Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Seto Kaiba's Perfect Match ❯ The Big Duel ( Chapter 2 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Night began to close over the square, and so all of us bid each other goodbye for the night. I headed back to my hotel room that I had for the time the tournament was going on, but strangely didn't feel too alone. I was very much looking forward to the next day and hopefully being able to duel Kaiba.
The next morning, I headed out with my duel disc on my arm, ready for anything. I had put Cyber-Stein into my deck the previous night, along with my Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon. I was admittedly very glad to have that card in my deck---it reminded me of you-know-who.
Surprisingly, Yugi, Tea, Joey and Tristan were all waiting for me nearby.
"Gooooood morning!" I said brightly, waving to all of them.
"So, ready to cruise around?" Tristan asked.
"Sure, why not?" I said, and we started our tour of Battle City.
"Damn, we must have walked all over Battle City," Joey said, tiredness creeping into his voice. We found an unoccupied bench near the square, like the previous night, and sat down, completely worn out.
We had walked all day long, and Yugi and Joey had dueled a couple of times. Me, I was still waiting to see if Kaiba was around. Unfortunately, it was already late afternoon, and chances were that if we hadn't seen him already, we weren't going to.
"Hoo boy----I'm zonked, man," I said wearily, my muscles tired. Suddenly a voice roused me.
"Hey, you! You a duelist?" I looked up to see a young boy running towards me. He held up his duel disc. "You wanna duel?"
"Sure, what the hell?" I thought to myself.
"Yeah, sure," I replied to the young boy, and he grinned.
"Cool! Maybe I can win this time!" Obviously, he was coming off a losing streak. I hated to add to it, but I wasn't going to go easy on him just to be nice.
Our duel discs set themselves up, and we prepared our cards, drawing five cards from the Deck to begin.
"I play Trial of Nightmare in Attack Mode!" the young boy cried, and the card's holographic image appeared in front of him.
I furrowed my brow in thought. "That's a pretty weak card compared to what I have in my hand," I thought to myself. Suddenly my newest addition caught my eye.
"Sweet! I drew Cyber-Stein!" I thought excitedly to myself. This was my luckiest draw ever! Since I had shuffled my Deck very well that morning, I didn't expect to draw it right off. With my 8000 Life Points still intact, I had the 5000 needed to summon Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, setting myself up for the quickest duel ever!
"I summon Cyber-Stein!" I cried, and Cyber-Stein appeared before me. "Now, I activate its special effect----5000 Life Points in exchange for summoning one monster from my Fusion Deck. And since I only have one Fusion monster, it's a good one. Get ready," I warned the little dude. "It's a big one!"
With a swish of my hand, Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon appeared on the field, its formidable size taking up most of my side of the field. The little boy's eyes widened in fear. "Wow!" he said, staring up at the beast in awe.
"Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, attack Trial of Nightmare now!" My dragon's 4500-point attack power devastated Trial of Nightmare, knocking the boy's Life Points down a ways. Cyber-Stein also delivered a direct blow to his Life Points, leaving him quite shaken. Needless to say, he set his next monster in Defense mode, but it was not enough----in my next turn, I summoned Gemini Elf and attacked his face-down card, then delivered a final, explosive direct attack with Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon. This wiped him out, and he fell to his knees, defeated.
"Dang, can that chick duel or what?" cried an onlooker who had gathered to watch the duel.
"Man, she wiped him out. She's like---she's like a female version of Seto Kaiba or something."
I smiled to myself, hearing Kaiba's name. It was quite flattering to me to be compared to him. I walked over to my opponent and extended my hand.
"Good game," I said reassuringly. "I got really lucky and drew my best cards this time. If I hadn't, you probably would have beaten me."
The young boy looked up, tears shining in his eyes. "You think so? You don't think I'm dumb because I lost?"
"Heck, no. You did good. I started out this way too, so don't worry. Just review your strategy and maybe trade some cards for stronger ones. That's how I got good. It doesn't hurt to trust your cards, either." I got up from my kneeling position and was about to leave when I heard a deep voice behind me.
"Impressive. Quite impressive."
I turned around and about fainted.
"Whoa, dude, it's Seto Kaiba!" murmured one of the spectators.
"You think they're gonna duel?" someone else asked.
"Man, that would kick ass if they did ," said a third person.
Kaiba walked up to me. "You dueled him very quickly. It sort of reminded me of myself a little bit."
"Thank you," I said graciously, suddenly losing most of my mental faculties to say anything else. I felt very flattered, and my heart was fluttering in my chest crazily. I couldn't believe it----here was the sexiest man in the world telling me I was good? Sweet.
