Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Second Chance ❯ School Daze, Holiday Blaze ( Chapter 1 )
Author's Note: Okay, everyone! I would've had this up sooner if it weren't for my computer. ::kicks it:: For all of you with WinME and below, you all know what the "Blue Screen of Death" is right? It's that blue screen that keeps saying "Press Any Key to Continue" and that same screen keeps showing up every time you press a key, therefore never letting you continue. Well, WinXP has developed its own version. Instead of "Pressing Any Key to Continue" that stupid screen NEVER goes away unless you restart losing all your work in the possess…no, I didn't lose my story, but I DID have to reinstall WinXP, which is a pain in the butt, I might add. And since I had my brother visiting, I couldn't install it until he left, which was on Sunday night, so yeah, sorry everyone!

Chapter 1
Yami stretched. //Man, that last exam almost did me in. Good thing I decided to read that extra chapter for those bonus-questions.// All he would have to do is wait for his grades in the mail. //College is so much harder than everyone makes it out to be.// He sighed. He handed in his papers to the professor and left.
He started on his walk to his dorm. When he entered, he saw his suitcases where he left them after packing. //Going home for a couple weeks will feel good. I'll get to see everyone again.// This year they all decided to meet in Domino for the holiday break. They, meaning him, Marik, and his boyfriend and his sister, Bakura, Ryou, Kaiba, Jounouchi and Honda. He had made friends with Jounouchi and Honda during his last year of high school. Surprisingly, Kaiba and Jounouchi actually started going out. Yami was sure their conflicting attitudes would drive each other nuts. And he was half right. They drove each other nuts to the point of them falling in love.
Senior year had been especially hard on him. Knowing they were all going their own separate way. Marik had left in their freshmen year, but he seemed quite happy about it now. He found his love from his past.
Jounouchi had moved in with Kaiba and they both attended the local university in Domino. Surprisingly, Jounouchi had managed to pull off the grades to get accepted.
Honda moved to the United States and was now seeing a girl named Shizuka. Everyone was happy for Honda, except Jounouchi. //Heh, I still remember the look on his face when Honda told us. As soon as he heard the name Jounouchi Shizuka, he started pounding his head against the wall.// Needless to say, Shizuka was the blonde's little sister.
Ryou and Bakura moved to England. Ryou had some family roots back there and after a lot of bribing Bakura gave in. They were the ones that Yami probably talked to more then anyone else. Bakura shared details about their previous lives and most of the time Yami found it beyond hilarious. Sneaking off into the city and tricking guards when Yami was young. The white-haired teen made many attempts to keep Yuugi out of the conversation, but the former Pharaoh wanted to hear everything about his unrequited love, no matter how it hurt.
Yami's family, they became even further from their son. They were always at a distance, but the detachment grew when he moved. //Which is why I'm surprised they called to ask me to stay with them for the break.//
And as for Yami... he put Yuugi out of his mind, at least he tried very hard. After that day, he stopped feeling altogether. No, he was not heartless, just broken hearted. He felt whole around Yuugi, the times they talked together always stayed in his mind. He felt he would never love anyone else.
All of them remembered all of their past, except Yami. He kept his promise and never put on the necklace. His dreams had stopped and all he was left with was the happy memories he had of the past with him. As he had no happy moments with Yuugi in the present time.
He flopped on his bed and idly wondered what he was doing now. Did he miss him? Or did he forget? The thought to put the necklace back on tempted him more now than ever. They haven't talked since that night. //It's been four years. He must have changed a lot.// He opened the drawer next to him and took out his necklace. He kept it in good condition, hoping for a day he could rightfully wear it again.

