“Jounouchi…” Seto whispered as he grasped the limp hand of his beloved. He looked up and stopped a tray of sharp needles and scalpels on a shiny cart.
“Mr. Kaiba, don't touch those!” shouted one of the orderlies.
——————
The Wheelers and the Kaibas reluctantly entered the hospital again after much arguing and fussing and demands form the wives. There was a slight air of panic and commotion coming from the corridor where the emergency room was located.
“What the hell is going on?” asked Mr. Wheeler.
“There must've been an accident or something.” Mr. Kaiba told him.
“Where is Seto? Mrs. Kaiba wondered out loud.
“Perhaps he's with my baby.” Mrs. Wheeler replied.
A doctor approached them with a grim expression on his face. “I'm afraid…I have bad news for all of you.”
Mrs. Wheeler clung to her husband. “Oh no…is it my son?”
The doctor nodded. “We got rid of the bullet in his back, but…he lost a lot of blood during the surgery. When he went to check on his progress while he was resting in his room, we found that his wound had reopened. We tried our best.”
Mrs. Wheeler buried her face in her husband's chest and sobbed. Mrs. Kaiba's face went pale. Her motherly instincts were telling her that something else was terribly wrong.
She approached the doctor and asked, “Where is my son? Where is Seto?”
The doctor shook his head. “He said he couldn't live without his lover.”
The parents looked at the doctor. Mrs. Kaiba covered her mouth and backed up. She began to tremble and suddenly she looked 50 years older than she really was. Mr. Kaiba gripped her shoulders, helping her to stay on her feet.
“Seto…oh God…my son…” Mrs. Kaiba pushed away from her husband and she and Mrs. Wheeler embraced, weeping for their sons.
——————
“Wake up, Pup.”
“Huh? Seto-sama? Where are we?”
“That's not important, Pup. We're together for all eternity.”
“Holy crap…I'm flying! You are too! But that means…”
“Yes.”
“Seto…did you—?”
“Yes, Pup. I said I couldn't live without you. I followed you into eternity.”
“Seto…I love you.”
“And I love you, Pup.”
“You can stop calling me that now.”
“Heh…all right.”
