From Food to Water, the Fight Continues (thanks Synchronized Love)

Chapter 5

Yami and Yuugi were still a little shaken when they went to bed. They didn't tell anyone about the note as they were afraid everyone else might get involved. Nothing seemed as simple as it did just hours ago.

"Yami, do you think we will make it?"Yuugi said as he climbed in bed next to Yami.

"Of course, you just have to believe, remember? As long as we're together we'll be okay."He wrapped his arms around the smaller boy and held him close. "Don't be afraid, Yuugi, I will protect you with my life."Yuugi fell asleep in safe arms as Yami stayed awake, protecting his re-found love.

They next morning, Yuugi woke up and found himself alone. /Yami?/

//In the shower.// He had been hesitant to leave Yuugi alone, but Yami realized it wouldn't be a good idea to have Yuugi see that he had gotten no sleep.

Yuugi wondered why Yami took a shower with him still sleepingand especially why Yami was still wearing the necklace. /Mind if I join you?/

//Actually, I'mjust about done here, Yuugi.//

The smaller one was disappointed. /Oh, okay... I'll take one after you're done./ Yuugi sat up and yesterday's events came back to him. Ending with the note he had found. He stood out of the bed and looked at the note again. He knew nothing would be easy. He found his sleep troubled by visions of his death. Not the one from his past life either. He had taken his own life after Yami and the assassin were killed.

Yuugi awoke in Yami's arms. Suddenly the door burst open. A shadowy-figure stood in the doorway and a long knife glimmeredin his hand. Yuugi's sudden fear awoke Yami to the danger.

"Pharaoh,"the voice said, "I will make you suffer, first by taking away what you value the most."

The figure leaped at Yuugi, his arm with the dagger outstretched. Doing the only thing Yami could think of, he hid Yuugi in his arms and put his back faced to the attacker. Yuugi watched in horror as he saw Yami's eyes widen as the knife pierced his skin. "NOOO!!!"Yuugi cried out. He felt all of Yami's weight push him to the bed."Yami..."

"Yuugi, I told you, I... wouldn't let you... die..."Yami took in a deep breath. "I... love..."Yami's eyes shut for a final time.

Enraged by this, Yuugi rolled from under his fallen love. He saw Yami's blood spreading from the wound, just as his had in the past. He pulled the knife out of his love and saw the blood traveling on the silver blade. His eyes met the shadow's cold ones. "I won't forgive you!"He jumped at theshadow and extended the knife.

He blinked as he realized exactly what he had done. "Oh, no..."He looked at the damage he caused. He looked at the knife in the shadow's chest. "I... murdered... someone..."He felt sick at the thought of taking another's life... He pulled the bloodied knife and pointed it towards his own heart. /Wait for me, Yami.../

That's when he woke up.

Yuugi heard the water turn off and he went into the bathroom to greet Yami. He opened the door and saw Yami looking in the mirror.The smaller one noticed a difference in Yami's appearance. His eyes were red,he didn't stand up straight... all-in-all he looked sleep deprived. "Yami?"

Yami turned and smiled lazily at Yuugi. "Sleep well?"

"Not really. I had a nightmare."

"Do you want to tell me about it?"

Yuugi just shook his head and laid a kiss on Yami's slightly open mouth. "No, I think I'll be fine.I'll just take a shower now."

Yuugi stood there looking expectantly at Yami. "What?"

"I would like to take a shower."

Yami rolled his eyes. "And this is coming from someone who wanted to join me.And it's not like I haven't seen..."

"Be quiet," Yuugi said frustrated.

Yami just laughed and left Yuugi to his shower.

They all met downstairs for a late breakfast, as no one was up until after ten. Marik and Malik joined Yuugi and Yami downstairs first. Followed by the two white heads, then Isis, then Mokuba and finally Seto and Jounouchi, who refused to get up the many times his lover had tried.

The group had noticed the uneasiness surrounding Yuugi and Yami, but didn't say anything about it, not wanting to cause a riff in the new relationship. Yami was constantly aware of everything around him, not wanting an unexpected surprise. "Mokuba suggested we go to the beach today," Kaiba said as everyone finished up their late meal. "Maybe we could spend a few days at the house down there."

Yuugi, forgetting his troubles, reverted back into the little kid he used to be and practically begged Yami for a vote in favor of going.

//But I'm not sure... What if this person follows us?//

Yuugi, taking a big 360 from his attitude the previous night, argued /Yami, we can't live in fear. And we'll be around the others. They'll help us if we're in trouble./

//Yuugi...//

/Pretty, please?/ he batted his eyes.

Yami sighed, giving in. "That sounds good." He looked around and saw the others giving him a weird glance before nodding their heads.

"Then that's settled. Let's get packed up. We'll leave when everyone's done."

They all spread out to their rooms to pack. "Thanks, Yami!" Yuugi draped an arm around Yami's waist. "We'll have fun. Nothing to worry about."

Yami leaned over to plant a kiss on his love's cheek. "I hope so."

A shadow lurked through the halls, watching the unsuspecting. "So you think you won't be followed?" The shadow crept until he was outside, waiting until their departure. "When you get back, you'll be in for a surprise or two." He started laughing manically.

"You ready yet, Yami?" Yuugi asked impatiently as he sat on the bed.

"Almost!"Yami pushed the CD case into the bag hoping it would fit.

Finally, he zipped the bag back up. Yuugi grabbed his arm, as the other one was holding his bag, picked up his own bag and dragged him down to the car. "We're the last ones, Yami!" Yuugi complained.

The taller one laughed. "You sound like a little kid, Yuugi. The beach isn't going anywhere."

The reached the car and were in fact the last ones to arrive. "Took you guys long enough," Mokuba said from the front seat.

"Don't look at me," Yuugi point to Yami, "he's the one that decided to forget his CDs the last minute." Yami glared.

After the car was loaded they were on their way to the shore. Yami found himself having a hard time trying not to fall asleep. He finally gave in thinking that not much could happen in the car. He closed his eyes and allowed darkness to cover him.

"Yami? Yami! We're here!"

Yami opened one eye to see Yuugi's face slightly above his. "Hmm...?"

"We're at the beach, sleepy-head." He nudged Yami to wake him up.

"Oh, okay." Yami rubbed his eyes a bit and followed Yuugi out of the car and grabbed his bag as Yuugi grabbed his. Then the shock of seeing the house fully awakened Yami. //If I didn't know better, I'd say this is bigger then the one in Domino.//

Yuugi nodded. /Yeah, it probably is. But that just means more room to have a food fight in./

//No more of that, Yuugi. You had too much fun last time.//

Yuugi laughed as they made their way inside the house. Kaiba and Jounouchi showed them to their rooms. //Well, it's obviously Jounouchi has been here a lot.//

Yuugi blushed. /Probably./

Once they were settled they decided to go out to the beach and lay in the sand. Yuugi and Yami were alone on their towels as the others decided to start WWWFI (World War Water Fight I). //Maybe, you're right, Yuugi. Maybe it'll be okay here.//

Yuugi nodded and he felt Yami's arms wrap around him. /Yami, I don't think they would enjoy a show./ Yuugi said gesturing to the others.

//They're not paying attention.// Yami said as his hand inched under Yuugi's shirt.

/Yami.../

//Yes?// he asked innocently.

/I WILL get you back for this./

Yami smiled as his lover gave in. //You have nothing to be embarrassed about.//

Yuugi just rolled his eyes.