Yuugi sighed as he hung the `open' sign on the door. He walked to the counter to wait out the day. There would hardly be any customers until the afternoon when school got out for the day. "Yuugi?"
He spun around. "Grandpa! You shouldn't be out of bed!"
"I know my boy," his grandpa smiled, "but I feel bad you have to-"
"I want to, Grandpa. You're my only family. More important than my friends and school."
Yuugi's grandpa leaned heavily against the wall. "You shouldn't have to, Yuugi. You should have already finished your first semester of college, not taking care of your grandpa."
"We've been over this. I promised I'd stay until you recovered." The day Yuugi found his grandpa on the floor replayed in his mind.
He had just come back from school. It was a week until graduation and Yuugi had found out he passed the exam for Tokyo University and was offered a full scholarship. He walked in and found it weird that that no one was at the counter. He went to the back to see if he was there. He was. Yuugi quickly dialed the emergency number and in no time he was at the hospital waiting for someone to tell him what was wrong with him. It was a heart attack. Mild, but should be taken seriously.
Yuugi babied his grandpa, not wanting to lose the only member of his family. He had let himself be convinced to attend his graduation ceremony, but he turned down his place at Tokyo University. He knew his grandfather was recovering, but he did not want to leave him until a year passed.
"Isn't there anything-"
"-you can do to change my mind?"
The elder man chuckled. "Your heart's so big. You could easily love the whole world." He disappeared back into the domestic part of the building.
/Just because I can love everyone doesn't mean they can love me back./ He took a look at his necklace and got lost in thought. /If the past repeated itself, then that would mean I would die again./ A second thought had entered this reasoning as it has done since the beginning. / What if we were given a second chance?/ And he had to wonder whether or not he passed up the best thing life can ever offer him.

He looked around the airport and spotted two of his friends. He smiled as he approached them. "Bakura! Marik!" His companions grinned as they saw Yami walk to them.
They shook hands and pulled Yami into a hug. Being away for so long had caused them mental damage was how they explained their sudden display of affection.
"It's great to be in familiar settings again," Yami commented as they passed buildings on their trip to Yami's house." Marik nodded and a couple minutes later stopped the car. "Huh? Why have we stopped?" Then he saw the mansion. Huge, would be an understatement.
"This is our host's house," Marik explained.
"Kaiba's? I thought my parents-"
Bakura shook his head. "Yami..."
"Dammit! I should've know."
"I'm sorry-"
Yami closed his eyes. "Save it, Bakura. I'd rather have my parents tell me that."
They helped Yami carry his bags. When Yami rang the doorbell, he heard a voice holler, "I'm comin'!" The door was flung open and Jounouchi stood in the doorway. "Hey, Yami! I'm sorry `bout yer parents. They called soon after you called to say you were on yer way. They said they had some important meetin' or somethin'."
"That's okay. I was just stupid enough to believe in them." He smiled. "So, where's Seto?"
"Right here." A hand slid around Jounouchi's waist as the millionaire joined them. "Come in, Yami. I'll show you to your room so you get unpacked." They followed Kaiba up the stairs and entered a room. "Make yourself at home, Yami."
Marik grinned. "By the end of two weeks we'll turn this place upside down, by the end of three, you'll be upside down." Bakura and Yami joined laughing with Marik. Soon, Jounouchi and even Kaiba cracked a smile.
"Obviously, you guys are too hyper. So, after you're settled in, Yami, you get the meet Malik and his sister, Isis, along with Jounouchi's sister, Shizuka."
Jounouchi frowned. "I'm gonna kill Honda..."
"Anyway, there might be one more person joining us, but he's being stubborn."
Briefly forgetting, this person's name wasn't mentioned, Yami asked, "What's he being stubborn about?"
"His grandpa had a heart attack towards the end of his senior year. Ever since then, it's almost impossible to get him to do anything besides take care of his grandpa."
Y-n-Y: Yes, I know, I'm evil. Please remember to review with chapter titles!! ^___^
Another Author's Note: Someone who reviewed "Breaking Barriers" on MediaMiner said I should "turn it NC-17" ...um...defiantly not...number one I can't write stories like that. Then there's FF.net's new "rule" and to tell you honestly, even if I *could* write a lemon, I really don't want to lose all my precious reviews. I'm just saying it now so no one else asks me to write a lemon scene. But feel free to fill in the gaps I leave open. ^_^ Thanks ^.^V
MediaMiner Readers: I know that I can post NC-17 fics here, but I can't write them. That's not saying I wish I could, it's just my stories are ones coming from my PG-13 mind and while lemon may fit into the scenes, I didn't plan them in there. Also, you'll be seeing chapter names appear soon, as I'm getting the ideas from FF.net readers, so all the names I give credit for are FF.net users, I'm telling you this so that way if someone happens to have the same name on MediaMiner they won't think I'm some crazy person they don't know. So, I hope you guys keep reading my fics still. And starting with this story I'll start writing little responses to the reviewers and such as I have been doing with the reviewers on FF.net. Thanks a bunch for reading! ^_^V