"What's your name?" he asked me, and I shook myself out of my dream world long enough to reply.
"My name's Robin." I looked shyly down at the ground.
Recognition dawned on his face. "I remember you----you were the duelist I defeated before this tournament began. And I use the word 'duelist' loosely," he said with a smirk.
"I deserve that," I said humbly. "I wasn't very good; it was only my first time dueling anyway." Kaiba looked a little surprised, but shook it off.
"Well---for a first-time duelist, you did better than most," he said, and I felt very flattered.
"As you can see, I've come a long way since then," I said modestly, gesturing to my cards.
"I noticed," he said with a nod. "Your usage of the Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon was----very good. Like I said, it reminded me of myself a bit."
"Thanks." My brain circuits were apparently so shorted out from being in the presence of such a sexy man that I couldn't think to speak more than a word at a time.
"You're too soft with your opponents, however," Kaiba continued, giving me a once-over with those piercing blue eyes. "They learn their lesson from dueling you----you don't have to make them feel better about it."
"Ah, well, that's just a difference of opinion, then," I said breezily, having found my voice and ability to think again. "I hate making others feel bad, so I try to make the hurt I've caused feel a little better at least." I was a bit shocked at myself for being bold like that, but it didn't seem to bother Kaiba. He seemed to shrug it off, and I knew by now I was probably blushing my ass off.
"Um----do you wanna duel me?" I asked him, my shyness taking over my voice for a second.
Kaiba considered, and then nodded. "You don't seem like you'd be a complete waste of my time. You seem fairly strong."
"I take that as high praise," I said, smiling. I couldn't help but grin----I was about to duel Sexy Man, and so, of course, I was in heaven.
The crowd of onlookers watched intently as Kaiba and I prepared to duel. "You know that your duel with me won't be nearly as easy as some of the duels you've fought before, right, Kaiba?" I said, smiling at him.
"You won't be that difficult."
"Oh? You think so?" For some reason, I felt incredibly confident.
"Just because you can summon strong cards doesn't mean I don't have ways to defeat them." His face seemed to be set in stone.
"Yeah, well, just realize that that goes both ways." I held eye contact, making sure that he wouldn't see how my heart trembled within at his cold blue-eyed stare.
"Duel!" we cried, and we drew our cards and officially began.
My initial draw didn't look too good monster-wise, but I just happened to draw Mirror Force, one of my favorite trap cards. "Hmm, this will come in handy if he decides to use Cyber-Stein and summon the Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, or if I have no monsters on the field," I thought to myself.
"I set one card facedown, set one monster in defense mode, and end my turn." My facedown monster was my favorite defense monster, the Mystical Elf. She reminded me of me----a good strong defender, even if she was a little on the soft side when it came to attack points.
Kaiba smiled at me. "I summon Goblin Attack Force!" His monster appeared on the field and shattered my Mystical Elf.
"Is that the best defense you have?" he said tauntingly, and I rolled my eyes, disguising my emotions toward him. We were in battle, after all, and I might be able to use my feelings as a weapon later.
"Shit," I cursed quietly as I looked down at my cards. Mystical Elf was in fact the only monster card I had drawn at first. I prayed for another one as I drew for my next turn.
"Sweet." I had drawn Big Shield Gardna, which, aside from being non-Tribute, also had a 2600-point defense. That would guard me and knock a couple hundred points off Kaiba's Life Points as well, if he were to attack. I then decided to implement my side strategy----the ol' "damsel in distress" move.
"Again, I set one monster face-down," I said, exercising my acting skills by looking downcast, as if I didn't have any other move, and I knew my card was too weak. Kaiba seemed to fall for it completely----his signature smirk flickered across his face and he played another card.
"Vorse Raider in Attack Mode!" he cried, and Vorse Raider appeared in all its holographic glory. "Attack the monster in defense mode!" Vorse Raider slashed at it, revealing Big Shield Gardna, and was bounced back. Kaiba lost 700 Life Points as a result.
It was my turn to smile at him. "Fooled ya." He wisely chose to end his turn there, and I drew.
"Aw, fuckin' awesome, dude," I thought to myself. The card I had drawn was my own Vorse Raider----I could use it to destroy Kaiba's Goblin Attack Force, which was now in defense mode, ridding myself of that threat.
"I summon my own Vorse Raider to the field," I said, playing the card, and it appeared on my side of the field. It was kind of weird----Kaiba and I seemed to have very similar strategies and similar cards. It was almost as if we were each other's perfect match.
