Chapter 9

Surprisingly, nothing more happened in the remaining days of spring break. While always being careful, they now could relax a bit.

On the morning of the last day, Yami and Yuugi began to pack their items. Yami had been on the phone talking to his mom to make sure it would be all right to go over for a while. "So, it's also okay that I bring my friend, right?...Yuugi...Okay...yeah...see you in a bit." Yami turned off the phone. "You almost ready, Yuugi?"

"Give me a sec!" Yuugi called with his head stuck under the bed.

"What are you looking for under there?"

The smaller boy laughed. "You'll see."

Yami leaned against the wall, wondering what would've been put under the bed.

"Found i-OW!" Yuugi crawled from under the bed and with one hand he rubbed his head and the other holding a small bottle.

Yami laughed. "Good thing you remembered where we put it."

Yuugi nodded and threw the bottle in a bag. "Now I'm ready."

They came down the stairs and said good-bye to everyone. They all promised another get together soon. Ryou and Bakura volunteered to drive Yuugi and Yami to Yami's parents' house.

Once in the car, they settled in for a half a hour drive to Yami's house. "Yuugi, are you going to be staying with Yami at his college?" Ryou asked.

"...I don't know yet."

No final plans had been made between Yami and Yuugi. "You should, Yuugi. I bet when Yami's school sees your records, they'll accept you in a heat beat," he encouraged.

Silence. //Yuugi?//

/I don't know, Yami. My grandpa...what if something happens and I'm not around? He's the only parent I remember... I can't just.../

//But you said...//

/I know what I said, Yami. I realize he's okay now... but what if something else happens? I want to be there for him./

Yami shook his head. //So, we're back at square one again.//

/Yami, I can't help it! I love my grandpa. I don't want to *not* be there for him./

//The way you're making it sound is that you have a choice: either me or your grandpa.//

/Maybe that's what it is./

"Dammit!"

Ryou turned his head at Yami's exclamation. His eyes, normally crimson, but there was something behind them now. {Hurt?}

{{Probably had another little fight.}}

Sadly, Ryou nodded. {They have so many problems.}

/Yami...?/

//What?//

/Sorry... but try to understand where I'm coming from./

Yami didn't reply.

Silence fell in the car.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The car pulled up to a large house with a brass sign on the mailbox with the name "Mutou" inscribed. "Well, I'm surprised," Bakura stated. "No new attachments to the house?"
Yami smiled a little. "Thanks for driving us."
"Just feel lucky I'm not asking for gas money."
Ryou slapped his arm. "That's not nice."
Yuugi laughed as Yami shook his head.
Suddenly a thin lady ran through the house doors. "Yami? Is that you?"
Yami turned and saw his mother running up to him. Her black-violet hair flew behind her.
"Hi, Mother," Yami greeted her.
She gave her son a hug.
Yuugi stood against the car and watched. /Yami's so lucky he has parents./ Maybe not the greatest, but still... it was more than he had.
//Yuugi...// Yami said within their connection, forgetting his anger at him.
When his mother pulled away, she noticed Yuugi standing by. "And you must be Yuugi, right?" she asked.
Yuugi nodded and held out his hand. "It's nice to met you, Mrs. Mutou."
The woman took his hand and smiled. "Yami's said so much about you." Letting o of his hand, she asked, "Where are your things?"
"Right here."
//Must kill Bakura...//
/Why?/
//My mom doesn't like him much. And he knows it, too.//
/Oh./
"Yami... he's not staying here is he?"
"No he just drove us here."
Bakura opened the trunk, revealing the bags.
"I'll send someone to get them."
Yami rolled his eyes. "Mother, we are perfectly able to bring in or own stuff." He eyed Bakura. "Or wouldn't it be rude to not invite the driver in?"
His mother gave in and left the group alone.
"Glad I could be of use, Yami," Bakura said smiling.
"See you soon?"
"Yeah." The white head nodded and returned to the driver's seat. Yami and Yuugi emptied their stuff and waved Bakura and Ryou off. "Let's get this stuff inside for now," Yami said, picking up his two bags.
The smaller boy nodded and they began to carry their stuff in. While in Yami's room, Yuugi took a look around, noticing it was pretty bland. No posters, CD collection (although there was a CD player), but nothing showing Yami's interests. Yuugi was slightly disappointed. /Nothing... It's almost like this could be any old room./
//What do you want to know?//
Yuugi jumped at the voice. /Anything./
Yami sat on the bed and invited Yuugi next to him. //Where do you want to start?//
Yuugi took the offered seat and leaned his head on Yami. /Do you like sports?/
//Yeah. Football, American football and baseball.// He wrapped his arms around Yuugi. //And what about you?//
/I don't like sports... I'm usually the one getting trampled on./
Yami laughed at the mental image. //Say, Yuugi, are you concerned about telling your grandpa?//
/You mean about us?/
//Yeah.//
/No, not really. He accepted me in the past, right?/
Yami nodded. //I'm afraid my parents won't be that open minded about it.//
/So, is this why I came here?/
//In a way, yes. But mainly because I wanted you to come.//
Yuugi wrapped an arm around his love. /I'll go with you, if you want me to,/ I offered.
//I don't even know if I have the courage to tell them.//
Yuugi tackled Yami to the bed. "You have a lot of courage, Yami. Don't ever doubt that."
Yami smiled and leaned up to kiss Yuugi. The small boy looked for Yami's hands with his own and clasped them together. Yami trailed down lower with his kisses until he was lightly nipping Yuugi's neck. Hearing the sounds from the boy encouraged him to go father, but given the circumstances, he didn't want to indulge himself anymore. "C'mon, Yuugi. I wanted to tell my parents, not show them."
Yuugi climbed off him and sighed. "You're such a tease."
He laughed. "But you love me anyway."
"Of course."
Yami's mother clutched her fists. `How could my own son...! I refuse to believe such a thing!' She managed to put on a smile when she knocked on the door.
"Come in," her son called.
She stepped into the room and shot a quick glare at Yuugi. "Just wanted to let you two know that lunch will be ready soon. Your father will be joining us."
"Wonderful," Yami muttered.
"I heard that."
"We'll be there in a second, Mother."
Yami's mother nodded her head and left. `Yuugi must be gotten rid of.' She gritted her teeth. `And soon.'
