Chapter 7

Chains and Pains (Thankies tefla!)

"Um, Yami?" Yuugi's eyes followed the balloon's remains' descent.

Yami himself displayed shock in his eyes. //Since when was I able to do that?//

/Since now, I guess./

Yami knew it had to have been magic. But did he actually cast the barrier without realizing it? A thought from his past clicked with him. //Of course! I used to have magic! That was how I was able to put the spell on our necklaces.//

Yuugi nodded his head and repeated it aloud for the others to hear.

The others silently made a note to only attack Yami if it was a sneak attack.

Yami and Yuugi left the group to take a well-needed shower. They climbed into the warm water, letting it rinse sand and other stuff away. Yami stood behind his love and found the bottle of shampoo. He began to wash Yuugi's hair and the shorter boy practically melted against him. Yami carefully rinsed out the soap, careful not to let it drip in the purple eyes. He repeated the same actions with the strawberry scented conditioner and got the same reactions from Yuugi.

Yami quickly washed his own hair and washed their bodies with soap as the need for food took control of their actions.

After they dressed a knock was heard and Yuugi let the unexpected visitor in. "Dinner will be here in about an hour, so you might want to wait," Mokuba asked.

Yuugi looked over to Yami who nodded. "No problem, we can hold on a little longer," he told Mokuba. The raven haired boy nodded and quietly left the room.

The two boys curled up on the bed. "Yuugi?"

"Yeah?"

"I can't believe what I'm about to say." Yami laughed bitterly. "I want to go visit my parents." Another laugh escaped him. It was merely a way to keep his anger at the people who raised him, if you could call it that, in check. "The visit probably won't even last a day, but I don't think I'd have the strength to come back here after that."

The smaller boy wrapped his arms around Yami, knowing that his parents weren't exactly the best parents ever. "You sure you want to go?"

Yami nodded. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath before whispering, "Come with me?"

"What?"

"To my parent's house."

Yuugi nodded and placed a soft kiss on Yami's eyelids. The taller boy opened his eyes and smiled. "Thank you."

"When will we go?"

"On the day we leave. That way we can enjoy our time at Seto's."

The next day, the group packed and left the beach house, heading back to Domino City. Yuugi had curled up on Yami's lap, breathing lightly against his love's neck. Yami turned his head to watch the scenery go by, having a slight feeling that something was going to go wrong when they arrived. //That guy can obviously sneak in and out without detection. Who knows what he could have done while we were away. He could have set a trap for us.//

"Mmm... Yami? Are we there...?"

Yami wiped his dark look off his face and put a smile on. "No, not yet. Go back to sleep."

Yuugi sighed and closed his eyes.

Despite what Yami believed, Yuugi was in fact not asleep. He heard what Yami had thought. And it scared him because he knew that it could happen. If this person killed the Yuugi in the past, what's to stop him now?

Yuugi opened his eyes when he felt weight on his head. He smiled when he realized Yami had dozed off. /No, I must be brave. I won't let Yami die. I protected him before and I'll do it again if I have to./ He knew that in an instant he would die for Yami all over again. /And even if it comes to that, the promise of reincarnation means we'll never be truly separated./

Yami opened his eyes to darkness. He felt around searching for Yuugi. "Yuugi?"

"Well, awake are you, Pharaoh?" A voice called out.

"Who are you?!"

"Wouldn't you like to know?" the dangerous voice replied. "In Ancient Egyypt I went by a name. Maybe you might even recall the name Muraki."

Yami gasped at the name. "You're..."

"That's right, Pharaoh." Aqua green eyes were made too easy to see as Yami felt the shadow approach. "No need to introduce yourself. I tend to already know my prey."

"What do you want?! Where's Yuugi?!" The former Pharaoh struggled against his chains. "If you've done anything...!"

"You are in no position to make threats, Pharaoh! That is, unless you value his life." With a snap, a light lit up a small corner of the room where Yuugi was sitting, wide-eyed, scared to even blink. Yami started to thrash more violently." Tsk, tsk." Yuugi let out a scream. "You see, Pharaoh, you're not the only one to wield magic. Every time you pull, it'll be like trying to pull of one of your lover's limbs." The figure receded back to Yuugi. "You see, I managed to trap both of you in this little dream. While nothing is real in the outer world, here it'll feel like the pain as if it were real. And the damage you cause will be shown in the real world. Such a gift my magic has brought me." Muraki tugged a little at the chains binding Yuugi to the wall. "And it works in reverse, too. Allow me to demonstrate."

A hand grasped hold of Yuugi's left arm and pulled it. Yami immediately felt the pain surging through his left arm. After the pain has receded, Yami narrowed his eyes, his throat still raw with the scream he had let out. He looked back at Yuugi who had tears running down his face. "I'm... I'm sorry, Yami... I can't protect you..." the little one buried his head in his knees.

"No, it's not your fault... Yuugi, listen to me-"

"Quiet!" The two prisoners did as commanded, fearful of the pain. "As fun as this has been, I can't let your friends get any ideas." He brandished a small dagger. "Don't worry, unfortunately I can't kill you in a dream, that has to be a task for the outside world, but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to leave a small reminder of our visit." He walked behind Yuugi and lifted up the boy's shirt.

Yami watched as Yuugi whimpered when the blade was drawn against his back. //No, it's just a dream, just a dream... this isn't really happening...// he repeated in his mind.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yami woke up. Eyes wide and his left arm hurt like hell. He looked down at Yuugi in his lap. //He seems all right.// He wasn't aware of the eyes that had settle on Yuugi and himself. Yami realized they weren't moving. "Um, guys?" Yami looked up and saw various sets of eyes looking at him. "What?"
"Whatdya mean `what?' You guys started screaming yer heads off and nearly drove us off the road," Jounouchi said. "What happened?"
//It wasn't a dream. It happened.// "I just had a nightmare, that's all."
"Yuugi, too?"
"Probably." Yami started to feel Yuugi stir. "Yuugi? You awake?"
Yuugi slowly opened his eyes half-way. When he tried to sit up a bit more, he let out a scream. "My back!"
Yami took his arm from around Yuugi and found that it was covered in blood... Yuugi's blood. "Yuugi! You're bleeding!"
Yuugi gave him a sharp look. "Really? I hadn't noticed."
The former Pharaoh rolled his eyes. "Come on, take off your shirt." Yuugi did as told. Yami turned his love around and looked at his back. //Well, it could've been worse.// Yami took off his own shirt to wipe away the trail of blood with. When he finished cleaning, he wrapped Yuugi's shirt around the open wound. "When we get to Kaiba's it's you in the bathtub so I can treat that wound better."
Yuugi nodded.
"Okay, Yami, you're gonna start explaining to us about what's going on," Kaiba said, his blue eyes turning to ice.
Yami nodded. "As soon as I'm done with Yuugi, I'll tell you what happened."
Kaiba started up the car again and resumed driving.
/Yami, I don't want to go to sleep./
Y-n-Y: O.O I hurt Yuugi! I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry! ...At least I didn't kill him... ._. Please dun hurt me!! I'M TOO YOUNG TO DIE!!!!!!!!!!