"Vorse Raider, attack his Goblin Attack Force!" I commanded, and sure enough, my Vorse Raider took it down with ease. I switched Big Shield Gardna back to Defense Mode and ended my turn there, feeling a bit more confident in myself. Kaiba looked a bit shocked, but quickly recovered and composed himself, drawing a card smoothly. Once he looked at it, he smiled slightly, and a look I could only interpret as evil flashed in his eyes. It chilled me to the soul to see it, but it was also oddly attractive. (What can I say? I love weird guys.)
"I have your defeat in my hands," he said calmly. "It's been entertaining to duel you, but all things must come to an end, of course. I play Raigeki, clearing your field of all your monsters." I gasped sharply as Vorse Raider and Big Shield Gardna disappeared from the field. "Then I play Cyber-Stein in Attack Mode." My mouth dropped open in shock. He smiled at my reaction.
"You know what I'm about to do---you did it yourself in your last duel. I activate Cyber-Stein's special ability and summon Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon!" Now, I had to admit, controlling that giant dragon was empowering---facing it on the field, unprotected and unguarded, was truly frightening, and my face showed it plainly.
"Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon," Kaiba called over the roar of his dragon, "attack Robin's Life Points directly!"
I braced for the attack, then remembered my trap card and grinned. "Attacking me without noticing my facedown card, Kaiba? You know better than that." I flipped Mirror Force face-up. "I play Mirror Force and destroy both your Ultimate Dragon and Cyber-Stein." Both disappeared from his side of the field, leaving him just as unguarded as I was, and just as shocked as I had been when he destroyed my monsters.
"Awesome," I heard one of the spectators murmur. "Nobody's ever gotten rid of the Ultimate Dragon that fast."
"You think she'll really be able to beat him?" someone else asked.
I stared Kaiba in the eyes fiercely---I was again desperately hiding my emotional reactions to him. "I think we're about equal in skill, huh?"
"Hardly." He drew another card and frowned slightly. "I set one monster in defense mode, and end my turn."
"Good," I thought to myself. "I've got him on the run now." Then another strategic tactic came to me.
"Hey, Kaiba," I said suddenly. "What is it you're hiding, hmm?"
"Do you think I'd tell you? We are dueling, after all," he responded coldly.
"No, I'm asking what are you hiding with that chilly, frosty reserve of yours? I know there's got to be something more to you than just a drive for power and a strong intellect. Where's your heart?"
"Don't pull that with me," Kaiba replied, his face not changing a bit. "My heart has nothing to do with my mind and my strategies. You must have been talking to Yugi."
"Well, yes, I have," I said diplomatically. "But I must say I disagree with you about your heart. After all, what is human nature without a human heart? And I happen to know that you have a human heart----one that you've deeply frozen to protect it. You're afraid of your heart, what it might do to you if you ever let it loose, so you keep it locked away."
Kaiba scoffed. "You don't know me, and you can't possibly know anything about me."
"But I do know you, at least a little bit," I said sweetly. "The first time I met you, I sensed that there was something you hid from the rest of the world----something in your nature that terrified you. Could it be that your emotions are so strong they threaten to overpower you if you let them out?"
"Why don't we just get on with the duel? Standing around and talking about irrelevant things won't win the duel for you," Kaiba said flatly. However, I could tell that I had shaken him up a bit.
"All right then," I said, drawing for my turn. When I looked at the card, I couldn't believe my luck. "Now I think I have your defeat in my hands, Kaiba," I said, looking at my hand of cards. I looked up at him with confidence shining in my eyes and a dangerous smile. He looked a bit taken aback.
"I play Monster Reborn and bring back your Cyber-Stein in Attack Mode!" I cried, and Cyber-Stein appeared on my side of the field. "And, since I have all my Life Points intact, I give 5000 of them to summon my own Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon!" My own Blue-Eyes shimmered into existence, and I heard the crowd give a collective gasp. "Finally, both my summons were Special Summons, so I am also able to play my Dunames Dark Witch in Attack Mode!" My third monster appeared, and I smiled.
"Now, Dark Witch, attack Kaiba's facedown monster!" His defense monster appeared as my monster's attack hit, and shattered. "Now, since you only have 2300 Life Points left, I attack them directly with my Ultimate Dragon!" The force of my attack knocked Kaiba down, and his Life Points dropped to zero.
The next morning, I headed out with my duel disc on my arm, ready for anything. I had put Cyber-Stein into my deck the previous night, along with my Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon. I was admittedly very glad to have that card in my deck---it reminded me of you-know-who.
